The Drop: Week of December 17th 2012 New Releases

In the dusty, undeveloped wastelands of Western Mudos, cantankerous townsfolk find their settlements besieged by belligerent outlaws. Along comes Stranger, a tall, dark and enigmatic bounty hunter with a critter-firing crossbow. First released in 2005, Stranger’s Wrath has been passionately upgraded in HD and is coming to the PS Vita this week.

Enjoy this week The Drop.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed

Sonic the Hedgehog and all the rest of SEGA’s great cast of characters hit the road again in this sequel to the hit racing game. Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed offers convertible vehicles, brand new characters, and killer All-Stars moves! Following on from the huge success of Sonic & SEGA All-Star’s Racing, the characters now have their own unique transforming vehicles designed to take advantage of the varying terrain. The line-up on the Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed grid sees SEGA favorites — including Sonic the Hedgehog, Dr Eggman and AiAi — return to battle against newcomers that include Gilius Thunderhead of Golden Axe and Vyse of Skies of Arcadia.

Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath

(PS Vita) — Oddworld just got … Stranger. In Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath, players step into the role of the Stranger, a rough and tumble bounty hunter who tracks down outlaws for moolah. Using a special weapons system that gives a whole new meaning to “live” ammo, players encounter deviant species and hostile challenges along the way. Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath combines first and third-person gameplay with familiar Oddworld elements and an all-new engine to deliver a unique gameplay experience.

Originally released in 2005, Stranger’s Wrath has been faithful reproduced on PlayStation Vita with a raft of enhancements, including: stunning HD visuals (with improved character models as well as new detail-enhancing effects such as normal mapping and self-shadowing,) re-mastered dialogue and additional bonus material.

Batman: Arkham Asylum — In Batman: Arkham Asylum the player assumes the role of Batman as he delivers The Joker to Arkham Asylum. There, the imprisoned super-villains have set a trap and an immersive combat gaming experience unfolds. With an original script penned by Emmy Award-winning Batman writer Paul Dini, the game brings the universe of DC Comics’ detective to life!

Batman: Arkham Asylum exposes players to a unique, dark and atmospheric adventure that takes them to the depths of Arkham Asylum — Gotham’s psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane. Gamers will move in the shadows, instigate fear amongst their enemies and confront The Joker and Gotham City’s most notorious villains who have taken over the asylum. Using a wide range of Batman’s gadgets and abilities, players will become the invisible predator and attempt to foil The Joker’s demented scheme.

Zombie Driver HD — Fight your way through the streets of a zombie infested city to save the survivors of a disastrous chemical accident that changed most of the city’s population into mindless brain hungry monsters. Time is your enemy and your car is your weapon as you race through the streets smashing everything on your way including fences, phone booths, street lamps and hordes of zombies. When the gruesomely mutated zombies become too much to handle, buy a new car or get more guns and upgrades installed. You can earn more money for finishing side quests, making kill combos and searching for hidden prizes. Game play is unrestricted and the player can freely roam through the dark streets, alleys and backyards searching for the best shortcuts or hidden power ups.

Karateka — Created on an Apple II by Jordan Mechner in his Yale dorm room, Karateka became a #1 bestseller and influenced a generation of gamers with its groundbreaking rotoscoped animation and cinematic cutscenes. 28 years later, Mechner returns to his indie roots with a new take on Karateka for today’s digital game platforms, featuring art by Jeff Matsuda (The Batman) and music by Grammy-winning composer Christopher Tin (Civilization IV).

Whether you are a nostalgic Karateka fan or new to the game, Karateka will charm you with its classic love story set in feudal Japan. Fight to save the lovely Mariko from the evil warlord Akuma and reunite her with her True Love!

Labyrinth Legends — Explore ancient tombs of lost civilizations in Labyrinth Legends. Evade concealed traps. Solve intuitive puzzles. Collect stars and gold, and discover hidden treasure, weapons, artifacts and more. But stay alert to battle foreboding mummies, zombies, ghouls and other monsters hidden in the shadows.

LEGO Lord of the Rings — Explore Middle-earth in an epic and thrilling LEGO video game adventure for the entire family! LEGO The Lord of the Rings brings to life the legendary fantasy saga by J.R.R. Tolkien. The game follows the original storylines of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Players can team up in pairs as adorable LEGO The Lord the Rings minifigures to experience countless dangers, solve riddles and battle formidable foes on their journey to Mount Doom.

Knytt Underground (PS Vita/PS3) — Knytt Underground, the sequel to the massively popular Knytt and Knytt Stories, is an exciting platform game offers gamers exploration in an infinitely breathtaking atmosphere.

Burn The Rope (PS Vita) — Burn the Rope is a unique game for the pyro in all of us. All you have to do is feed the fire! In this challenging game, you try to burn as much rope as you can in each level. There’s a catch! The fire only burns upwards, leaving you to tilt and turn your phone to keep your flame alive!

As you progress through the levels, you’ll encounter bugs crawling along the rope. Different bugs have different reactions to the flame. For example, the ant changes the color of the flame so you can burn different colored ropes, and the spider shoots out a web bridge so you can access parts of the level that you could not before.

Heavy Fire: Afghanistan — Heavy Fire: Afghanistan – The Chosen Few offers blisteringly fast-paced action set in a modern day Afghanistan

Total Recall (DVD / Unrated Director’s Cut Blu-ray) — Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he’s got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston), the leader of the free world – Quaid teams up with a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) to find the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy) and stop Cohaagen. The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.

Resident Evil Retribution (releases 12/21/12 on DVD / Blu-ray) — In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past where a “looper” – a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good…until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination. The film is written and directed by Rian Johnson and also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels.

  • When will the ability to access the PlayStation store via website coming to the US? And will PayPal be offered too? Thanks.

  • What? No KINGDOM HEARTS? Square Enix…you really dropped the ball with fan support. Digitally release BBS at least. What can i play on my vita but the excellent Gravity Rush and uncharted

  • Nothing for me in this drop. Waiting for Plus update.

  • @2 Ha, that’s funny, especially since Sony has no direct control over that at all in the slightest. Stop complaining, at least here anyways…

  • @2: Hate to say it, but I doubt SquareEnix cares much about the Vita at this point. Heck, the upgrade of the FFIII remake was put on PSP instead of Vita-specific due to the PSP outselling the Vita in Japan.

I love the Vita too, and would love to see them port the game over (as well as a few others, ie Star Ocean). Sadly, like Namco’s Tales games, doesn’t seem likely to happen in the future.

Though I would love to be suprised. :-)

  • Nothing for me either. Waiting to see what the PS Vita Plus update holds…

  • Will we see more old titles from 2006 to present make their way to PSN Store digitally? X360 has more digital titles than Sony does.

  • @3: Agreed. No new Instant Games for Vita this month, so hoping a nice suprise for Christmas countdown. Some exclusives maybe?

Also, just throwing out a few PSOne Classics for a Wish-List:

Mega Man Legends 1 or 2
    Mega Man X4/5
    Mega Man 8
    Mortal Kombat Trilogy or 4
Street Fighter Collection 1 or 2
    Blazing Dragons
    Suikoden 2
Star Ocean 2 (if not PSP, then the PSOne?)
    Breath of Fire 3
    Ridge Racer (original)
    Ace Combat (original)
    Colony Wars 1 – 3
Marvel vs Capcom (for Vita at least)

And SNK Neo-Geo requests (if they are still running with those:

    Real Bout Fatal Fury
    Fatal Fury 2
    Samurai Showdown 2 – 5
    Art of Fighting 2 – 3
    Last Blade 1 – 2

  • It’s like the same person comes on here every week and comments “what? no kingdom hearts?!?”

  • @7: True, though one could argue that they have been on the market longer and have more ties to the developers for the medium (XB 360 is a glorified PC when it comes down to it).

Though to be blunt, even Nintendo has improved ten fold on their digital support, easily catching up to what Sony has been offering. Look at the 3DS uploads of late: Crimson Shroud is actually giving Persona 4 Golden a run for my time with games right now.

  • hopefully batman: AA being on here means we will get it free for plus members

  • BTW Sony/SEGA, what is so special about the Sonic Racing Transformed packs that specify “Bonus Edition?” Haven’t seen a reason as to what is included to seperate it from normal. Bonus material not found in the digital?

  • This looks like a nice drop.
Stranger’s Wraith interests me most of all.
The more Vita games, the better.

Unfortunately, the chances of getting an answer to a question on “The Drop” is highly unlikely.
I suggest everyone planning on asking any questions to wait until the store update.
Unless the staff is feeling friendly today…just saying, no offense.

  • Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath Vita version for me this week.

  • @13: Good point. Keep forgetting they don’t often answer this thread set.

  • @1 Still in testing atm.

@3 Same. I did play Batman Arkham Asylum on disc with standard and GOTY. Neither saves are compatible.

@7 Like Burnout Revenge for example? It was very difficult getting those achievements. 360 has been around since 2005.

  • I brought far cry 3 on the psn store, everytime I play the game it crashes the ps3 in like 5 mins during gameplay, I downloaded the latest update and the problem still occurs it doesnt matter which mode I play single player, multiplayer, co-op same issue. I tthen deleted the game and re-installed it, tried playing without the update patch, same problem. I brought other games off the psn store like borderlands 2 crysis 2 and I never encountered this problem I play Battlefield 3 for long hours and it never crashes so it cant just be an overheating problem..

  • Its a good week for Vita. Will be Instant collection for Vita?. I cant wait for Sly and Ratchet. Just im only hope that Journey and Flower can be on the Psn for the Vita, and Shadows of Colussus and Ico. PLEASEEEEEEEEEE

  • Any chance we can see Brigandine: Legend of Forsena here in the states? It was one of mine, and my fathers, favorite strategy games.

  • @2 Consider that they might have licensing issues.

  • LOOKS LIKE A GOOD CHANCE THAT BATMAN WILL BE FREE TUES. PLZ TRY TO MAKE DEMON SOULS DOWNLOADABLE.

  • Labyrinth Legend: Looks like a lot of fun, and a perfect fit for a portable game, yet no Vita version. I understand that the Vita platform doesn’t yet have the user adoption necessary to get cross play or ports of every game technically possible for it to run, but that adoption isn’t going to grow without more than drizzle of games, albeit some real gems, that it is getting now :(

  • wonder if Batman: AA will be the standard or GOTY edition? And how much?

  • Would love if this Drop Posts stated prices next to the games.

  • When did movies start getting listed on the drop?

  • Weak drop, I want Dragon Quest 8 on PSN

  • Any Assassin’s Creed III fans?
I picked up my copy last week on sale.
$23 with my promo code for the black Friday Vita in Amazon.
The book is huge and $35!! Who would buy that….lol

  • @25 It’s probably because it’s a Sony-owned film.

Now as for legitimate comments, I never did finish Arkham Asylum so I’m actually kinda looking forward to picking this up. Maybe Oddworld too since I heard some good things about that.

  • Nothing new for me this week, but wasn’t SASRT due out for Vita in January? Other than that I will be waiting for tomorrow’s Plus post as well as discount announcements.

@25 Look at the box art…..then I think you’ll see why.

  • Also, I know DLC is never listed in Drops, but doesn’t the LBP2 Cross-Controller DLC come out Tuesday as well?

  • @Tjoeb123-YES IT DOES

  • Total Recall…lol

Why aren’t we getting a 12 deals of Christmas like Europe gets? The deals section on the US Store is a joke.

  • Can’t wait to see the uproar from subscribers if Batman: AA is free for +, while Eu gets Batman: AC… Personally I’m hoping for Stranger’s Wrath or Zombie Driver and a winter holiday sale with + discounts.

  • Tony Hawk Underground on PSN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Tony Hawk Underground 2 on PSN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nice update. PSVita update to allow folders please!

  • Tony Hawk American Wasteland (But not before Underground 1/2) on PSN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Still hoping for a Legend of Legaia drop. And hopefully some PS Plus discounts on the Sly and Ratchet collections.

  • will we ever see a steam like app for the pc to access the psn??

  • @32 The old one is better.

    @30 Yes.

@23 Might be both, but not sure. However, they do have the exclusive Play As The Joker DLC for both editions. The trophy list is shared between both BAA standard and goty, while saves games are not compatible with each other.

  • Looking at PS Store, seems they removed standard edition from it. But GOTY remains on the PS Store.

Play As The Joker DLC is a bit more challenging than playing as Batman. I am not sure if it’ll include the PS Home Batcave like the disc does.

  • I have a sneaky suspicion that either strangers wrath will be for plus or knytt underground markk my words people lol

  • WHen will the ability to once again view the ps store via ps vita remote-play be available.

  • @39 Look at #1 comment. Playstation Australia has the news about the store, but no word on US release.

  • looking fwd. to the Unfinished Swan & Sound Shapes demos …. any hope we’ll see a Christmas PSN sale ? *crosses fingers* happy ho ho to all !! :-)

  • So, the plot of Resident Evil: Retribution is identical to that of Looper? :-P

  • why sony??? where is the other lot of psp and ps1 games for vita in the store??? and the plus for vita??? WHERE??

  • i guess, sony is going to go the mobile way with games. Burn the rope? I wonder why Angry birds for vita hasn’t come out yet. Well i happy with most games. Sony if you’re going to come out with phone games keep em at a reasonable price.

  • “leaving you to tilt and turn your phone to keep your flame alive!”

    Ooops

  • @46 I guess so. lol They will fix the info soon.
