We’d like to let all PlayStation fans know that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is coming to PlayStation Store as a ‘PS2 Classic’ in today’s update. That means you can revisit the cities of Los Santos, San Fierro and Las Venturas, as well as the surrounding countryside and mountains, exactly as they appeared on the PlayStation 2 back in 2004, on your PS3.
To help you prepare we’ve raided our archives for a video called ‘The Introduction’. This 20-minute prologue video highlights the action in the days before the story in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas begins. The Introduction is told from various characters’ viewpoints, which are intertwined together to reveal the network of organized crime forces operating throughout the state of San Andreas. Tension builds as threats are carried out, stakes are raised and communication breaks down. In Los Santos, a drive-by shooting in Grove Street Family’s territory ignites a series of events to be further explored in the game.

@53 simple, i have 13 $ in my wallet, to buy gta san andreas, i have to buy a 20 $ psn card, that is 32 $ in my country, plus takes like 2 days to get the card, so why would i want to waste that much money when i could buy the game if it was 10$ and have no problems at all and delays?
the difference is a lot if you live in a country where you have to pay a fortune to get cards.

Again, we see another case of GREEDY, OVER PRICED, RIPPING OFF THE CONSUMER AND ANTI CONSUMER practices. Why? because enough consumer are idiots and don’t care ignore the negatives done by companies and shockingly praise and still it/purchase it. And by doing that it tells companies enough consumers are idiots so they continue on doing these type of things and keep on seeing how far they can push and that’s why things keep getting worse.
Who ever buys this is a complete idiot. You can get a brand new, PHYSICAL version (which cost more to release) of GTA 3, GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas in the GTA: The Trilogy for PS2 for $20 which means you can get each game for around $6.50.
This is why Sony removed PS2 BC, to be GREEDY, RIPPING OFF THE CONSUMER AND ANTI CONSUMER by having the only way we can play PS2 games on our PS3 is if we REBUY the games we already paid for by “Collection” or “Classics.” And why hasn’t PS2 BC come back yet? because enough consumers are idiots, don’t do anything about the removal of PS2 BC, praise it and rebuy games they already paid for. For the idiots who think PS2 BC was removed to reduce costs, Sony THEMSELVES said that wasn’t the reason. The only other logical reason is above.
Sorry if that post may have sounded rude in some parts but I’m SO upset and LIVID about all the negatives, greedy, ripping off the consumer and anti consumer practices in video games today, and of all the dumb consumers who ignore them, praise them and support them which is the reason why things keep on getting worse.
I will gladly pay $15 dollars for this awesome game. Probably gonna download this tomorrow. I should have never gotten rid of my ps2 and all my games. Won’t do the same mistake with the ps3, I will always keep it.
Seriously, it’s only $5 more than any other PS2 Classic, and in my honest opinion, it’s well worth it. If $5 is really THAT big of an issue for you, then I guess you are better off finding a PS2 copy and a PS2, but I love the convenience of having my favorite GTA game on my PS3.

You do realize that the 60gb ps3s the ones that went for $600 back in 2006/7 had a full ps2 in the case along with the ps3 hardware. So thats an emotion engine chip and realty synthesizer chip along with the cell and the rsx… you think those chips are free and the manufacturing? It’s not. Of course it was to reduce costs. They then took out the EE chip on the next version and had to use software which caused more games to not play because it was emulated.
The ps3 can’t play ps2 games native without some recoding of each game or a “Wrapper class” to handle emulation. Even top of the line gaming pcs can’t handle emulating a ps2, even in 2012. They had strange hardware which makes it hard to emulate. No way in hell could backwards compatibiltiy be added unless it was in hardware which isn’t going to happen unless you want to buy a new ps3 at a $50 extra cost.
Even so, saying all that, i am not sticking up for the price of this. I would love to have this on my ps3. but i already rebought the steam GTA collection last summer for $5 Yeah… $5… And they are in HD (were since they came on pc when i bought them the first time)
I would love to play these games on my Vita though….. Make it happen and I will pay double.
Or hell make a VITA gTA game like you did on psp… It would move hardware like crazy… You guys still owe sony an exclusive… you promised AGENT back in 2008… and its 4 years later with no news… i call vaporware… It would be nice to have a native GTA game on the vita! Make it happen rockstar and sony!

Also, you really have to stop stating things you don’t know are facts as facts. PS2 BC was not the reason or even one of the reasons why the 20GB and 60GB PS3 cost what they did. Educate with yourself with facts and don’t ASSume, state things as facts that are actually facts.

I loved Vice City and San Andreas, but I absolutely could not stand GTA4. I felt like they removed way too many things from previous GTA games, and it just didn’t feel as fun as it used to be.
They should just do a massive, graphical overhaul with San Andreas for current consoles. I’d buy it again.

I think everyone that is complaining about the cost is being ridiculous. A retail copy new at GameStop is 19.99 and used is going for around the same price. On Amazon the game goes for 24.99 to 29.99 brand new. Yes, a used copy is cheaper, but there is a chance of getting it and not working. On Steam and on Xbox, this is 14.99/1200 MSP.
Anyway, Thanks RockStar and Sony for bring this to the PSN store and hopefully we will see Vice City next, so I can complete my collection of Downloadable GTA games.
Also, please have GTA V downloadable on the PSN day one please.

for me its about graphics and function. without improved graphics and smooth frame rates i find little reason to rebuy san andreas. my ps2 still works and my old fat ps3 without the ps2 chip will play the game with some graphic improvement.
the lack of ps2 games in hd or improved graphic for the ps3 and the removal of ps2 game play is simple. gamers playing already purchased games or the good old games at low prices may not buy as many new 60 bucks games.
gta san andreas with improved graphics on the ps3 should be old news and not just dumped on the psn with original low def graphis in dec 2012 at any price.
hundreds of hours of game play and multiple play throughs is also another reason i will pass on gta san andreas on psn.

I’m with everyone else on this one unfortunatley. Since this game came out i’ve bought it for ps2 three times (because one copy was stolen and another lost) so I paid over $200nz on san andreas over a period of 4 years, take that for a contribution Rockstar! I would love to revisit San andreas all these years later but I just cant justify spending anymore of my hard earned money on it for my ps3 unless it’s either on sale or the same price as other ps2 classics not because I can’t afford it but because I dont think it is a fair price. It’s sad to see such a small thing affect a re release so badly and especially from Rockstar. I’m positive they would be making a hell of alot more sales at the usual price therefore making more money right? With the amount of negative feedback towards pricing you can only hope that someone with the authority to change things will be reading this. If not, then it will be a waiting game till GTAV is released. Can’t wait!!!

Okay so I just heard that San Andreas has been downloadable on xbox 360 for ages now? If that’s true then I will be extremely pissed and even more confused. San Andreas became the highest selling game on ps2 selling almost 20million copies and around 2million on xbox apparantly so how is it possible Rockstar would release for xbox first? I know, because they would have thought they squeezed as much profit outa ps users as possible that it made sense to bring it to xbox live. Then wait for people to ditch there ps2’s and then release it for psn, duhhh. That may not have been the plan but I bet it was along those lines. Have I only just realised how greedy these people are. It needs to be more about the gamers not just money money money. Where would you be without your gamers?

I love Rockstar but they really lost respect for this one. Knowing this games sales figures they thought they could easily take another $5 from each of us. Was not gonna hesitate to pick this up for $10 like all other PS2 classics, but now they can shove it. Have supported Rockstar since GTA III and they still want me to give more. Where’s the love for someone who’s purchased every GTA since III, with multiple copies of III, San Andreas, and has IV on every Platform with the Episodes? Yal are some jokes, it ain’t right.

I was going to buy it at 10$, but forget it for 15$, i prefer to just undust my PS2 and play San Andreas on it.
C’mon guys, this is arguably the greatest game of the series. I know the usual price is 10$ for an average PS2 classic, but this isn’t an average classic. It’s 5 more dollars. Blame it on the economy.Yet, It’s like trying to buy Super Smash Bros for gamecube at the same price as pikmin…. Yet, pikmin was a great game, but I digress.
I think this will be a two parter because they limit characters on here: I have played every GTA game through multiple times and these games hold my most memorable gaming moments of all time. However I do feel that your price tag is high for what you are offering. However I do not want a cheaper game, what I want is trophy support. I want HD as well, but that is second to trophies. I will actually go into the “why” behind that though instead of leaving this as an uninformative complaint that gets marked down.
PS3 has created a an almost Pavlovian response to that darn little *ding* sound when we get a trophy. My mouth may as well start watering as I cannot express how much that digital “good boy” makes me wag my tail. Also they created a level system with your user ID that makes me feel like my life has been turned into an actual RPG and I am leveling up in real life. Modern gamers needs now include trophies.
I work and have a family life, I do not have as much game time as some. Therefore I feel that my time playing games should not be wasted. Unfortunately PS3 has trained me to need trophies in order to feel like my time playing the game is important. Even if this game was $5 I would probably not play it for more than a couple hours because I would feel that I wasn’t “earning” anything by playing it. i know this is not the point of games and should not be, but that is how Sony has trained us. If you add trophies I would even pay $20 for this, but without them I will only think about playing it, but never actually do it. I hope this helps. I eagerly await GTA V. Thank you all for your hard work. Your games are amazing, the old ones just need a little facelift to keep us engaged in this generation.
F**k it!! I am the BIGGEST FAN of GTA SA & was really looking forward to buying the game on PS3, would have even bought it on the usual new game prices of around 50$!!! I am more then disappointed with R* for making it with the same old graphics as it used to be on PS2… this is a PS3 I have not a PS2 & my TV is a 55″ LED Samsung!! I NEED GTA SA HD!!!!! I was about to guy it & even changed my PSN comment to “GTS San Andreas PS3!!” but then I saw it was still in low quality graphics, please make a newer version where we can play it online too, if not @ least render it in HD!!

I know GTA V is coming & already pre-ordered but I would like to see you guys make the next one with Montréal city as the MAP! it has the main island & north & south shores… Montréal, QC Canada is actually the ORIGINAL SIN CITY… where are the old school Gangstas from Chicago, Boston & New York was coming to party during the prohibition of alcohol & we have the old port of MTL which is the French Connection (the gate from which all drugs from other continent was shipped in) the Map would be Amazing!! There are many gangs still to this day plus criminal bikers, Italian Mafia & Latin Cartels!
One more thing…
Make it that the main character is a Latino or if not make it that we can choose the race & make our own face like (sorry to mention them) in the games Saints Row… & a great online experience would be to make our own gangs & recruit members & +
