Skyrim: Dragonborn DLC

The wait is over! For the next three weeks, we’ll be releasing a new Skyrim add-on each week on PSN. This week, with Dragonborn, you’ll journey beyond Skyrim to Solstheim, an island off the coast of Morrowind. Use all your abilities and skills honed in Skyrim to save the island from a mysterious power that threatens to destroy Solstheim’s inhabitants.

Beyond Dragonborn’s main quest, the content is packed with hours of new areas to explore complete with new characters, new towns, new dungeons and plenty of new side quests to complete. And for elite players that have attained Level 81 status, you’ll have a chance to square off with the game’s fiercest adversary, The Ebony Warrior.

For more details on Dragonborn, available for 50% off ($9.99) during launch week only, read our list of features below:

  • Explore Beyond Skyrim – Leave the province of Skyrim and travel to the coastal island of Solstheim. Encounter the Dark Elven settlers of Raven Rock and the native Skaal, as you unravel the mystery of a Dragonborn’s return.
  • Become the Ultimate Dragonborn – Harness the power of the Voice as you face off against the first Dragonborn. Wield new shouts and spells including Dragon Aspect – allowing you to summon the inner power of a dragon to deliver colossal blows and strengthen other shouts.
  • New Powers – Discover dark powers as you journey into a new Daedric realm. Collect books of forbidden knowledge and choose new paths for your skills and abilities.
  • New dungeons, creatures, weapons, and more – Suit up in Bonemold and Chitin armors and wield Stalhrim weapons as you navigate through a myriad of dungeons. Battle formidable foes like Ash Spawn, Rieklings, and more.

Next week we’ll be back with information on next Tuesday’s release, Hearthfire.

I cant wait for it to arrive on the Australian PlayStation Store, I keep checking every 10 minutes. The wait is driving me crazy!

If you are buying this, you must have low self esteem and enjoy abuse. Bethesda will continue to pull this same delay crap with all their games on the PS3 and probably the next PlayStation too. Third party games should never have exclusivity on any console. The worst part is even after the delay, their PS3 games are buggy. The only way to stop this is to vote with your wallet.”

Very well said!

Thanks for that! I will be grabbing Dragonborn, and certainly don’t have low self esteem, or enjoy abuse? I only started playing Skyrim after the PS3 issues were fixed, and have never had any trouble, other than a few minor bugs. Skyrim has to be my fave game on PS3, and, as Bethesda have made an effort to get us the DLC content, despite the verbal hammering that they have taken from the community, then I will be supporting them, and buying the content. BTW, I just finished playing through Dishonored (another fantastic game), and had no problems there either, so not all Bethesda games are buggy and problematic, as suggested by others!

if i cared about the rumors that buying these dlc’s I wouldn’t be asking about when it’s going to arrive on aussie times. Please take your conspiracies and get lost in the bemeuda triangle or however it’s spelt. I want to play these dlc’s and not even bad reviews would change my mind.

Ancient songs of old have foretold of the coming of the Dragonborn, a man with the soul of a dragon destined to bring the downfall of the mighty world eater, Alduin. With Alduin’s defeat at the hands of this brave warrior, the nords could finally live without despair. Now a new threat emerges to threaten that which was fought so hard for on the island of Solsteim. A deadly force of unimaginable power brews and only one man stands in the way.

If that doesn’t get your heart pumping then you are dead inside.

After waiting this long for the DLC and not simply selling the game to flood the used game market, I’m going to be really pissed off if there are game breaking glitches in the DLC or if it goes on sale at a deeper discount later.

Bethesda owes anyone who buys this at least a modicum of respect given the PS3 version of the game that seems that nobody actually played it to test it, and I had to disable all autosave functions in order to play the game without game-breaking lag once I got over 100 hours in the game.

+ omorgan98 on February 13th, 2013 at 6:54 am said:

Thank god – it’s finally arrived in Britain. Its £6.50 [around there] and its epic. You’ve go to look hard for it though as it has only just been released.

Hi, I’m having several problems. I started Skyrim and expected it to tell me that there was this update 1.8 available. That didn’t happen. So I d/led Dragonborn and installed it anyway. I restarted Skyrim and when I got to the choice screen I found the new “downloadable content” choice and I picked it. It found the Dragonborn choice, but nothing happens after that. I can’t choose it, only able to O to get out of it. What am I doing wrong? Please help.

@613 I can’t see it on PSN? Where abouts is it?

+ Miltrez on February 13th, 2013 at 8:09 am said:

My kid is gonna enjoy this one. I am a little skeptical of purchasing a day one release product. I hope their QA attitude isnt “Well, lets release and see who can break what, first” and then…actually do that. Being that it is software, you will take your chance with it on day one release. Would love to see them post up the reasons why they had so much trouble, and how they addressed those issues, allowing the consumer to weigh that in their decision before purchasing it.

I downloaded update (called 2.08?) and have a downloadable content option within the game menu, but no choices within that option. It says “no content downloaded”? No Dragonborn option? Any ideas? Thanks!

+ Vasarcdus on February 13th, 2013 at 10:35 am said:

About freaking time!!! I was so close to just selling my copy of the game because I’ve burnt completely out on the regular game. Glad they finally decided they’d like to keep their Sony fanbase instead of throwing us all under the bus to please Microsoft.

@616 I am having the same issue as I don’t know how to activiate the dragonborn features once it has been downloaded. I see Dragonborn listed in the DLC menu but can’t do anything with it. Can someone please help?

+ no9dream on February 13th, 2013 at 11:59 am said:

@616 & 622

You don’t need to activate the dlc. Once you download & install it it’s just part of the game. Some Cultists will approach you, ask if you’re the dragonborn and then attack. Loot one of their bodies for a letter and that starts the main quest for Dragonborn which should then be in your Quest Log with all your other quests.

So far, this single dlc by itslef is more engaging, fun and intresting than any game I have seen released this year. I downloaded the dlc and started the game. I stood there on the porch of the Proudspire Manor and looked at my map and wondered how do I start this new dlc. After about 10 min of searching my map,I backed out of the map and decided to look around…all of a sudden, coming down the ally way I saw 2 figures approaching I have never seen in the game before headed towards me. My last save file was july 2012 but i knew this armor was something..I had never seen…It was the Cultist…Nuff Said..

So well written. Very smart move to release this first as it takes us into another land outside of Skyrim and it feels like a totally new game..

After downloading Dragonborn dlc, I am freezing every few minutes and have had a total of 5 minutes of gameplay without having to completely shut down my system and starting over. I am unable to save or anything. PS I have supported you for years against an overwhelming and vastly outnumbered XBOX community, but after waiting so long for this dlc because we are not respected, I give up. I bought my son an xbox after much debate because I was a staunch support of Playstation. But after seeing the consistincy of xbox compared to you and after this long wait for dlc and to have this happen, I will no longer support you. Good Day PS

+ BigAaronH on February 14th, 2013 at 1:02 pm said:

Waited TOOO dang long for this dlc and you provide me with an inferior product! Playstation has fallen to the bottom, even NES is better! The one thing I can thank you for after years of unyielding devotion to you, is atleast I recieved a discount and only paid $9.99 for the garbage of a dlc, and thus learned my lesson that PS doesn’t care about quality or how its community is treated. Fair price, just wish I would have not been so adamant that PS was the best years ago. XBOX users I apologize for doubting you and being so blind for so long.

Dragonborn was fun until it started lagging literally every second, and not only in Solsteim but in skyrim as well. My entire game is unplayable now. Thanks Bethesda

Does anyone know how do fix the water problem? Or is it not fixable?

+ JoshSr34 on February 15th, 2013 at 11:16 am said:

The only problem I have had with it so far is Flashing when I climb the mountains around the island, and when in and out of water. Plus there is a ton of holes all over the map literally you can look under most of the mountains. And yes plenty of places where it will glitch and make you float(or even bottomless pit fall) on threw the internal maps. Mostly this DLC is awesome, but it needs mass updating to fix problems that the game had before other previous fixes. Also Think it is dumb you can’t bring your horse, at least it won’t let me. I mean come on that boat you take over to the DLC island is HUGE. You could fit like 20 horses on it, but one is too much? Ridiculous!

+ ace_eric_99 on February 15th, 2013 at 2:00 pm said:

So no one knows how do fix it or I’m where u gotta get the four cubes and rash or lower the water and I’m at the part u gotta rash the water to get where I need do go. Is there another way up?

+ Millenium_Milk on February 15th, 2013 at 8:29 pm said:

@ace_eric_99 – You’ll need to delete the game and update data from your hard drive, but not the save files! Then reinstall the game and then redownload patch and install. After this long tedious effort you’ll find the game no long freezes when you go into the water… It happened to me quite a bit after the promising “definitely fixed” bug patch. Unfortunately I can’t bring myself to buy any Bethesda content on PS3 anymore, I can’t begin to mention the number of times I’ve had my gaming flow interrupted by frozen screens. I’ve even given up on Fallout New Vegas now as I’ve spent more time rebooting the ps3 than playing the game. Shame, ‘cos they’ve made some really great interactive games on an epic scale.

Is it just me or is anyone else having trouble playing the the DLC? I just downloaded it three times and for some odd reason it doesn’t let me play it! What’s going on!

down loaded last night, every time i approach the ship to travel to solstheim (very early in the quest line) the game locks up. i was unable in 4 restarts to even begin exploring this dlc. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I’m afraid i may be done with Bethesda games for the foreseeable future. I feel kind of foolish after the debacle of the game proper spending further money on content from them, but my memory of being in that world coupled “half price for a week” got me. Fool me once……..yada yada yada. Guess paying $9.99 to kill two cultists proves that old adage.

wondering if anyone knows if/when Dragonborn, Dawnguard, Hearthfire DLC will be available for PS store in Asia….using Honk Kong PS store here and can’t find Dragonborn DLC, which was supposed to be released 2/12 in the US. Time running out for me to get it at a discount!

+ melodicmizery on February 16th, 2013 at 1:51 pm said:

am i the only one who realizes that dlc is always 10$?? so there saying the original price of this dlc was 20$? i kind of think this article is lying a little bit i think the original price was 10$ and they said there giving us a half off discount but really arent doing us any favor at all because the game prob wasnt 20$ to begin with. heck i bought the entire full game for 25$ new. its like black friday or after christmas special they jack up the before price really high then mark a sale price so you think your getting a good deal when in reality the sale price is the original price it was anyways lol.

+ melodicmizery on February 16th, 2013 at 2:23 pm said:

ok i just re checked the ps store, and there is no other dlc that costs 20$ lol every dlc is only 10$ so basically they jacked up the price to 20$ just to say there giving us a deal when in reality its the same price it would be anyways! and then after a week there just boosting it by 10 more dollars then usual. ive never seen a dlc cost 20$ ever for one download. and they act like there doing us a discount favor when there really milking twice the amount of money out of us haha
