November 2012 PSN Top Sellers: The Walking Dead Goes Out With A Bang

Welcome to this month’s PSN Top Sellers, where we look at what digital content sold most in the past month.

This November saw the release of the fifth and final episode of The Walking Dead — No Time Left. If you’ve been following these posts, it should come as no surprise that it took the top spot for November, sending off the first season of the Walking Dead game in fine style. Huge congrats go to the entire team at Telltale Games for releasing one of the finest gaming experiences of the year! (Notice how all five episodes are represented on the list, wow!)

While the sensational story-telling in The Walking Dead dominated the charts, you’ll also find strong debuts from hits like Assassin’s Creed III, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, and Okami HD. We also see great performances from Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified, Persona 4 Golden, and Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation.

Take a look at the full lists and let us know your thoughts and predictions in the comments!

  • ok…So I guess AllStars didnt sell too much. Kinda dissapointed but expected that Declasified would be the top Vita game….
In the PSP section it just goes to show that NBA2K13 shudve been on Vita as well and that GTA wud be big on Vita.

Okami HD seems to have done better than I thought. Good for The Walking Dead I guess but that was expected

  • Absolutely terrifying that people are buying Black Ops Declassified digitally. There’s no digital discount, no way to re-assign the title to another user (i.e. sell your copy), and it’s the same price as retail without the added benefit of a free downloadable PSP game. Overall, there’s literally no benefit to owning it digitally except not having to switch out cartridges every now and then. Not to mention by all critical accounts, the game’s trash!

That having been said…glad to see All-Stars crack the top-5 with just 10 days on the store in November. NFSMW is also quite worthy!

  • i was expecting Persona 4 to be hotter than third place.

I personally do not like Persona 4 as much as i thought i would. Nothing wrong with the game, but Persona 3 hooked me more than 4, maybe it is because Persona 3 was my first Persona game and P4 i very similar to P3P

  • Wow, Journey’s still going pretty strong!

  • Ouch hate to see that declassified was top of the list. I don’t own a vita but I know that game is garbage, I feel for everyone who payed for it.

  • When are you gonna start adding non game apps for PS3 and PSV? Still waiting on crackle and hulu+ for vita.

  • Nice to see The Walking Dead all over the list.Great game.

  • Has Velocity ever been on the top Minis list? It should be number 1 every month. Where Is My Heart? should be on that list somewhere too.

  • I don’t understand why people download full games, just buy the physical copy from a store, that way you have something material with your money.

  • @cobrafang I find it more practical, it´s easier to have access to the game, don´t occupy space and dont get scratched or damaged.

I rather have my collection digital than physical. Although I know and understand that doesn’t work for everybody.

  • Hi, Morgan, re: The Walking Dead, that was me. I finally tried the free episodes because everyone said it was great and they were right. So I immediately bought episodes 3 through 5. No spoilers, but it was devastating & I look forward to subscribing to series 2!

I’m happy Okami did well. I’m playing that right now & I really love it.

My copies of AC3 Liberation & Persona 4 are retail bundles so didn’t contribute to this list.

  • wish journey was 10 instead of 15 $ . not a bad game i just personaly diddnt feel what everybody else felt. well atleast i realy enjoy the soundtrack on it. couldnt wait to reach the end, the sand itself was beautiful to look at. i give it that atleast.

  • Can’t believe Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified is even on the list!

Persona 4 should be tops #1 for anyone with a Vita! :)

  • Nice to see Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified selling well.

  • Interesting. PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale number 5. EU doesn’t even have it on the top 10

  • It’s good to see that lots of people are buying so many good games. I am still surprised that Legend of Dragoon is still in the top 5 of the PSone classic list. My most fav. game ever. :)

  • I’m glad that every episode of Walking Dead is on the list. It truly was an experience to play through and I can’t wait for season 2. I’m also surprised to see Final Fantasy 7 is still number 1 on the PS1 list. I figured everyone would have owned it already. It is a good game.

  • Walking dead yay!!!! Definitely a nomination for my personal game of the year. I’ll admit it was probably the closest I ever came to crying from a video game, so it also gets best story, and the most memorable characters award from me.
Good to see AC Liberation, Ragnarok, need for speed, and all stars in the list as well.

  • Can we get playstation stereo headset support in PS2 Classics? I like to game at night and not disturb any body but I can’t really play Person 3 or Odin Sphere since the headset just doesn’t work in them. It’s really annoying that it works in every other game from the PSN store but PS2 Classics.

  • @Morgan,

Let us be honest here, it has little to do with all those wonderful awards, it’s the fact that Sid finally finished the game and the word has spread.

  • Lovedd the walking dead episode one. looks like il have to buy the rest of the episodes this weekend.

  • Any chance we can get a top 5 selling games list for PlayStation Mobile titles?

  • @#2, you do know that with every digital purchase you can copy the Vita game to 2 seperate Vitas right ? so its like getting 2 copies of the game. I have myself, and 2 kids that both have psp’s, so digital purchaces work well for me.I also hate walking around with cartridges, so again, digital works well for me.

  • @9, same as above. Playstation 3 digital also gives you the ability to transfer the game to 3 ps3’s (Used to be 4 ps3’s I think)…..allot of people have multiple ps3’s. sometimes in different homes. you can just download the same game on all 3 ps3’s and you only pay for it once.

  • Those PASBR are only a few days worth of sales. Lets wait till next month when a whole month of saler are available.

  • @Morgan

Did you count the FREE cross-buy downloads of Allstars for Vita as actual sales?

    • No, the list only counts specific sales of the product by console. So a PS3 purchase for PSABR would not automatically give a tally in the PS Vita section for PSABR.

  • @23 Yes, I know that’s possible…but since Vitas have to be linked to only one PSN account, the game can’t be played online on both systems at the same time. Also, because of trophies and online gaming, I don’t think that many people are in your exact situation, although I think it’s cool and it works that you’re able to share games with your kids that way.

  • PlayStation All-Stars already #5 after only a week of sales? That’s what I’m talking about! Just finally got my pre-ordered copy today! Can’t wait to rip into it soon.

  • Not sure about everyone but I spent 600 dollars on my ps3 which no longer has a working disc drive so digital is perfect for me. I still get brand new games without having to go out and spend another 200 dollars for a new machine.I’m gonna get my 600 dollars worth out of it. Just how i feel.

  • if Capcom plan to release a remake of Re2 and you guys put it on the store, Im sure as hell it would be in the first place lol.

  • If Fighting Vipers doesn’t make it onto the PS3 list this month I’ll be a sad panda. :(

  • The head title should also be “PS + users go out with a bang” because of the greatly disappointing garbage we’ve been offered over the weeks. Sayonara.

  • Walking Dead is so boring…

  • Some of these PS3 and PSN top sellers would make great plus additions if they were added to the collection. But I doubt it would happen.

  • For the Persona4 lovers wondering why its not that high on this list, and then others, don’t forget that their is still retail unaccounted for here, I believe I would love to see a total tally of all recent titles, downloadable and retail, together.
    Also,
    Did you guys abandon PS.Blog.Share?
Since I have not seem my last three submissions nor any updates for a while, here are some new ones.
Please look into supporting more than 100 icons on the PS Vita, unless you want people to just stop buying more PS Vita games, since backing up takes time and battery away when you could be playing that shiny new game.
Can the people that bought the retail version of a game be allowed to rate, I don’t see how someone can honestly get a good look at a review of a decent game if there is missing tally.
LBP:K should be a cross buy, like R&C will be once the PS VIta version is out.
Also, this is for the PR team in America:
People love updates, keep them updated by implementing a status page that tracks things like game bug fixes, DLC releases, System Updates, etc.
You get the idea. The more informed your customers are, the more they will come back for.
Sony, you have loyal customer, don’t turn them away.

  • @SoraNeroSerrah My $400 PS3 (from 2008) is the exact opposite, suddenly it’s internet/network connection or something got messed up and I could no get any type of internet connection. So it was retail only for me (until I got my black friday PS3 bundle :) )

@avluis I believe the 100 icon limit idea has already been submitted by someone else. I agree with your retail buyers rating idea.

  • Has there been any though to making a section of the store or blog easily accessable that shows the best sellers for previous months? Or the best seller over the past 3 months, 6 months etc.. (yes I know i can look up previous, ‘this months top 20’ posts)

Now that the store only displays the top ten instead of the 20 or so we used to see, the majority of games, at least on the PS3 side will be the new releases for that month. (classics will likely always be dominated by FF)

I’m more interested in seeing how well things are selling that aren’t blockbuster new releases (AC 3 for example, was gonna sell very well without a doubt).

I’m also interested in which games have longevity with good sales, often an indicator of a quality game.

Basically now that the store only displays about half the top sellers it use to, it would be nice to have some way to see more information on the top sellers (especially over a longer period of time) so I can be persuaded by such information to buy/try more games.

  • All about Okami. Played it across all the platforms it’s hit, and it never gets old. This new one for the PS3 is hands down, the best HD edition of any game I’ve played.

  • Would really like to know the over all sales of Vita games. Would also Like to see the units sold.

  • @27, dont know where your going with that, but you can play online on both Vita’s with only 1 copy. you just have to buy an online pass for the second game (if the game requires an online pass), plus trophies are all seperate on both vita’s. Only thing that is locked to the Vita is your user online name. 2 Vitas with 2 different user names can play the same digital copy of the game. Same with ps3 games. I buy all my psn titles on my ps3 here in the us and my family in the west Indies downloads all the games and playes them.

  • @ onslaughtree does that require the other person to activate their system? I’m not sure but I believe that if they do, they can’t play games they downloaded using their own account.

  • Hey Morgan! the voucher 60/10 when?

  • Activating your Vita or Ps3 system and downloadable games dont really matter.
Any game bought on your ps3 weather its psp/mini/vita/psn/ps3 full game , you can go into your manage system screen and activate up to 2 psp’s or 2 vitas, or 1 psp & 1 vita. and from that, you can transfer all your games bought on the ps3 over to those 2 psp’s or Vitas. .
with the ps3, you have to create a sub account , sign into the second ps3 with your master account info and then download all your ps3 games to the 2nd ps3. then sign back in with the sub account and you will have access to all the games.
what the vita does is lock your psn account to the Vita memory card. you cannot sign into someone elses Vita with your psn account. but any vita/psp game bought on your ps3 can be played on 2 seperate Vitas/psp.

  • Yea Buddy The Walking Dead Awesome Show And AMAZING GAME Thank U TellTale Games And AMC And Also Thank U PlayStation For Giving Us The Chance To play This Game

  • Hey, @ 43, onslaughtree, you’re saying the Vita memory cards are locked to one PSN ID? Does that mean I could pop in a different, unused card & create a second PSN ID to buy games from the EU store & from then on just swap cards in & out on the same Vita?

  • And there we go PSX FF7 being top seller…again…
While this keep up Squarenix will never make a remake? XD

  • Can we get the actual number of units sold next to each or is there some weird legal issue with that?

  • Happy to see Sega’s classics doing well. “Nights” is great, I hope they bring out more Saturn games for PS3 and Vita.

Also, Final Fantasy VII is impressive. It is always there as a top selling game. They really should remake it.

  • @ 45…If you have 1 vita and want to use 2 different user psn accounts, you will have to swap out the vita memory cards and re-format the card every time you want to download data (games/music) etc to that Vita. But remember, you will also have to back up and sync your trophy data and games saves every time. Its a royal pain in the butt, but that for now is the only way that I have seen to use 1 vita with multiple accounts.

  • @lisatsunami no, what I think it is is that if you use a memory card with a specific vita (signed into one account), you can only use that same memory card with that same vita. Like you wouldn’t be able to put that memory card in your friends vita for example and access anything on it.

    Not 100% positive though
