There is no such thing as the PlayStation 4 and there wont be. Its going to be called the PlayStation Orbis. We have reached a point where numbers dont mean anything. PlayStation Orbis and PlayStation Vita, together Orbis Vita is Latin for Circle of Life. I do believe they are going to announce the PlayStation Orbis. This video clearly shows Sony’s vision of the “Circle of Life”.
Also notice in the video it seems to focus on the circle. The circle not only shows up more then the others but its also displayed closer and/or larger then the other in the part when they show all the symbols floating around.
Please make the PS4 backwards compatible! There are so many great PS3 games coming out this year, and I really don’t want to have 2 consoles sitting under my TV!
While I will inevitably be getting a Wii U at some point this year, I’m way more excited about the possibly of getting a PS4. Hopefully The Last Guardian is a launch title :)

HYPE the videogame industry has lived on Hype for too long now, I remember in the late 80’s early 90’s they didn’t need to hype everything because they had genuine original fun games to play
I bet its about PS mobile remember E3 and I havent heard anything about it since so this is probably the offical anouncment for that. It is too early for a new council from both Xbox and PS I think we have a few more years for that announcment to be made.
As excited as I am about PS4, I have 3 worries:
1.) Game lock out, if a game is attatched to an account, preventing the purchase of used games or games borrowed from friends and family.
2.) Lack of backwards compatability.
3.)A statement I heard minutes ago about Sony focusing less on hardware upgrades, and more on the “social aspects” of gaming.
I can get past #2, if the hardware allows for a more robust graphical enhancement, keeping in mind I see the ability to render and control more AI at the same graphical level as the PS3 without studder or slowdown counting as “enhancement”.
HOWEVER, if, and that’s a great big if right there, they go the MS route of social apps over gaming, I will be waiting untill support for PS3 to be exhausted before going to PC gaming, I have a pc for facebook and a console for gaming.
The deal breaker is used game lock out. ANY console that includes this feature is dead in the water, and not worth wasting my money on.
Until those questions are answered, I will be sitting in cautious anticipation.
I just want to see Sony blow Microsoft out of the water by announcing a $349.99 MSRP for the PS4 and $49.99 MSRP for the software at launch.
I know, I know, asking for the impossible, but at least I can dream.
Games for the next generation (Microsoft, Nintendo, Apple, and Steam included) better not increase in price, or else the gaming industry will likely fold along with the increase. We’ve only tolerated (not liked) this current gen’s price hike back up to $60. In an era where cartridge technology hasn’t been used for roughly a decade, (Obviously PS never used cartridges.) and with games increasingly being pushed in the digital realm, games really should be no more than $50 new. Even then, that’s a lot of money to spend on a game that may be a complete bomb, (Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II anybody?) (Plus, not all games have playable demos, or if they do they are routinely released weeks to months after the full game has already launched.) and enough is enough. I also shudder to think of the day when collector’s editions of games are $150+ standard. $100-$120 is already a lot, too much at times.
There is a “steam box” in the makings to. If sony doesn’t make the ps4, unquestionable…its steam. I love me some playstation. But once steam makes a console…there will be no console war. There will be only one. So….sony better step it up. ALOT. NO disclocking per account. Add backwards compatibility. Give us hardware options to, like easy to upgrade harddrives. (Easy now, sure, but more user friendly. Most people are terrified to take their ps3 apart.)
There is plenty i’m anxious for. Make it worth the wait.
Doesn’t have to be a reveal of any sort interms of specifications, pricing or release date, just give me a logo and tell me it’s on the way.
“Be the first to know” it can’t be their 2013 game lineup since they’ve already announced the games(Last of us, GoW Ascension and Beyond two souls).. hence there is no way to be the first to know about it, since it’s already known by millions. So it has to be something “totally” new.
Announce PS4 Sony, and you’ll have the biggest hypetrain for a console launch ever.
Don’t announce it, and you’ll have your credibility ruined for years to come.
I think it’s most likely the PS4 since it is about the “future of PlayStation”.
I really want backwards compatibility for the PS4. I think they should either have an optional model with backwards compatibility or an optional add-on that can be attached inside the PS4 with some kind of expansion card or something like that. I don’t want to worry about my PS3 slim breaking down on me so backwards compatibly would be appreciated! :)
– Cross game’s chat/ cross system/ cross movies etc..
– Ps1, Ps2, Ps3 compatibility.
– More basic ps3/ps4 theme colors (as it stands psp/vita has more colors)
-Obvious linking of ps3 account to PS4 to keep ps store purchases & trophies

So why is Sony trying to “jump first”, you guys haven’t done it before don’t start now. Maybe a teaser trailer would be nice stating that the console is coming soon or something. Don’t go releasing specs and or images of the console not even a solid date. Plus there are way too many good games coming out for the PS3 this year i’m personally not ready for you guys to push out an new console this year, maybe late 2014 or early 2015.

Didn’t Sony lose a few hundred million dollars last year can they really afford to release a new console and sell it a loss like they did with the ps3. This seems like a mistake.Am I only one who doesn’t want to see Sony go bankrupt.
@everybody, announcing the PS4 doesn’t mean that it’s going be out this year(it may be but doesn’t mean it), and plus this isn’t news really. The first party studios have messing around with a PS4 developer kit since last Summer, and possibly longer. They’re just unveiling the design, and maybe some specs.

All new technology sells at a premium for early investors. The laser disc, the VHS, the DVD, The Blu-Ray. All of these technologies sold for premiums far beyond the average consumers means. The “Camcorder” originally sold for over $10,000. You can now buy one for $20 at a garage sale.

The PS2 is still in use. The PS2 was very much alive when the PS3 was revealed. There is still one new game release coming to the PS2. In March of 2013.

While there were losses in certain Sony divisions in 2012, their gaming division, specifically the PS3 is posting profits for 2012. Returns have exceeded investment. Since this report, Sony has been taking measures to streamline the various divisions, cutting overhead costs to accommodate over all health. This is normal in a consumer market that expands and contracts.

Just checked more prices for 4k, panasonic… 500,000 dollars. WOW. Everything else 30-50k is about what it is.
