PlayStation All-Stars Goes Gold, Opening Cinematic and Final Boss Unveiled

Polygon Man

Seth Killian's Avatar Posted by on Nov 08, 2012 // Lead Game Designer, Sony Santa Monica Studio

Stretching back from my roots as a tournament player to my current gig as lead game designer for Sony’s Santa Monica Studio, I’ve spent over two decades in fighting games, and have been thrilled to revisit so many great memories from my own PlayStation history with the characters and stages of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.

I’m here today on behalf of SuperBot Entertainment, Bluepoint Games, and Santa Monica Studio to announce that PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale has gone gold on PS3 and PS Vita! All of us are extremely grateful for the help from our beta players in testing our networking, and thrilled to see the amazing response from all of you that played the beta, which is just a small slice of the full game.

In celebration of this milestone, we wanted to share something special as a small “thank you!” to all the amazing PlayStation fans who have helped us come so far. Today we’re officially unveiling the opening cinematic sequence to the game. We’ve been pretty tight-lipped about our final boss, but if you hang in until the end you’ll get a glimpse of the villainous mastermind that’s returned from the depths of PlayStation history to pull the strings in All-Stars.

Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and if your interest is piqued, remember to pre-order All-Stars today! Pre-ordering scores you an exclusive costume for every character in the game, and with Cross-Buy, every PS3 copy comes with a download code for the PS Vita version at the low, low cost of zero!

Thanks again to PlayStation fans around the world for your incredible support, and come November 20th, I’ll see you online — just look for the unbeatable Drake player at the top of the leaderboards. :P

Yes I knew it was Polygonman once his info was removed from wikipedia. Anyway I can’t wait for this game and glad you guys used finale for the theme I liked the song ever since it was used during the Sony Gamescom Press Conference.

To everyone who are mad at certain third party characters being left out(Crash, Spyro, Cloud, etc) they should spam Activision and Square Enix on twitter/facebook because its their fault not Sony or Superbot.

Thank you Superbot for creating this game. Even though my boy Crash Bandicoot isn’t in the game because of Activision I am not letting that ruin my excitement for this game that I wanted created ever since the PS1.

Polygon Man as the final boss! Awesome! I believe Polygon Man best deserve this position, since he WAS the first Playstation mascot for the first Playstation console! (Before Sony scrapped him).

Anyways, SuperBot Ent, I have a question for you:

For the pre-order incentives, the 20 alternative costumes that come with pre-ordering the game, will they be available later in the year on the PSN Store for people who did not purchase the game on day 1?

SuperBot ent you guy’s did good, i appreciate testing out the hands on beta from my PS3/PSVita.Managed to get into a couple of great matches while maintaining Sweet Tooth. You guy’s would do wonders if included either of the following below as future DLC.Apologize on behalf of my selfish needs of this highly anticipated title, but it will definitely boost my confidence in pre ordering.thanks again S-Kill ,Omar,daT ClackWerk n all SuperBot ent Staff for your hard work.

Will there be a custom OST function? You know, with the built-in music player of both the PS3 and the VIta? Either way, I’ll be getting it.

What about a new Jak and Daxter game (for PS3 and Vita)?

+ Richard919 on November 9th, 2012 at 7:34 am said:

this trailer was totally bad ass! i had a blast with the beta on PS3 and Vita. I cant wait for Nov 20th!!

+ Cyberendpunk on November 9th, 2012 at 7:54 am said:

Nariko and the new Donte are not All-Stars. One is from the worst action game I played this gen and other a bastardization of a fan favorite character. Shame you guys are spineless and let developers put any crap in your game. So much cross promotion garbage instead of a proper homage to the brand.

AND THIS SHOULD OF BEEN IN 3D! PlayStation paved the way for 3D gaming in 1994 so making a 2D mash-up of its history completely goes against the very nature of the brand. This is no treat for the fans but a blatant cash grab. Hope it bombs critically and commercially. Sony needs to go back to the drawing table. Such a wasted potential.

Hello! Thanks for the update, and I am pumped about this game. I was just curious in advance, however, as to the delivery method of the DLC costumes that comes with the pre-orders. I only ask because I had issues with obtaining the costumes that come with LittleBigPlanet Vita pre-orders. Thanks for the help!

+ Earthling_8 on November 9th, 2012 at 8:20 am said:

I have to say that trailer…was incredible!!! With that aside I can say that this game has grown on me. Am I satisfied all in all? Sadly like most the roster is the main issue but with PS classics like Sweetooth and Sir Dan I think all will be okay. Yeah!

Will the vita copy be an included code or will it be some functionality of the disk?

+ TomatoDragon on November 9th, 2012 at 1:08 pm said:

Played the beta quite a bit, and was playing some today at the Best Buy. Totally stoked for this game. I think Nariko is gonna be my main character. Still one of my favorite games this gen. Already pre-ordered!

just pre ordered it today.

Again, primary, priorities and most important to PlayStation characters are all the announced characters except for Fat Princess (you better make her and her franchise huge after including her in this game), new Dante (needs to be original Dante), Raiden (WTF? needs to be Snake), Big Daddy (not even close to any type of important to PlayStation) and Nariko (cool character and I like her but she’s not a primary, priority, most important to PlayStation character at the moment).

Missing characters:

Crash: Original mascot of PlayStation
Spyro: Other original mascot of PlayStation
Snake: MGS is huge and very important to PlayStation, enough said.
Lara Croft: Very important to PlayStation.
Robbit: Very important to PlayStation
Final Fantasy, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Gran Turismo, GTA, Devil May Cry, Syphon Filter, Rayman, ICO, The Getaway, Socom, Dark Cloud and so many more.

Assassins Creed, Gravity Rush and all the other reps some kids are saying are no where near important.

+ NeoGuardian86 on November 9th, 2012 at 4:54 pm said:

looking forward to playing.
the beta was a perfect try out, i think i wouldn’t be picking this game up otherwise.

please understand i know it’s supposed to be a beta and not a demo, and as such i treated it like a beta, but i could see even in the beta that this was going to be a fun game.

+ retro25 on November 9th, 2012 at 7:43 pm said:

The final boss seems really familiar. It’s Polygon Man, a demo character from the early PSone days. Yeah I hope Crash, Spyro and Lara Croft be DLC characters for this game.

+ MXJC on November 9th, 2012 at 10:06 pm said:

Cole and or evil Cole all the way!! Woooo!!!!!! I am pumped!!

+ Dookykong on November 10th, 2012 at 12:49 am said:

Thank you! Bluepoint Games for everything you’ve done, from working on this game and many HD collections. The Vita version looks crazy very well colored and layered. Only question I have is what’s the size of this game file for the PS Vita?

+ Dookykong on November 10th, 2012 at 1:18 am said:

Umm.. I find my self buying and playing games the characters came from. Just to get a feel of their back story and to see if you really captured their essence, like I just played Sly Cooper for the first time (now a fan) but just playing him in the Beta I was very happy how well you guys protrayed his character & move set (he still needs a dodge roll). I will be picking this up with Persona 4 Golden (hint* a character Yu need to add).

Hey Seth, I (and a lot of people on NeoGaf) are wondering if PlayStation All Stars will be downloadable for US customers at midnight or if there are any plans to get it on the store earlier than the usually kind of late PlayStation Store update.
And a side note, this is definitely going to be my personal game of the year, I’m so excited! And you specifically have done a great job being a sort of spokesperson at PSAS related events, so thanks for all that!

+ JayBizzle311 on November 10th, 2012 at 7:54 pm said:

Just pre-ordered my copy… However, I do have a question. Do you know how long the expiration code for the downloadble PS Vita cross buy copy will last?

I don’t have a Vita yet, but I have to considering it since the holidays are coming. I figure I could buy myself something.. So I was curious.

Playstation? You do video games, right? Well, did you know that “Gold” means that it has been released to the general public? No? You’re kidding me, right? Hmm.

Had some issues with the beta as well as the match ups it put you in, however seeing as there is a solo mode, as well as cross buy I may end up falling off the fence onto to buy side. We shall see ;)

This game is amazing! I’ve thrown parties at my house and had this on people just got hooked. Obviously they can’t put so many characters in the game 20 is enough for a first title. Now DLC is considered as well! I’m extremely happy to purchase this. My only hope is that Sephiroth or Vincent from final fantasy (I’m tired of seeing cloud all the time), Raziel from Soul Reaver, Dart from Legend Of Dragoon, Mega man or Zero, maybe even Alucard from castlevania symphony of the night. The list could go on for ever but those are the main characters I would like to see in here. I also hope there’s a ranking system in this game too I’m huge when it comes to online gaming. I have my copy preordered and ready to go. I own a ps3 (obviously) and a Ps Vita I can’t wait to get my hands on the full game! And that arrival trailer and song is stuck in my head!
