Gran Turismo 5 Exclusive: Drive the Corvette C7 Test Prototype

For weeks now, members of GTplanet and PlayStation.Blog have been speculating about the mysterious appearance of a camouflaged Corvette C7 appearing in Gran Turismo 5‘s screen saver.

Well, the rumors are true – officially announced today at the LA Auto Show, Chevrolet and Polyphony Digital have been working very closely for months in developing an exclusive first-hand driving experience by offering a camouflaged Corvette C7 Test Prototype in Gran Turismo 5. The DLC is now available for free through PlayStation Store.

With spy photos valued at an estimated $100,000, Chevrolet has gone to extreme measures to disguise the test car. In fact, a designated Corvette design team was tasked with developing custom camouflage to conceal the new design elements. The concealed test prototype continues to undergo extensive performance and durability testing in preparation for final production. Millions of hours will be accumulated through thousands of rigorous performance trials before the car is released later in 2013.

Until now, only a handful of the most skilled drivers on the Corvette team have been authorized to push the test prototype to the limits on the most challenging tracks in the world, including the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife – one of the core testing grounds for C7’s driving dynamics.

Now you can also be part of that exclusive experience by heading over to PlayStation Store and downloading the exclusive Corvette C7 Test Prototype, then taking it to the track in Gran Turismo 5. Be sure to share your best lap time on the Nurburgring Nordschleife through Corvette’s Facebook page.

Chevrolet will introduce the 2014 Corvette on Sunday, January 13th, 2013. For more information and video content, check out www.one13thirteen.com. Enthusiasts can join the conversation about the next-generation Corvette and keep track of new announcements on Facebook and Twitter.

  • Awesome, can’t wait for Spec 3 update!

  • That is fantastic! We know that you guys are working on creating Gran Turismo 6 for next generation console (Playstation 4???).

In the meantime, can we expect more DLCs coming to Gran Turismo 5 anytime soon? I sincerely hope so! Thank you guys for making this fantastic game for all us to play and the enjoy it!

  • I don’t believe GT6 will come out for PS4, cuz 70 millions PS3 owner available. Please PD do it for PS3. Pd working on gt6 since 2010.

  • Awesome! Just downloaded it and about to take it for a spin.

  • I smell a mid engine!

  • Can we get Gran Turismo 5 on PSN?

  • Where can i download it? Can’t find in the shop. Or is it not available in some regions?

  • @ LovesJapanManga

I was hoping they were working on GT 8 for PlayStation 6

  • Great… love GT5

  • I think it’s awesome that you guys are still supporting this game and continuously adding new stuff, and it’s great that your working on the next one, but how about you guys take some time and make a GT game for the PS Vita. If you haven’t noticed Sony needs to move a lot more of these babies, and I think a Grand Turismo Vita game would help just a little, and maybe sites like IGN would stop crapping all over Vita.

  • I already have some photos of this new baby.
Thanks for effort and for the continuous work on Gran Turismo. I really love this kind of things…

By the way Ken, two things:

1 – You need to upload the 2 new videos of this year’s 24h Nurburgring to Gran Turismo TV with subtitles, english and spanish.
    2 – Spec III.

Again, thanks for your continuous work on the game.

  • @ LovesJapanManga

I would like some more DLC as well. Could we get some new, recently released cars (such as the new BMW M5, Aston Martin Vanquish, or Ferrari F12). I’m pretty sure Forza has the M5 and F12, it’d be nice to see those in GT5. I know it’s a complaint as old as time, but I’d really like to see more cars I actually want rather than little Japanese econo-boxes. Perhaps GT6 will solve that issue…

Regardless, thanks for the C7! Hope to see a production model added to GT5 soon!

  • WOW!! This is a really nice surprise. Super-up-to-date content to the point that us GT5 gamers are basically getting to fully test-drive the new Corvette before it’s even released. I downloaded it as soon as I heard, booted up the game but the ‘vette wasn’t in the install list. Did the DLC come out before an update or something? I’m gonna redownload and restart my PS3 and try again now.

As for GT6, I agree with #3. I really hope GT6 is a PS3 game (and hey, maybe an upgraded PS4 version if they want), but the install base of PS3 is just TOO huge to pass up.

But more importantly imo, is that Yamauchi-san should really show what he can do with the PS3 hardware before moving on to PS4. Almost a redemption even though GT5 was great. But GT5 came out late 2010 due to belated polishing, and it’s still being polished. But GT5 was really one of the first PS3 games ever in development, and it’s graphics engine was finalized YEARS before devs like Guerilla, ND, Insomniac, QD and Santa Monica unlocked PS3 secrets. All those graphical advancments around GT5’s content plus MANY more tracks and features would be amazing.

That is all IF they could get it out by next Fall the latest.

  • Just drove the C7 prototype. I can’t wait till the new Corvette C7 is unveiled next year.

  • playstation all stars battle royal is where its at add my psn if you have the game i need the friendly competition trophy on it

  • i just downloadied the DLC but i can’t find the c7 anywhere, what am i missing?

  • Awesome free DLC, thanks. Now you need to make a Gran Turismo for the PlayStation Vita. Please……

  • awesome, the vette is my fav american car :)
can we have the SRT viper too please

  • Hey guys somebody save me!
How can i delete items from my psn shopping cart or clean up all the list???
    Tried everything i think…
Even when i log out and come back the list is still the same…

  • When we see Porsche On GT5, SO I HOPE WE SEE ON Spec 3 update!

  • Alex, when u hghlight the product in the shopping cart to the left in the highlighted box you’ll see an “x”, highlight that and x it out.

  • Can you guys release some exotic cars as dlc tired of the the useless japanese cars give us some horsepower beasts!!

  • SWEET!!! Still my favorite driving game!!! Please offer the Sebastian Vettel Red Bull Prototype for free again. My original Fat PS3 died and I lost it when that happened. I have the matte black prototype, but really want the Red Bull colors again. Please, please, please :D

  • @polo155 Thanks bro! Worked!

  • so when this car is reveled in January….will the cover come off?

  • i’d love to download it but my PS3 is having issues with PSN.. don’t know what’s up with that.. tried playing GT5 as well and it was insufferably slow… any thoughts, please post… and no, its not my internet, that works just fine….

  • You know…

In the old Store, I would have found this WITHOUT the need to post it to the Blog.

  • More GT5 content, please. I am craving more new content.
