PS Vita System Software Update (v.2.10)

Don Mesa's Avatar Posted by on Apr 09, 2013 // Director, Product Planning & Platform Software Innovation, SCEA

Coming later this evening is the next system software update for PS Vita. We’ve listened to your feedback and have included many improvements to make your PS Vita experience much more enjoyable, such as adding a new folder system that allows you to organize your games and apps.

PS Vita v2.10: Folders

Here’s a look at some of the new enhancements you can expect with software update v.2.10:

  • Create folders to more easily manage your favorite application icons on the home screen, with up to 10 icons in each folder and a maximum of 100 on the home screen (including icons inside the folders).
  • Verify which PS Vita card you are using by looking at the home screen’s info bar. You can also save the layout of your home screen icons in the memory card.
  • Added video support allows you to play videos within the browser (memory card required; some videos are not supported).
  • New email enhancements allows you to view HTML messages, add multiple email addresses to your contacts, and easily search your messages using the new search feature.
  • PlayStation Plus members will be able to automatically update PlayStation Mobile format software and upload game save data onto online storage using 3G connection.
  • New “Mute Automatically” option will mute your PS Vita speakers when your headset is unplugged and pause your music when using the music app.

Can someone help me? I updated my Vita this morning and Facebook doesn’t work anymore…I deleted, installed again and the problem continues….It starts but it doen’t show anything…just the three bars keep shaking endlessly….

Folders are a great addition. But why can’t we change the background image of the folder? Or am I missing something?

Aha,Fantastic! Thank you for this update.

+ CommandingTiger on April 10th, 2013 at 12:35 pm said:

First thing:
I saw one of the coolest thing, called and eyefly for iPhones. It’s a screen protector that allows you to see stereoscopic 3D.
Best thing is, it’s only 35$, It would be cool if were on the Vita.

+ CommandingTiger on April 10th, 2013 at 12:43 pm said:

Second: New PS Vita models

Here’s what I would suggest in order to boost sales of the Vita.

It definatly needs a 50$ price cut (See how much it’s selling in Japan)
But the PS Vita cost a lot to produce.

The most expendable pice of equipment you can remove, wich is also one of the most expensive piece, is the OLED screen.
Sure, it can display a better image, but most people
A-Do not want to spend tremendous amount of money on fancy new expensive technology.
B-Won’t notice much of a difference between the two. I have a PSP-2000, a PSP Go and a Vita. I see much difference between the 2000 Go and Vita, but between the Go and the Vita’s screen, they both look great there isn’t much of a difference except cost-wise$$.
It can easily be replaced by an LCD/LED touch screen.

So, I would market a Basic PS Vita.
Same as the Vita, but with an LCD/LED screen instead. And a price of 200$.
That price can then be reduced to like 175$ for special promotions or 150$ for black friday/boxing day.

+ CommandingTiger on April 10th, 2013 at 12:43 pm said:

Then another Vita, new and Improved for the same 250$.
May add the eyefly that /i spoke earlier, (Of course, evalute the option first)
Keep: OLED Touchscreen like before
-HDMI port
-Better Mega-Pixel for the back camera (don’t mind to reduce the frame-rate from 120fps to 60fps)

I’ve seen a patten of an improved Vita with even more features, I hope it happens this year.

This PSVita would remain at 250$. A “deluxe” package with all the bells and whisles.

For thoses who had a Vita, it could be an opportunity to improve to a better model (while being able to resell his old 1)

+ CommandingTiger on April 10th, 2013 at 12:43 pm said:

Third Thing:

I figured out that the front touchscreen is not properly aligned with the back touchpad.
When creating games (and playing) it would be much better is both of them were on the exact same place, in order to do that, the PS Vita logo would need to be at the top instead of the bottom.

That, also, is an improvement that cpould be brought to the next Vita models.

Last things, I heard that all PS4 games would be compatible via remote play with the PS Vita.
Please make it happen.
Also heard that Gaikai would be able to stream PS4 games on the PS Vita.
Please also make that happen.
Sony annonced 1-touch interaction between every Sony device from Smartphones and TVs and Players.
Make it happen to the PS Vitas ans PS4s as well.

+ RoyBM on April 10th, 2013 at 1:08 pm said:

would be very awesome if you allowed us to add a custom bubble icon to the folders we create instead of just showing the bubbles inside.
Guess anything that would allow more customization to the Vita would be welcomed :)
Thank you for the update though, its much more organized!

GREAT FIRMWARE UPDATE! Now if only Sony could release a higher capacity memory card… preferably 64GB or GREATER… running out of space on my 32GB.

+ valquail on April 10th, 2013 at 3:27 pm said:

I updated as normal and my FIFA football game was left in the slot, as it normally is when I update. However after the update was complete I tried to open the game but if wouldn’t let me. I see a few other people have had this problem on various games. There is a small blue icon next to the time which I believe represents the game card. If anybody knows a solution to this problem please let me know. Thankyou. Good update otherwise.

thanks for the update. i like the folder option, automatic mute, and the html5 video its easier for me to oganize my games app without having them all over the place. the automatic mute botton made a world of a difference for me because half the time my music is just blastin whenever im at a library or other quiet places. and for that im satisfied. for the next few updates can u give us the option of setting any website as our homepage. it still lacks that. we need a folder option for music because the playllist is not working to well. last time i was using it for some reason when my vita froze i had to rebuild the data base and it deleted the playlist, but the songs were still there and i had to redo the playlist again. also we need to listen to music while playing psp and psvita games. its only available to some games but not all. more enhancement on the html5 video support and websites working more effectively would be nice. is there by any chance you guys come up with like a 64GB memory card. it would be awsome for everyone to put in more games music and more. again i greatly appriciate the update and im gonna be looking for more and better future updates.

Now we need to pester Sony nonstop to give us bigger memory cards and lower the price of all of them to no more than $1 per GB. The pricing is still ridiculously high for the memory cards.

Browser speed is pretty good now but could be also improved as well.

Thanks for your releasing the update though!

Hey Don Mesa,

Congratulations on the newly released update. It brings so many improvements, as well as, amazing features. Thanks :)

One question though, when will the duplicates messages issue on PS3 be addressed? I believe this is an issue that concerns everyone.

awesome update on the folders! not so awesome that the streaming fails to work on MOST standard streaming sites due to the lack of flash support… since you know, like EVERY site uses flash video.

CommandingTiger you got some good idea’s dude. :) Maybe their can do it for the 9th Generation handheld model or PS Vita 2.

If their do make 9th Generation handheld or PS Vita 2; I hope this time around it packs 5 inch 3D OLED Screen 960 x 544 qHD @ 220 ppi 16:9 touchscreen, 4 Core CPU and GPU still but with 4GB Memory that is share between RAM and VRAM. Super Battery Life so the handheld can last longer maybe like full day or two without charging it. Better Wi-Fi 3 x 3 then 1 x 1; webcam of 1.5MP then 0.3MP (that works in low light). CPU can be Cortex A57 @ 1.6GHz while the GPU is PowerVR 6 IP G6630+ @ 600MHz. Way better 2 × Analog sticks that can click for the L3 and R3 (The one’s on Vita right now feel cheap and easy to break if push to hard) and use LiveArea still but upgrade version way better then the old one call it “LiveArea+” then.

part 1

+ jose213jose on April 10th, 2013 at 9:12 pm said:

Everything else is still the same from old model of Vita to its next gen one to come some day or not. No 3G or 4G model at all if people have Cell Phone that can give off Wi-Fi off their Cell Phone then no need for 3G or 4G model at all. It can still use the old PS Vita cards inside the new one and play all the old games still sense its using the same OS but upgrade.

Well that’s if it does happen or not; i’m sure PS Vita was Sony last handheld their plan to make i think.

Part 2

We can save our icons and layouts on the memory cards now? YEEEEEEEEESSSS!!!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOOOOOOOOOU!!!! Now I can buy another memory without worrying about rearranging layouts and icons when I switch them. I’m going wait until after E3. Just in case they drop the prices, or hopefully, release a 64GB memory card. 32GB is not much for holding a lot of Vita games. Those games or averaging about 2 to 3 GBs a piece.

Wow people are actually complaining about the specs of the Vita?? Sony is generally always has there head, ahead of the hardware game and the Vita is no exception. There is NOTHING wrong with the Vita’s specs. Besides a bit longer battery life, It just needs more great games and larger, more cheaper memory cards. Anyway, update is well welcomed! Thank god for the folders and game card indicator.

I am running out of space on my memory card. I think it would be cool if you were able to transfer your downladed psvita games to the ps4 and when you fill like playing downloaded psvita games you could acces them via remote play. Instead of using your vita’s memory stick you are using your ps4’s hdd space.

Wipeout 2048 won’t run since the update, not tried any other games… I would rather have a console that ran the games that I have paid money for rather than one which allows me to properly organise the icons of the games that I can no longer play…

Sony please revert this firmware update until you have fixed it.

Hi guys. After the update to 2.10, my front touch screen is not working properly. Is anyone having the same problem?
I already restored my settings and it didn’t work.
I hope they can fix it in case anyone else is having issues with this new update.

Thank you.
