PlayStation Plus for PS Vita Available Next Week – Take the Tour

During Tokyo Game Show we announced that PlayStation Plus would be coming to PlayStation Vita in November. We are excited to reveal that PS Plus will be available on November 19th as part of the next PS Vita System Software Update (v2.00).

I teamed up with Ray Bautista, Product Manager of Digital Platforms Strategic Planning to give you a sneak peek at the Instant Game Collection for PS Vita and all of the benefits and features that PS Plus has to offer. Today I’ll walk you through some of the other new features you can look forward to with the system software update, including an email app, the ability to transfer content wirelessly between your PS Vita and PC, and enhancements to the web browser.

With the addition of PS Plus, and such a great lineup of exclusive games launching by this holiday, now is the perfect time to purchase a PS Vita.

As Ray mentioned, PS Plus will offer exclusive discounts and bonus features for both PS Vita and PlayStation 3 members. In addition to online storage for game saves, automatic updates and Trophy synching, PS Plus members will get access to the Instant Game Collection, a constantly updated library selection of games, starting when the PlayStation Store updates on Tuesday, November 20th.

Once you update your PS Vita to v2.00 and PS Store publishes next Tuesday, PS Plus members will be able to download the Instant Game Collection, which includes PS Vita games Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Jet Set Radio HD, WipEout 2048, Gravity Rush and Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack!, as well as (PSP) PlayStation Portable hit Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions.

Don’t forget that PS3 users with an existing PS Plus membership will be able to enjoy PS Plus features and services on both PS3 and PS Vita systems at no additional cost. You will be able to choose between the two subscription options — a three month plan for $17.99 and a one year plan for $49.99.

For more information on System Software Updates, please visit this page, which will provide additional details on v2.00 when the update goes live.

  • @TwinDad

Ok Thanks. I was just curious because they said existing members, didn’t know if that meant new members also would get both collections.

  • Sony Rules! Keep it up! *cheers*

  • I just have 3 things to say: YES YES YES!!!

  • I may as well join in and say…Thanks Guy’s….Excited for Plus on Vita :)

  • I like what you are doing, sadly you are offering retail games that 100% of Vista owners already have… :/. Looking forward for new games next time.

  • Awesome I hope this gets more people to jump on the vita and fill the multiplayer space!! Now I just have to save to get a 2nd vita since I gifted one to my little bro!!!

  • I think this will be a no but today my plus ended and i was wondering if the vita games for the month can be played on the ps3 or are they all not playable cause i wont be buying a vita anytime soon (or i might who knows)

  • ERMAHGERD. I love you, Sony. You are too good to us. I was already saying anyone that doesn’t subscribe to PS+ is insane, but now even moreso. Thank you!!

  • hi i just saw your comment about saying if someone didn’t have a vita that they could download plus items for vita and when they get there vita it will be there. well i have a ps + account and was with out my ps3 for 4 months and couldent get free games from ps + . Is there any place where you could do that without having a ps3 momentarily but dont want to miss out on getting the monthly free items? Thanks for your time

  • @259: Wait…so you do not have a PS3 or a Vita, but you have PSPlus? Why would you do that? Am I just misunderstanding you?

  • Already have Gravity Rush and FF War Of The Lions BUT DAYUM, YOU GUYS DELIVERED.

I was on the fence with Uncharted but this is amazing.

I’m not usually whining about updates or anything, but this is stunning, I wasn’t expecting more than 3 games to be honest. Plus, being able to play Jet Set Radio for the first time is gonna be amazing.

    Keep up the good work.

PS: Is the Dungeon Defenders a mistake or is it going to come next week too?

  • Nevermind. Seems I missed a line. Call me a fool now!

  • Wow the initial IGC actually looks fairly good for the Vita, already own one of them, but that’s a lot less than the PS3 style (and I’m glad others will now have gravity rush, great game.)

Please don’t fall into the terrible pattern that PS3 plus has, don’t start releasing really old crappy games after making the first update a good one.

Hopefully there will be a bunch of upcoming 25-50% discounts for Vita like the old (much better) version of the PS3 plus had.

  • @211 You’re probably right, I’m sure they do get something for their games being on plus. I do seem to recall the Dead Nation guys ranting about their game losing sales because it was on plus after the network outage last year though. Regardless, I’d also like to have permanent copies of the games I really love so that I can always play them, PS+ or not.

@217 Well good for you, honestly. I’m glad the current program meets your personal needs. I do personally buy every game available on a disk in a retail store, my comments were referring to downloadable games and content. I feel I should have the option to buy or download for free if it’s being offered through PS+, I really don’t think it’s a lot to ask for, and nobody would be forcing you or anyone else to pay if you feel you don’t want/need to.

  • i have a ps3 but it broke and will be with out till i get my other one mailed to me

  • Noooooooooo I already have Uncharted lol ;p oh well :) wish there were a few more games for Vita as PS3 gets double but hopefully the IGC for Vita will expand in the future :)

  • AWE News!!

Just a lil question about “ability to transfer content wirelessly between your PS Vita and PC”

Will OSX have a too for PSVita?

    Thanks!

  • @265: I believe their might be a way to do it on your PC, but I haven’t tried. I’m sure their is someone that should know though.

  • Oh my! This is simple amazing! All the waiting was worth! Even though I already 4 of the 6 games. AND, I was waiting for an e-mail app! Thank you very much!
    Never Stop Playing!

  • Very strong starting lineup and inclusion of the cloud game saves and automatic updates but automatic Trophy syncing? Does PlayStation Vita also have the mistake of the PS3 that you have to manually sync them? If so, this really needs to stop, it needs to be fixed asap. It’s a 2012 console and you have all the previous consoles, including you own to look at, there’s absolutely no excuse. It’s really ridiculous. You screw up in the most simple things.

Keep improving PlayStation Vita, for example, browsing the web while doing anything, like gaming, even 3DS can do that.

And now the Plus is on PSVita, drop the price of the memory cards, they’re very expensive.

Although I want a white PSVita, I might buy the $200 Call of Duty bundle. Keep doing good things and fix errors so current consumers keep their PSVita and keep being your consumers and don’t sell their PlayStation and leave and so you get more consumers.

  • When will you guys begin advertising PS Plus to the masses?

  • I own Tales From Space, Uncharted, Wipeout, and Gravity Rush. And I have Jet Set Radio (which didn’t age well) on XBLA, so Final Fantasy is the only new one to me, and I hated the original Tactics. :(

Good collection, but kinda screws over loyal buyers who’ve had more than enough time to buy the games.

  • Wow I’m very impressed and very glad to be a Plus Subscribe. Thanks.

  • yes u can do it for psp with pc software media go but just for original ps games and psp mini, all keep digging thanks

  • Even though I have all the Vita RPGs and so this wouldn’t affect me, I hope you add one to the Vita’s PS Plus lineup soon to increase the variety of what’s available, maybe do one hour full game trials perhaps? With the RPGs out, especially Ragnarok Odyssey and Dungeon Hunter Alliance, a one hour trial would be plenty of time to check the game out and get into it.

And also maybe have Lunar be a PS Plus game, either sale or free game of the month would be great.

  • can you download the games from the ps3 store for free and have them on your hdd to move over to your vita or can you only get them for free from the vita store?

  • YES! THIS IS WHAT I WANTED FOR VITA!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @272 thats the bad side of plus. :(

  • @ Illumina-XIV I think them losing sales has to do with Dead Nation being in the Welcome Back deal which had nothing to do with PS+ and was available to everybody that was affected by the PSN outage.

  • did i miss when dungeon defenders came out for plus or has that not come out already for the igc?

  • @276 you can download them onto your ps3 and transfer from there if you want.

  • I don’t know if this could be quickly tossed into the next update, but I want to bring something to the attention of someone who’s actually capable of reaching the firmware update developers: the PSP emulator is missing a very, very important feature.

When PSP was released with just one analog, it forced people into reversed “south-paw” style controls… and while we were able to adjust to it, it created a situation for PlayStation Vita. We can use Vita’s left analog to supplement the use that PSP’s right analog had, but since most used that for aiming, we have a no-win situation where we either have to play PSP shooters on Vita with fake “simulated analog” on the right stick, or play the game backwards with left analog aiming.

The solution would be really simple too… the same screen long-press menu we use to access advanced options during a PSP game should house a “Swap analogs” option which would; of course, put all functions of the right analog on the left (and vice versa). This way, we could have our real 360-degree aiming on the right analog where it belongs.

  • Thank you SONY!! Thank you SCEA!!

    Thank you PlayStation family!

I’m already Plus on PS3, but now I’m seriously considering getting a PSVita! :)

    you guys are so user-friendly

  • Cross-Buy, Cross-Play, and PS Plus for Vita??? that is awesome!!

  • Pretty much the best early Xmas gift ever. Long live SONY!
I have a 500GB HDD being shipped to me right now because
of so much free content Sony gives away. PS3 phat upgrade.
Now I can just save the Vita games to it and finish em 1 by 1
with no threat of space issues.
Now, I’m gonna go to a certain FAQ msg board and make fun of
people who were talking smack about the Vita.
    Thanks again Sony!

  • Also if you guys are looking at feedback on what to improve or add to the PS Vita… please look at the Share portion of the blog. It hasn’t been updated in a month now and there are still a ton of good ideas that have yet to be implemented. I could continue to list them off here but it’s easier to just go take a look.

  • So much win with this update. Transferring things wirelessly between PS Vita and PC is great but it’s kinda strange we can’t do that between PS Vita and PS3 as well. Reaching my PS3’s USB ports while it’s inside my entertainment center is really hard. I wish I could do it wirelessly.

  • Ok maybe i’m going to sound dumb but, playstation plus has now become too good to be true? There is so much stuff coming from playstation plus, i’m failing to see where you can profit from giving so much to us XD

  • All I want to know is!!! How can Sony make money if they are giving the house away for free???

  • Nice update! Can’t wait to try the email app.

  • That is so awesome; you blow my mind just now with that big move.

  • Defiantly getting PS+ membership now. Its like killing 2 birds with one stone. I get PSVita games and PS3 which in itself is freaking awesome!

  • Man i really want a vita i even have the money for it but there are things that hold me back…

-No integrated memory (at least 4GB) -At&t only 3G service -expensive memory cards -prices on digital games (i want to go digital)

-most of all the fear of a better bundle appearing…

My dream vita bundle: Vita with Wifi / 3G (4G), 32GB & UP memory card, a game, and limited time to use the 3G feature. that’s when i’ll purchase my vita but in the mean time i’ll purchase psp/vita games that are going on sale to prepare :)

  • I dont have ps+ yet, but my question is if i get PS +, a 3 month trial so to say, will i still have access to all the free games after the 3 months, or will it lock me out til i renew it?

  • SWEET ZOMBIE JESUS! This is INCREDIBLE! Bought my Vita a month ago and I am so happy right now! This is so much more than what I expected PS+ on Vita would be. At most, I was thinking a Vita game and a PSP/Mini/PS1 game… but THIS! This is just amazing! Now I just have to get a bigger memory card (at least I don’t have to spend $ on the games anymore.)!

  • Hey, @264 Illumina, I think your choice is rather noble but don’t expect most people to value principles. If you want to buy a game that’s on the IGC, just create another acct. I assume you already have since you don’t have a Plus sign on Illumina? Anyway, buy games via your second acct, then switch to your real acct so you can continue to earn trophies. All you need is a different email address & that’s easy to get.

  • @279

Ah, you’re right. I guess I just (perhaps wrongly) assumed they’d have been compensated the similarly.

Anyway, I’m not denying that PS+ is a fantastic, and my gripe wasn’t that developers/publishers aren’t getting adequate compensation for participating in the program because to be honest I have no idea. I just want the option to buy a game being provided to PS+ members for free if I want to. In the end, the primary reason I’d do so is to ensure I always have access to it. The developer getting more cash flow in the process is just a nice bonus.

  • Will the wireless transfer between Vita and computers work on Macs or is it only for PC?

  • Great job sony, I always liked PS Plus, and now I have reason to like it any more, You have always done a great job, keep it up! :), and thanks for being so awesome :)

  • @296

Hey, that’s a pretty good idea for a work around! I wonder how that would work on a Vita, I heard rumors that you can only have one account per Vita or something like that. Anyone have experience with multiple accounts (same region or not) on the Vita?
