  • violent23 ….you dont see LBP Vita on the store …. CUZ IT COMES OUT TODAY geez man take it easy lol

  • @41 austinite04

Dude you must be a complete moron. The whole idea behind digital distribution was to CUT COSTS! The publishers dont need to spend money on discs or operating factories to produce products. This in turn would also give at least somewhat of a discount to the consumers. The problem is they didnt and they continue to not. Therefore a lot, myself included, will NEVER buy into the digital distribution as my main way to purchase products.

Not only does it cost the same, sometimes even more expensive, to purchase digital you have to also factor in the inability to play all/any of your games at any time because even your 500GB harddrive cannot hold my whole game collection. And yes I can download them whenever but there again you have to wait sometimes HOURS to play the games. Where as my physical copy I can play instantly.

Thanks but no thanks, digital distribution might have a small following but will never take off as the main production of ANY product that being any game, music, movie or book.

  • Nice!! love how your begining to do this on launch games but bad side my internet isnt that quite awesome either how big in memory is Doom 3 BFG?

  • This is cool for those who buy games the day of, and don’t mind spending extra. Personally I wait a month and get the same games for $40 or sometimes less. I often wait till I can snag new games for $20, which usually happens within six months (Best Buy sales are good for this). Meanwhile, the same games will still be $60 on PSN. There’s just no incentive. Saving a few bucks as a PLUS member isn’t worth it when you have retailers offering $20 gift cards with new releases.

  • @ItaChu

It’s launch was announced yesterday on this site. It is available in stores and has been all week.

That is not day and date, is it?

  • and GTA 3 also comes out today violent23 …. but you go ahead and remind them of that remote play stuff ;) with that im with you :)

  • Will there be preorder bonuses? If not im not cancelling my preorder from Amazon.

  • OMG THIS IS SO FREAKING AWESOME!!! i was worried that Doom 3 wasn’t going to end up digital. This along with games like Need for Speed, RE6, and Dishonored kicks. Is this something that is going to be a constant thing from now on?

I appericate this new level of the service considering i’m trying to make my gaming collection all digital. It keeps discs out of the way of destruction of a one year old boy lol

Keep up the good work guys. I’ve been quite pleased with how PSN has evolved over the past year.

  • Well since RE6 wont have a preorder discount Ill just stick to physical copy…. as for Most Wanted… looks like Ill be cancelling my gamestop preorder and grabbing that digitally..

By the way will the PSN digital version of Most Wanted be the Limited Edition we get in stores (gamestop) for preordering?

  • yeah violent23 launch was announced yesterday its September 25th today and the store updates today which means? itll be there this evening :)

  • If possible, I recommend getting the Playstation credit card if you regularly purchase from psn. You get 10x point for every psn purchase (thats pretty much 10% money back). You can redeem the point for many Sony product or psn code for $10, $20, or $50 (point is 1000, 2000, 5000). If a game is already 10% off + another 10x point back that’s = $48.60 for each game. which is a real deal there. Oh yea and u get 5000 point after your first purchase. Free $50!

  • I agree with all people that complains about digital games prices, but is not Sony fault, it’s publishers one. At least we’re getting those games on Day 1 as digital copy, for people like me who lives outside USA is a lot cheaper than import the disc version.

  • and LBP Vita was supposed to begin selling in stores today, but some bozos started selling it last week, Thats not Sonys fault, games come out tuesday and the store updates tuesday evening ….these are things you should know by now buddy lol

  • Glad to see Sony finally getting the message that there is a high demand for all full PS3 games to be available on PSN.

…obviously there is still issues regarding parity between PSN prices and retailer prices, but hopefully as things move forward that issue will be addressed fully, right guys?

  • oh yeah and one last thing …. start working on that psn update people lol i want my marvel vs capcom origins today! lol

  • This a step in the right direction. One more reason to love my PS3. I wish RE6 was getting a discount though! I’d pick it up if it was. BUT I will check out 007 though! You can never go wrong with Bond

  • This is really exciting! This is why I installed a 500gb harddrive a year ago. Borderlands 2 is already sitting pretty on my ps3.

For those people who are waiting for games to get pre-order bonuses, you are sort of slowing the process down. Companies will begin to offer these bonuses once Sony sees this is a viable solution. For those of you pushing for a digital lifestyle, buy some of these games day one. I know I am. I want to see this model succeed.

6$ discount is awesome by the way. And no tax? And not spending gas? And saving on opportunity cost (take Econ)? And slowly helping to reduce the amount of trash building up?
This all sounds like a good deal to me. It’s a compounded reduced carbon footprint (if you believe in that).

Keep it up Sony. Lets see some more incentives and ill keep buying games digitally.

  • Any news on if Need For Speed is Cross buy bound? If so I’m sold and pre ordered up!

  • Yes! Great News! Will surely be getting Doom 3 BFG Edition! Thanks a lot! I hope you continue to do this with future releases!

    Sincerely, a brazilian customer.

  • this is big, but too bad not every ps3 owner or potential owner goes to the psblog to check what is up with playstation. yes sony, your problem is advertising your games and products effectively out there to the world

  • Any plans on upping the sales ante during holiday shopping time on these games, when many major retailers will offer Black Friday and Cyber Monday prices of <$40 on new releases or have running buy-2-get-1-free sales?

  • @110 i love the idea of Sony giving store credit to people who buy things constantly on the psn store. Sort of like Amazon.

  • From what I understand, the disc, box, packaging and printing that goes into a retail release costs about $5, give or take. So if there is none of that associated with a digital release, how come the end consumer is not seeing any of the savings. This of course not to mention the fact that in a majority of placed AROUND THE WORLD internet is not cheap and/or capped. I personally pay about $1/1Gb. So for the sake of the example if I download a 10gb digital release for $59.99, it ends up costing $69.99.

These things and others need to be taken into account. And the faster you do it, the more likely you will become a leader in digital distribution of games on consoles. Something that is unfortunately the future.

  • @110 If you can get approved for the card keyword “IF” i got turned down

    @116 pfft a measly 500gb? i installed a 1TB in mine…loving all the space

  • The whole digital thing is cool but they need to make it were you can sell them back for half price or something.i have a ps3 full of digital games and have no room. would be nice to sell a couple back at half price to get new ones. just saying.

  • PROs of Physical copies.

1- Can be lent, borrowed, traded, sold.
2- They look nice if you like to collect things, especially if the artwork is cool or special edition case.
3- Since it can be traded/sold it creates a second-hand market which in turn pushes retailers to lower the price of new copies earlier than they would if there was no buy-used options. Bottom line, you can get them for $10-$15 cheaper than MRSP only weeks after release.
4- You don’t need a large HDD to keep them and enjoy them at any time. Some may need installs or patch that may or may not be required to play the game properly, but you never need to worry you won’t have your game available because you lack storage.
5- Some games and editions can become pricey rare collector’s items in time.

  • @124 lol. How in the world would you be able to sell a digital game back? There isn’t a shortage of digital copies of a game.

  • 6- You can buy them using a wide range of payment options, including cash and store credit from trade-ins.

  • So no DLC with these releases? Well, I would cancel preorders, but I like the extra dlc included with Assassin’s Creed games… so close to getting me this time.

  • CONs of Physical copies.

1- Discs can get scratched, lost, stolen, broken.
2- They sure look nice all piled together, but they take up space and gather dust. The larger the collection, the bigger the hassle of keeping it all in order, and the easier for games to get lost or stolen.
3- Some hassle involved in the purchase, stores may sold out certain games at launch. Some minimal hassle in the changing between discs/games and storing them back into their corresponding cases and place, which in turn can damage discs.
4- Discs can only be played on a disc-drive (duh). It’s a con when we look at the future and contemplate the possibility of physical media completely disappearing. Even today the disc-drive is not very reliable/durable and it’s not easy to replace. In a not-too-distant future when disc drives no longer exist, a disc collection will be completely obsolete and almost useless (except for Pro #5).

  • Any chance Playstation will install a future update allowing us to use an external hard drive to store games? I’m reluctant to install an internal one, out of fear I will harm the system somehow. I recently bought an external one, thinking I could install games to it, but learned I can install everything but games.

  • @125–agreed. if i could resell digital copies then I would consider buying. as it is, I’ll just wait a couple months and pick it up used for half the price.

  • damn thats nice and all but you guys took too long, most of those games i already pre ordered and paid in full haha…

still nice job and thanks for keep trying to please us customers, btw it would be nice that as a pre order bonus you could have an early download… some people i know that bought the physical copy of fifa had them earlier than my digital one

  • too expensive to adopt digital download game copy. They should have a better price than a 10%.

  • Not usefull to go digital if it’s the same price. I prefer being able to lend my games to friends or sell them after I’ve finished the game. Also, I have a collection of about 70 PS3 games. I don’t see them fit in my PS3’s hard drive… So I’ll stick to real copies for a long while.

  • AWESOME!! AWESOME!!! Last month got Mass Effect 3, Max Payne 3 and SSX, this month I’m getting Resident evil 6 and Doom . I love digital copies…my son can’t scratch it and I can change the game from my couch!!!!!!!!!Thanks Capcom and PSN!!!!!!

  • Very nice but sony should do like Fox movies, all there digital stuff will now be cheaper than the tangeble counterparts! then plus gets 10% off THAT deduction.

Nonetheless im very happy being in a wheelchair and all i can have these on my hdd so i can switch w/o having to get up. thank you!

  • offer pre loading, and list req HDD space. If you are going to take this seriously, do it right.

  • Will Dishonored run as bad as the usual Bethesda games on PS3? Furthermore are we gonna get all DLC? Last I heard they couldn’t get Dawnguard to run on PS3.

  • 10% discount for PS Plus members. not a great deal. but other then that its nice of sony to do this

  • I like what I am seeing on the digital side of things with the ability to download these title on day 1 and with a discount in some cases. What I think I would like to see happen is for the peopler making the pricing decisions to really take a look at what the retailers are offering and match that.

Right now I buy a $25 F.Y.E. ( For your Entertainment) Backstage Pass Card and i get 10% off all software purchases in their store which is the same as the Plus, here in Connecticut. They also run different promos throughout the year and the one right now is that any game i reserve and buy I get an extra $10 dollars off my next game I buy.

Now they are not giving me free games like Plus is but since I am getting a physical copy for $10 less than the digital copy I won’t be downloading games I will be going to the store to buy them. Just info I wanted you guys to have. I still love plus it has been great and is getting better each week, thanks for listening!

  • This is really awesome, and I am super glad to see you guys doing this.

The only problem is that the 1 TB drive I put in my PS3 is at about 85-90% full :(

  • A great move in the right direction I think, but as quite a few people have asked in the comments above, what about offering similar pre-order bonus’s that Retail outlets offer. The reason they have different bonus’s is to try to tempt you to buy from them and not the place next door…

Surely the idea for pre-ordering something is to either assure the customer their copy or to receive a bonus.
We all know that in essence when we download a game from your server’s it’s one copy,, one version for all. So we’re not pre-ordering to hold our copy but we aren’t getting a bonus for pre-ordering either?

Hopefully the light bulb will go off above someone’s head who’s in the know and this will be implemented at some point down the line.

Still the right direction I believe, Great job :)

  • @The Playstation Team, I’ll have to echo the sentiments of the many fellow posters on this comment section regarding the pricing on the Day 1 Digital releases.

While i see the convenience of running the game straight from the HDD on digital releases…i’m still NOT supporting the trend unless the pricing is reasonably addressed.
Please, justify the full pricing of digital games same as retail when NOT only we can’t trade it, resell it, return it, not mentioning that digital games will have ZERO value once bought UNLIKE retail copies or lend it to friends ect, ect When Sony/publishers are seriously saving on (procurement, production and distribution) logistics? No printing of Blurays, instructions, cases, transportation fees to get the product shipped to retailers or warehouse ect.
And how exactly do we as consumers benefit from Digital releases again? I’m reasonable, i’ll wait for an answer. Until then I’ll stick to retail copies that are bound to be worth something to somebody should i “choose” to get rid of them.
    Thank You

  • This is why PSN is the best!! I cannot wait for Need for Speed!

  • I prefer discs and most of these are already pre-ordered. The only thing that keeps me from planning to download certain games I wouldn’t mind having download rather than disc (Doom 3 in this case) is that I don’t know the download size until the day of release. So as a suggestion/request, give an estimate of sizes when the games are announced? Thanks =)

  • You know, I also prefer retail discs and all, but by buying RE6 at $59.99 I will be saving around $15 here in Mexico (retail prices for new games are ridiculous over here).

So yeah, I don’t think that the box, manual and disc are worth that extra money. This will be the first time I buy one new full PS3 game, day one, full-price, and I will be really happy about it. =)

  • This is why i love playstation, keep up the great work Morgan and the psn staff!

  • OMG I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!! Lol :p but my checking account won’t after I’m done buying hahahahahaha ;p

  • Very nice. I want NFS Most Wanted on Day One, but it’s a game I plan on playing so much, I want it on my HD. And a discount too. Awesome!
