PlayStation Plus for PS Vita Available Next Week – Take the Tour

Don Mesa's Avatar Posted by on Nov 13, 2012 // Director, Product Planning & Platform Software Innovation, SCEA

During Tokyo Game Show we announced that PlayStation Plus would be coming to PlayStation Vita in November. We are excited to reveal that PS Plus will be available on November 19th as part of the next PS Vita System Software Update (v2.00).

I teamed up with Ray Bautista, Product Manager of Digital Platforms Strategic Planning to give you a sneak peek at the Instant Game Collection for PS Vita and all of the benefits and features that PS Plus has to offer. Today I’ll walk you through some of the other new features you can look forward to with the system software update, including an email app, the ability to transfer content wirelessly between your PS Vita and PC, and enhancements to the web browser.

With the addition of PS Plus, and such a great lineup of exclusive games launching by this holiday, now is the perfect time to purchase a PS Vita.

As Ray mentioned, PS Plus will offer exclusive discounts and bonus features for both PS Vita and PlayStation 3 members. In addition to online storage for game saves, automatic updates and Trophy synching, PS Plus members will get access to the Instant Game Collection, a constantly updated library selection of games, starting when the PlayStation Store updates on Tuesday, November 20th.

Once you update your PS Vita to v2.00 and PS Store publishes next Tuesday, PS Plus members will be able to download the Instant Game Collection, which includes PS Vita games Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Jet Set Radio HD, WipEout 2048, Gravity Rush and Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack!, as well as (PSP) PlayStation Portable hit Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions.

Don’t forget that PS3 users with an existing PS Plus membership will be able to enjoy PS Plus features and services on both PS3 and PS Vita systems at no additional cost. You will be able to choose between the two subscription options — a three month plan for $17.99 and a one year plan for $49.99.

For more information on System Software Updates, please visit this page, which will provide additional details on v2.00 when the update goes live.

6.5 GB. For every one of those games (except JSR since that’s not out on PSN Vita yet).

6. Point. 5. GB.

RRRAAAGGGHHH!!! Now, I know the online storage will let us upload our save files, but I DEFINITELY need some kind of reassurance that I can safely delete all of my Vita games and still keep my save files. This is especially true for the PSN-Only titles, like, say, Disgaea 3.

Even if the updates for this are lackluster for the next 7 months this will still be a huge value for anyone on the fence about getting the vita, or the people on the fence about plus.

All I can think about is what happens at E3 next year. If they do something similar to last year and roll out 12 kickass games for ps3 + and 6 kickass for vita + that will be epic. So glad I signed up for that credit card and got the extended year for plus, now I’m not up for renewal until april or may of 2014.

Oh, and here’s a query: Will we finally be able to buy premium avatars through the Vita store with firmware 2.0?

+ bwhitlat on November 13th, 2012 at 9:38 am said:

When is Wake-up club going to come out for Vita? This is the only app that I was looking forward to. It would be nice to make the Vita an Alarm clock since I always have it on a stand next to my bed.

+ bwhitlat on November 13th, 2012 at 9:38 am said:

Also when can we have more than 10 blocks of icons on the vita? I’m already near the limit of 100 app/games on my vita?

+ Dubloon7 on November 13th, 2012 at 9:39 am said:

i just bought a 32GB card on craigslist for $50. just look online for deals.

if anyone wants to buy a brand new, unopened 8GB card, and/or a vita accessory starter kit (includes (1) 4GB card) just PM me.

I’m so glad now I didn’t waste money on Uncharted, Gravity Rush, or Mutant Blob attack. I wanted all 3 of those games but $40 is a total ripoff.

But now…they’re free!?!? AWESOME!

LittleBigPlanet, Assassin’s Creed, and Mortal Kombat are the only vita games I bought because they have replayability. So glad I can add the instant game collection to my vita and keep that dust off of the screen for a LONG time! :) Thanks again!

+ Tjoeb123 on November 13th, 2012 at 9:39 am said:

Make that ANYTHING with our avatars on PS Vita PERIOD. You know, so I won’t have to buy/change them on my PS3 only.

Hopefully next time you guys will add Call of Duty Declassified and Resistance so i don’t have to waste money on those either! :)

Currently buying a 32gb memory card from Tiger Direct as I type this to prepare for plus on Vita. That si a great launch setup. Now those who haven’t tried Wipeout can and I can enjoy the rest!!!

One more question, Will we ever be able to do wireless transfer content between PS3 and Vita?

+ W-8oRd3rPaTr0l-J on November 13th, 2012 at 9:42 am said:

Son of a gun plus sucks. I thought the deal for Mutant blobs this past update was a good deal until they made it free the next week. How is plus supposed to save people money when people buy the “deals” then some of them are free the next week. I hope in the future plus discounts are completely removed as they are useless.

+ Veitsknight2 on November 13th, 2012 at 9:42 am said:

I think Rey made that video.

+ Illumina-XIV on November 13th, 2012 at 9:42 am said:

As a diehard PlayStation fan, I’d love to sign up for PS+, but I don’t like the fact that I have no option to buy games, DLC, etc. when they’re being offered for free through PS+. To me, the instant game collection is a great way to try games and content I may not have otherwise, but I still want the capability to pay for it if I like it so that I can support the developer. The fact that I don’t have that freedom is a deal-breaker for me. Sony should seriously look at rectifying this, I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels this way.

+ Veitsknight2 on November 13th, 2012 at 9:43 am said:

Discounts are awesome. Owning most games, I need the discounts to get more out of my Plus subscription. Just because it sucks for you, does not necessarily mean it sucks.

+ Illumina-XIV on November 13th, 2012 at 9:44 am said:

@151 Disgaea 3 isn’t download only man.

+ MatheusRuggeri on November 13th, 2012 at 9:44 am said:

Thank you so much.

Now, I searching where buy one PS Vita.

+ Sevyne on November 13th, 2012 at 9:44 am said:

I was honestly only expecting 3 games. Even then I was only expecting 1 of the cheaper Vita games and maybe 2 PSP games or 1 PSP game and a PSOne Classic. Boy was I wrong.

Honestly, if I complain about any Vita offerings through plus for the rest of the year please slap me, because this month alone is already worth more than the price of 1 year. Color me impressed.

Thank you Sony, the developers and Playstation team.

+ zappajustin on November 13th, 2012 at 9:45 am said:

I am very impressed! Please Sony, advertise the heck out of this on TV and everywhere so that people know there is a better option over the 3DS. This will sell Vita’s if it’s effectively communicated to the masses, not just gamers. It would even be better to include a 3 month PS+ membership with every Vita sold. Every parent is looking for a game to come with a new console and you have just given them 6 excellent games.

+ Sevyne on November 13th, 2012 at 9:46 am said:

Also, I’m definitely going to need another memory card. I already have a 32gb card. Think I’m going to need one ONLY for Plus.

+ Nick930930 on November 13th, 2012 at 9:46 am said:

@ 166

So you’re saying… you’d rather be able to pay then get the game free…..

You are a sad strange little man.

+ TRIX_BOL on November 13th, 2012 at 9:48 am said:

Some PlayStation players want to Edit/Change their nicknames while keeping their trophies & Download List intact. ex: iOS allow consumers to change public gaming Nickname in the ‘Game Center App’. Come on Sony Network Entertainment, ya’ll can allow us to change ID at least for once.

Sony hit the jackbot with this 2.00 update. REALLY trying to sell Vita for the holidays. But just wait, as soon as Christmas ends, these awesome instant game deals will start to lose their luster.

Here’s hoping they stay as strong as this!

+ tayfinch on November 13th, 2012 at 9:48 am said:

This is an AMAZING lineup. I own almost all the announced games (though I’ll be happy to add Wipeout to my collection!), and yet I’m still VERY excited by this announcement.

My hope is the Vita will become more appealing this holiday cycle, and we can add more Vita players to the pack. We need more Vita love. A lot more Vita love. : )

+ JROD0823 on November 13th, 2012 at 9:49 am said:

People like 126 and 164 will never be satisfied with good services like Plus. Even if Sony gave them the whole store for free, and a happy ending, they would still complain.

+ WCKidRock on November 13th, 2012 at 9:49 am said:

I don’t have any of these games! I haven’t been able to pick up a top game since I scrapped together the money to get this awesome system! also being able to access my computer while I am charging is a good thing!

I also am very very happy I can check my gmail and go to any site now and have it work! (HTML 5 and java!!!!!!!)

Thank you Thank you Thank you

Hello All Vita Owners,

I am a newbie as well as Rookie to the VITA gaming world. I own a VITA and this is great news for price conscious VITA owner like me. I just have 1 questions-
If I want to download everything in the PS VITA PLUS bundle except Uncharted (because I already have it) then how much of memory storage is required. I have a 4GB card. Do I have to buy an additonal 32 GB card for it?
Or else with the membership is there an option where in I can download the games one at a time in the 1 yr period so that I do not have to buy an additional card.
Please reply.

Thanks in advance.

How is wanting to pay a developer for a game they worked hard to make, and I really enjoyed, strange or sad at all? If I really like the game I want to show them I did, and ensure they have the financial means to continue making games I love. In addition, I’d like the security of knowing that I have access to my most loved games even if my PS+ subscription lapses.

+ tayfinch on November 13th, 2012 at 9:54 am said:

@180 It depends on how big each of the games are. You can check them out on the Vita Store right now and jot down their download sizes. Some of those games are pretty big, and you’ll be lucky to get them all + preexisting content on your card. I’m gonna call it a safe bet that they wont all fit.

That said, you’ll never be sorry for upgrading the size of your card. I’m loving my 32, and REALLY hoping for a 64 soon (come on, Sony!)!

+ pudgenet on November 13th, 2012 at 9:57 am said:

If I don’t have a Vita yet, can I download the games on my PS3 and still have them available when I get my Vita, even if the games have expired from the Instant Game Collection?

@188: You should be able to. As long as you queue up the download before they are removed from Plus, they are yours as long as you have an active membership.

Absolutely unbelievable. I was excited to see Plus come to Vita, but had no idea it would be this good. Uncharted and Gravity Rush are instant downloads for me. So glad I’m going to be on fall break next week, because my Tuesday just got a lot busier!

Ahhh, disappointed. I already own 5 of the 6. But at least I get a digital copy of War of the Lions and try out Jet Set Radio. Can’t complain though, as these are really good games for those who don’t have them.

PS plus is truly a steal with all this value. I’ve seen enough. I’ll definitely be purchasing a year subscription for the first time. I’d be stupid not to.

Cool starter PSVita games, but could morgan please anwser my questions:
1- is there going to be ps vita free content on ps plus?
2- if you dont have a ps vita can you add content to the download list and download it later on?
3- is there any news on Final Fantasy X HD?
4-can you download content in 2 PS3 and 1 PS vita?
5-where is the monthly update?

I’m not Morgan or Sony but:

1 – You are seeing the free PS+ content. What you see is the IGC just like the PS3 titles PS Plus now poffers. Don’t be confused by the $5, that is the cost of PS + per month, and they are highlighting what you money would get you for free.

2 – PS3 store has a Vita store front you can purchase content on. There is also a PC program for a content manager that allows purchases.

4 – Yes. However the PSN account does allow for 2 portable devices and 2 PS3 devices.

5 – Morgan has posted feedback that while the poll did request monthly updates, it was also stated that if they were to do monthly update it would take a few months to implement. He also said that they were taking it under advisement and have/will not implement monthly updates.

I got a few questions

1: Your saying that current plus members will also get the Vita benefits with no extra charge, douse this mean that Vita and PS3 plus will be sold as separate packages?
2. If so, how much will Vita Plus cost ?
3: if they are separate packages, with there be a special offer for those who want to get both?
4: Will vita plus members get a discount on a beary exciting title releasing on the vita next week?
