Limited-Time PlayStation Card Offer: 12-Month Plus Subscription & $50 PSN Code

PlayStation Card

Hello PlayStation Nation! I hope you’re a fan of PlayStation Plus and free video games, because you may have just hit the mother lode. We’ve been working tirelessly with our friends at Capital One to put together a special PlayStation Card offer for our community, and I’m excited to finally share the details. For a limited time, new cardholders will get a 12 month subscription to PlayStation Plus AND a $50 PlayStation Network code after first purchase (and yes, before you ask, the 12 month PlayStation Plus subscription extends the membership further if you are already a Plus member).

As you might recall, last year we launched the PlayStation Card – a credit card designed specifically for our PlayStation community. With it cardholders get:

  • 10x points on ALL PlayStation Network purchases
  • 3x points on ALL PlayStation and Sony purchases at Sony stores and Sony.com
  • 3x points at quick service restaurants, movie theaters and on your mobile phone bill
  • 1x points on all other purchases

And now, on top of the points you can earn, new cardholders will receive a 12 month PlayStation Plus subscription and a $50 PSN Code after first PlayStation Card purchase. With PlayStation Plus, you get:

  • An Instant Game Collection, which grants you access to a library of blockbuster games like inFAMOUS 2, LittleBigPlanet 2, Borderlands, and many more.
  • Exclusive early access to select game betas and demos
  • 1GB of cloud storage to save games online
  • Full game trials
  • Discounts on select PlayStation Store purchases
  • Automatic PS3 updates

And, once you receive the $50 PlayStation Network code with this offer, you can spend those fifty bucks however you please on the PlayStation Network!

When you combine the discounts you can take advantage of as a PlayStation Plus member, the $50 PSN code you can get to spend on the PlayStation Network, and the 10x points you earn from using your PlayStation Card in the PlayStation Store, you’re looking at some serious benefits.

This is the first time we’ve been able to put together such a special offer, and it’s our way of saying “thank you” for being such an awesome community!

  • I’m kindof annoyed about this, in that I just made my biggest purchase ever on PSN — a pre-order, so I don’t even have it yet — when if I had waited a day I could’ve gotten 10x points by using the new card.

  • Just got approved with a $500 limit!!! Can’t wait to get an extra free year of PS+!!!

  • Ok I was gonna apply but then Again Puerto Rico its out of the plan AGAIN…. ooh what a surprise….

  • I’m really upset I didn’t get approved even though I don’t have bad credit. Looks like I’ll be spending less money on PSN for awhile. Sucks for them.

  • APPROVED!! YES!! :D after the first purchase how can i get the psn and ps+ code??

  • Approved, got card, made purchase (on PSN of course)…..anyone know how long it takes to get the e-mail for the $50 credit & PS+ extension?

  • I applied for this card before and was denied. I can’t remember what the reason was. However, afterwards Capital One kept sending me pre-approved credit card offers (NON Playstation ones) but I never replied to those. Glad I didn’t cause I tried again when the PS plus offer popped up and I got approved. My credit limit is higher than I expected, however my APR is 19.9 percent which for me is a little high.

  • how do i apply psn card

  • i dont live in the same country as the one where i created my PSN account. What can you do for people like me ?

  • So those of us with the card already are pretty much S.O.L.? bah

  • I am honestly quite irritated about this. It seems I’m not the only person who is being denied for the card, despite having solid credentials. What’s the deal? This is only hurting Sony in the long run, because they will receive less business than they could have from dedicated fans who’d surely love to spend like crazy on this card. I know I would.

  • Not happy with CapitalOne right now.

I’ve had a PlayStation VISA card since 2009 and tried to apply for this new deal and was denied (I have a credit score of above 7. No debt, no loans, nothing.)
After calling their customer service I was told it was because I already had a PlayStation card through them and was advised to cancel my account and re-apply tomorrow (9/28/12). So taking their advice I canceled my CapitalOne VISA account and re-applied today.. and DENIED again.

Now when I call they won’t tell me why it’s being denied so I have no credit card.. I guess they don’t want business that badly.. especially from someone who pays off their bill 100% on the day the bill is made available.

They want customers who are in debt and don’t pay off their credit cards so they can bleed you dry with interest charges. Not for me!

    • Capital One took note of your comment, and wanted me to tell you:

“We do value your business and are sorry to hear about your recent experience. Please email Capital One at social@capitalone.com with your name and phone number, along with the best time to contact you.”

      Hope that helps!

  • Approved, $10,000 credit line, 13.9 APR!!! Cant wait for the card n points. Just do the rewards freebies to earn points too.

  • Alright, so I signed up and got approved. I understand the $50 voucher comes after my first purchase. However how/when will the PSN+ voucher be delivered?

  • I wasn’t given an immediate approval decision and I was told that it would be approximately 7-15 days before I hear anything. I could care less either way since I’m mainly doing this for the bonuses. I’m surprised that I wasn’t given approval immediately considering my credit rating is in the mid-700s and I was able to purchase a 2012 Acura with 1.9% financing. We’ll see though…

  • i just got approved yesterday but it doesnt say anywhere(unless im blind) where i go to pay online, so is it in paper format??

  • Thanks Brandon, Michael, Sony, and Capital One! Just signed up and got approved. This is a generous offer! I think I’ll use the $50 PSN voucher with the special October buy $100 get $20 credit deal. Stack that with PS+ discounts and I’m golden!

  • @rarjr1975 dam you must have a perfect credit score mine is around 720 and i only got $3000 16.9%

  • Woo! Applied last week and got approved! Card will be coming this week! This is the best timing too. Just bought a Vita and was looking into renewing my PS+ subscription. Good thing I looked at the blog first and saw this! Super excited, Thanks Sony!

  • How much do you have to spend to get the $50 PSN credit? Can I just make a $1 transaction? I’m interested in signing up if I dont have to spend an outragious amount to get the credit.

  • probably 5$ as there is usually a fee on transactions of a less amount for retailers.

also if you are getting this just for the free stuff dont bother as they expect you to use the card more than a few times

  • i just made my purchase and signed up for sony rewards and i haven’t got the email for the 50$ code or ps Plus.

  • So I found out today that CaptialOne went ahead and RE-OPENED MY ACCOUNT.

I never requested or wanted my account to be re-opened and it was done WITHOUT my consent.
I will be contacting my lawyer and the Better Business Bureau regarding this issue.

This is the last time I will ever use CaptialOne and highly recommend that people stay far away from this company. They are totally clueless. It took me 90 minutes on various phone holds and transfers just to find out who was responsible for re-opening my account without my knowledge.

I was even told to contact their fraud department until they discovered it was THEM!

    Never again.

  • $50 to spend in the PSN store might sound like a good deal until they wither deny you or hurt your credit score with their nonsense.

Don’t bother with this. Save your sanity and your credit from being hurt by CapitalGreed.

  • Anyone get their codes yet?

  • I don’t know what Spoonmanx is complaining about how it screwed them up. I paying off all my debt because i choose to use it irresponsibly and with this card will use it as my debit card until the interest comes to play. Just got the card today and will make a purchase so hopefully i get the so called promotion. I tried to link my card to the sony rewards site but it says its already merged…did anyone get this as well? Awesome if this works.

  • @nademinogue yeah im up the in the 800’s, i made a few purchases today, totaling about 250.00, so hopefully i get the email with the link for the $50 credit and PS3+ codes. I dont know what the turn around time is for them to send it out, but it better be sooner than later. Im needing this so I can renew my ELITE subscription for BLOPS2. If we can pay that way for it.

  • Spoke to a rep on the phone, looks like the promo bonuses don’t get awarded until after your first statement posts. Ah well… still seems reasonable enough deal to me.

  • I received my card but cannot update my billing info on the psn. i knew this card was going to be a big pain in my ass.

  • @kineticmedic Well that kinda sucks but it is still a great deal. Just have to wait for the first statement to pass. Still to get 12 free months of psn plus plus a $50 psn voucher, this is still a pretty awesome deal and if there is no interest charge till next year i can keep using this as a debit card while paying ahead in time. Thanks sony.

  • @RoyMunson I was able to change my credit card information under the psn store for my vita…not sure why you are having problems.

  • @alanmv567
it is because i live in an apt. psn cant handle that for some reason.

  • @RoyMunson I also live in an apartment….checking my billing information right now. On the “Street Address 1” i put everything there and also my apartment number which would be “Apt E”

  • i will try that in a “few days” when my acct is unlocked.

    thanks alan567

  • Planning on picking up One Piece Pirate Warriors with my credit, anyone else got plans for theirs?

  • did anyone else get something saying your card should arrive in 7-10 business days then a few days later, get a letter crom capital one saying you should get it within the next few weeks?? lame..

  • @Instant-Classic yeah i got the same thing, got a letter on tuesday telling me it would come in about two to three weeks, then got my card on friday. I believe they only put that to estimate….they can’t really tell you how many days exactly as i believe they have to process thousands of credit cards a day and rather just send out an estimate letter.

  • probably based on where you live, i live in southern CA, so it took about a week, so dont fret my friend!!

  • @kineticmedic lots and lots of purchases on psn store…if the reward is x10 for points then this is my gateway card to more and more games!! plus i’ll use it as my regular card every day.

  • WOW! Received my card on Thursday. Activated and made a purchase that night off the PSN Store. Got my email for a year of PS+ and $50 credit this morning. Just redeemed it off Sony Rewards and punched in the codes to PSN a minute ago! WOOO! This was super quick! Make sure you have a Sony Rewards account and that your card is LINKED to the account.

  • guess ill have to wait until tuesday( stupid holidays) jk..haha oh well cant wait to get ps plus.. so much free stuff and even discounted items..

  • @Aevanilla Did you have to link yours? I tried linking mines to my Sony Rewards account but it gave me an error and told me it was already merged…but i never linked it before.

  • i use my playstation card today in gamestop and when i got home i use it buy plants vs zombie in my ps vita and yet i dont recieve my 50 gift ard or 5,000 rewards points do i have to wait for days to recieve it?,… or my card have a problem in it…

  • I guess the person I spoke to on the phone was wrong and it doesn’t take a full billing cycle to get the bonus, I got mine this morning too, guess it just takes till the first purchase “clears”. Sweet!

  • Got my email this morning for the 50/50 deal! You might be able to do it before the email gets to you, go to sony online rewards/bonus under PLAY, go to playstation network, click on 50 Ps+ and 50 credit, add to cart, and check out. If it states 0 then you’re good. Check out, wait for email, and boom! Codes are delivered.

  • how many days before you get your 50 or the ps+

  • @alanmv567 – I didn’t have to link it myself. Like you, I tried to link mine and it said that my card was already linked. I guess if you used the link from Capital One or from an email after being approved from the card, it auto linked your card to Sony Rewards. It took about about 3 days for me to get my email to redeem my stuff. **Also.. King of Fighters XIII free for PS+ members tomorrow!!!! Exciting!

  • @ 146 Three days max. I apply on Oct 4th & got my PS credit card a few days ago & got Batman Haley DLC $9.99 then I wait three days & got a email saying that I need to go to SonyRewards & get the free PS+ & $50 PSN. in a few mins I got a email with the PSN + & $50 PSN code. Thanks Sony.

  • Yup just got my email as well and was able to get both offers!!1 Thanks sony!!

  • I finally got my Playstation Credit card yesterday and added $5 to my psn account from the credit card for my purchase. Let’s see how long it takes for the free psn plus and the free $50 psn card.
