The Drop: Week of March 11th 2013 New Releases

Rey Gutierrez's Avatar + Posted by Rey Gutierrez on Mar 10, 2013 // Senior Social Media Specialist

In this week’s The Drop, vengeance is born in the fires of betrayal in this prequel to the best-selling God of War franchise. Six months have passed since Kratos stood over the bodies of his wife and child, his hands stained with their blood – tricked by Ares into murdering the only people he ever loved. Swearing to avenge them, Kratos broke the blood oath that bound him to Ares, but oaths to Olympus are not so easily broken…

God of War: Ascension – God of War: Ascension returns players to the storyline of the epic God of War franchise. Join Kratos as he seeks freedom, redemption and the clarity to avenge his family. Or seek your own glory in epic 8-player mutliplayer battles.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 – Takes the bulls-eye precision of its best-selling predecessor to new and exciting heights. Powered by CryEngine 3 technology, the missions of Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 are graphically stunning and more challenging as you once again step into the ghillie suit of a special ops sniper to take down the enemy.

Darkstalkers: Resurrection – The beloved Darkstalkers fighting game franchise is back and ready to take the fight to current gen consoles in this double-pack of Darkstalkers games.

Featuring a unique and colorful cast of characters blended with fast-paced fighting action, Darkstalkers Resurrection contains two games (Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge and Darkstalkers 3), for the price of one. Each game has a slew of features added including: robust GGPO-enabled online game play, HD graphical filtering with multiple viewing options, replay sharing, Spectator Mode, in-game achievements, Challenge/Tutorial Mode and an un-lockable vault filled with concept artwork, videos and more.

Quantum Theory – Many years have passed since the world war inflicted catastrophic damage on the human race, leaving only a few survivors. In their new community Cocoon, life has been threatened by a black material called Erosion, creating a post-apocalyptic environment. Surviving humans recruit a militia to conquer the Erosion and set out to take down the evil, Living Tower. Arriving at the scene is the stalwart warrior Syd, whose only intentions are to destroy the Tower. He meets the beautiful and mysterious Filena as they both ascend to the top in their search for answers.

Heavy Fire: Shattered Spear – Heavy Fire: Shattered Spear is the sequel to Heavy Fire: Afghanistan that sends soldiers after a captured spy who holds the plans to a secret Iranian nuclear weapons facility.

Psych Yourself (PSN Exclusive) – Psych Yourself provides the game consumer with a whole new experience,” says Vlad Starzhevsky, CEO of Creat Studios Inc. “Test Yourself was good at testing and training your innate abilities such as Intelligence, Attention Span, Reaction Times and Memory. Psych Yourself goes to the next level, delving into your inner-most psyche and discovering what kind of person you really are.

Puzzle By Nikoli V: Sudoku (PSN Exclusive) – The Puzzle by Nikoli series has come to the PlayStation®Vita, and “Sudoku” is the first installment in the series! All fifty challenges have been carefully designed by Nikolai personally, which ensures that each solution is distinctive and different! Everyone from novices to experts is sure to lose themselves in this immersive puzzle world.

  • Army of Two: The Devil Cartel

PlayStation 2 Classics

Kessen II – Become a Chinese general and conquer the world in Kessen II from Koei. Players plan out strategies, then watch as armies carry out their orders in real time. The tale of two warring Chinese generals, Liu Bei and Cao Cao, sets the stage for war in a scenario similar to the background of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms saga. Magic will play a part in the action: lightning, tornados, and earthquakes can all be summoned to wreak havoc among enemy troops.

Of course I’m psyched about God of War. Release date delivery from Amazon.

I’d really like to see Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops on Vita. Also, digital versions of God of War 3 and Metal Gear Solid 4.

@11 Nick930930, Isn’t the purpose of buying a vita to play on the go or away from home? I agree that dragon needs to stop being annoying about everything but i would like to have Crash supported on Vita as it is a great classic that doesn’t take up that much space on the memory card. They do have a bunch of support on crappy “minis” I can’t understand why they can’t support their own “in house” games.

@54 Crash and Spyro haven’t been in-house games for quite some time. Activision owns the rights to both of them at the moment.

@55 I’m not referring to Crash as in Crash and Spyro, I’m talking about Crash as in Crash Bandicoot.

+ breathe2day on March 10th, 2013 at 9:07 pm said:

@58 actually crash bandicoot is no longer owned by naughtydog they sold the character to nintendo and nintendo has made the game into complete crap.

Spyro kinda fell off after ps2 but i would love to see the ps 2 versions on psn as it was a fun game.

Kessen II??? Brah, that game was weak then and is weak now. Im finding it hard to understand what a “classic” PSN title is. Do they mean a game that sold thousands or millions of copies and was loved by the community, or just an old as game? Cause thats what Kessen II is to me ~_~ Lookin forward to tryin out that AO demo though

Ok seriously how can a Sony flagship title not be day 1 digital that just makes no sense. It really does make one question who is setting this up who’s running the show and why they make the decisions they make.

+ D_R_O_Z on March 10th, 2013 at 9:26 pm said:

Sorry, Just read about that…I use to play PS1 when I was younger and hadn’t followed or played video games until just recently …. what was Sony/Naughty Dog thinking? I know they later created Jak and Daxter (and then Uncharted). Crash was like the Mario of the PlayStation world (only I thought it was better than Mario). That could have been one of the titles that appealed to the younger gamers and pulled them from Nintendo, instead you sell it to a company that basically sells it exclusively to you competition.

Mr. Rey Gutiterez, you made a little misprint on the Psone section of the drop. MotorHead was never released in Japan (which means it really isn’t a psone import), so it’s likely that this verison of the game is the North America verison.

Okay people quit whining about Digital copies mkay. Yeah they can be cool and I use them if I cant make it to a store, if its a hard to find game, or its a digital exclusive game but physical copies are much more fun to collect and store on your shelf and unlike digital copies you dont have the illusion of ownership thier really yours to do with what you want.

Also I agree Id love to see Crash and Spyro on my Vita but id much rather they focus on making cool new games and reveal what that stupid port on the top is for lol.

Over all pretty cool Drop definetly want Darkstalkers Ressurection

And what the hell’s up with the imports?! Most of them are so japanese text-heavy that are borderline unplayable by most american gamers, since they’re mostly dating sims and strategy RPG’s. Seroiusly SCEA, THINK things through for once…

Maybe Sony has a minimum order quantity contract with one of the retailers, providing they delay digital release.

Or maybe they want to ensure PS3 longevity, by assuming that replacing physical copies with digital PS4 downloads will cost too much for some, so that people would choose to keep their PS3′s, and hey, why not just keep buying games for them….HA!

Or maybe, they KNOW that people will replace with the DL for PS4, thus ensuring a further revenue line down the road.

Really sad that God of War Ascension isn’t going to be Day 1 Digital. I have the money in my wallet but cannot afford to buy retail for a few weeks. Hopefully Sony can change their mind and add GoWA to D1D at the last minute like they did with Tomb Raider. Really want to buy this game. At least I can buy Bioshock Infinite if GoWA doesn’t come to D1D. Please Sony, make GoWA D1D since it is a first party title and should be easy for you to do. I really want to support Sony and Santa Monica Studios right away instead of waiting until next month. Thanks!

Definitely picking up Darkstalkers if the price is reasonable (while ignoring Capcom’s staggeringly overpriced DLC for stuff that should already be in the game and ends up costing far more than the game itself, even with “package deals”, regardless of how much the original item costs. Ultimate MvC3 and the practically pay-to-buy-and-also-play SFxT, anyone?). I’ve spent lots of quality time with my longtime friends Morrigan and Lilith. Lilith admittedly moreso.

“@1 What? you’re an idiot?!?!?! OF COURSE YOU ARE”

“@1, They work via remote play. Otherwise… why is it so important you play a 90s video game portably? Just play it on your PS3 and stop being a baby about it.”

Well, I apologize deeply for enjoying an old game that you find unimportant. I regret to inform you that some people tend to get enjoyment out of games that aren’t the latest version of Generic FPS 9000 Multiplayer Online. Also, JP and EU have those games on the Vita, so why can’t the US?

Thinking of getting Resurrection but hows it’s gameplay, 4 button or 6 button attacks?
Is there anymore DmC : Devil May Cry , Re6, and or Dragons Dogma dlc coming out because those versus multiplayer dlcs for Re6 looked god awful boring and i refuse to pay $2 for 10 quests out of 100 (when it was disk-locked content anyways) and Virgil’s Downfall, although fun, was really short.
