PSN Gamers' Choice Awards 2013

It’s that time of the year again! Today, we have the pleasure of announcing this year’s lineup of great titles for the third annual PSN Gamers’ Choice Awards. As we have in previous years, we’re opening up the polls and hoping that you’ll make your voice heard to determine the best downloadable PSN titles. We’ll again have three nominees across 10 categories that will feature the top-rated and most popular games of 2012.

Starting later today through February 25th, you can visit PlayStation Store or the Sony Entertainment Network Online Store to cast your vote in any of the categories by downloading a free XMB theme. Remember, your votes will determine who wins in every category – not to mention that winning titles will then go on sale for a limited time.

Once you’ve cast your vote, check back here next Tuesday to see which titles came out on top. Starting later that day when the PS Store updates, the winning game in each category will be discounted in the PS Store for one week, with an even deeper discount for PlayStation Plus members.

Now onto business! The nominees for the 2013 Gamers’ Choice Awards are (drumroll, please):

I was waiting for this, Morgan was right, this is an impressive collection of titles. I own a good majority of them, but giving other people who don’t own the game a chance to pick them up is still great.

Now, question, if Journey, by far one of the best games in the last decade, would win in multiple categories, would a greater discount be given, the second place winner gets the discount in a category, or would we miss out on a discount?

Good question. Only the winners would be on sale starting on 3/5. If Journey wins in 3 different categories only Journey will be on sale.

Journey and Sound Shapes were awesome, but surely there were better full PS3 and Vita games than those this year!

This is more about what you want to go on sale than whats good. So….vote for stuff you don’t think will go on Sale! Its not the way its meant to be but everyones gonna do it. You need to find a better system PSBlog. Maybe make the choice awards seperate from what we want on sale

Awesome nominees for each section, nice to see Journey is still dominating the PSN exclusives as well.

Mostly glad that PSASBR was picked for best PS3 game. Hopefully Santa Monica will take the game further in the near future.

1 Day everyone!

Under Best Competitive Multiplayer you list “Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 (PS3/PS Vita)”

This game doesn’t appear to be out for Vita. It actually would make an awesome Vita game, but I just checked the Vita store and this seems PS3 only. Is this a typo or an announcement?

What a terrible selection it’s pretty obvious which titles are going to win when you put up one great known game against crap, you pretty much should have just said journey and gravity rush and the walking dead will be onsale next week, this is just an example but like for the vita how about you put something like uncharted or kill zone vs gravity rush instead of this half assed selection

The nominees were mostly bselected on star rankings (number of stars and number of votes) that users give to games in the PS Store after purchaising a game. As a result, we are just showcasing what buyers have been ranking high and in most numbers. In short, PSN gamers decided.
Please next time use the ranking feature in the PS Store and hoepfully your favorite games will show up in next year’s selection. :-)

You can still get the PSN Gamer’s Choice Awards 2012 XMB themes from the PS Store, unless they removed them.

Journey would most categories.

@8 I bought Journey as a collection. but don’t own the others.

The one I want to win so it gets a discount is Journey, second choice Tokyo Jungle.

most of these choices are games i don’t care about aside from Walking dead and Gravity Rush. Wish there was a better Vita selection to choose from. God, i just know the overrated Journey will win most of the nominations, which is a shame. But here goes anyway:

Best psn Exclusive: Tokyo Jungle (very unique, though looked like a ps2 game)

Best Psn Game: Walking Dead (no competition at all here)

Best Indie: Rainbow Moon (mostly because of the lack of strategy rpgs around)

Best Full PS3: Borderlands 2 (why isn’t Far Cry 3 listed?!!!!)

Best Vita Game: Gravity Rush (very lame list but Gravity Rush was a great game)

Best psp: Ragnorak Tactics (i mainly just want a discount on this game, it was way overpriced).

Best Classic game: Persona 3 Fes (why isn’t Chrono Cross listed?)

Best Mini: ??? (nobody plays these)
Best PS Move: Tiger Woods i guess
Best competitive multiplayer: Counterstrike (another lame pool of choices)

I think if Journey was to win again? Yes, they should give it an even better discount to non-plus customers, but it’d be awesome if it was Free for Plus. Then again if it gets a “13 for 13″ discount it’d still be nice ^_^

+ Ryumoau on February 19th, 2013 at 9:04 am said:

if the sheep do choose journey for every category, please give us a discount on the second picked games. It would be a waste if it used up the discount slots in top 3 categories.

VOTE FOR THE ONES YOU GUYS DON’T HAVE!!! so we at least can get to try different games and get some nice discounts on the we have thought of buying, but that weren’t worth all that money.. so please choose wisely. because I can bet Most of us have played AC3, Journey and BL2.. so let’s give the other games a chance :)

25

+ megamixer on February 19th, 2013 at 9:08 am said:

Wow, weak year. Based on past PSN GCA’s there would usually be at least two or three things for me to vote on. This years selection? Zilch. Wouldn’t buy any of these games no matter how steep the discount so I’ll be withholding my votes. On the bright side that will mean a couple less samey-XMB themes clogging up the still cluttered mess of a download history :D

26

+ Ryumoau on February 19th, 2013 at 9:08 am said:

@22 yes a very strange omission. Seems like they are skewing some of the results because i can’t imagine anyone in their right mind picking Tales of Blob or Delta Stardust over Gravity Rush. There should have been another retail Vita game to truly compete with it.

Nominees are based on ratings on the store. In other words, how many times a game was bought and then rated.

Also, Gravity Rush is already free for PS+. If you’re going to buy that for 50% off, you may as well buy a subscription for PS+.

Journey is about as fun as watching paint dry. I still have yet to see 1 reason why people give it the praise it deserves unless it magically gets 1000times better after an hour or so of playing people really over rate this game on mass effect levels.

I see alot of people saying journey, which I totally agree should take it for Best PSN Exclusive or Best PSN game, but as far as indie games goes I found that rainbow moon really fits that niche more and since its not nominated for the other two areas should be what users should vote for in this award. Journey will have one of my votes but they will not be getting two more unless they say we will get a 25% discount per each award won as I want to see many games discounted not just journey.
