Watch the New LittleBigPlanet PS Vita Trailer; Early Review Highlights

Simon Rosenkotter's Avatar + Posted by Simon Rosenkotter on Sep 17, 2012 // Community Coordinator, Tarsier Studios

As some of you may have seen already, copies of LittleBigPlanet PS Vita have been popping up early at various retailers. If you’ve been lucky enough to snag a copy, I hope you’re enjoying the early access! Keep in mind, the servers won’t go live until September 18th, so online play won’t be available for another day, but you can still play the game offline in its entirety. And now that you’re beginning to dig into Sackboy’s latest mobile adventure, we have a whole bunch of goodies and treats to show you.

LittleBigPlanet PS Vita has been developed by Tarsier Studios and Double Eleven with a brand new story that takes place not on Craftworld, but on the travelling planet of Carnivalia. Once the bringer of joy and laughter, Carnivalia has now been taken over by the mysterious Puppeteer and his evil henchmen, the Hollows! Now it creates joy only to steal it all back again. So, it’s up to Sackboy to save the Omniverse when the game officially launches in North America on September 25th!

In celebration of our launch, we have a brand new trailer for you, which takes a closer look at the Arcade theme, a theme outside of the main story that is entirely dedicated to a new suite of arcade style mini-games. As you can see from the video, LittleBigPlanet PS Vita goes far beyond the realms of platforming and will give everyone the opportunity to play a whole host of awesome mini-games on PS Vita.

Review Round-Up

The reviews for LittleBigPlanet PS Vita are out, and it looks like everyone loved Sackboy’s new adventure. We can’t wait until you, the community, get your hands on the game so you can stretch your imaginations with the game’s new tools and features.

Here’s a small sample of the things the gaming press have been saying about LittleBigPlanet PS Vita:

IGN9/10

“LittleBigPlanet PS Vita is the definitive LittleBigPlanet game. It’s everything you loved from the past games boiled down into a package you can play anywhere at any time. When the LittleBigPlanet community gets its hands on the PS Vita version, amazing stuff is going to happen, and the PlayStation Vita is going to have a free App Store.”

Polygon9/10

“LittleBigPlanet Vita is the best thing on the Vita to date, a perfect fit formed between the hardware and the franchise. But it doesn’t just succeed on a conceptual level; it’s polished, addictive, and precious. In every imaginable way, LittleBigPlanet Vita is a knockout.”

Joystiq4/5

“LittleBigPlanet Vita positively bursts with charm and cleverness. It’s more refinement than revolution, but that also makes it the purest distillation of the concept’s potential. It’s the best (LBP) yet.”

LittleBigPlanet PS Vita: BioShock

Pre-Order LittleBigPlanet PS Vita Now

Time is running out to get in your pre-order for LittleBigPlanet PS Vita! If you want to pick up the rather awesome BioShock Minipack or the exclusive golden color set of Knights of the Old Pre-Order Costumes, you’ll want to pre-order now — before it’s too late!

Just like all of our other costume DLC, these costumes will work on LittleBigPlanet 2, LittleBigPlanet PS Vita, and LittleBigPlanet Karting. So, no matter which of Sackboy’s adventures you are currently playing, you will be able to dress your Sackboy up in these great outfits.

LittleBigPlanet PS Vita: Knights Of Old

PlayStation Store Digital Version Bonus Goodies!

If you purchase the digital version of LittleBigPlanet PS Vita within the first week of the game’s release, you will not only receive a digital copy of the game, but you will also be entitled to both of the above costume packs! This means that your week one purchase of LittleBigPlanet PS Vita on PSN will also nab you the BioShock Minipack and the Knights of the Old Pre-Order Costume Pack!

Celebrate the LittleBigPlanet PS Vita Launch with Us

It wouldn’t be a new LittleBigPlanet game if we didn’t have some special surprises in store for you to help us celebrate the release. And for LittleBigPlanet PS Vita, we’ve got a couple of costume releases that really fit the bill.

LittleBigPlanet PS Vita Rare T-Shirt

Long-time fans of LittleBigPlanet will know that we like to celebrate the release of a new LittleBigPlanet game with the release of an extra-special Rare T-Shirt that will be available for just one week only. So, allow me to present to you, the Rare LittleBigPlanet PS Vita T-Shirt!

LittleBigPlanet PS VitaLittleBigPlanet PS VitaLittleBigPlanet PS Vita

This rather snazzy Rare T-Shirt will suit any Sackboy or Sackgirl’s personality by automatically matching the color of the t-shirt with their chosen Popit color. And with a simply adorable animation on the front, who could possibly resist adding this costume to their wardrobe of costume delights for LittleBigPlanet 2, LittleBigPlanet PS Vita, or LittleBigPlanet Karting?

Don’t forget that the LittleBigPlanet PS Vita Rare T-Shirt will only be available for a very limited amount of time! It can be snapped up next week for $4.99; don’t delay in picking it up because once it’s gone, it’s gone forever!

The Launch Space Suit Returns!

Reserved for the launch of a brand new LittleBigPlanet game, we have the ever-popular Launch Space Suit returning to PlayStation Store next week. The Launch Space Suit is free, and will also be returning for just one week, so don’t miss out on this astronomical attire for Sackboy.

LittleBigPlanet PS Vita: Spacesuit

Meet the Creator Curators of LittleBigPlanet PS Vita

Sackboy will meet a wonderful and rather eccentric cast of new Creator Curators as he travels around the magical world of Carnivalia. Last week, we revealed each of these characters and told you a little bit about them on our Facebook page. If you haven’t seen these biographies already, be sure to head on over to our LittleBigPlanet Facebook page and check them out.

THANK YOU for giving the pre-order bonuses to the PSN Store Peeps! I’m also excited to pick up another rare DLC launch item.

I will admit it’s unfortunate that you’re making everyone wait a week to buy a game that is clearly finished and on store shelves, but not on the PSN store.

Please release this tomorrow instead of next week online in NA! I buy all my games digitally, and I’m very excited to get this, I don’t know why the street date was taken off, but digital users still need to wait, one would think the code would be easy to upload to PSN right?

The whole thing with the Vita was day one digital and retail release right?

I keep hearing about pre-order bonuses on the Playstation store, but we can’t pre-order it on the PSN store anywhere!

So:

– When can we buy the digital version from the playstation store? Are we really going to have to wait till the 25th?
– Those that are buying the digital version, are we not getting any pre-order bonuses?

Please let us know!

Also thanks tasier studio for the rollercoaster track it makes great monrail track. Will the MGS paint gun be avalible in the future? And since level kits won’t be transferable will there be Newer versions of old level kits in future or just new original level kits only. Last question I saw the assassian’s creed costume won’t be transferable to kart racing does that mean Enzio costume cant be transfered to Vita either?

Thanks. I didn’t read the post yet. Just a bit excited I guess.

That is pretty disappointing that they are not changing the digital release date. I feel like we are often getting penalized for buying the digital version. Which is really stupid because the digital version has 0 resell value. So if anything, the digital version should come with extra perks.

Pretty disappointing. At any rate. I am excited for this game!

I know this is a stretch to ask this but, is there going to be a list of costumes that will be made availiable on day one or when the servers go up? I ask mainly because the Old Snake moustache is my main priority right now.

+ NinjaMicWZ on September 17th, 2012 at 9:45 am said:

Still really confused about the week 1 shirt, guys. If the game’s not available in the US, officially and especially digitally, until the 25th… will the week 1 shirt really be available for purchase on the actual Vita’s PSN store, from the 19th to the 25th?

Nothing else ever works in the Vita’s favor when it comes to cross-platform or regional store availability, so I seriously, seriously hope I’m not going to be unable to buy the week 1 LBPV shirt if I don’t own a PS3 – ie: PSOne and PSP title availability on the Vita’s own store.

Also… if I just get my physical copy at Wal-Mart (the only store available to me) will it come with an insert inside the case for the Bioshock and Knights DLC?

Many people who didn’t even pre-order, bought the early release at Gamestop and still got the DLC anyway. I assume this is either because they’re first run copies, or because it’s Gamestop.

I’m asking because I’d eventually like to have both a physical and digital copy, but my preference is physical copy. I would be buying the digital release at a later date just to make playing it a more convenient process, that never requires me to switch out game cards.

There is no Gamestop here, and the only place I can preorder it is by mail with Amazon, Gamestop or Wal-Mart… so it’s an extra $12 for me to get release day shipping so I can get “free” pre-order bonus DLC.

So… can I just get a copy, in-store, at Wal-Mart and get the DLC?

22

+ ASC2175 on September 17th, 2012 at 9:57 am said:

@21 It did come with an insert….except it was a mis-print, instead, it is an online pass. The code for the DLC costumes are printed on the reciept, not the insert…..I know this because I tried entering in the DLC costumes code…no dice yet.

23

+ aro52 on September 17th, 2012 at 10:00 am said:

While it’s annoying that you let stores sell physical copies early, but won’t make it accessible digitally on the PSN Store, at least there’s Borderlands 2 this week to distract me from that nonsense!

24

+ NinjaMicWZ on September 17th, 2012 at 10:11 am said:

@22 ah, ok, thanks for letting me know. The insert must be the online pass, and the receipt must be the DLC.

Wal-Mart probably won’t provide the DLC then, because I don’t think they’ve adopted the cost-cutting, reusable code cheapness that Gamestop has.

ie: if you buy a PSN card at Gamestop, you just get a receipt. if you buy one at Wal-Mart you still get the card to scratch off.

They don’t advertise the DLC on their website either.

hmm… so indecisive. not something i’m good with. maybe i should just pre-order from amazon, and get it over with. I’ve been waiting to see if the Wal-Mart here unboxes their copies a few days early like they said they might.

If I buy it there to get it early, and don’t get the DLC, I’ll have to buy the digital copy to get the time-sensitive exclusive bonus DLC variants. I would basically be paying another $90 total to get it 3 days early AND get the DLC.

Everything about this post was fantastic until I read that the special “one week only” heart t-shirt is going for $4.99. Seriously? $4.99 for an article of digital clothing that’s only available for LittleBigPlanet? Does that not seem like a total rip-off? I can buy actual games (And good ones, too!) for that price and cheaper.

The pricing on some of this crap needs to stop. That’s not even nickel-and-diming. That’s just plain robbery.

Absolutely amazing game for fans of the LBP series, I cannot praise it enough. The game looks, feels, sounds, tastes like a true LBP game on the Vita. I cannot wait to get more into creating my own content and sampling what others have come up with.

Kudos. This game was one of the main reasons I picked up a Vita at launch. The wait was long, but it was more than worth it.

Are you sure this wasn’t developed by Media Molecule? Could’ve fooled me. LittleBigPlanet PS Vita has been my most anticipated PS Vita game since it was announced. I’m playing through the story mode now and loving every minute of it. Big thanks to Tarsier Studios, Double Eleven, and everyone else who helped make this the best LBP yet. You’ve done an outstanding job.

Is this voucher in the box really just an online pass and not the costume code? I had this game pre-ordered, but I cancelled it and bought it at Gamestop when I found out the street date was lifted. There’s no code on my receipt. I will be very upset if I don’t get the costume packs even though I payed full price before the release date. I want those costumes so badly.

fantastic game ! almost finished the main story mode …. charming, sophisticated – tough as nails in spots – those jumps in the train sequences were quite something ! working on the tutorials now – 15 in I believe it is …. like getting all the goodies from those …. :-) the one bonus for the digital folks is that the day they get their version, others will have very likely uploaded community levels – so day 1 for those folks to have access to free levels ….

as to the comment about the Earth Day Costume – the blog stated in their update that the costume would be available the following week – on that Tuesday when I went to get it, it was not there. I then posted here & received a reply that the availability was the week prior – I then posted again with a copy / paste from their blog update which misdirected costumers to the following week, & there was no further reply …. guess we’ll have to wait until next year …. it’s safer to just check PSN every Tuesday & see if there is DLC for LBP ….

thanks for the early release – wonderful job on this game ! sure hope they’re working on a sequel !! ;-)

One question though, will it be possible to transfer custom costumes made in LBP to the Vita? I have a ton of characters from my machinima show that I’d like to use in level building, but I’m not sure I can remake ‘em on LBPV. Still a fantastic game though :3
