The Drop: Week of September 17th 2012 New Releases

On PS3 this week, Borderlands 2 furthers the distinct blending of First Person Shooter and Role Playing genres to create the true evolution of the Role Playing Shooter. Team up with up to three other players for four-player online goodness or go old-school with two-player split-screen couch sharing mayhem as you spend hours leveling up your character and equipping them with one of the millions of badass weapons.

On PSN this week. Tag, grind, and trick to the beat in SEGA’s hit game Jet Set Radio! Fight for control of Tokyo, mark your turf with graffiti, tag walls, billboards, and even rival gang members. Also on PSN as a full digital download, visit the modern day reinvention of one of the most critically acclaimed arcade franchises of all-time, SSX allows players to experience the franchise’s signature fun and adrenaline-packed gameplay across iconic mountain ranges all over the world. Enjoy this week’s The Drop.

PlayStation 3

Borderlands 2 (Also on PSN) — Borderlands 2 is the epic sequel to the ultimate four-player role-playing shooter loot fest. Combining invention and evolution, Borderlands 2 features all-new characters, mixed online/split-screen co-op, skills, environments, enemies, weapons and equipment, which come together in an ambitiously crafted story. Players will reveal secrets, and escalate mysteries of the Borderlands universe as they adventure across the unexplored new areas of Pandora.

PlayStation Network

Jet Set Radio — The government is attempting to silence the kids of Tokyo, but with their Overdrive Magnetic-Motor Skating Shoes, the cops will have to catch ’em first. The Jet Set Radio program keeps the kids unified and inspired to fight for their rights of expression, which includes graffiti art. Grab your spray cans and design your own piece on one of the immense walls in the 3D, interactive city.

You might be forced to protect your territory from adversaries that want to take over your neighborhood. Join up with like-minded hip individuals that will help you keep your area the way you want it. The cops will be after you too, so you’ll have to be quick. The 10 cartoon-style characters are pumped up with polygons so they come alive in 3D. Uniqueness is key to these kids and each character stands apart with exclusive abilities and style. They like to show off too, and with 18 missions, there’s plenty of time to impress. It’s fast, it’s fun, and it’s definitely funky.

SSX — Redefining the franchise, SSX pits riders against both mountain and man. Players explore the story of a team who seek to be the first to descend the faces of the most treacherous mountain ranges on the planet. The team travels the world to face the worst that Mother Nature can throw at them.

From the peaks of the Himalayas, where the air is so thin that riders have to descend through the death zone at breakneck speeds to keep from blacking out, to the solid ice ranges of Antarctica, where a sunlit line is the only survival option when temperatures drop 50 degrees centigrade in the shade. And the mountain isn’t the only danger players will face. In SSX the first goal is to survive. The second, in true SSX fashion, is to look good doing it.

F1 2012 (Also on Blu-ray) — F1 2012 is the next installment in the popular F1 racing series. The game features all new modes of play, including the Young Driver Test mode, a feature inspired by the sport’s real-life testing programme for up and coming talent.

Zuma’s Revenge — Enter an all-new world of Zuma where evil tiki bosses rule the land! Conquer over 60 ribbeting levels by firing stone spheres to make matches and destroy the deadly stream of balls, then take on six tiki boss battles and guide your agile amphibian to victory. The sequel to Zuma features all the fun of the original hit game, plus new power-ups, new agilities, high-definition graphics, and four game modes for hundreds of hours of fun.

PlayStation 2 Classic

Harvest Moon It’s A Wonderful Life: Special Edition — The second PlayStation 2 entry in the Harvest Moon series builds upon the similarly-named GameCube title, Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life. A few big changes mark the jump from GameCube to PS2 — in this version, you may have either a boy or a girl once you’ve been married, and there are now four wives to woo with the addition of the lovely Lumina, and continued building of your farm is allowed once you’ve completed the story campaign.

River King — Players cast a line and try to hook the big one, in this socially oriented fishing RPG from Natsume. Taking the role of one of four family members, players seek angler immortality by catching the legendary and elusive big fish known as “the River King.” Of course, there’s also much to do between trips to the waterside, such as collecting rare items, trading for better equipment at shops, and making new friends.

[Editor’s Note: The following dates are subject to change. Game details are gathered from Press Releases from their individual publishers and/or ESRB rating descriptions.]

  • Why Sony not add the KH Series to PSTWO Classics That would be Awsome

  • hey, any chance we will ever see the .hack games get released in the ps store?

If anything, id love to see them or updated version of them on the vita, almost like it was made for the vita system ;)

  • I really would love to see Intelligent Qube on the PSN as a PS1 Classic…Japan has it! It’s such a rare game, it was going for $90 on eBay.

  • @lightning Your an idiot NASCAR is a declining sport. Nobody watches it anymore where as F1 has built a new track in Austin, Texas and will add another track in New Jersey next year. EA Sports dropped the license for the game because they could no longer make money on it. F1 has millions more dans around the world the NASCAR. I have NASCAR 09 which is way better then that piece of crap NASCAR 2011 where they put nitrous in the cars. Next time think me for crap spews out of your mouth

  • another weak week for releases

  • LOL Rey never responds.

  • @ bsholmes KID shut your mouth. They did not put nitro on nascars in 2011 you complete fool. F1 is terrible and isn’t popular you complete moron. You are a KID that knows nothing about Nascar. I bet you never watched a race cause you too stupid to understand it. Go watch your G A Y foolsball of men in stupid tights while real men watch a mans sport. Oh and Ea’s licence expired and activision bought the licence thank god cause ea made crappy nascar games. Nascar 11 was better than 09. Nascar. Nascar 2012 will beat all nascar games put together. You hate nascar 11 cause you suck at it. You lose too much so you whine over it. Go play with your gi joes kid you are mute to us real nascar racing fans. Go watch that girly men in tights football. Throwing balls all day oh thats so entertaining lol. NOT!

  • And so, it has been settled…

I am dissapointed, SCEA. Digital consumers, for LBPVita, deserve better.

  • AWLSE? Heck yes, we’ve finally found my first PS2 Classic!

  • The problem with this scenario is that Sony is treating retail and digital consumers differently. Those who want to purchase it retail are allowed to, while those who wish to purchase it digitally are forced to wait until September 25 do to an arbitrary policy. While this may have started from Gamestop selling early, Sony became responsible as soon as they agreed to accept retailers breaking street date. These situations occur from time to time. If Sony had not acknowledged the situation and quietly allowed Gamestop to continue selling the game then they at least would have plausible deniability in this situation. By coming out and acknowledging the early sales and not only not condemning them (not that I believe Sony would have done this) but assenting to selling the game early, Sony has essentially established a new Street Date for the games retail version. What Sony has not done, is allow digital sales. I am interested in buying LBP Vita digitally, but I am not upset about having to wait another week to do so. What I am upset is that as a digital consumer I am being forced to abide by a second set of rules that my retail Brethren are not.

  • Also NASCAR is Americas # 1 supported sport and watch wayyyy more than foolsball. So get your facts straight boy. Its not our fault you like watching men in tights run up and down the same stupid field throwing balls smacking each other on the butt. You idiots that enjoy watching that junk need to come out the closet I think you may be a little too fruity. I enjoy stock cars blasting by going over 200mph for 4 hours straight bumper to bumper 43 car field. Not wind up toys aka F-no-1 watch’s. I love the smell of burning tires and gasoline instead of sweaty ball fat guys aka convicts running up and down a field. Boring! Wake me up when its over lol.

  • I hope I did not offend anybody what I meant is that I don’t want to be a sheep and promote shady business models myself. I will be getting borderlands2 but not from PSN . I do love being a PlayStation plus member but just feel that the Europeans are getting a better value.

  • @ IRA…….. Rey is too chicken to reply or he just paste and then heads the heck out of dodge to the nightclub with the other blog workers. I bet thats why the store is often too screwed up weekly and stuff is wrong or not working on time or right. They too busy goofing off getting tattooed and bar hopping they get nothing done at work. They probably goof off at their desk 24/7 shooting spit balls through straws or sleeping on their desk cause they hung over from bar hopping. I wouldnt hold it past the usa blog team.

  • any chance of a Mortal Kombat Theme for the PS3 in the near future? that would just be awesome :)

  • Lucius_13 go to ps3themes. com and find all the dinamic and static free themes for free off your ps3 webbrowser and download till your hearts content. If you were talking about the ps3 itself give up. It will never get skins. Go 360 for that sad to say.

  • I hope SSX isn’t $60 cuz I can get it on amazon for $30 brand new

  • ‘-_-‘ at no LBP Vita yet. Might as well just go to gamestop then

  • How much is Harvest Moon going to cost?!

  • @xxnike629xx: ask SE and Capcom .

  • Wondering If you guys ever plan on bringing Dragon Dogma onto your roster of full games. It’s a great game from what I have played please bring it to the Playstation Store!

  • I’m hoping next month plus will do an assassins creed collection or at least 1 and 2 as free games. I need to play them but I traded them in before really getting into trophies. It only makes sense they would since ac3 is coming out. And when are we getting vita plus?

  • @LIGHTNING_FEAR That’s enough.

@Lucius_13 ps3-themes.com Someone might already done a theme you’re asking for.

  • @Lightning-scared (nascar guy)
how dare you! REDNECK FOOL! You must be more southern than me, and im in tenessee (which is really bad). anyways, you shouldnt be talkn cr*p about football. its alot more than just throwing footballs. you get to tackle and hurt people. theres actual athleticism. all you get to do in Nascar is move your hands for “4 hours”.

Nascar Crew Chief: ” now make a left turn, and make a left turn, and make a left turn, and make a left turn…”

the only reason i watch nascar is to see people crash. who knows. maybe you could sit in a vibrating chair for 4 hours. but i know you’ll never survive 4 quarters of smash-mouth-football.

  • P.S. your on my hating list

  • I never played borderlands, but i’m going to try the second ^_^ tomorrow!

  • @18: GameStop/EB Games is breaking the street date of LittleBigPlanet Vita, so if you were interested in that you can get it now. Most likely. Guess it would depend on your local store (if there is one) and what kind of games they stock and how many of them.

  • @61: God, get a life.

Retailers aren’t allowed to sell it, they just are regardless. Not all of them are btw. So it’s not like I can go to every store in my town and find the game being sold. Just those BREAKING THE STREET DATES. Which Sony doesn’t support, but can’t stop. Especially from a big retail partner like GameStop/EB Games. :/

The release date hasn’t changed. Sony didn’t say, “Yo, GameStop dudes, like you should sellz da game becuz it be funneh hurr durr”

GameStop just decided to sell the game. So get over it. The amount of effort you’ve put into complaining about something that’s out of Sony’s hands is ridiculous. Go complain to GameStop for breaking street dates if you feel “wronged”. Not Sony’s fault.

  • Ignore Lightning_Fear, he is just a troll.

Honestly, if you look past Borderlands 2, which doesn’t come with the same bonuses as retail, and the RE6 demo, this is a pretty weak drop. I know this isn’t sony’s fault, after all, they can’t control how fast devs make their product, but I’m still hoping there will be a PS+ update this week.

  • Please bring to PSone Classic:

    -Driver
    -Driver 2.

Makes no sense that they have it on the store in Europe and we don´t. Also, where is RDR!?

  • Jet Set Radio HD, Harvest Moon PS2, and RE6 Demo wooo!!!!!!!!

  • Ok, I signed on just to say @ Lightning Fear, aka SLICkETY, should be banned again. Not for your silly continuous rant about NASCAR. There are a legion of childish repetitive ranters here every day. You should be banned for using G A Y as a perjorative. I’m sure that there are plenty of LBGT folk in football & NASCAR & hockey & basketball & everywhere, including reading this blog & bigotry like yours must NOT be tolerated!

  • * LGBT. Sorry for the typo.

  • I wanna play RE6 so much!
This is gonna be essential for me to thinking about whether getting the game.

  • LIGHTNING_FEAR:

If Sony releases NASCAR 2011 on the store, I won’t get to read any more of your hilarious rants!

Please Sony, do NOT release NASCAR 2011 on the PS Store, ever. I don’t want the comedy to stop! :D

(Yes, I do find it funny when someone completely makes an ass out of themselves… and keeps on going… and going…)

  • YES I AM with @3

Can we please also get Assassin’s Creed III on the PS Store Day 1 ?

right now I am outside of Canada, and I am unable to get the game on Day 1 here in the middle east. because I would have to wait like one or two weeks for the game to get here….

and I am pretty sure I ain’t the only one who would appreciate it if you can get the game on PSN day 1!

    PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN!

  • so once again no love for the vita we just have to wait until tomorrow to see what’s new for the vita instead of knowing it in advance.@ Rey Gutierrez can you please at least mention about PSone classics or new add-on that is coming out for the vita…. it is minor but we should know since it is a playstation blog for all things playstation…. it seems sony already decided to throw the vita under the bus.

  • ok not too bad

  • We need some classic Final Fantasy Panels for FFIX or for Dissidia.
And Is it possible to add Dark Cloud and Dark Cloud 2 avatars on psn. I want maximilian, toan or osmond as my avatar

  • And when can we use premium avatars directly off my ps vita?

  • RE6 Demo? SWEEEEET!!! Now that’s the way to do it!! :D

  • Well, might have to convince my to-be bro-in-law to grab this Harveest Myoon. He got the GameCube version a couple years ago, but has barely tapped into it. Then again, he still needs to get his handed-down PS3 repaired (works, but iffy).

  • I dont know, but I get the feeling that publishers hold on the release of the good games on PS2 classics due to the recent HD version tendency, this way they could always eventually play this card.

That must be why the real classics never make it to PSN.

  • @lighting Again you show your stupidity I have watched NASCAR for years. Formula 1 is watched in so many countries around the world where NASCAR is only watched in the United States so where is your math that NASCAR has more fans. I live next to Daytona which is the biggest race of the year and they were giving away tickets because nobody was in the stands. So again how is NASCAR got more fans. When was the last time they added a track built just for NASCAR. F1 is doing it this year because they made so much money. And I am amazing at racing games be it GT5 or NASCAR or F1. I have a 200 dollar G27 racing wheel what do you use a controller. As my advice before think before you spew crap out of your mouth

  • Good drop :)
Here’s my PSN DROP wish List:

    Super Robot Wars Alpha

    Digital PS3 Games:
    Uncharted 3
    Batman Arkham Asylum
    Tales of Graces F
    Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations
    Atelier Totori
    Sacred 2

  • LOL..i always get a good chuckle reading the comments/rants on The Drop. My favorite, Demand NASCAR 2011 to be released digitally while calling people idiots, nim rods, G A Y, kid, fool, moron… This is just Comedy Gold!!!

  • sigh, borderlands2 digital with no advance warning. thanks guys, for the secrecy. + offerings have been a little underwhelming in the past few months tbh. Outland/ Bloodrayne were both the same kind of game; if you dont like one, you wont like the other either. Same goes for Scott Pilgrim/ Double Dragon. And Walking dead1 and 2. And it should be mentioned that borderlands was already widely played, being quite old as it is, and that it basically replaces gotham city imposters in the IGC. Is Plus just going to be a dumping ground for “samey” type experiences? I know a lot of folks will rush to defend the current store, but if they could see what other regions are getting, i dont think they would.

  • Here is my XMAS wish list…All of YOU ” UNHAPPY ” USA Plus members, when your subscription runs out, PLEASE switch to either a Europe/Asia Plus account. This will eliminate 86% Of the complaints here on this blog and then maybe we gamers can get back to some sought of a normal Blog life…Thanks. And as always, Keep On Gaming.

  • @Sony,

Just something to consider for the future here. I do not know the deal between @k and Sony, but if all things are equal you should consider giving more notice than 5 days before you are going to offer a title on PSN then to advertise it. There we and still are some questions surrounding it. I ordered a copy from Amazon, to which I might add that is the only game of 2012 I pre-ordered, I’m not a fan of the pre-order.

I would have considered based on what the PSN offered for the title, to cancel and order on PSN. But for whatever reason you decided not to go public on the details until the BLogCast. Really strange decision. If you are going to offer Assassins Creed 3 on PSN, can we give a post at least 1-2 weeks prior to release?

    @snakeeyes211

Did anybody else find the irony in the post that it was noticed that Borderland 1 was given out as an advertisement for Borderland 2, but it failed to register on the poster that the same thing was done for DarkSiders 1??

  • That’s it, no more PS+ for me, Europe is getting better games added to their instant game collection, im out………….. cool we are getting the RE 6 demo
