May 7th, 2013 might seem like a long way away, so to help assuage the excruciating wait we’re announcing today that players who pick up God of War: Ascension will be able to get their hands on a demo of The Last of Us when it becomes available at a later date.
We teamed up with the development crew at Santa Monica Studio to include access to a chapter of The Last of Us in every copy of God of War: Ascension, so you won’t have to wait too long to get your hands on two of the biggest games of the year. Just load the God of War: Ascension disc into your PS3 and find The Last of Us listing on the main menu. There, you’ll find details on how you can obtain The Last of Us demo for free as soon as it becomes available.

Why would you require us to buy something in order to try a demo?
Isn’t the whole point of a playable demo to NOT spend money in order to see weather you want to buy it or not?
This sort of thing really should be made available to Plus as it says in the description “Early access to betas and demos”…

I don’t even want to know how large that game is going to be.. I’m guessing over 20GB.. maybe 40GB.
Now if Sony would start giving us a list of approved 2.5″ hard drives we wouldn’t have to worry about them

B. overheating or
C. Causing slowdown, audio problems, de-synced FMV in games due to the hard drive “not being full compatible with our system” -PlayStation Support
I’ve tried 2 brand new hard drives in my PS3 before giving up and buying a new 320GB system.
I guess this is ultimately what Sony wants though, which is why they aren’t providing a safe list of fully compatible hard drives for upgrading.

everyone else….. why would sony market a new ip on a game thats T- rated and likely only going to sell 1-2 million…. instead of it’s m rated game gow game still guaranteed to do 3-5 million to promote interest????

I was getting GoW: Ascension anyway like I’ve done with every GoW game before it, but this just sweetens the deal even more, I am also waiting impatiently for TLOU to be released, currently my most anticipated game, it’s been a while since I’ve been this impatient for a game.

at 95 very good point but my comment stands i dont understand why are they putting this demo in a God of War game when in my opinion God of War is the bigger game here and doesnt need any demo lol, The Last of Us is one of the most anticipated titles this year, God of War too so why not putting the demo on a smaller game, a game that really needs a push, God of War is not that game lol.
@Eric One elegant solution that I’ve seen not too often if putting a sticker on the wrapper instead of incorporating it into the box art. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations integrated it into the box art for preorder DLC and now my copy has a lame Best Buy logo on it T_T

I was not planning on buying GOW as it does not look like my type of game. Now i am having second thoughts about Last of Us – is it more like GOW than i previously thought? Perhaps i need to investigate further…
@110: The issue here is that ascencion sint generating much buzz, so they are trying to give it a push, specially with games like dmc and rising generating more buzz, and talking about buzz, the last of us its has the highest one for upcoming ps3 game in a lot of gaming sites.
I hope you continue the trend you’ve done with original trophy sets. I love having my Uncharted platinums, despite not being too keen on competitive online.
I don’t mind adding more trophies later for specific online stuff through DLC. I think that works well, and I hope you continue to do things that way.

I pre-ordered both the Survival and Post-Pandemic Edition (which is already sold-out?!) as I’m a big fan of Naughty Dog and I want to properly celebrate the release of the TLOU. But I’m also looking forward to GOW Ascension. Now getting a demo with that game is awesome. Thanks for your efforts Sony and ND!

God damn there are some negative people in this world… It never ceases to amaze me how a positive thing, like putting a demo of a potential AA+ title in with the retail version of a likely A+ title can be a bad thing..
The same people who whinge about an expensive collector edition are the same sort of people who complain about a free demo… If you don’t want to buy a CE, don’t buy it… If you don’t want to buy GOW:A for access to a TLOU demo don’t buy it.
As for MP trophies. The smart bet would suggest the MP trophies will be similar to U2 and U3.. ND have always been pretty good in allowing non-MP players an obtainable Platinum… Insomniac with the exception of Resistance 2 are the same.. Even then, if a Platinum decides a purchase for you, then you are losing the essence of what gaming should be. I’ll never Plat GTAIV or RDR, but I did get 100% in their offline modes, and loved every minute of it… Just as bad are the people who get 100% and the Plat, but then the developer patches in some DLC trophies, and the gamer feels forced to buy the DLC just to get their precious % back up to 100. They are just trophies!

I think your game region and PSN account region are different. While PS3 can play games from any region as it is region-free, DLC is region locked. For an example, you can play a region 1 game with a region 3 account but the region 1 DLC will not work on the region 3 account. And it wont work if you buy a region 3 DLC for your region 1 game. Believe me, thats how i lost my money.

In response to your reply to RidleysBox regarding multiplayer trophies, he’s obviously talking about the constant swarm of DLC trophies that get added to each game. I haven’t even played the game and I know how notoriously annoying those are. I still haven’t bothered going back to try the Uncharted series simply because those multiplayer DLC trophies seem like a pain in the ass.
“Win a Plunder game without letting the opposing team score (5-0)”. These kind of trophies are the worst. You should never have to rely on random factors like how good your teammates play or how badly your opponents play for a trophy. Trophies should only challenge your own abilities.
I’m still going to get The Last of Us since it appeals to me much more than Uncharted, but trophies like these are enough to sway me negatively when I’m on the edge about picking up a game I’m not sure about.

Why do trophies determine if a game is bought or not. I’m a trophy hunter but if a game is worth playing like Resistance: Fall of Man, Fear, etc than why not play it to enjoy the game? If you only play games to stat pad your trophies then there is something really wrong with you.
Besides playing a game that determine how well your teammates play is a challenge to some people. You have to learn to find teammates, make friends, strategize and plan into achieving these more difficult trophies.
PayDay: The Heist has some extremely tough trophies to achieve but there are fun when everything goes well and play as a team. Easy Street is a killer and its taking sometime to achieve but its possible.

Who said anything about playing a game for trophies? No one. I’m still getting The Last of Us even though I know they’ll add in ridiculous MP trophies. Padding trophies? No one said anything remotely close to that.
When you’re only somewhat interested in a game though, irritating trophies are definitely a turn off. I’m going to go for 100%. I always have, even before trophies came around. I like to complete every challenge in games like Ninja Gaiden. With trophies you simply get a record of it on your profile.
You don’t like doing that? Too bad. A lot of us do. If we have fun getting the most out of the game in that way, then that IS the right way to play the game.
I agree that it’s stupid to play a game just for easy trophies, but I couldn’t really care less about it. Someone wants to play Hannah Montana for the trophies? Let them do what they want, it doesn’t affect me in the slightest. The fact that people even buy crap like that just shows how trophies can affect game sales.
Yes, sometimes online trophies are fun, and you can meet people you wouldn’t have otherwise. Trophies that rely on chance or an unbalanced match in your favor are not fun though. They’re certainly not a challenge simply because they’re annoying.
The online trophy for Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is probably the hardest one out there. It doesn’t rely on getting an unbalanced match-up though, or getting a rare opportunity for a stupidly specific kill. You just have to play well with your partner.
