Today is an exciting day for gamers everywhere. As you may have seen live with millions of others across the world, just moments ago we introduced PlayStation 4 (PS4), our next-generation console that will deliver breakthrough gaming experiences for our fans starting this holiday season.

The future of PlayStation is all about great games and entertainment, and at PlayStation Meeting 2013, we brought some of the brightest and most creative minds from the development community on stage to unveil the games that will define PS4. A partial initial lineup for PlayStation 4 includes first-party games from Guerilla Games (Killzone: Shadow Fall), Sucker Punch (inFamous Second Son), Evolution Studios (Driveclub), and Japan Studio (Knack), as well as titles from our partners such as Activision/Bungie (Destiny), Blizzard Entertainment (Diablo III), Capcom (Deep Down), and Ubisoft (Watch_Dogs). PlayStation also reinforced its commitment to self-publishing and the independent development community by having Jonathan Blow onstage who gave a sneak peek of his upcoming title The Witness. Finally, the incredible minds at Media Molecule and Quantic Dream gave glimpses of their conceptualization process and the future of gameplay with some remarkable footage. We only scratched the surface at the event, and will have many more exciting titles to come.
With so much amazing content in development for PlayStation 4, we want to give our fans every opportunity to check out virtually any PS4 game when it becomes available. In the future, when a gamer sees a title of interest in PlayStation Store, they can immediately start playing a portion of the actual game.
Our next generation console will change the way you interact with friends while you play. PlayStation 4 lets you instantly share images and videos of your favorite gameplay moments on Facebook with a single press on the DUALSHOCK 4 controller’s “share” button. You can also broadcast while you play in real-time through Ustream, allowing friends to comment or jump into your game in new ways. With PlayStation 4 we also want you to access your games quicker than ever before. PS4’s “suspend mode” eliminates the load time on your saved game and allows you to immediately return to where you left off by pressing the power button. PlayStation 4’s background downloading and updating capability also allows you to immediately play digital titles as they download, or update the system when the hardware is powered off.
Leveraging PlayStation Network with Gaikai technology, PS4 will make it easier for you to play your favorite games and access content wherever you are. We see PS Vita as the ultimate companion device for PS4 and it’s our long-term vision to make most PS4 games playable on PS Vita, so you can bring your favorite games from the big-screen TV to your PS Vita over Wi-Fi. We’re also introducing a “PlayStation App” for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices that acts as a second screen, allowing for unique gameplay possibilities such as viewing maps during an adventure game or remotely watching friends play during an epic battle—right from a smartphone or tablet.

Okay i have a couple questions, will players be able to use there accounts on the ps4? Will players be able to transfer data if the games are remade from ps1, ps2, ps3 to the ps4? and if so will we be able to keep our trophies?

The machine is looking very promising. Im highly liking the new social features. And im definitely like the option of being able play the game while its downloading.
The graphics is definitely getting a upgrade killzone is looking amazing and fun.

I seriously hope that the sony team doesn’t put grand-theft-auto- on the new generation system slash console because they’ll be losing a very large amount of sony customers due to you all trying to force us to purchase the same exact games and accessories and merchandise and games for the next generation console is an understatement you all will-not keep that many loyal customers due to trying to force us to purchase all of our video games all over again I have PlayStation three games dating back to two thousand and seven so I highly doubt that I will purchase all of my games over to satisfy someone else’s needs or greed no thanks I feel more comfortable with my PlayStation three plus the PlayStation three has-not even reached it’s limitations as of yet so how are you all going to make an announcement about the playstation four knowing that you all will still be bringing out PlayStation three games huh that is a very good question just like the playstation two there are still brand new games that are being created for the playstation two needless to say the playstation two games that are coming out in the playstation network store.
I just can’t believe so many people are supporting this like a bunch of mindless sheep. All this thing’s going to be is Facebook on a console. Don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t want all that forced social networking crap. I just want the old fashioned single player games. Guess my gaming days are coming to a close. So long Sony.

Please include the ability to do full installs of ps4 games like you can on the 360. I love how much quieter, cooler and to a lesser extent quickly/smoothly 360 games load when you can install the games to the hard drive instead of the system constantly reading from the disc.
Well, The future looks bleak if you ask me. They have ruined the controller by using a feature not many want. Why don’t you just convert the Vita into a controller that way people would use the friggin thing. Cloud gaming is a fools playground and I want nothing to do with it. If I can’t have the actual game in my hand then I don’t want it PERIOD! Maybe I’m just too old school for all this so called next gen “Future” we as Gamers have to look forward to. But then again I’ll be turning 40 in a few weeks and may just hang up my controller for good!!!
Okay… this is NOT really about it NOT being backwards compatible so much as it is that Sony will be allowing me to RE-PURCHASE content (if I dont want to waste energy and ONLY have ONE CONSOLE taking up space in my families home) that I already own… to include purchases Sony beleives I will continue to make until the release of the PS4.
If you cant understand how absurd this notion TRULY is then one of two things is what your world exists of:
1) You ARE NOT an actual PS3 user and merely are being given assignment from Lithium to suggest that consumers will be perfectly content paying for media they OUTRIGHT own.
or;
2) You do not pay for your store purchases yourself, from your hard earned monies, and mommy takes good care of her little baby.
The fact is; and even if they block it here ITS EVERWHERE as Sony doesn’t control EVERY place on the internet so feel free, that in order for the PS4 to maintain BC with PS3 content; Sony will have to admit that because of the LV0 exploit; which they ignored for over a year and a half before the 3 Musketeers (detailed how-to by Matheiulh right after the PSN debacle and BEFORE removing our ability to mount CLASS ACTION SUITS) left Sony with one of two paths to follow:
1) Being responible to its consumers and letting us know that in order to continue PS3 playability, we will need AntiVirus and Firewall apps. The LV0 hacking community has released REMOTE CONTROL APPS, they are wokring DILEGENTLY to fake PSN message headers (like when you get an email that says its from your bank and it just aint) and illicit ‘willing’ installation of falsely signed ‘.pup. packages, along with being able to sign ACTUAL Malware codesets with fake PSN certificates.
or;
2) Release the next console and expect us to be happy over the fact that PURCHASES we continue to make will be USELESS on the next console and they will ALLOW US TO RE-PURCHASE our content… if you pay for things out of money you work hard for, and dont work for Lithium in a disguise profile (they are the equivalent of Reputation dot COM, more than basic fulfillment in other words… and BTW its blatantly obvious the what first five posters are all about but thanks for thinking Im a five year old who dont know the difference); this should be COMEPLTELY UNACCEPTABLE.

YES. This is a slap in the face to anyone who has continued to make STORE PURCHASE in good faith that the brand name of Sony will be enough to keep things straight. Yes, you are completely ridiculous in posting that we should just keep TWO CONSOLES PRODUCED IN SUCCESSION or RE-PURCHASE content we already own. We are supposed to be about CONSERVING ENERGY and not having a myriad of devices using power that SHOULD all be able to do the EXACT same thing.
***NOTE: In August/September of 2011; Linux and Kernel dot ORG main servers were discovered to have MULTIPLE INSTANCES of malware (virus code) running rampant for an UNKNOWN number of weeks. As well as someone had been accessing the MAIN SUPER_USER Administrator account. To beleive that the PS3 cant have a virus (being *nux based) is to deny these events actually occured.. which you can search and find out this IS NOT an exaggeration, but mere fact and truth.***
As well, I am working to have a conference call (will know more on Tuesday) with TOP SONY EXECUTIVES via the Sony Listens team to try and help them understand why this, among many problems (Customer Support Abuse being the MAIN issue of discussion), is causing DIRECT harm to both Sony as a brand name as well as trusted manufacturer. If the Lithium member who monitors postings finds it relevant to dismiss and hide this comment; this will be addressed with these Sony Executives.

To reliably game via CLOUD you need a VERY stable internet connection… to experience honest game play. Most arent as fortunate as I am; haing a fibe line ran directly to my home.
Your signal needs to be synchronous… this means the same UP as it is DOWN. This is the biggest place that will show how worhtless this direction is.
One last item, not to take up a whole page cluing Sony in… this is elsewhere as well:
Being a FULL AMD partner and re-seller, I know that this is not about the change in architecture. AMD, for some time now, has perfected something called HARDWARE VIRTUALIZATION LAYER (I hate CHROMES spell checker); and this feature WILL virtualize ANY environment as though its native to it.
To attempt to get us, that have worked with AMD for some time now, to buy this lie… AMD should pull their ENTIRE contract… as you diminish the QUALITY AND GOOD NAME OF AMD!!!
You guys really need to grow up and act responsible for your claims. This is how I discovered it was about the LV0 exploit. Dont EVER try to make my AMD look like the problem AGAIN!

Hi Jack missed you at the conference. Mr. House did a good job though,everyone did. First off THANK YOU Sony for listening to us the gamers, and the developers and all the hard work that went into making the Playstation 4. Also thanks for not showing the console off just yet we need somthing to look forward to at E3. Keep up the good work great conference please don’t focus on 3D leave it alone. So what it’s not backwards compatible keep your PS3. “Imagination is the one weapon In the war against reality” thats a new Playstation tatoo. With the power of the PS4 we can win the war. Microsoft doesn’t have a chance. Thanks again Sony. Now don’t shoot yourself in the foot and put a high price tag.

Great unveiling i think.
Love the upgrades, developer friendly architecture, the true remote play with vita, connections with tablet and smartphones, and the social additions i think are great.
Killzone Shadow Fall, inFamous Second Son, The Witness, Destiny (sounds great), Watch_Dogs all look great. exciting to hear Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3, Battlefield 4 to hear coming to PS4.
Only lamentable thing is the total lack of backward compatiblity, i do hope something is figured out for at least digital bought games.
Besides that, really excited for the PS4.

im sorry sony u have not sold me yet,i mean dont get md wrong it sounds cool how u can usse iphones and tablets to see what im playen and the whole u can turn off ur consol and start from were u left off later kinda has my attention but honestly i think imma just wait till they get bigger hard drives cuz 8 gbs to me is not enough to make me happy now the thing that will def keel me away is two things,1.NO BLU RAY DISC:if there are no blu rays i will not think twice bout buying it and 2. trophies it must have um cuz u have gamer goin in who have TONS AND TONS OF TROPHIE and u take that away its like all that work is gone for nothing and now i am happy to hear u have found away to keep the vita from dying off so thank u and hope u make the vita a good 10-15 year handheld :)

This system is going to be massive not only in the room, but all over. I am excited to see Sony really take themselves and gaming to a level we’ve all been waiting for. You guys have already set a hell of a standard for yourselves. I’m excited to see the store and PSN in general just get better. I realize it’s free(except for Playstation Plus), but I appreciate that Sony is taking a personal interest in making it the best.
I’ve read a lot of comments that say that this isn’t going to have Bluray/DVD capability, and that is very wrong. One: it’s on there list of specifications posted on this site by Sony. Two: they would have to be the biggest idiots in the universe to not put that in the PS4. So, just a little common sense on the obvious.
No backwards comparability no purchase.
I still own my ORIGINAL PS3 because of it’s full backwards compatibility. Think about what that says.
Now I’m not as a stickler as some, backward to PS3 games would be fine, BUT again if I can’t play the Assassin’s Creed series anytime I want, and all the DLC I’ve paid for (and my annual PLUS membership downloads) you can do without my $$$$. I’ll stick with my PS3 till you change you minds, and or switch to Xbox or Onlive.

I am very excited about the new system, but I may wait for them to work all the kinks out before purchasing the PS4. I bought the PS Vita the day it released and unfortunately by the second week it wouldn’t turn on.
Well there are major pros and major cons. Let’s see how this turns out shall we?
