The Drop: Week of April 8th 2013 New Releases

Cross-Buy Guacamelee! for PS3 and PS Vita on PSN this week. Guacamelee! draws its inspiration from traditional Mexican culture and folklore, and features many interesting and unique characters. The game also blurs the boundaries between combat and platforming by making many of the moves useful and necessary for both of these.

The game features a down on his luck Mexican named Juan Aguacate, who sets out to save the world when El Presidente’s Daughter is kidnapped by an Evil Charro Skeleton. The story takes place in and around a small village in Mexico, and has the player travelling between parallel dimensions on his quest to rescue the girl he loves.

Enjoy this week’s The Drop.

Guacamelee!

(Cross-Buy PS3/PS Vita) — Guacamelee is a Metroidvania style game with a light world/dark world component where you play as a luchador. The game can be played entirely cooperatively with the first player controlling Juan and the second playing a woman known as Tostada. The combat consists of melee attacks, as the name suggests, such as punches, grapples and throws. There are also other moves you learn to help traverse the environment such as uppercuts, ground pounds and turning into a chicken. The switching between the light and dark worlds is done on the fly and is used in both combat and traversal.

XCOM_Enemy_Unknown_Game_CoverXCOM: Enemy Unknown — XCOM: Enemy Unknown will place you in control of a secret paramilitary organization called XCOM. As the XCOM commander, you will defend against a terrifying global alien invasion by managing resources, advancing technologies, and overseeing combat strategies and individual unit tactics.

The original X-COM is widely regarded as one of the best games ever made and has now been re-imagined by the strategy experts at Firaxis Games. XCOM: Enemy Unknown will expand on that legacy with an entirely new invasion story, enemies and technologies to fight aliens and defend Earth. You will control the fate of the human race through researching alien technologies, creating and managing a fully operational base, planning combat missions and controlling soldier movement in battle.

Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X — Set in conceived version of the future inspired by the best-selling Tom Clancy videogame franchises, this flight combat action game imagines a world where a private military force has cumulated such power that it attacks the USA. Thrust into the cockpits of incredibly powerful and technologically advanced jet fighters, gamers will benefit from hi-tech piloting assistance, providing comfort, security and enhanced perception. As players gain skills and confidence, they will be able to shed the assistance. But before choosing performance over security, they’ll have to weigh the risks carefully.

John Daly’s Prostroke Golf — John Daly’s ProStroke Golf is an interactive game with a number of fully licensed courses and five different play modes. Put the ball in play with the revolutionary design and realistic physics of ProStroke View and Prostroke Swing!

Table Mini Golf (PS Vita) — Table Mini Golf is a bite-sized game with monster-sized scope – you’ll use the AR Play cards to construct dozens of mini-golf courses across most flat surfaces of your choosing, and then pick one of three stylish characters to show off your putting skills in style.

Fatal_Frame_CoverartPlayStation 2 Classic

Fatal Frame — An isolated imposing manor lurking silently at the edge of a forest and near the outskirts of a small nameless village? Such is the starting point for this game which reinvents the survival horror genre. • Everyone is bringing up a good point about the lack of any SS demo so close to the games release. All I can say is they better not make the demo available after the actual full game comes out.

In regards to this drop though, I’ve been waiting to play Guacamelee for so long and it’s finally here! It’s one PSN game I can say for sure (for a long time now) that I’m buying and then playing it on day one. However what I’m looking most forward to is playing Guacamelee like the Metroidvania’s of old!!! It’s about time that someone made a quality game worthy of SotN or the classic Metroids.

Anyways, more people should be excited about Guacamelee… yes the SS demo is not out (YET)… but lets at least get excited about what I’m sure will be one of the best PSN games in a long while.

  • Aside from Guacamelee! looking quite fun, every Vita owner who enjoyed Mutant Blobs Attack for free via IGC should show Drinkbox some love and buy it just for that!

  • WHAT?! FATAL FRAME?! PS2 CLASSIC?!!

My demands have been answered! Gods be praised!

Bring on FATAL FRAME II: CRIMSON BUTTERFLY!!
    Bring on FATAL FRAME III!!!

Sorry for the caps, I really am excited that it’s coming tomorrow!

  • Guacamelee is tempting, but it seems like every time I buy a PSN game on day one for full price, it’s offered free or heavily discounted on PS+ just a few months later. Unless there’s a day-one PS+ discount on this, I’m gonna have to wait it out.

  • FATAL FRAME!!!!! yes iv been dieing to play this.

  • Sweet, finally can force myself to play Fatal Frame, also thought Fatal Frame couldnt be released on PSstore because Nintendo owns 50% of the IP or something.

  • Adding my voice for having the rest of the Fatal Frame games on PSN, or better yet, releasing it as an HD remake on PS3.

Aside from that, there are a few other games I’m dying to see re-released:

    – Shadow Hearts series (Azure / Midway)
    – Contra Shattared Soldier (Konami)
    – Suikoden series (Konami)
    – Vandal Hearts 1 & 2 (Konami)

If Sony could somehow convince Azure and Konami to release these games on the US PSN store, I would be so happy lol.

  • i mean seriously, one actual vita game a month . is that asking too much Sony? its been like this since it came out!

  • Guacamole looks fun. If it’s $10 or less I’ll grab it.

Speaking of $10, when can we expect the $10 voucher for spending $50 last month?

Any word on when we can play our Clash Bandicoot 1-3 on the Vita?

  • Hey, Fatal Frame sounds good, I would like
    DRAGON QUEST VIII
    please, I love this game

  • @12 Yes, Fatal Frame’s box is creepy, but so is the game. If you have never played it, play it at night. Turn the lights out. Put on the surround sound. And get an extra change of pants.

  • @61 Last time I played a Fatal Frame game (the wii remake of 2 that I had to import) I learned its best to somehow just get your tv in a bathroom when playing it

  • ??? Where is Soul Sacrifice Demo T^T

  • My plea to gamers.
Please , please , please support Cross-Buy games. As a gamer for over well near 30 years, there is no other videogame service that offers you this kind of innovation. You pay once for the title on the ps3 and you get it also on the Vita. Even if you dont own a Vita now, you will still be entitled to it in the future if needed.
These are the kind of gamer supported offerings that you do not see in this dog eat dog, money hungry videogame business.
You’e supported $60 titles, you’ve supported re-purchasing titles in HD remakes, you’ve supported over priced DLC and you’ve even supported fighting game character color swaps as paid DLC. …..
Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper, Sound Shapes, Retro City Rampage, all great PSN cross-Buy titles and now we get the awesome Guacamelee.
Lets put our money on things that matter most to us gamers, lets show support to publishers that are willing to give back a little something to us gamers. Support Cross-Buy titles.
    As always, Keep on Gaming.

  • Oooo, Fatal Frame is niiiiice

  • Hi @Rey Gutierrez I wanted to know if the North American PSN will ever put up a Soul Sacrifice demo for the Vita? Other Vita owner like me are really looking forward to this game and a demo will be a great way to show others what the vita has to offer. Thank You 4 reading my post.

  • o another question. are vita owners going to get jipped for ps+ again this week…not that i ever download the psp games, but not even one of those jeez

  • Fatal frame? Nice! Now there’s a franchise that would suit the Vita real nice should there ever be a new game or even just an HD remake compilation.

  • Guacamelee looks fun and all, and i support cross purchase stuff for sure, but i wonder why some of the items i have purchased for my PSP are not available on my PSVITA yet? i have seen them in differnt regions, but Crash Bandicoot and Angry Birds are not North America PSVITA ready!?! i see four PS1 fishing games , but none of our favorite bandicoot. why Sony why?????

  • X-COM is a must have, everyone get it.

Guacamelee! is a no brainer, will buy it with the force of one thousand suns.

  • @64

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

  • Xcom is good. not saying it isn’t. But it is overrated. There are better, more balanced, less LUCK based strategy games. People are going nuts over Xcom because their hasn’t been a great turn based strategy game in a long time. I played Xcom and loved it but it just made want to play other strategy games more rather than play through xcom a 2nd time. I bought Front Mission 3 for the Vita and beat that game for the 4th time and enjoyed it more than Xcom the 1st time. Ogres Tactic, FF tactics, etc. etc.
I really think Xcom is based on TOO much luck. If you play on harder difficultly level, it doesn’t matter how good a player you are, bad luck, and your game is over. I don’t mind the permanent death. I think that is awesome. I mind that total 100% random luck and you can loose your entire team. I know luck is involved to some degree in a strategy game, but strategy should take precedence. If you are a good player and a good strategists you should be able to beat the harder difficulty levels. Just google it online most players its takes 6, 7, even 10 tries just to get to the end, and they all say the same thing in their guides, you just have to get lucky. No thank you.

  • Been waiting for Guacamelee! for quite some time… can’t wait to play it.
As for XCOM, it has been confirmed for iOS and using a touchscreen to play it seems more fun than a controller.
Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X is not my type of game.
I have Fatal Frame already for my ps2
And those ps1 games are stupid.

  • digital copy of sniper elite v2 would be nice, also conflict: global terror for ps2 classic please and thank you.

  • I love to see Clock Tower 3 by Capcom next week. ^_*

  • STILL no Crash or Spyro on Vita, I see.

  • WOOOOW FATAL FRAME AWESOME I BUY THIS WEEK

  • WOOOOW FATAL FRAME AWESOME I sure BUY THIS WEEK

  • would really like to play o-jam & Earl on ps vita

  • toe-jam & Earl

  • Just waiting for my PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale DLC…

  • Pretty disappointing week, guess I’ll replay Tomb Raider, Playstation Allstars, Tales of Graces f, or some good ol Arkham City

  • Totally looking forward to Guacamelee!, but I think that might be it for me this week, unless PS+ has some amazing sales/discounts.

And like a few others have said, if it can really be platted in 10 hours, not sure I want to pay $15. I’d go as high as $12, or $15 with a PS+ discount would probably hit that tipping point for me. $10 would be too good to be true, and would warrant an insta-purchase with no regrets even if it gets discounted later or added to the IGC. That game is going to be awesome.

  • I’m going to buy Guacamelee! :)

  • @31: They won’t be on PSN. There’s licensing issues with both. So absorb the information and pass it along when fellow ignorants whine about it. Tired of people complaining about it.

  • Also, you guys really DO need to put out the Soul Sacrifice demo soon. BEFORE release… there’s plenty of content to work through in the demo, and the save moves over to the final game. Get with it SCEA.

  • Fatal Frame is one of those PS2 games that I wanted to play but never got a chance to do so. Might get it now.

  • When will we get the Soul Sacrifice demo???????????

  • Hope to see a blog post discussing those imports

  • Why isn’t the Soul Sacrifice demo released yet?

  • Fatal Frame is awesome and a must buy for any horror fan! Thank you! Now just bring 2 and 3 to the store… or even better, an HD Classics with all three on disk?? I hate to beg but I would for this!! ;-)

  • Guacamelee! and Fatal Frame for me.

  • fine is there any way we can ge dragon ball z t shin budokai another road that was on psp or dragon ball z budokai 3 hd on psvita please i need a dbz game on my psvita.

  • @Elvick
No one knows the reason they’re not on PSN. Don’t make stuff up if you’re not even aware of what’s going on. It only makes you seem like the ignorant whiner.

If licensing was such an issue for FINAL FANTASY GAMES, then why is every single one on PSN?? Including PSP games. Let’s not even speak of KH Birth By Sleep for a second. Answer me about Crisis Core. Since you’re basically an all knowing God, let us in on your knowledge.

Don’t be that person who tries to sound like they know what they’re talking about and they’re sick of people “whining.”

New flash, it’s not whining when you’re legitimately asking about something. And guess what? Me, and a few others will be here asking every week until we get some answers.

Oh, and don’t pull that thing to blame it on Square. Sony and Square have great relationships and they can easily ask for information. Square does the same thing Sony does. And that’s staying silent.

  • OMG, Fatal Frame?!? This just made my week! Now all that is missing is the other two Fatal Frames.

  • Getting Guacamelee for sure. Surprised to see Fatal Frame on PSN, I heard alot about the series but never played it before. Might get that as well so that we get the rest of the series on PSN.

  • @59

April 12 for the $10 back from spending $50 on PSN.

  • So psyched for Guacamelee!

  • Capcom VS SNK would be an instant buy, for PS3 and Vita.

  • Fatal Frame… Good.

No Soul Sacrifice demo? …oh well… I’ll still get the game. Only thing that scares me is some companies won’t pre-release a demo because a game sucks and they want to garner more day one sales.

Guacamelee! better be good or I’m blaming EVERYONE that has posted about it since its conception.
