New on Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited

Take a listen to some great new content added to the Music Unlimited service! You can get the entire download on the Sony Entertainment Network blog, but here are this week’s highlights:

Johnny Marr – The Messenger

SEN Update 3-1-2013

Johnny Marr has been a man of many hats for quite some time, pioneering BritPop guitar trends as a founding member of The Smiths, one of the most influential alternative rock bands of their time. As the band dissolved, Marr re-built, joining alongside bands like The Pretenders, The The, Modest Mouse and The Cribs, as well as session guitar and co-writing duties on various albums. While Marr’s distinct style has played a role in all of his creations, he has finally released this long overdue set of songs that are all his own. Despite the somber tone some people take when thinking of The Smiths, Marr’s solo tracks are upbeat, lively and rocking, a nice reflection of everywhere he’s been.

Recommended Track: “Upstarts”

Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell – Old Yellow Moon

SEN Update 3-1-2013

Emmylou Harris has been a subject of influence throughout her career, racking up a whopping 27 albums. Not all of these were solo, however, as Harris has been long sought-after as a collaborative and duet partner for artists like Bob Dylan, Dolly Parton, John Denver and Neil Young. This time, she partners with lesser commercially-known but equally prolific country artist Rodney Crowell (who is married to Roseanne Cash.) Having worked with artists across multiple genres, these two create a sound of eclectic variation, pulling in their experiences while harnessing a very Nashville sound, including a cover of Tim McGraw’s “Open Season of My Heart.”

If You Like: Willie Nelson, Roseanne Cash, John Denver
Recommended Track: “Black Caffeine”

Ivan & Alyosha – All the Times We Had

SEN Update 3-1-2013

In the midst of a dusty, twangy, alt-country resurgence by way of the sleeper hit, “Ho Hey” by The Lumineers, Ivan & Alyosha are poised to follow in the steps of their successful labelmates with an even fuller, harmonized sound. The Seattle-based group has been beating the pavement for years independently, releasing a handful of EP’s before compiling this debut LP. The album features popular songs from those earlier releases, including “Fathers Be Kind,” and “Easy to Love,” as well as stand-out tracks like “Running For Cover” and “The Fold.” Their soaring choruses and multi-layered rock sensibilities have the same charm of their predecessors and a lengthy tour including stops at SXSW guarantees there will be much chatter about them in the months to come.

If You Like: The Lumineers, The Avett Brothers, Blind Pilot
Recommended Track: “The Fold”

  • can you guys bring Motorstorm and Motorstorm Pacific Rift soundtracks to the game music channel? and update the app on android because it dont work.

  • I agree with the first post about motorstorm soundtrack.

And while the iOS app works “ok” it could also use a great deal of improvement!
Sometimes I’m listening to one of the premium channels and after about 6 songs I start hearing the same songs again. Why is this???? Especially when I’m listening to one of the “top 100” channels. I should hear 99 different songs before hearing the first one again.

Also “human” by the killers is nowhere to be found. Only remixes

“Director” the band is nowhere to be found.

I really want u guys to succeed, but I would never pay $10 a month for the current service. I’m glad I got in on the ps+ deal late last year cause currently spotify blows this out of the water for $10 a month.

Please make some improvements. Allow us to have an offline mode like on vita. Add new songs. Improve your search function. Improve your playlists on your channels.

  • HEY MORE MUSIC TO CRANK UP! I LOVE MY SERVICE! THIS REALLY AWSOME!

  • I will be renting and buying movies this month due to the $10 for every $50 promo. I saw extended versions of Harry Potter movies so will pick that up.

  • make available the services for south america too ;)

  • I really wish someone at Sony will help me out here, I haven’t been able to use Music Unlimited on my PS Vita for about 3 weeks now, everytime I click the bubble I get “An error has occured” message. I really need this to work again!!

  • This is the only Sony service/product I have ever regretted spending money on. First the music selection is only decent and I find a missing song quite often. But that not a huge deal.

The main problem I have is the lack of support. When there is literally hundreds of android users the least they could do is test the app. There have been solo many problems with it!
Then servers seem to be down more than up!

I regret spending the $12 for a year and for it being $12 a year that is hard to do.

  • @6 – freshprincepbg

Have you tried deleting the Music Unlimited app and then re installing it again ?

  • Yes @GGCAN, I’ve tried that a dozen times, and I still get the same “An error has occurred” message

  • @GGCAN
I’ve tried those things too. Luckily the vita’s app usually works for me.

Usually they are really good at replying but it appears Sony doesn’t care in the slightest about its music unlimited service. Its a shame, if they aren’t going to support it, they shouldn’t be accepting new customers and refunding those who bought it.

  • I’m having the same issue as @freshprincepbg (#6), though on my PSP (don’t own a Vita, YET). Haven’t been able to access MU for a while now, though I was able to shortly after I purchased the $12/year deal. I thought it was a conspiracy from Sony to force PSP owners to go buy a new Vita, but since his isn’t working either, I don’t know what to think.
