The Unfinished Swan Flies to PSN October 23, Early Access for Plus

When you make a game about something unusual like, say, throwing paint in an all-white world, you expect to get a lot of questions. But we were surprised that the question we got asked the most turned out to be “when can I buy it?”

Now we have an answer: you can buy The Unfinished Swan on October 23rd exclusively on PSN for $14.99. And if you’re a PlayStation Plus member, you can get the game a week early — October 16th.

In the meantime, there’s still a lot to learn about the game. You’ve met the King, now get to know us: the team behind it all. In the first of a series of developer diaries, we’ll lift the curtain and give you some background on Giant Sparrow, the beginning of The Unfinished Swan and how we landed on PlayStation Network. Check it out:

Leading up to launch on October 23rd, we will be back to dive in and show you all you need to know about The Unfinished Swan. For more news about the game you can check out the Giant Sparrow company blog.

Can’t wait for you all to play the game!

  • I played this about 2 weeks ago at Fantastic Fest arcade and loved every second of this. For anyone on the fence about this game: buy it. You won’t regret it.

  • You forgot to list a price!

  • is this a psmove game? price?

    • You can play Unfinished Swan with a PS Move controller or Dualshock 3 controller; so all the options are covered there. Also, we updated the post to show that the price is $14.99.

  • Very excited about this…I will definitely be picking this up. Thanks for all the hard work Giant Sparrow, it looks great. One more thing though…price please?

  • @2 + 4

EU blog listed it as being £9.99 for us, so it’ll probably be around $15 for you guys then ?

  • Sweet! I didn’t expect it this soon!

It would be great if this hit the $10 price point. It seems like there are no good PSN games under $15 anymore.

  • No thanks, i’m waiting RE5 for free just like EUR…

  • You guys are making it easy to get that $20 back in November. Huge month for PSN! Keep them coming!

  • Looks good so far. Hope there is a demo. Would luv to try it out 1st.

  • meh….looks artsy fartsy. Wouldn’t mind playing it if its around $9.99 though.

  • Also, Early Access is good and everything, but don’t let it replace discounts like you did for Jet Set Radio. We got that game early but didn’t get a big discount.

  • Awesome awesome !!!!!!!!!

  • I would rather have discounts than early access.

  • @remanutd5

I played it at PAX with the move, so I can confirm it supports move controllers.

    @Giant Sparrow

Awesome game. I had a blast playing it at PAX for 30 minutes. It was hard to put down.

    @Sony

I would bet the farm that EU PS+ users get this for free and we get nothing, including a discount, for PS+ North America. Seriously 1 week exclusive for PS+ needs to stop. That is not a perk.

  • Awesome! I’ve been waiting for this day for quite some time.

  • This is the best news I’ve had all week. Thank you for making my Friday, I can’t wait to play Unfinished Swan!

  • Is this also going to be on the Vita?

  • I cannot wait for this. I haven’t seen a FPS this creative since Portal 2. October 16, here I come!

@bobbydharrell It’s not going to be on the vita. PS3 only.

  • I will happily pay my $15 to support this developer

  • how much will it cost?

  • shut up and take my money!!

  • Unfinished Swan $14.99
    Okami HD $19.99
    SFxT Vita $39.99

    74.96 in October

Planet in Distress comes out this month I’ll be all set… otherwise I’ll have to offset the cost some other way…. PS+ renewal?

  • I agree, this will be part of my $100 on PSN initiative. It would have been great to have this as a Vita cross play. Odd that Sony didn’t require it, since they’ve worked so closely & promoted this indie so much.

  • You can add me to the list of people who are not very excited about the whole ‘get it a week before than everyone else’ trend that Sony seems to be fond of. I’d take a discount any day.

Anyway, I’m really looking forward to this one, can’t wait!

  • $15 is a little too much for me right now. Just curious, why no discount on this like with some other titles for PS Plus members?

  • I hope it gets a discount for Plus too.

  • thank you for not releasing this for plus on oct 9. i have xcom/sunflower/joe danger2/dishonored/retro city rampage reserved in my wallet that week. yeah i hope there atleast 10% discount for plus

  • Normally I’d be up in arms, “Where’s my Plus discount??” but for this game, I’m stoked to be able to get it a week early. This is one of my most anticipated games of the year, and is easily worth the $15. Thanks for getting us a week early!

  • Awesome news! If anything would love for this game to come to PS Vita :P

  • Does anyone know if it will support stereoscopic 3D? That would be epic triply…

  • Must buy this!

  • Count me in as another who will happily spend $15 on this amazing-looking game! Indy games like this are what get me most excited about being a PS3-owner. :)

  • @7 RE5 free would be pretty lame for the people who bought RE6 anthology edition

  • Hmm. A boy’s mother dies. But she leaves a trail for him to follow. Something about swans. Is this Loom?

  • For the record, I have no issue paying $15 for this game. I just don’t find value in early access for PS+. Except in betas, and that is usually after private betas anyway…

I would rather save money than get something first.
