The Drop: Week of February 11th 2013 New Releases

Aliens: Colonial Marines is a First-Person Shooter set in the Alien movie franchise universe in which the player takes on the role of a member of a squad of colonial marines sent to the planet LV-426. The game is designed as a true sequel to the 1986 movie, Aliens, done in video game format, and features iconic locations, weapons and alien varieties from Aliens and other movies in the series. Additional features include: four-player co-op functionality, a new alien type, and customizable weapons.

Created by Gearbox Software, the critically acclaimed and fan-favorite developers of Borderlands and Brothers In Arms, this first-person shooter is steeped in the eerie, claustrophobic and terrifying atmosphere that made the Aliens films successful worldwide. You and your friends will become the most badass military outfit in the galaxy – the US Colonial Marines. It’s down to you to not just survive, but wipe out the Xeno infestation.

Enjoy this week’ The Drop.

Aliens: Colonial Marines

In Aliens: Colonial Marines, players are part of a United States Colonial Marine squad and must prepare to face an Aliens assault more intense and horrific than ever before. Players must destroy the enemy with classic Aliens weaponry ranging from pulse rifles to flamethrowers as well as brand-new equipment.

Aliens: Colonial Marines features a story driven single-player mode and a four player co-op mode allowing players to share the chilling experience with three friends. In co-op mode, each player assumes the persona of a United States Colonial Marine and have a distinct role to play in the completion of every mission.

Ecolibrium (PS Vita Exclusive) — Ecolibrium is part of the PlayStation Vita “Discovery Apps” initiative, bringing PlayStation gamers unique interactive experiences that mix gameplay with life experiences such as social networking, geo-roaming and other digitally-aided experiences made possible with PlayStation Vita.

Bring harmony to a virtual ecosystem in the PS Vita gaming app Ecolibrium. Create a balanced ecosystem by choosing different combinations of species, plants and artefacts. Acquire, collect and trade new plants and animals with other PS Vita owners. Collect new creatures using the GPS feature of the PS Vita 3G model and show them off to your friends on Facebook. Release unwanted creatures into the wild for other players to pick up using “near”. Unlock new content by completing challenges.

Persona 4 Arena — Developed in partnership with genre master Arc System Works, Persona 4 Arena uses hand-drawn, high definition 2D anime-style fighters and colorful, over-the-top special effects to bring to life characters from the acclaimed, highly popular Persona 3 and Persona 4. Backed up by an original, hardcore fighting engine from one of the most respected 2D fighting game developers in the industry, Persona 4 Arena represents the biggest, most noteworthy expansion of the esteemed series to date.

Alien Breed (PS Vita Cross Buy) — Alien Breed is fondly remembered by its fans, especially in the UK where the Special Edition stayed in the “All Formats” charts for over a year. We were really proud of the 2009 version of the game, but a remake of the original game turned out to be a much better fit for the platforms it was appearing on. The first new feature is the most obvious: the game has had a full HD graphical overhaul, with the original graphics being an optional toggle. Two things that made a direct remake a frustrating experience were that the player could find themselves getting lost easily and could also run out of ammunition and door keys. To remedy this we added a toggle-able map screen and a persistent shop, to allow player to replenish supplies whenever necessary.

Everybody Dance — Using the PlayStation Move motion controller and PlayStation Eye camera to track and score moves, players can test their dancing skills with three difficulty levels, each featuring unique routines for every track produced by world-renowned choreographers. Everybody Dance allows players to hit the floor solo style, team up with a second player for a cooperative Partner Routine, challenge a friend to a competitive Dance Battle, or use the Party Play mode where up to 20 players can go head-to-head for the ultimate dance-off. Players can also use Everybody Dance’s Dance Class feature to improve their skills through detailed routine breakdowns and then take their game to the next level by developing original choreography using the Dance Creator feature.

Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken (PS Vita) — Step into the clawed feet of badass rebel Hardboiled Chicken, the original Coq of War who sets out on a mission to assassinate the totalitarian penguin leader and take down the evil regime that has taken over Albatropolis. Destroy enemies with a slew of weapons and bear the yolk of Hardboiled’s past as his missions unlock the secrets to his mysterious past and illuminate the truth behind the penguin government. Master fowl play in the co-op campaign as a pair of Budgie commandos on a mission to save the general’s daughter. Many lives will be destroyed, countless penguins will die!

YU-GI-OH! 5D’s Decade Duels Plus — Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s Decade Duels Plus is based on the popular Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s animated TV series. Decade Duels Plus includes the latest cards from the official Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s Trading Card Game. Complete against the most popular Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s characters during the finals Battle through Single player or compete in 4 player tag duels.

All states have come together to create the World Nations Union. But through the centuries, this government became more and more inhuman and tyrannical. Pursue your enemies among flying fortresses and force the evil United World Nation back to its mother base. This is your glory hour. Don’t miss it!

Twisted Metal: Black — They say the mind bends and twists to deal with the horrors of life, but sometimes the mind bends so much that it snaps in two… And so begins the next chapter in car combat:Twisted Metal: Black. Designed and developed by the makers of the original two PSOne games in the series,Twisted Metal: Black sends gamers on a deranged journey through a world rife with horror and desolation. Once underway, players will experience nine vicious battlegrounds with interactive environments and dynamic weather, 14 diabolically destructive vehicles, more than 20 deathmatch maps for four-person multiplayer action, and an improved physics engine that boasts more exaggerated powerslides and more responsive turn rates.

    4. Duel Masters TCG
    5. Pokemon TCG

  • Wasn’t the Dragonborn DLC for Skyrim coming this week, or am I mistaken?

  • Don’t forget the Playstation All Stars Battle Royale DLC!!! Kat and Emmit free for one week.

  • So, “dragon_night” is utterly shocked week after week and seems to be a dope head. Well buddy, you’re just going to keep on being disappointed week after week. Obviously, you can’t seem to take a hint that its NOT (that’s N-O-T all in uppercase with an “!” mark with it) Sony Computer Entertainments call so, you’re better off haunting Square-Enix about Kingdom Hearts because they apparently don’t read the PlayStation Blog. They have their own forums to keep track of. Come to think of it, I’m sort of hoping that they don’t release it on PSN just to spite annoying people like you.

So when they tell you to “keep at it” and “keep pushing us” they don’t mean that you rail on them but, that you go through the proper channels. That would be asking Square-Enix. Jacky T. is just too polite of a guy to say that to your face.

GIVE IT A REST ALREADY! (Sony, you might want to check for hacking as well as perhaps dragon_knight has bugged you for auto post every week.

  • Any chance of seeing games from the Ace Combat series? I’d love to play an HD remake of the first 5 games.

  • Oh hell yeah. I’ve been waiting for Decade Duels Plus since it was announced a few weeks ago. Know if the DLC cards are being released as well?

Also, #1, why do you think that Kingdom Hearts is going to be released on PSN? There has been no word from Square about releasing it on PSN. They actually said anything about it, they said that there’s no plans for it to be released on PSN.

  • Rocket birds great game. Thanks for make it possible for the vita.

  • @40: No I’m right. Sure you can not pay, but then you barely get to actually enjoy the game. You are extremely limited on points and they refresh very little every hour. So, unless you enjoy watching your grass grow between gaming sessions then you absolutely must pay.

  • Hopfully something good comes to plus members this week because I was thinking of getting a year but it just doesn’t seem worth it right now. That Mega man bundle was cool, but after that, there was nothing but the god of war beta and getting the sly 4 demo a week early. If it’s sonic adventure then that’s okay even though I have it on dreamcast. Gotham city impostors is another good choice. Rock band blitz would also be just great since I have a whole lot of dlc songs to play. Also can’t wait for the pasbr characters tomorrow. :-)

  • Decent update for Vita owners. Finally took the plunge on PS+, mostly for the cloud saves (less than a Starbucks each month). 100 bubble icon limit might be a bit of a problem soon, though.

  • ecolibrium looks like a trip. i ll give that a try! i can’t show it to my students, they will end up just spelling “equilibrium” incorrectly on all my tests.

  • Where is the T@G app for Ps Vita? I have the 3g + Wifi Model

  • P4A on PSN? Finally Europe will get to play this game!!!

  • @64 (Jotamide)

Ah-ah-ahhh…not so fast! This is just for the NA PSN, m’kay?

  • I’d like to see a Yu-Gi-Oh game on the Vita, haven’t played one since one of em on the GBA & I think a card game on a console would get boring to quick

  • Ecolibrium should be good for a run. I’ve heard about Travel Bug, I think it’s called but since I don’t go very far on the average day it’s not a big deal to me. I’m very interested in T@g though, since I have a 3G Vita.

Ahh, the release of the PS1’s Twisted Metal… Perhaps my hopes for Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon are not fully misplaced after all?

  • Hell Yes!!!! Aliens: colonial marines! Gonna be Killing N Pregnatin Soon!

  • Just the same as the drop never got reply, I guess NOONE in SCEA even read the comments anyway, so dragon night will be there every single week, no cure for that.

Well anyway, Equilibrium is an update I’m looking forward for. It’s second week so I’m not looking forward to Plus post, no way it will give any PSvita goods tomorrow,

  • @68 Yellow_snow_87

“Gonna be Killing N Pregnatin Soon!”

In any other context that sentence sounds pretty horrific.

  • Still no Silent Hill HD Collection or Silent Hill Downpour?:(

  • where in the world is crash bandicoot and spyro at for the ps one games on ps vita i mean damn sony 2 years in and you still can’t accomplish something the psp had from day1 no wonder the vita sells so poorly its because it has less functionality than a psp its only good for playing games already on ps3 bring the ps one games so i can knock some dust off my vita. and i bet the guy doesnt respond to the message because he does not know what to say he knows im right

  • @45 we already know what the free PS+ game is gonna be… its Closure…

aka crap that I dont want/couldn’t care less about.. and for those who dont believe me just remember I said it here first when it gets announced tomorrow

  • Excited for ecolibrium!!! Here’s hoping tag comes soon :D

  • @73: Oh I believe it and I can’t say I’m all that excited. I had zero interest in that game as it was.

  • I noticed that you haven’t mentioned about Skyrim’s 1st upcoming DLC on The Drop. Any idea on the price or the size of the DLC?

  • Easy my friends . . . SONY says (Masaru Kato) the PS vita isnt working . . . BRAVO SONY BRAVO at least you realize that VITA has mistake in the GAMES and MARKETING . . . VITA can´t challenge the casual games (facebook, android, itunes games) because the demand is changing . . . I proud of my vita, but not with the bad games . . . AND EXPENSIVE games . . . and the false promises . . . where are the PSONE PS2 games??? where? where are the apps? why I have problems with the use of NEAR at my home? why? why?

SONY I USE YOUR T SHIRT ALL THE TIME . . . but sometimes you dissapointed me!!!!

  • Why would Kingdom Hearts be released as Playstation 2 classic if it’s being released as a part of Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix in Japan March 14? It’s not technically confirmed in the US yet I don’t think, even though Jesse McCartney may have leaked it.

  • @52 #5 won’t happen as long as Sony and Nintendo are competitors.

    Sorry for double posting.

  • Yay! 4 players co-op

  • @73 I hope you’re right. Closure would be cool. Nice to see a PS ONE classic, gives me hope for more. Twisted Metal: Small Brawl would be fun to play again. Also I have not played Black in years, might give it a buy after I travel to Morrowind and (pending a delay) deliver some combos with Emmet and Kat.

  • Oh dear…third one.

@76 Skyrim DLC comes next week, hence it not being mentioned. I know it’s supposed to be 50% off for one week. Well Dragonborn is this week. Hearthfire 2/19. Dawnguard 2/26. So, $20, $5, $20 respectfully at regular price.

  • @73: Give credit where credit is due = http://www.psnstores.com/2013/02/playstation-store-sneak-peek-february-12th-2013/ “Note all content is subject to change.”

I already own/completed Closure so I’m hoping for something else. (Sleeping Dogs, Batman AC)

  • what?? no dragon ball z games for the psp. or any kingdom heart games. okay playstation we are going to have a long talk about this. dont make us wait to long.

  • @73: Give credit where credit is due = psnstoresDOTcom/2013/02/playstation-store-sneak-peek-february-12th-2013/ “Note all content is subject to change.”

I already own/completed Closure so I’m hoping for something else. (Sleeping Dogs, Batman AC)

  • dragonborn for skyrim will be released as well.

  • @42: I’m with you. Twisted Metal 3 is my favorite. I’d like to see that on PSN.

  • Thanks so much SCEA, I have been waiting for ecolibrium! something to look forward to opening my ps vita every day! lolz.

    great job..

.. wow twisted metal ! nice! although i’m more of a vigilante fan. hope it comes out in ps1 classic too.

  • Can you make a request for Deux Ex: The Conspiracy (it was released in EU, but not in NA) and also have Aliens: Colonial Marines on PSN?

  • Bring Tekken 3 on PSN, I can’t believe its not there,Twisted Metal 3 would also be good.

  • Oh and THANK YOU for finally bringing out another PSone Classic. Can’t remember the last time we got one.

Hopefully we continue to get more.

  • The YuGi game seems quite interesting!

  • I don’t know if this will get seen, but I would love it if Atlus could put Thousand Arms on PSN. One of my favourite games of all time.

    Now then, on to business.

Persona 4 Arena and Ecolibrium look amazing! So glad I got a Vita. Best decision I’ve ever made.

  • Is it possible to play the download version of Persona 4 Arena in Europe, too?
Because the disc based version is region locked and its a pain to wait for the Europe release -.-

  • I hope this Yugioh game is fix, the one on XBL was trash and all that it seem Konami did was add “Plus” to its title an reputing it out on XBL and finally PSN.

I think so far the only good card game to play on console so far is Magic TG, the only thing that sucks about is the AI’s ungodly draws. I have good luck in real life, but I don’t have the luck to draw things to counter all the time like that game does.

  • Still no DBZ Tenkaichi..but Twisted Metal seems like a good update this week. Waiting for Kingdom Hearts too.

  • Is Persona 4 Arena PSN version region free ? I WANNA PLAY IT !!!!!

  • Don’t forget that ES5: Skyrim Dragonborn comes out on Tuesday too! Another Skyrim DLC comes out next week too (Hearthfire?) and another the week after that!

  • WAIT A SECOND!

Dynasty Warriors, in the demo section?

you mean were getting the DW7 Empires Demo?! AWESOME SAUCE!

  • Looks good to me!
    Ecosystem game looks tight too.
