As the players return to the ice for the 2012-13 hockey season, so does the latest NHL GameCenter application to give PS3 users the ability to stream live out-of-market hockey games in full HD. And, just like last season, users in the United States and Canada can download the new NHL GameCenter application for free.
Yup, that’s right. Even if you don’t have a subscription to NHL GameCenter LIVE, you can still view a wide range of NHL content through the NHL GameCenter application, including features such as post-game highlights, team schedules, standings, player stats and full NHL scoreboard.
So, what do you get if you’re already an NHL GameCenter LIVE subscriber? Pretty much everything an avid hockey fan can ask for. The 2013 app features a whole new experience and a new user interface that makes it easier than ever to navigate all the games in a given day with the new current daily view, change season years to access and find previous archived games as well as see global navigation to access game stats and other data. In addition to these new features, let me run down some of the other enhanced streaming features you have access to through your PS3:

In general I really like the new app. It’s much improved over last year. However, there are two issues I have with it.
1) It does not support the Playstation 3 bluetooth remote control. For example, I can’t use the “enter” button to select a game, I have to use “X”. Also the play, pause, etc., buttons do not work. That is one place where the 2013 app is a step backwards from the 2011-12 app.
2) When Gamecenter itself was having network issues (to put it mildly) on Tuesday, the PS3 app didn’t seem to handle that very gracefully. Three times the app made the screen go black and my PS3 locked up. No other game or app does that to me.
Please make a vita game. I’m sure you can make the puck glow pink or something to make it noticeable on the ice. I love playing ‘The Show’ on my vita and I would love to play a hockey game! :)

Unfortunately, the PS3 app is the worst app of NHL GameCenter I’ve used yet – iPad, iPhone, Roku, Xbox all perform better under strenuous network conditions (usually during earlier games, late games are fine) , I’m afraid.
How about an app for vita?
Can’t reiterate ATHun’s comment enough. Only the gamepad buttons work. Needs to support remote commands.
Same with me, ATHun hit the nail on the head. Keep in mind that the previous version was even worse when streaming content, and at time, I knew it was the APP and not the network.
Improvements are great though, and a VITA version would be fantastic (or at least enable remote play option for it). The only thing that bothers me about GameCenter Live in general is that they blackout games that are on the NHL Network, which is an added *monthly* cost that my current TV line-up package doesn’t have. I need this because Saturday games are typically the ones from Hockey Night in Canada (I am Canadian) and it doesn’t get better than their broadcasting (same quality goes for TSN and Rogers SN, to a slightly lesser degree).
Noticed the app was updated a few days ago. But so late after the start of the season? Well that can’t be good for business.
Anyways the update is very nice. The seek function on highlight vids is a welcome improvement. It’s dissapointing not having player stats for every game though.
Also it doesn’t save your favorite team pick. You have to enter it every time you use the app.

Made the mistake of buying a subscription to this two years ago. Every Habs game I wanted to watch was blacked out. If I wanted to watch a different game the framerate almost made it unbearable.

Finally! I hope the improvements aren’t all cosmetic, cause this app needed serious performance improvements as well. Like maybe stop jumping backwards by 2 minutes every time there’s a slight buffering issue…
I wish the NHL would go all in like MLB does…MLB lets you choose radio audio, or ballpark sounds (no annoying commentators, etc). Way more choices for their customers.
Yeah, the MLB app really is leading the way, feature and performance-wise, in my experience.
This is great news. Although I’m still a little peeved that this wasn’t ready for the start of the season. Although I guess it wasn’t too big a loss. My Caps haven’t showed me that much yet anyway.
when trying to go into the nhl gamecenter app on my ps3 i am getting an error message…it says : network error: connection failure. the site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. try again in a few minutes. error code 2… has anybody else had this issue, and if so, how do i fix it ?
i have been trying for 2 days to get it to work, but everytime, it says the same thing…

As a matter of fact I watched some NHL Hockey yesterday on my Playstation 3. It looks great. But I hope they’ll clean up some bugs soon. Been looking forward to this app since they restarted the NHL Season.

On my PC, I can select the quality of the stream, can I do that on the PS3 ? If the answer is Yes, where can I select it ? If not, what is the standard quality of the stream on PS3 ?
I live in Russia now.And I can watch only highlights and classic games on my PS3. All games since 19.01.2013 are blackout. On my PC I can watch all games without blackout. On me Iphone I can watch games after 48 hours end competitions. Any ideas?
Doesn’t work for me on PS3, I installed the app and just receive Error code 2. I mean I don’t even get a chance to put a login or password in, what a useless app.

app has never worked for me, get an error code 2 everytime and then the app freezes, have deleted and redownloaded it 3 times without any improvement.
I watch some games since the realese but since yesterday (feb 2) can’t connect. anymore, I have the message Network error… code 2.
I call Sony support but the agent doesn’t know anything… he ask me to uninstall and reinstall the app… keep telling me he doesn’t have anything on this error and he ask me to call nhl support. I call nhl support, I wait for 50 min without been able to speak to anyone…
Next time I call NHL support it will be to cancel my subscription. Why do we pay if we can’t watch game ? I

mike_oz1981, I’m not sure that that’s a problem with the app. I think GameCenter itself has been having problems. I got that error a couple of days ago, but when I tried again, it worked. The reason I say it is GameCenter itself is because I had problems with the Android app and the web-based version as well. Last year I had no problem getting through to their tech support. This year, I think they’ve been bombed so much with calls that it’s overwhelmed their system. Obviously they didn’t use the extra spare time to work on their infrastructure.

I fix the network error 2.
In the setting system. You must restore the setting file (don’t know what is it exactly in English because my system is in french). This option will reset all your setting files… :) when your internet setting are done. Start the NHL game center app. Enter your PSN login info.
After that, you will have a promt that will ask you your NHL GameCenter ice login info. Then it will work.
Don’t really know what is the problem… login info or something else. I was able to watch game before and suddently I wasn’t able anymore. The make me think it’s not the login info… but who really know ?
