Happy Holidays from SuperBot Entertainment

Chan Park's Avatar + Posted by Chan Park on Dec 27, 2012 // President, SuperBot Entertainment

Hello everyone! I can’t believe the end of the year is here already. Needless to say, this was quite a momentous year for us at SuperBot with shipping our first title, Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, and announcing our game’s first DLC pack with incredible new characters Kat and Emmett, and a super awesome Heavenly Sword/Wipeout level.

We have been thrilled with all of the positive response the game has been getting, especially from the fans, as this love letter we call PlayStation All-Stars was ultimately crafted just for them. We are so proud that we are able to work on, and deliver, such a cool and long awaited title for you all.

As a special thank you to all of our supporters and fans of PlayStation, we wanted to send out our holiday card to wish you all a most wonderful Happy Holidays!

We look forward to bringing you more great content in the years to come, and continue the celebration of all of the incredible characters and worlds that are a part of the magical world of PlayStation.

With much holiday cheer,

I’m eagerly awaiting the release of the new characters. However PSASBR needs some more tuning, not in the nerfing department, but in the beefing up department. Big Daddy is easy to topple over in situations with characters like Kratos, Sack Boy, and Nathan Drake in a single match together. I find myself struggling to make my own stand as I have nothing with broad enough strokes or effective stopping power to get myself out of those situations.

While I like how All Stars trys to give each character its own strategies for success, some of those strategies are completely ineffective against 5 or 6 characters. Another artifact from traditional fighting games that doesn’t work Brawling Fighter like All Stars. Big Daddy is just one problem among many I’m sure a few people have some complaints as well, but it makes this game a bit inaccessible to people who are….well not me.

Also can we get some new modes? Maybe more options for match configurations?

I must say, All Stars is a pleasure to play with. I saved up since the beginning of November just to get this game. So far, it is so worth it. I really hope that Superbot plans to make more titles such as this. I look forward for 2013 and what it may bring!

Happy Holidays and best wishes to the SuperBot team!!

I must say I enjoy PSASBR thoroughly and can’t wait to get my hands on the new DLC!! Again, thanks for making an awesome game and wish you all the success in 2013!

P.S. I know Abe is most likely going to be the next DLC character, any news on a Mortal Kombat rep. (*hint* *nudge* Sub-Zero!! *wink* )

Oh and Can you guys call the “Retry”‘s routine in the pause menu when restarting a match instead of reloading the scene in the next patch. I don’t see why the player should be punished with Load times on Defeat if code already exists for restarting a match that takes less than a second.

Any new game modes planned like king of the hill or royal rumble? Plz say yes I platinumed this game in a week and one thing it lacks is depth the story mode was a chore but online is great exept everyone spams the same cheap attack over and over give us health bars or a damage couter so that way it will show how much damage u landed vs their cheap specials

maybe you guys can tell me why Japan gets no cross buy, and the two games come to more than 100 $. I just feel ripped off living out here. It is like sony japan or super bot, or whoever sets the prices thinks the internet does not exist and that people do not check prices online to see what is going on. I mean does sony think Japanese people are happy when they see the US get a deal like this while they have to fork out almost double the price. It just makes us feel cheapened as customers.

Finally got it for Christmas, love it. Only complaint is the rather thrown together arcade mode… wish there was more of a story, or a story at all.

Words cannot describe how much I want a crossover game with all the characters going on an adventure… Please, Sony, make that!

But yeah, as for this game, love it. The stages definetely feel more alive than the-game-that-shall-not-be-named. I’m hoping DLC and the (hopefully) inevitable sequel will add more content and fix stuff I am not as happy about. But eyah, thanks for the game, it IS awesome :D

Happy Holidays!

I won’t buy PS All-Stars Battle Royale until I see truly All-Stars in the game, and that includes Gabe Logan.

It’ll be a shame seeing how Sony used the character for 8 years, and other characters like Parappa and Fat Princess are not that used and are in the game!

Gabe Logan passed in every Sony console out there…PS1, PS2 and PSP. He deserves to be in the game as much as Kratos, Sly Cooper and Sweet Tooth.

Syphon Filter and Gabe Logan went on through PS1, PS2 and PSP, that are systems Sony doesn’t support anymore.

I’m a really big fan of the franchise and of the caracther itself, and i’ll be pissed if Sony doesn’t include him.

I guess Playstation All Stars Battle Royale is a tribute to characters that really defined a generation, a system. Gabe Logan made much sucess in the PS1 era, much more than Parappa. He continued in the PS2 and PSP, from 1999 to 2007, throught 6 great games.

Fat Princess has only 2 games out there and she is in the game. Why Gabe Logan with 6 games (still) aren’t?

I really like Kratos, Sly Cooper, Cole Macgrath, Nathan Drake and Jak & Daxter, but I’ll say it’s sad for the part of Sony to exclude Gabe Logan like this, like he never existed.

+ xThe1x on December 27th, 2012 at 11:10 am said:

Kratos and Dante need tuning. When EVERY game has at least one kratos/dante you know something is unbalanced. Radec needs his sniper nerfed to a minimum 25 AP. Run from one side of the stage to the other and spam it. not cool. Sackboy was the least of my PSAS concerns. Do me a fav! Thx happy holidays.

+ RockSauron on December 27th, 2012 at 11:21 am said:

@22

Seriously you didn’t understand? I recommend reading again my post.

I don’t call Gabe Logan a true All-Star more than Kratos, Sweet Tooth, Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper…

I call Gabe Logan a TRUE All-Star MUCH MORE than Fat Princess, Parappa, Big Daddy.

Did you understand now?

+ Ryumoau on December 27th, 2012 at 12:43 pm said:

If you guys make a sequel, could you please give us an option for traditional stock kills and out of platform kills? It gets really boring having to store up supers as the only means of finishing off enemies.

Also, please put more effort into the single player modes next time. The arcade/story mode was just flat out lazy. Worse than even the first Smash Bros on N64. There should have been an overarching storyline that explains why these characters are thrown into the same universe and forced to fight one another. Not just pointless rivalry fights that mean nothing after its done, because they go back to their main universe afterwards. :/

25

+ Ryumoau on December 27th, 2012 at 12:46 pm said:

Also, please don’t waste two slots on the same character next time. Evil and Good Cole do NOT play different enough to warrant them being seperate. You could have easily made a generic Cole with Good and Evil costumes. The 20 character roster was already pathetic, but wasting even one slot like that is sad.

I absolutely love PSASBR and made sure it was one of the first games I got for my Vita. I really don’t think the game gets enough credit from the gaming “press” for its cross-play feature and the fact that it’s exactly the same on a handheld as it is on a console. (Meanwhile, Nintendo fans are STILL waiting for that long-rumored 3DS version of Smash Bros, which is almost certain to be different from its console brethren.) Seriously, SuperBot, you guys did some great work on this one, and your love for all things Playstation shows.

I hope that the critiques that have been leveled against this title will encourage you guys to make part 2 an absolutely essential purchase for fans rather than to discourage you enough that you water down the title into something to please the critics.

Anyone who spends a lot of time with PSASBR knows how tight it is. I’m really stoked that this title stands apart from fighting games in the Capcom/SNK mold and that it also is a distinctive brawler with a style of its own: much more technical than the Smash Brothers series. The cast is great too for its variety.

I can’t wait to see what the DLC and the sequel bring to the table, You guys rock, Superbot!

By the way, for the single player component, I think three fighters have really nailed it:

Dissidia focused on building up a strong sense of character and let the personalities of the heroes and villains play off each other while adding in the excuse that they couldn’t remember much about their own worlds. This meant that the game didn’t have to focus as much on the backstory and could really let the characters clash in the cutscenes and rival battles.

Mortal Kombat has the best single-player story I’ve ever encountered in a 2D fighter. It really made you feel something for each of the characters, and it helped you to understand their motivations for fighting. It really enhanced the game and was preferable to the “arcade mode” mentality of beating the game with each character to see the unique ending.

Street Fighter Alpha 3 was actually a prequel to the core Street Fighter games, and it made the interesting choice of having each fighter go through a unique semi-canonical experience to help explain what happened to each of them in the continuity of the Street Fighter universe. The rivalries occurred mid-game and broke up the monotony, and the final two battles served the ultimate story of the characters.

PASBR is really an awesome game but seriously, single player arcade dissapoint a lot , it was promissed a history on each character that justify the rivalry of all stars but most of all were caused by silly questions and the boss too were expected other treatment, but since all focus were on multiplayer, this one still needs much more attention. It still have a lot of connection bugs that needs fixing.

And complaints about the characters will always be acceptable, since some all stars seems to be forgotten on playstation history, and some people complaints to have some new all stars, and for some “forgotten on history” I really wanted to see Aya Brea from Parasite Eve, it’s still a first party and a lot of fans would like too, but oh well…

Also, it would be awesome if there was a short cutscene for every level, not just one rival. The single player is the weak point in the game, but if it’s not to late I know everybody would LOVE and appreciate seeing Jak talk to Drake and all the other characters. Please don’t hold off any cool DLC for a sequel.

Stop comparing it and start loving it for what it brings to the table…the game delivers in almost every aspect of it, yeah sure lot of characters are missing for now, few characters are god tier, but the game got enough SOUL to keep it self alive, trust me well get new chars and balance patches soon, in the meantime show support to it, thats the only way youll get “your favorite character” on the game.

Happy holidays to you guys at superbot, we are all expecting great things from you in the near future . :)

Just saying, Nariko’s level 1 needs a larger blast area. It looks like it’ll hit and then…. it completely misses. The fact that it’s stationary makes it hard enough to hit with, let alone with that baby blast area. In regards to her level 2, it needs a slightly faster pivot speed so people don’t just camp next to it and roll every time she turns it and actually have to run away from it. As for her level 3…. eh, slightly longer duration would be nice due to some attacks taking forever just to kill 1 enemy, but not necessary (just wishful thinking on that one).

Nariko’s an epic character in an awesome game but…. her supers, sadly, come up rather short.

While Superbot (for obvious reasons) will never address it, word on the street is that Suckerpunch let them use Cole, but only if they had Evil & Good in the game, as it therefore represents their character/game.

Considering they intend to make DLC, it isn’t a bad tradeoff, having both Cole’s didn’t force them to cut someone else, and not having Cole would have been a glaring omission.

Merry Christmas and happy New Year to you too Superbot. Hope you all have a good one,

Speaking on PSASBR, there are some things I want to discuss like quantity and quality of items, boss fight and more but right now I want to discuss the roster.

Why is the game called “PlayStation” All Stars when there are games that are iconic or important to PlayStation that aren’t in the game or haven’t even been announced yet? besides all the third party games like Crash, Spyro, MGS (Snake obviously), Silent Hill for example, where are the first party game characters like Legend of Dragoon, Jumping Flash, Arc the Lad, Dark Cloud, Syphon Filter, Team Ico for example? and instead of games iconic to PlayStation we have non iconic to PS games like Bioshock, Rising, DmC and games like Fat Princess made it in before games that are more iconic to PS?
