Resident Evil Revelations Creeps to PS3 May 21 with New Features

Survival horror fans! I’m super excited today to announce that Resident Evil Revelations is heading to PS3 this May. I know a lot of you guys have been patiently waiting for this one so we’re happy to be bringing you the definitive Resident Evil Revelations experience along with some new extras. For those that haven’t heard of RE Revelations, it’s a little bit different than some of the other Resident Evil titles you may have heard of or played recently. Revelations harkens back to the classic “survival-horror” style gameplay where you’ll be exploring dark, creepy areas with little (and sometimes no) ammo to protect yourself from whatever might be lurking around the next corner.

The storyline focuses on Jill Valentine and her partner Parker Luciani as they track down the whereabouts of series standby Chris Redfield and his new partner Jessica Sherawat. Jill and Parker are investigating the last known coordinates of their comrades on an abandoned cruise ship known as the Queen Zenobia when they’re thrown into the middle of bio-terrorist conspiracy full of danger, mystery, and of course plenty of T-abyss mutants.

What’s new to the package? On top of the core campaign and co-op RAID mode experience we’re adding new character costumes and new playable characters and features to RAID mode, providing an even higher difficulty mode called “Infernal Mode” for RE ninjas, adding a new enemy to the mix and randomized positions for all enemies, reduced load times, more save slots, more weapon customization parts, more character skills, ResidentEvil.net integration/unlockables, completely reworked visuals, and of course lest we not forget the fact that you’ll get to play all of this in high definition in the comfort of your own home on PS3.

Resident Evil Revelations will be available May 21st in North America (May 24th for our Euro friends) on PS3 via retail disc or as a day-one digital download on PSN for $49.99. Hope you guys enjoy the game and be sure to hit me up on PSN for some RAID mode!

  • Why no Vita version, guys?

    • Hey Stargazr, when we were developing Revelations for new platforms we really wanted to hone in on the experience you get with a large format screen, surround sound, etc. This type of setup really helps players get sucked into the horror vibe and enjoy the game to its fullest extent.

  • GREAT! RE6 was an action filled flop :). Thanks capcom for ruining your own interesting franchise :P. i love noodles!

  • With a Platinum trophy this time, right?

  • And of course, Free For PlayStation Plus users right ..? :)
    PLEASE!

  • Great news, I already have the game, but will probably be picking it up again on my ps3 in the future. Also why no Vita version? It would be great if you guys offered a crossplay/crossbuy deal. If not crossbuy then at least crossplay so that Vita users can play with ps3 users in Raid mode.

  • Any plans to bring this tot he Vita?

  • Seriously, it’s a handheld developed horror game and it’s coming to the PS3 and all other consoles, but not the Vita. No more needs to be said. Capcom hates the Vita.Sony, please do something to help your beloved but dying handheld!!

  • “RE Revelations, it’s a little bit different than some of the other Resident Evil titles you may have heard of or played recently. Revelations harkens back to the classic “survival-horror”

A genre that should have never come out of. Sadly it turn into a mindless action game

  • Sounds awesome. Glad I waited on grabbing this on 3DS so I’d have access to a second analog stick.

On the other hand, with a $50 price tag, I’ll definitely be waiting until its both cheaper and used since its going to be available on disc, as well. That’s way too pricey for nearly a two year old port of a handheld $30 dollar game, so I’m definitely glad there’s the option to get it on disc and, possibly, on sale.

  • Bring it to Vita and I’ll pick it up.

  • I played and beat this on 3DS and it was great. Definitely worth getting. i’ll probably get it someday, but my slowly increasing backlog and the plethora of games I haven’t played yet coming out take priority. So are the graphics a complete transfer (e.g. RE6 graphics) or just smoothed over?

    • Revs is not just a ‘filter’ slapped on the previous version. Our team literally went in and re-textured (sometimes recreated in whole) the models used for this version so rest assured it will look fantastic

  • So, it was 1st developed on a handheld & now put on a console that has it’s own handheld as well ( in need of love ). Still sounds tempting, but rather pay my Dead Space 3 copy.

  • The rules say “don’t be a jerk”, but I must insist.

I hope Sony realizes how TERRIBLE it looks that every system on Earth is getting RE:Rev EXCEPT THE VITA.
RE:Rev is a game for a handheld, and yet somehow the Vita doesn’t get it?

I am an early adopter of the Vita, I love it, it’s far and away the most played thing I own (and I have a 360, 3DS, Wiil, and a PS3), but you can’t make even a diehard like me take you seriously when my toaster can play RE’Rev, but the Vita can’t. Even if you had to cut a check to Capcom for a million, surely that was better than the entire Earth seeing everyone but the the Vita get the game.

To the rest of you, I can’t recomend the game highly enough, it’s the best RE since 2, it was a ton of fun, and if you the series when it was survival horror instead of whatever they call it now (actiony-Micheal Bay-racially insensitive krap?), you will love it more than most.

  • I would have picked this up if it was also coming to the Vita. Seeing that price, when the 3DS version is 10 dollars less, makes me want to wait until a price drop.. Bring it to the Vita for 39.99 and I will get it day one.

  • No Vita version + no Cross Buy = no opportunity to make money.

  • Drop the price to 40 bucks and make it Cross-play with the Vita. Then you have a deal :)

  • RE: Revelations is a hand-held title. Why not port it to Vita? Why port it to PS3, WiiU, PC, 360?

  • I’m sure plenty of console only owners are pleased with this, but I’m not. I’ll continue saying this, but ignore the Vita and I’ll keep ignoring your game. The game is already on a portable and yet it’s coming to EVERYTHING but the other portable (Vita). Yeah, get that crap out of here.

  • One quick question: Will the controls be similar to Resident Evil 4 & 5 or it will be similar to Resident Evil 6?

  • Capcom trolling yet again with no support for psvita.

  • Just wanted to throw in with the others who are asking for a Vita port. I don’t care about Cross-Buy or Cross-Saves; I just hope Capcom will continue to support the Vita after excellent ports of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Street Fighter x Tekken. Bringing RE:R over would certainly help.

  • I see how it is though. Throw a portable game on the consoles so you can jack the price up. Can’t do that on the Vita can you so you’ll ignore it completely? Thanks Capcom, always trying to squeeze every single little penny out of everyone’s pockets.

  • Glald to see this game upgraded and coming to consoles, but I have to agree with many of the above comments “Where is the Vita version???”. The vita needs games and this game of this quality would sell, on a system starving for support. It would also sell some systems as well. Please Capcom support our beloved hand held. Thanks for reading.

  • @Sevyne- +1!

@Capcom-Not a smart decision. RE fans want to play on the Vita.

What’s your beef with it? Such a fine piece of technology needs to be treated as such.

    Y’all failed.

  • Will it have a versus mode too? i really enjoyed versus mode in RE5 heck i had that game for like 2-3 years because of versus mode ;)

    • No plans for a ‘Versus’ mode as of yet, but it does come with an upgraded version of RAID mode which I can’t wait to try out. RAID may be a slightly different beast than ‘Versus’, but I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised on how much fun you’ll have with it.

  • If this rep replies about lack of Vita support, I’ll be shocked.

  • Such a great game on the 3DS, can’t wait to get the console version, unlike most of the people on here, i plan on getting it for Wii U for my own reasons. Hopefully both the Wii U and PS3 versions has motion controls like the Chronicles games.

  • @27 It’d be more like RE4 on the Wii, which looked fun.

  • @13 Agreed. I think Capcom is more to blame here. There’s only so much Sony can do.

Capcom really gave the PSP lots of love. Two Mega Man games, a new Ghosts n Goblins, several arcade compilations, Power Stone, Darkstalkers and Street Fighter Alpha titles, and of course Monster Hunter…they gave the PSP lots of games, and they made millions of sales. Arguably, Capcom, Rockstar and Square-Enix were the third parties that kept the PSP going for so long.

The Vita got two delayed ports of games that had mixed reviews, and sold poorly, unsurprisingly. Now they’ve got cold feet about the Vita, and blame us.

Capcom is now focusing all their handheld love on Nintendo, with Street Fighter, a (cancelled) Mega Man, Monster Hunter and RE. The 3DS RE games sold poorly (not surprising, their fanbase is mostly on Playstation). Vita owners are begging for RE (which will likely fall on death ears. Remember RE Portable game for PSP that never came out? And then DS got a port of the original RE?).

Vita could use more third party support, and I’m sure RE would sell well on it. Not millions – though I doubt it’d sell millions on any single platform anyway. Capcom needs to support their gamers, or risk losing them.

  • This is a really good game. The new enemy is a plus, and randomized enemy positions sounds great. Pick this one up people: it’s a winner!

  • Guys, use your brains for a second. Instead of whining about the lack of a Vita version, stop and think about the situation. This game debuted on the Nintendo 3DS and was successful, so one can assume Nintendo agreed to allow this game on other platforms that don’t compete directly with the 3DS aka. Vita and Mobile Phones. I think Nintendo made a deal with Capcom to keep it’s handheld exclusivity to the 3DS to promote sales of that handheld. You guys have to start thinking of the games industry as a business, and most decisions are made based off of money and profit.

  • lol, poor Vita.

*goes back to playing his PS3*

  • and Ps Vita? :( Please Sony

  • any ps3 exclusives? since we are still kinda mad for re6 modes on the other console first than us?

  • I can’t believe that underpowered piece of crap Nintendo 3DS got this game but the Vita did not. What a waste.

  • oh yea any ps plus discount for this? i think it would be great market wise and business wise for this to happen.

  • Mike i have a question (more like a request i guess)

By ANY chance if a person has a save file for 5 & 6 can it add stages to RE:R as a bonus feature…

  • Portable game ported to every system but the Vita? Embarrassing…

  • how did this go from portable straight to console? put this on the vita! and why is the ps3 version not in 3D??

  • So glad it’s coming to PS3. Will be first daying this one, since I’ve heard such positive things. My first thought upon seeing this game for 3DS was, “Why are they wasting a Resident Evil title on a portable system?” But I had a feeling you wouldn’t just leave it there. Now, if you can only get the REmake and RE0 on the PSN, I’ll be happy.

As for the people complaining about no Vita version, well, there’s like 20 people who own the system and apparently, they’re all in this thread, upset. Who cares if it gets ported to Vita or not? Resident Evil was made to be played on a big screen tv.

  • @40 was it really made to be played on a big screen when its getting ported over from a small screen..just shut up already

  • 3 Questions:

    1. Will it be available in 3D for compatible TVs? That was the whole point of releasing this game back on the 3DS, no?

    2. Will there be Move support like RE5? RE6 without Move support was a mistake.

    3. Will there be Split-Screen Co-Op? From what you said about RAID mode, I don’t think so… which will be disappointing cause this game is scary, unlike RE4, RE5, RE6… do I need to go on?

    4. $49.90?! Seriously?!

    5. If the answers to first 3 questions are negative, then wouldn’t this title be better suited for the PS Vita instead of the PS3? A) It’s a port from another handheld machine, which means there will be no need to ‘re-master’ the visual. B) Using the Vita’s motion control to move the Scanner around to look for hidden stuff… is it just me or did someone in Capcom did not think things through before they started out on this project?

    • 1. Wasn’t necessarily the WHOLE point, but it’s hard to really get away without it on certain platforms. That being said the PS3 version will not support 3D unfortunately. We wanted all the new versions to be consistent with each other and 3D wasn’t doable on all platforms so the decision was made to move forward without it.

      2. We haven’t discussed controls just yet, we’ll be digging into this a bit later. Probably not the answer you were looking for, but thanks for your patience!

      3. Same as #2, haven’t revealed the full details yet. Stay tuned! Same bat-time, same bat-channel

      4. Fantastic survival horror campaign, upgraded RAID mode, new costumes, completely redone HD visuals, new characters to play as, new skills, new customization parts, new enemies, more challenging difficulty modes, reduced/optimized loading, enemy/item positioning is now random to mix things up a bit, RE.net integration and unlockables, etc. This is definitely not a simple port as some may imagine :)

      5. 3DS and PS-vita infrastructure let alone developing games for them are extremely different beasts. Even just the screens as you mention are completely different resolutions/functions. Take a look at the top comment for my full Vita response.

  • This game would be just as good and would sell great if a Vita version was worked on with Crossplay with PS3 users for RAID!

  • Well that settles it, I’m buying two copies!(one for myself, another for a friend) Heard a lot of good things about this game, true survival horror.

  • A Vita version, please!

  • I really love when I click in the image and can’t see in full resolution :'(

And Capcom AND SONY please tell us… Why not Vita?

  • And not for Vita, great job

  • @ clupula668

    HAHAHAAHHAHHAA :D

  • LOL @ everyone asking about a Vita version.

If they had made a port for the Vita, then they WOULD HAVE SAID SO.
