Jetpack Joyride for PS3 PSP PS Vita (Minis)Jetpack Joyride for PS3 PSP PS Vita (Minis)

Hi there! Alexey Menshikov of Beatshapers and I are happy that one of the biggest names in mobile gaming – Jetpack Joyride — is coming to PSN in North America this week for $3.99. With over 35 million downloads around the world so far, millions more can now suit up as Barry Steakfries and join in the high-flying phenomenon.

Down on his luck as a struggling gramophone salesman, Barry comes across the “secret” laboratory of Legitimate Research, a corporation dedicated to developing crazy new technologies. Seizing the chance to become a hero, Barry begins his ride after commandeering a jetpack and making good his escape. That’s where you’ll jump in and guide his adventure with accessible one-button gameplay.

Along the way, you must avoid lasers, missiles and electro zappers, all the while grabbing coins and trying out even more ridiculous vehicles – Lil’ Stomper, Profit Bird and the robot dragon himself, Mr. Cuddles!

The game features a robust Stash system, where everyone can upgrade their gear, change the suite, buy some gadgets and utilities or track their progress of unlocking 34 in-game achievements. You’ll grab one of 12 jetpacks, including the classic Machine Gun Jetpack or the colorful Rainbow, suit up in a vast wardrobe of 12+ unique costumes and make sure Barry’s best friend Flash comes along for the ride!

You can purchase Gadgets from Stash with coins you’ll collect as you play, and this Minis version features 16 various Gadgets organized into a tier system, with a particular number of purchases required to unlock the next level. You able equip only two of them for any run but proper gadgets pairing gives an extra reward, depends on its functional: from precious extra meters to slide (Freeze-o-matic), bounce (Insta-Ball) to super maneuverability (Gravity Belt and Air Barry), from Coin Magnet which attracts coins to Free Ride, a free Vehicle ride at the next your escape.

This new Minis version comes with a free unlocked Sansei look and Traditional Jetpack, with free activated Head Start and Quick Revive and Final Blast utilities available for single use with every new save data created.

The teams at Halfbrick and Beatshapers hope you enjoy it!

  • Don’t really like this game but everybody else does and who am I to tell what people can’t play. Long Live Play!! :)

  • Ok lets get the ball rolling on the vita update guys…..I swear you all need some motivated punctual veterans there to kick off the morning events… Or at least a night crew LOL…Dont you all have the memo… GAMERS DONT REALLY SLEEP ON MAJOR LAUNCH NIGHTS!

  • I have the game on my Android phone, one of the greatest mobile game I own. However, I don’t understand why the price went from free on Android to $4 on PSN. Sure, that’s not much, but is still way more expensive than getting the same game on other platforms. I’ll just stick to the phone version and hope that it’s added as a free PS Plus game in the future. But if the price doesn’t bother you, I definitely recommend picking it up.

  • Capice2003 is right (hardcore gamers) or the majority of gamers that visit the blog dont really sleep on major launch nights so how about you guys update the vita store and give us the Instant Game Collection now!!! man i wanted Sorcery to be free on playstation plus, i know it will come but i will support the developers today. Bring Motorstorm Apocalypse, Resistance 3 and even Killzone 3 to plus, thank you.

oh and i have a feeling that the big game will be either Uncharted 3 or God of War 3

  • Okay, come on…this game is ONE DOLLAR on every smartphone known to man at this point. Why the hell do PlayStation owners need to get hosed here? It’s cool that one purchase puts it on my PS3 and my Vita, but it’s a one button input game…I don’t need to pay $4 for it.

This should’ve been a PSM release for $0.99 like it is on every other platform. If Sony wants to compete with casual games, they might start by NOT bringing casual games to their platforms at a 300% markup.

    Ugh.

  • @6 one dollar? why i have friends with android phones or ipods and they have this game for free?

  • Will the Vita version have touch controls?

  • Great addition, but like kilburni86 said, this should have been a PS Mobile game.

No offense, but having two separate categories (PS minis and PS Mobile) for similar games confuses the consumer.

  • So the iOS version is 99 cents…

    Android version is Free…

And the PSN version will be $3.99? And on top of that, probably never get one single update.

I don’t understand the massive price difference.

  • Will get this. Thanks!

  • This is free on iOS, free on Android, and $3.99 on PSN.

    Hmmm…PASS.

  • Got this game free on my early Gen iPod Touch.

It is a fun little game, but with nothing really added for the PS version, i don’t see how $4 is reasonable.

oh well, guess you can’t blame them for trying to make some money.

At least it is not Angry Birds for $40!

  • This is a fantastic game. If I didn’t already own it on my iPhone and Windows 8 then I would definitely pick it up.

  • I like it on the iPad
and I like it on the vita mor +++

  • I would rather it be Vita native. Have no interest in Mini versions of mobile games.

@9: It’s as easy as 1, 2, PSP. Mobile is for Vita and Android. Mini has to deal with the PSP harware, and PS Vita and PS3 can play them too. Not hard at all.

  • Jetpack is a GREAT game but… 4 dollars? Really?
I don’t get this sony.. you would make way more money if you did exactly how smartphones do: “The game is free. Now, do you want to buy some coins?”
Do that, its a profit deal! (Mr. Patcher would agree)

  • I’m not big on mobile games so this is the first time I’ve heard of it. I’m going to go ahead and buy it.

  • @Alexey Menshikov

It was a comment directed to Sony more than you and Halfbrick. I’ve played tons of hours of your iOS version and loved it. I understand the reasoning for releasing it as a mini.

    Thanks for the reply.

  • I have this on my phone, and it is good to see it here! I loved that game XD! I’m level 40 only :P…But this were amazing news! Plants vs zombies, angry birds, now Jetpack Joyride?? PlayStation Is getting in a mobile style XD!

  • I feel like that is too high of a price for this game. This should be priced similar to the donate for android.

I say this because this is double the price.

  • I was excited to see this game coming to PSN until I saw it’s a MINI. :(
Even though I only paid a buck for this on iOS (in beautiful Retina HD) I was willing to pay another $4 since its a great game, but MINI is a terrible format IMO.

    No High Def graphics
    No Trophy support
    No dual analog stick support
    No leader board support (iirc)

I know they, for lack of a better expression, dumbed it down for use on a PSP, but they shouldn’t need to do that anymore. Make it HD, add trophy support for Vita and PS3 and do away with MINI’s!

  • @Everyone, it’s $4 on PSN because Sony is actively resisting the FTP market.

In all likelyhood the devs would release it for free/ 99 cents with IAP’s if Sony would let them.

  • This game is seems kind of gutted. Making it a mini takes away many of the hooks.

  • Can you comment on the audio quality? I gladly re-bought Canabalt and Pix’n Love Rush as minis so I could get physical controls, but was really disappointed with the quality of their audio assets.

If it’s 160kbit/sec AAC, that’s not a deal-breaker for me since the physical controls will be totally great :)

Looking forward to more iOS ports, but I would personally favor PSM since the native resolution and color depth is so much better. I’ve only played a few minis on my PS3 — namely Where Is My Heart? — because the art style really stood up on the big screen. Most of these games’ art does not hold up on the big screen, so sticking with PSM (and the better video/audio/control/touch capabilities) is what I prefer as a consumer.

Thanks for the post and for answering questions! :)

  • Great game. I’m just wondering why it’s free in the Windows and Android store and $4 here….kinda makes it hard to buy when I can get it free somewhere else. That being said, it’s nice to see quality games coming to the vita

  • I just wish Sony would do away with MINI’s. They don’t really offer anything worthwile and a lot of great games (like this) are a waste without trophies, HD visuals, online, and dual analog.

Just make these games PS3/Vita Cross Compatibles and keep the price at $4.

  • LOL whoever buys this is a complete moron, it’s free everywhere else. One very likely reason to why they’re charging for this and why they’re charging such an enormous mark up is because they know gamers are one of the dumbest consumers, if not the dumbest. Don’t buy this! The reason why all these negative things are in video games is because you keep purchasing products with these greedy and anti-consumer practices.

On PlayStation Mobile and PlayStation Minis, I think Sony should merge them and only have one, with all the PlayStation Network features as possible, be on all PlayStation products, “cross buy/save” as bare minimum and prices matching or beating the competition. That’s the only way I’ll purchase any.

  • NOT AVAILABLE ON VITA TODAY!?

WTF?? I need my Barry Steakfries fix. Age of Zombies is one of my favorite games ever.

  • @28: They won’t, because Minis have to work on the PSP. Mobile works on Android and Vita. Eventually Minis will go away.

Mobile needs cross saves though to really adhere to it’s idea. More so than other PS features like trophies.

@23: Yeah, DCU Online, Free Realms, Dust 514, Treausres of Montezuma Blitz, Frobisher Says!, the list goes on and on of proof that Sony is actively resisting the FTP market! :D *eye roll*

  • I have to post the comment that Jetpack Joyride minis is a first platform where physical buttons used to control Barry, and we think are way more responsive than touch screen.

Also, a funny fact – our play tests shown that it is easier to play on PS3 than on PSP, perhaps because of screen size. People who played on PS3 fly to longer distances.

@30 – we have 2 free2play games in production now on PS Vita. Just a note.

  • @People talking about price.

It is a fantastic game. Ask yourself: do you want more games on Vita or not? If you like the game support the developer and buy the game. This game is worth much more than what’s being asked for it.

  • is it free

  • im pretty excited and at the same time not so excited for the 4 dollar deal although you guys at beatshapers make preety fine addictive games. needless to say if i didnt have a smartphone i would get this in desparity. even if i did pick it up i couldnt because i search around and cant find a release date of if it is already released i cant find it.

  • Still can’t find it on Vita. On PS3 it says it’s only for PS3 and PSP. Whats going on?
