Ratchet & Clank 10th Anniversary Limited-Edition Poster Series Revealed

At Insomniac, we’re big fans of some of amazing artists out there creating incredible screen-printed posters for movies and games. Being able to work with Olly Moss on the cover for Resistance 3 was a highlight for all of us here.

For Ratchet & Clank’s 10th Anniversary, we wanted to work with some more of our favorite artists to create amazing, limited-edition screen-print posters celebrating everyone’s favorite Lombax and his robot companion. (If you’re curious about how screen-printing works, this video is informative.)

We partnered with our friends and collaborators iam8bit to create this highly limited edition series of posters. Each poster will be coming from a different artist, and will be hand-screened here in Los Angeles. And each one is a single-print run – so when it’s gone, it’s gone!

These will never be produced again! Seriously!

Today we’re excited to reveal the first print, along with all of the pertinent details, including where you can get your hands on it. For this print, we worked with another one of our favorite British artists, Aled Lewis, who you may know from his work with iam8bit, Threadless, TeeFury and Mondo.

In addition, the prints are being hand-made by rock poster legends, Two Rabbits Studios, in their downtown Los Angeles warehouse.

Never Outgunned

Ratchet & Clank 10th Anniversary Series #1 by Aled Lewis
18 x 28 inches
$60 edition of 300

On sale Wednesday, October 24th at the iam8bit store around 9:00am Pacific time. Check the iam8bit Facebook for updates.

We asked Aled for his take on the piece and his thoughts as he was creating it. Here’s what he said:

“Whenever we see Ratchet and Clank they are usually in the thick of the action or poised for adventure, so I thought it would be nice to see our heroes in a much lower gear; reflecting on their achievements over the last 10 years. There didn’t seem a more appropriate way to explore this than by showing a cross-section of the weapons and the gadgets that have defined the franchise and brought so much pleasure to fans of the game.

“There’s no way I could feature everyone’s favorite guns, but I tried to pick a bunch that represent each game and celebrate the variety and invention in the gameplay. I hope R&C fans get a kick out of the little details I’ve added!”

We hope you’re as excited as we are about this part of the Ratchet & Clank 10th Anniversary. Stay tuned to our Twitter feed and Facebook page for all the latest on the Anniversary as well as the upcoming Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault, and Ratchet: Deadlocked HD.

  • They look sick, but I wouldn’t pay $60.

  • TO MY WALLET!

  • This is a website sale, right? Not an in-store only type deal?

  • Oh wow… $60 bucks. They’re awesome, but priced out of range for me.

    • It’s a website sale, and these prices are pretty in line with most prints of this type due to the labor intensive nature.

  • My apologies, but I just want to clarify. This is only one of a handful of prints, each of which will have a 300-print run? Or there will be other prints and this is just the first that you’re showing today. Thanks! Just want to know if I should go for this one as soon as it’s available or if I should look around.

    • We’re going to do 3 or 4 different prints, each will have a run of 300. If you know how these things usually go, they sellout generally really quickly. We expect this will be sold out before we reveal the second print.

  • Rhino V right on top of the fireplace. Gotta keep it close by ;)

  • $60 for just posters? lol

Btw, what happened to the PS Plus discount Sony originally promised for the Ratchet and Clank Collection when it hit psn store?

  • I wish Full Frontal Assault would dhow PS Vita gameplay and we’d get a release date Im tired of last second releases, I can’t afford it if I don’t save in advance (literally). BTW people, it’s about being rare, not what it is, you can buy it and seal it somewhere for 10 years and make thousands because its the only copy in the world from my understanding

  • That is awesome… but you can only buy it if you’re in LA? No online sales?

  • These aren’t just posters. They are screened prints which offer much vibrant colours than a digital print would. So don’t think of it as buying a poster, think of it as buying a print of a painting, in which case the $60 seems pretty reasonable.

  • That is pretty cool, I wish I wasnt strapped for cash atm :/

  • more of a Resistance kinda guy myself but this poster has me drooling

  • I’m in for a few of the prints if I am lucky enough to get them. Do you guys run like Mondo Posters where until you checkout you don’t have the print reserved?

  • James, I took a silk-screen art class so I know that this is a labor intensive art form. Price is very reasonable for a numbered, limited run art work. What a fantastic Christmas gift for an R&C fan.

    • Thanks for the kind words! We’re hoping to actually do some footage of the printing of this so people can understand what it takes.

I’m really excited to get mine and get it framed up, but you’re right, it’s the best gift EVER for a Ratchet & Clank fan. Frame it up right and it’ll last a lifetime.

  • @2, I like that battle cry! Everyone… to your wallets!!! Very nice art; now let’s find a suitable place on my wall…

  • So you won’t be revealing the other print designs before they are ready to go on sale? I would rather be prepared to know which one I want…but I guess if they are all as cool as this one then it’s ok.

    • Correct, the other prints will come up as they go. This is pretty standard in the art print / screen print poster world

  • Any chance EU can get this?

  • Did you guys get inspiration from Breaking Bad? They did this as well. I want that poster so badly! Will they come out once a week?

  • Will each print run for $60? Perhaps you guys should reveal all of the prints, and then people could choose the ones they would like to purchase, as buying each one is rather expensive.

Also, do you foresee these prints selling out within minutes, hours, days, …?

Thanks, and I will be buying at least one!

    • We aren’t sure yet. The good news is they generally hold their value and/or go up in value, so you can collect / trade / buy / sell on the secondary market too.

The prices per print will vary based on size, colors used etc.

  • Please give me a release date for FFA it looks fantastic and i can’t wait

  • That is so beautiful. And I love the contrast. A peaceful moment between friends surrounded by Ratchet’s deadly weapons. And is that Mr. Zurkon on the table?

  • Any chance we can see what all the prints look like in advance so we can decide which one we want to buy?

    • Nope, this is sort of how these print series work. Each one is a surprise and then goes on sale. Just remember they all hold their value pretty well and are collectible. You can usually trade / buy / sell after the fact.

(and the others aren’t done yet!)

  • But of course you can’t get a cheap frame for something like this.

Will there be a framing option when ordered?

    • No framing option when ordered, that gets hyper expensive and then you gotta ship it. Better bet is to find a place close to you that does it well / inexpensively (the big chains, not so much… good mom and pop stores, yay!).

You can also try a website like AmericanFrame.com

  • hey james any updates on a release date for FFA

  • \why can’t you guys be like other developers/publisher’s the minute they announce a game they announce a release date along with it but it looks like you guys are going to announce FFA 3 days before release.

    • It won’t be three days before release, and why don’t we announce the date? Because we don’t know. As soon as we are SURE of a date, you can be certain we’re working on plans to announce it.

  • Very cool item.
People don’t seem to realize this isn’t an Ink Jet print-out here!
$60 sounds like a deal.. For a limited production art piece.

    • Exactly! It’s pretty awesome. It’s so limited even Insomniacs have to buy them and let me tell you, folks are STOKED on these here.

  • Going to wake up to grab one of those when sales open.

  • welcome to insomniac games we release our games when we finish our games don’t you guys have a certain amount off time to finish a game becuase it doesn’t look like you do.

    • We do. But with this game, we had to finish and then the Vita port had to get done, so there was a window there and we weren’t quite sure how long it was going to take. Rather than announce a date and potentially not hit it, we want to make sure it’s out on the day we say it’s going to be.

Regardless, stay tuned, the date announcement is coming soon.

  • well according to your twitter it sounds like your waiting on the vita version to be finished you said the ps3 version is almost finished.

  • What kind of spacing between each release of each of the posters are we talking about. This does look amazing but what if I buy one and find out when the next one is released I would have rather spent my $60 on that one. Also, will shipping to the UK be an option?

    • Shipping to the UK will be an option, it’ll be a bit more expensive than US shipping though, of course.

It’ll probably be a month or so between each one. We expect each print to sell out WELL before the next one is revealed.

  • I wish I had the Money for it I would have bought it,anyone want to buy me this I would pay you back Iam a man of my words but I know this world we live know one turst people these days to do the right thing and keep there word but,Iam a big Ratchet and Clank Fan ha ha but yea I like this poster!! O_O Hay James do you know the release date for Ratchet and Clank FFA for NA?

  • How about a background :P

  • Where the heck is playstation all stars beta?
You said it would be out 2 day

  • One of those posters you don’t dare to use thumb tacks on. Collection. Set it in a glass frame. And hang it on the wall. It’s a good I know I would keep it in excellent condition. And don’t dare get it ruined for the $60.

Would be a piece hung in my office next to the ps3 and computer. Very detail piece.

Other question: Where is the PS3 System Software Update (V4.30)? Posted October 21. Quote: Next Tuesday, October 23rd, we will be releasing a new system software update for PlayStation 3 (version 4.30).

It is already 23rd. Past 17:00 (5:00 PM). Really late with this. Waiting to get the update. And for them to update it here on the forums at the bottom to read PS3 System update V4.30.

  • Thanks for replying, with a month between I should be able to afford each print (considering they don’t sell out)! And that’s good to know, the extra shipping costs will be worth it :)

  • ehh $60 O______O

throw in the Rachet and Clank HD Collection and i’ll bite :P

  • 60$ for posters ? wow i guess 2012 realy is the end of manking. **FacePalms**

  • Sweet! Looks epic! I’ll probably buy two. One for a Christmas gift and one for myself haha. Unless there’s a limit on how many we can buy then I don’t know what I’ll do.

  • Too much for me, even if the quality is great.

  • I have to agree, $60 is a bit steep. However all things considered, along w/ the fact a regular poster would run @ least $20, it’s a very reasonable price. If things weren’t tight I’d likely jump on the entire series. It’s already off to a great start. Love how they’re reflecting by the fireplace w/ the weapons on the Wall. The comment is too fitting and kick A as well. Looking forward to the rest. I’m sure there’s going to be one I’ll have to bite on. Great work!

  • BAAAH! I’m sure I am not the first to make note of the $60 price tag, but I want this enough because I feel as if Ratchet and Clank won’t be a name anymore one day. To go down in history as something great, I’m not sure how to say it or if it makes sense. But he was a hero to me, though growing up with Crash and Spyro, Ratchet had that, “I won’t back down regardless” attitude. Sometimes things just seemed hopeless and that was when Clank would reignite the emotion to move forward in Ratchet’s heart. One of the best video game Hero/sidekick relationships ever. I say that with a lot of video game knowledge, not only because it’s preseved by me as a great game, but a great game among all that ever was. So in turn of the time it took to do this by hand it seems that a $60 fee is downright underselling it. I’ve sold pieces of my own at art shows for more, public ones. If you don’t jump on this and you claim to be an avid R&C fan then you are probably misinterpreting yourself as someone else ;p. The only sad news is that I get paid in two weeks ;_; I’ma just go draw some Ratchet and Clank fanart I suppose…

  • Not to mention it landed right on my birthday. Hahaha! Darn yooouu!

  • Hay One More thing James If You don’t mind but can I buy this online because I really want this I live good old New York City so I can’t make it to LA I tell you some of the cool stuff happens in LA lucky the Ratchet and Clank fans down there should happy…..

  • Will gladly pay more than $60…IF you make a print with a bunch of Sony/Playstation characters on a Bar or billiards setting! Nathan Drake, Sack Boy, Cole, Solid Snake, Cloud…you get the idea, Just relaxing or having fun. Make This happen and you’ll be swimming in money!

  • @43… they ship, I just bought one and I live in Toronto. Shipping was an additional $25 for me (probably less for you).

  • Haha Wow I just Bought mine just now and.. we’ll its was an extra $45 Postage Plus $4 Tax, That’s AU $ as I live in Sydney Australia.

  • For me, the total was almost $77 (totally worth it).

  • Bought mine.
So, just to be clear, you won’t be introducing the next design until this one sells out? Or are you just introducing it at a later date.
