Mugen Souls on PS3 Tuesday, NIS America Update

Howdy, doods! I’m dropping by today to briefly talk about our upcoming RPG title Mugen Souls, developed by Idea Factory and Compile Heart. Mugen Souls is set to release next Tuesday, October 16th, so I’d like to go over a few of the game’s awesome features and game mechanics. Afterwards, I’ll recap a few of the announcements we made at Tokyo Game Show 2012 a few weeks back. Here we go!

Story-wise, in Mugen Souls you can expect the typical humor and zaniness you’ve come to expect from NIS America titles. You’ll enter a small galaxy in the universe containing seven worlds, shimmering in seven colors… These worlds exist and act independent of one another. This has allowed them to develop and nurture rich, unique cultures. One day, a decree was sent out… “I’m gonna make everything in each of these worlds bow to me!” This reckless statement came courtesy of the egotistical, yet strangely cute, “Chou-Chou.” As Chou-Chou, it’s your mission to travel to these seven worlds, conquer them, and make everything and everyone on them your peon! Worldly domination for the win, dood!

Mugen Souls plays out in a turn-based fashion and with free movement on the battlefield. For a visual reference, the free movement side of the battle system resembles that of Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2 for PS3. When it comes time to do some damage, there are many ways to make it happen. Players can experience group attacks inspired by the Disgaea series, where once triggered you and your party, for instance, are suddenly transported into green army tanks and begin raining explosive rounds on your enemies. Or, you can merge with your teammates to form a giant spinning character windmill, which allows you to fly around all fancy-crazy while racking up a bunch of damage on your opponent. If that isn’t enough, you can always launch your enemies into the crystals set in each battle to watch them bounce around like pinballs, or if that still isn’t enough, you can launch them into the air and knock them around for even more damage! When you aren’t conquering worlds and making enemies into your peons, you will be on your ship, known as the “G Castle,” which serves as your transportation between worlds. While traveling, you will also encounter ship battles against enemies, so make sure you have plenty of peons to help out!

Mugen Souls for PS3

One of the most noteworthy and important mechanics of the game is called the “Moe Kill.” Essentially, in order to bolster your G Castle, you will be using the Moe Kill to enslave enemies into being your peons. It’s performed during battle against enemies, and the way you do it is by changing Chou-Chou’s personality to match that of the enemy. After that, depending on that enemy’s mood, you’ll have to use small phrases that coincide with their mood. Successfully doing this a few times should make enemies your peons! On top of the Moe Kill, another important game system is called the “Mugen Field.” If you’re familiar with Disgaea’s Item World, you should feel right at home. The Mugen Field is an area consisting of multiple “floors” where you go to level up your weapons to help aid in conquering worlds. Much like the Item World, the Mugen Field allows you also to unlock upgrades for your character and customization as you progress through it, and clearing it will challenge even the most hardcore RPG fans.

Again, we’re really excited and hopeful that everyone will enjoy this title! It has a lot of great elements from both the Disgaea series (Disgaea artist Takehito Harada provided the art for Mugen Souls, and Disgaea composer Tenpei Sato created the soundtrack) and from standard turn-based JRPGs in general, so definitely give it a try next week on October 16th, dood! Keep your eyes peeled for a lot of DLC also, as we have big plans for the near future!

Lastly, a quick blurb on some new announcements from Tokyo Game Show 2012! First off, we are happy to announce that we’ll be bringing Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory exclusively for PS3, to North America and Europe this spring! Also, we will be launching Generation of Chaos: Pandora’s Reflection for PSP (via PSN) in early 2013! Lastly, we are super happy to announce that we will be bringing Persona 4: Golden for PS Vita to Europe, dood! I’ll be back to touch more on all of this in the future.

That’s all for this time, thank you again for all your support! I’ll be back in a few months to chat, I promise, dood!

  • I so can’t wait for my copy to arrive! This game is going to be great!

  • yeah i’m gonna play this game myself as for the other announcements,i’m not too fond of “the generation chaos” games in the past.so sorry about that.hope to hear better announcements in not a distant future from you guys.anyways, nice to see you guys back in the ps blog :)

    • Hey perrandy,

It’s good to be back! We have some really great things planned for 2013, so stay tuned!

      All the best,

      Ryan

  • wish it was for vita or a cross-buy. looks good tho!

  • Sadly, I will be skipping this title since it’ll be censored. Not so much because of the content, but because I’m against censorship. That’s enough reason to pass on Mugen Souls. Nothing personal NISA.

However I AM excited for the other titles announced, NISA. Especially Neptunia V.

    • Hi Mister-Nep,

Sorry to hear you won’t be picking up Mugen Souls =/ But, I’m glad to hear you are excited about Neptunia V – it’s looking awesome!

      Best,

      Ryan

  • Can’t wait for this one. Hope all those delays were worth it.

    • Hi greezsaber,

We really hate to push release dates back – because we know how much everyone is looking forward to checking out our titles. We really hope you’ll have a blast making everyone your peons ^^

      Have a stellar day,

      Ryan

  • Is there a day and date digital version of this? If so, I’ll cancel my pre-order.

    • Hi Christian399,

I unfortunately don’t have any news for a digital release of this title. If anything changes in regards to this, we’ll definitely be announcing it in our newsletter or on our website.

      Best,

      Ryan

  • The censorship thing bothers me.
so I’m not getting this one

  • Hope NISA gets working on that Vita-compatibility for PSP game Generation of Chaos: Pandora’s Reflection soon, so it’s ready to go at launch.

    • Hi boxmyth,

All of our previously released PSP titles are compatible with Vita, so hopefully GoC: Pandora’s Reflection will be also. We’ll let you know as soon as we can ^^

      Best,

      Ryan

  • I’m not worried about the censorship thing, as my understanding is that the game would be forced to get an AO rating if they didnt censor it, which would effectively kill its sales here in the US.

As it is, i still need to pick up MK2, and i want to get Mugen Souls, HN Victory, Pandora’s Reflection, and Persona 4 (even though i know you guys arent the ones publishing in the US).

I’m such an NISA fan, and look forward to new stuff (hopefully some actual Vita stuff too) in the future!

    • Hi LionFranco,

I’m glad to hear that you’re a big fan! There’s lots of great things to come for 2013 on top of the titles that you listed, so definitely keep your eyes peeled for new announcements!

      Best,

      Ryan

  • Good grief this game looks under produced! It could have been released on the PS2! Come on devs, step it up!

  • @4 I don’t get if they remove %.01 of content it is unplayable. Are Loli Baths that important to you that you won’t try what could be good game? I actually think it might be better.

  • I, too, was considering canceling my preorder of the special edition because of this censorship nonsense. I hope NISA takes note of the number of displeased people and canceled orders. I thought we had advanced past having this kind of thing in video games. Ultimately I kept my order because I’m too much a fan of Shin Keiji Inafune and the Neptunia games to pass on this.

And to anyone with the stupid “Are you that much of a P. that you need to bath little girls to buy it” argument.: It doesn’t matter what part of the game is censored, it matters that in this day and age NISA still chooses to censor games at all.

  • I don’t like censorship.

    that’s it.

  • Hello Ryan, good to know that Mugen Souls is ready to sell, I’m kinda sad because of censorship in games, bu I really understand that any company is made of sales and numbers.

I’m 30 and work a lot, so I cannot blame you at NISA.

I have a question regarding almost all products, it is possible to work on Remote Play compatibility patches? See I’m married and the fight for the TV is big, I’m a big fan of NIS games and I have some of them (about 15) and would love to play them on my vita since the screen seems that was made for your games.

    Best regards.

@ all that are fighting about the censorship, if this was made by the government directly, I agree that’s awful, but the company needs to keep winning money to pay their expenses and continuing creating more.

If NISA didn’t took out these contents, the sales into Europe and US would be minimal. Think about it

    • Hi Sowulo,

How goes things? We get a lot of requests for Remote Play compatibility, however since the development is done in Japan, it’s often pretty difficult to get them to release the patches – especially since they’re constantly developing new products. We know that fans would like it though, so hopefully someday this is something we can work on – but again, in the end it’s totally up to the developers.

Thank you for posting and for being an awesome fan!

      All the best,

      Ryan

  • Ops, I forgot to add “dood” to all of my sentences.

  • Awesome to see a post about mugen souls on the blog, I asked on Nis America’s FB page if there is going to be Digital Distribution for Mugen Souls and didnt get an answer. Do you have info about Mugen Souls being avilable Digitally on the store?
Note:Why are people even getting so upbeat over the censorship, from what I understand they removed the loli bath scenes, if they kept those scenes I’m pretty sure it would create a lot of bs Nis America would have to deal with from the public and I’m glad the game doesnt have those scenes anyways.

    • Howdy NovaChronicle,

Up in comment #6 I mentioned that at the moment we don’t have plans for a digital release, however if anything changes we’ll be announcing it in our company newsletter and on our website!

      I hope this info helps!

      Ryan

  • I really want a HN on Vita either MK2 or something new, I’m glad to hear you guys will release P4G in EU region. hopefully they are considerate and buy it instead of importing because I hate to see publishers get screwed for helping out :). Also I don’t believe AO is ever used in NA. Plus I can’t believe people would complain about MS being censored. I’m actually happy, and thats whats making me get it when I get the chance. I’m so tired and annoyed by the lack of maturity. I swear every anime these days have this issue. I can’t even take it in anime, all I watch is older ones.
by the way anychance of a Vita version in the future? I really grew into the RPGs better on the go custom :), also i maybe missed it but price?

    • Hi Teflon02,

Unfortunately at the moment there aren’t plans for a Vita version. It definitely would be awesome if we did get that on there in the future though! If anything changes, I’ll be back!

      All the best,

      Ryan

  • Hey Ryan! Just have to say I’m playing Hyperdimension Neptunia MK2 currently and I absolutely love it!!! Will definitely pick up Mugen Souls and am extremely excited for Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory :)

I do have a question though…any chance we might see the Hyperdimension Neptunia MK2 avatars released over PSN soon here in North America? Really want to get them.

    Keep up the great work!!!

    • Hi RTGmgs,

I’m really glad to hear you’re enjoying Neptunia mk2! Some good news – right now we’re slated for mk2 avatars to hit the North American PSN at the end of the month (tentatively the 30th) ^^

      Have a great day!

      Ryan

  • Thanks for the Reply Ryan, I didn’t see your reply to comment #6 when I made my post, even if digital distribution isnt Day 1 for Mugen Souls I will get it physically unless news about digital distribution comes before release date.

    • Hey NovaChronicle,

No worries at all, dood! ^^ – I can confirm that there won’t be digital distribution of the game before the retail release date.

      Best,

      Ryan

  • Holy crap dood!! Look at those character levels!! Its Disgaea all over again.

  • This game looks like it should have also been made for the ps vita. And out of curiosity why does so many games get release in Japan and not in the US/NA. Like why isn’t there a lot of creative video game created and realse in the US like Japan

  • Oh yeah, I know it’s alittle off topic, but it would be awesome if you guys could get contact with Sony & Superbot, and ask them to put either, Laharl, Etna (prefer since it needs females) or even prinny (makes most sense) in the upcoming title PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale as DLC. I think it would be great for the exposure of the best traditional Tacticle RPG, as well as Prinny is pretty well known, and alot of people would love to be shouting DOOD while beating up big daddy with a exploding penguin lol :p. Do you guys think thats possible? :) thanks in advance for a response.

    • Hey Teflon02,

That’d be absolutely amazing to see some Disgaea characters make it into the PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale! We haven’t heard anything yet, but again, if we do, I’m sure we’ll be back up here to talk about it ^^

      Thanks again!

      Ryan

  • 1.) Thank you for rocking my socks with amazing LE over and over.

2.) Please bring over all of the Vita games in development in Japan, by NIS I mean. They all look awesome, and having Atelier on Vita… yes please.

3.) People should blame the ESRB for censorship. I know you guys wouldn’t remove anything unless it was absolutely necessary to do so for release. So why people are punishing you is beyond me.

    • Hi Elvick_

      1) You’re welcome, dood! It was a blast working on creating those items!

      2) At the moment we don’t have any news on any of the NIS Vita games just yet. If we have any announcements I’ll be back here to chat!

      3) The last thing we want to do is omit things in our games, however in this case it was necessary in order to be able to release the game in the US and Europe.

      Again, thank you!

      Ryan

  • @20
Level 99 is for the weaks
For the strong is level 9999, lots of times

Like disgaea and the sum levels, dood

  • @ 22, Wow, I would love that, Prinny on Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale would be epic, Dood.

Better to be free for big fans (count me in) or Plus members (count me in again).

  • Nice to see some continued PSP digital download support, though to be honest I would’ve much rather had Makai Kingdom’s PSP version over GoC: PR. Hopefully it still has a chance at a future release, and I’d still kill to see La Pucelle Ragnarok in any localized form… Good luck with your upcoming releases NISA!!

  • Oh, note that I realize Atelier Totori Plus, isn’t developed by NIS…didntword that very well.

  • I’m so sad that it got censored but I’m still super excited to get it. I’m going to have so much fun with the customization. Hopefully I can make all my favorite Strike Witches characters :D

  • I’m really happy to hear that Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory is making its way to the United States! I can’t wait to play it! (Although, I am a little disappointed that it looks like there won’t be any mk2 avatars… Hopefully Victory gets some!)

    • Hi Jerel,

Glad to hear you’re excited! We are actually planning mk2 avatars – tentatively for the 30th of this month! So keep your eyes peeled ^^

      Have a great day!

      Ryan

  • Ryan, you really should get to nagging NISA to go digital as well as physical with all current and past releases. Some of these games are an absolute b**ch to find if you miss the first week or two of sales. More people need access to this sort of zany entertainment!

    • Hi Christian399,

I definitely hear what you are saying – I have heard that a lot of our titles are difficult to locate about a month after release – plus I’ve seen how pricey they can be on the secondary market ><. Hopefully we can continue to offer both, but in the end a lot of it has to do with negotiations and feasibility with the developers.

      All the best,

      Ryan

  • …I guess I should have read his responses first. October 30th it is then!
(Try to release the Victory ones faster please. ;p)

  • I don’t really mind the censorship (I mean, I didn’t find any use for that minigame in Agarest War 2 and, after reading the Siliconera Review, I can see why), so I gladly pick this one up, dood

  • Too lazy to read the whole thing, how much is this going to cost? Is it a PSN game or retail?

  • Cant wait! Pre-ordered the collectors edition first day. going to do the same for Neptunia V Dood!

    • Hey Pedro408sanjose,

Thank you for preordering, dood! We really hope you’ll enjoy it! More news on Neptunia V things soon ^^

      Have a great night!

      Ryan

  • @33 Mugen Souls will be 49.99 retail, no digital as of yet according to Ryan.
And Thanks for confirming Ryan, guess ill be picking up a physical copy.

  • Censored? not getting it, hopefully this will teach you guys at NISA that we want the same product that japanese people get, not a censored version and to defend the product you first released.

imagine the first neptunia censored, it wouldnt have any charm to it!

This saddens me because IM a big NISA fan u.u

  • @36: If they were censoring for the sake of censoring, then there would be far more censored than there is now.

I would rather NIS America have the ability to actually release the game…

If you an look at NISA and their history and honestly believe that they wanted to censor stuff then that makes me sad.

  • It’s not the fact that the game was censored that angers me. It’s the fact that it only received a teen rating after it was censored. I don’t see how the game would have gotten a AO rating without the censorship and I don’t think the censorship was needed.

That being said I still pre-ordered the game, but only because it was on sale at Newegg for $38.

  • It sounds like there are some MAJOR perverts here. Not getting a game because of the loli bath part being removed?

Sorry guys, but civilized parts of the world that don’t sell girl’s dirty panties in sidewalk vending machines, don’t allow under-age looking characters in nude situations in any kind of rated media. Stop being ped….oh…..”naughty”bears…… and buy the damn game if you like this type of product.

And @ 38…..it WOULDN’T have gotten an AO rating at all. Because if that scene weren’t removed from the game, it just wouldn’t have been allowed to be sold AT ALL on American or European shores. Aside from that one scene, there’s no reason it wouldn’t be a T rated game.

What’s so hard to understand here?

  • First the Nendoroids for the Pre-Orders and Neptunia V!

Ohh NIS you sure know how to make my wallet beg for mercy. LoL

    Can’t wait for Mugen Souls!

    But Question
If retail release is now the 17th according to Prinny Bomb, would that affect Online orders in being delay as well?

    –Eddy

    • Hi EddyC__,

I’m stoked to here you’re excited for the release and of course for Neptunia V!

The NISA Online store orders will ship on or before the 17th, so the one-day delay should not affect things much at all.

      All the best,

      Ryan

  • October 16th? I wish.

  • Saw the most recent e-mail about the release date. Not pleased about it, but I’ve heard that some people who preordered from NISA’s store had their order arrive early. Hopefully this holds true still and some of us get it before the 17th.

  • This looks so good next time I have money I’m for sure getting this. I just love turn based JRPG’s. If I could get this it would hold me over until Ni No Kuni Wrath of The White Witch comes out.

  • for those who interest, Neptunia V Demo is now available in Japanese PSN Store.

  • i love reading comments from butthurt fans just because they removed sexual content involving underage characters. If you are actually fighting for silly stuff like that to be kept in a game, i really feel embarrassed to call myself a gamer.

  • me personally, i’ll probably rent it from gamefly since i still have a soft spot for jrpgs but i don’t like the direction most Compile Heart/GUST/NISA games take enough to buy them full price.

  • hi ryan, Please i have Question I hope to answer it, is there any further plans for the AVATARS in PlayStation®Store US? like atelier meruru: the apprentice of arland, …

    • Hi hla-33,

We are planning Neptunia mk2 avatars for the end of the month (tentatively the 30th), however in regards to Meruru, we don’t have any plans at the moment to release avatars for that Atelier game.

      Best,

      Ryan

  • @38 and @39

It was not one scene that was removed from the game, it was an entire ‘mini-game’ in which you give baths to unclothed underage characters. Even if this game did not receive an AO rating, that kind of content is not accepted by most of this country. You can disagree with the censorship, but there were more reasons supporting the removal of the game than against it.

  • @44: Thanks for the heads up.

  • I hope there’ll be news soon on two of your upcoming PS3 titles at some point in the next 3 – 6 months.
the two titles i’m interested in are “The God and the Fate Revolution Paradox”, and “The Witch and The Hundred Knights”. I’m glad Nippon-Ichi continues to create RPG’s in general. You guys have my support.

    • Hello InternatlGamer1,

I’m glad to hear you’re excited for the aforementioned Nippon Ichi Software titles! As soon as we have some new info on either title, we’ll be back up on the PS Blog to chat about it for sure, dood!

Thank you for all your support!

      Have a great night!

      Ryan
