Coming later this evening is the next system software update for PS Vita. We’ve listened to your feedback and have included many improvements to make your PS Vita experience much more enjoyable, such as adding a new folder system that allows you to organize your games and apps.
Here’s a look at some of the new enhancements you can expect with software update v.2.10:
- Create folders to more easily manage your favorite application icons on the home screen, with up to 10 icons in each folder and a maximum of 100 on the home screen (including icons inside the folders).
- Verify which PS Vita card you are using by looking at the home screen’s info bar. You can also save the layout of your home screen icons in the memory card.
- Added video support allows you to play videos within the browser (memory card required; some videos are not supported).
- New email enhancements allows you to view HTML messages, add multiple email addresses to your contacts, and easily search your messages using the new search feature.
- PlayStation Plus members will be able to automatically update PlayStation Mobile format software and upload game save data onto online storage using 3G connection.
- New “Mute Automatically” option will mute your PS Vita speakers when your headset is unplugged and pause your music when using the music app.

Great update, and finally, its been like half a year since the Vita got a tune up. One thing that yall could add on the next update is a pdf reader, I think that would be much appreciated.Also if there was a way to add themes to the vita, such as how the bubbles look and the ui feel it would be a plus. Also assistive touch would be cool, and a copy paste option is really needed on the system, its logic. Other than that great update.
Bundle a Vita with PS4
About time we got folders, but only 10 icons per folder? What the balls, Sony? Even if you want to keep it to just one screen per folder, look at that screenshot. Go on, look at it. There’s room for at least 6 more icons (three on each side), and you could fit another row of 6 icons at the bottom if you moved everything currently there up towards the top of the screen. Limiting folders to just 10 icons doesn’t really make them any more useful than adding another new page to the LiveArea in the first place.
Also, please fix the backwards compatibility issues (AKA give us the damn games we’ve paid for in the past instead of holding them back from the Vita store for no reason) so we have stuff to fill our folders with.

Can you guys please make folders within the Music, Video, and Photo applications? It’s such a hassle finding everything, especially in photos and music. I have to search through 200 songs to find a certain track to play. Also, can you please lift the lock on the ps vita cards with the system. I have PSOne games on my brother’s PSN account that I want to transfer to my PlayStation Vita which is linked to MY PSN account. We both have a US account, it’s very irritating. I don’t want to have to spend alot of money to relive my childhood. Please Sony, I’ve been with you guys since the PSOne days and I know that you guys will pull through.

i really hope they add the ability to activate a second user/psnaccount on a vita .. im really waiting for it. so i dont have to buy vita games twice, for me and my wife/kids.
I hope some day sony puts a system like ps3, so we can change btwen accounts, because i have a girlfriend who play on my vita too and its disgusting lost all data :s, and i cant say anything becuse she gonna hit me, so she can use his acount whit out problems, implement some kind or activation for that pls!

It’s not a hardware limitation either because the screen auto dims when it is idle so it is a SOFTWARE LIMITATION! Please I am begging you guys!! Please let us lower the screen brightness even further so we can play comfortably at night.

love the update, but what I would really love to see on the vita:
the ability to check messages without getting disconnected from your game! A friend will send me a message after a game in Allstars, but I can’t check the message without kicking him from the lobby.
Multitasking would be the best update ever.

Things that I would like to see on future updates but will never see:
1 – Allow us to have multiple accounts from different regions on the Vita, just like we do on the PS3. I’d love to purchase content and games from other regions without the hassle of having to swap cards and wait several minutes. This would make for an even better portable experience.
2 – Implement PS2 classics on the Vita. One of the major features of the PSP was its ability to play PSX. We now have a portable console that is more than capable of emulating PS2, and the PS2 is the most successful console of all times. This is a no-brainer. Allow us to play classics on the go, do not limit this option just because you want to sell HD collections. Sony consoles had the strongest gaming catalog of all time, and it is a huuuge waste of potential not to allow the Vita to play PS2, just as it was an idiotic idea to take the backwards compatibility from the PS3.
These two things would make the Vita the perfect portable gaming machine for me. I was severely disappointed when it was announced that my dream of playing PS2 on the go was not going to be fulfilled by the Vita.
Still a 100 app limit? Are you kidding me? You totally missed half the point of why folders were wanted. People with a lot of games and stuff are hampered by the 100 app limit (Well more like 80 after the required icons). Maybe 100 wouldn’t be so bad if retail games didn’t install bubbles too and if saves were not absurdly tied into the bubbles. But as is (And probably even then) it is a crippling feature wrecking this system. Can’t even have apps like YouTube, PSP games, PS1 classics, minis and mobile games on mine because of it. Please address this very annoying problem soon and not completely miss the point of why a lot of people wanted folders. Especially those of us that have purchased every North American release and would like to just have our game icons and PSN games installed and not need to constantly transfer games to the PC to not lose save data, uninstall the game and then install the new game. I used to look forward to new Vita releases but now it is a matter of having to figure out what game I will have to eventually play later since I won’t be able to play it with the app limit when I get a new game and creates annoyance rather than enjoyment.
Does this mean the Email App has also been fixed? When ever I delete mail, then update (in APP), the mail deleted returns…

uncharted golden abyss looked amazing and it was under 5 megabytes what if you had 150 megabyte memory cards and the games were 15 to 25 megabytes.

i see via the web that the new update has gone live for north America and Europe gets it some time tomorrow. BUT when do’s south America get it ? i just tried to update my vita and there is nothing there yet.

This isbgreat and all but could you pmease release an update that allows use f buttons for browsing like the ps3 does?
I’m happy with the progress of the Vita OS. Here are some requests that I have off the top of my head:
– Get the Mail app to work with Apple iCloud email (@mac.com, @me.com, @icloud.com).
– Vita themes, like PS3 themes where the icons are customized and backgrounds, dynamic themes, etc.
– Hulu App. You announced it at E3 I believe it was last year? Where is it?
– UI uniformity between PS4 and Vita. Even if this means a complete overhaul of the Vita OS.
– Allow us to post status updates to our friends list. Like in the Friends activity section of the Friends App Live Area.
– PS2 game compatibility on Vita.
– Crash Bandicoot PS1 game compatibility on Vita.

Like being able to put apps/games into folders, makes it easier to organize.
Additional features that we would like are:
Ability to have the games have the same automatic uploading of save game data, like we can on the PS3 and it would be amazing to have an ability to see the active notifications in the lock/clock screen when you turn the vita on from standby.

Nice, that’s pretty awesome.. Now, if we could only get some GAMES for this $300.00 paperweight. I love my vita, but I can’t help but feel it’s failing. If it wasn’t for cross buy, I’m afraid it would have already. Sony, do what you must.. Make some shadowy back-alley deals or something. Just please, don’t leave your handheld customers wondering if their purchase was such a good idea.
Just walk into a Gamestop, or any retailer and look at the Vita game section. It’s pathetic. :(

Just tested the icon limit on my maxed out card. Put those useless icons in a folder and copied some minis to the system and….
Same useless message and no minis to play.

This is perfect! Every week I browse the Playstation blog for PS Plus updates on my Vita, and it is so nice to be able to watch streaming videos! Ans thanks so much for the folder capability.
Nice update! Folders are great, and the cartridge icon is a nice addition as well.
Umm, how do you delete folders? how do you remove items from a folder?
I am SO glad to see which Vita card I have inserted without having to take it out. I’ve always wanted this, but never expected it would actually be a feature. Folders are another feature I didn’t expect and am glad to have. This is a great update – thank you
@199 You drag the bubbles out of the folder. Last bubble out of the folder, deletes the folder.
So when does it go live? This update seems pretty cool
