You may be familiar with Telltale’s episodic games like The Walking Dead or the recently announced series The Wolf Among Us, but I’m here today to discuss the latest game that we’ve been working on — Telltale Games’ Poker Night 2. We got some of the best characters from film, television and video games to sit down at our table to play a few hands of Hold ‘Em and Omaha. On top of that, the game is bursting with unlockable content: you can unlock new decks, chips and felts, which can cause the Inventory (the venue for the game’s chicanery) to take on a whole new look. You’ll even unlock items outside of the game.

But first, let’s talk about the characters you’ll be facing at the table. To your immediate left looms Brock Samson, the (former) bodyguard to the Venture Family from Adult Swim’s Venture Bros. This guy just oozes cool, but don’t think about stealing his chips, because he has a license to kill and he’s not afraid to use it. He literally plays his cards close the chest, so it’ll be tough to bluff him out of pot, but let him win a couple of hands and his overconfidence could be his downfall. If you manage to unlock the Venture Bros chips, deck, and felt and you’ll get to see Brock on a version of his home turf, clad in his favorite Hawaiian shirt.

Next to Brock we have Claptrap, from Borderlands. He may seem innocent and naïve to the world, but he’s secretly a very skilled poker player, and he’ll take your money if you give him the chance. Anyone on Pandora knows that you never head into combat alone, so Claptrap brought a couple of allies. Flanked by his best buddy Steve (Heyo!), you better hope that his infatuation with GLaDOS blinds him to your poker strategy. He even managed to drag Moxxi along to help serve as bartender. Unlock all of the Borderlands in-game items and the inventory will get the “Moxxxi’s” treatment, complete with music from Borderlands 2. Claptrap may even dress up for the occasion…

After Claptrap we have our next competitor, Ash Williams from Army of Darkness. The tournament almost started without him, but we were able to pull him away from killing Deadites to play a few hands of poker with us. He won’t go anywhere without his trusty boomstick and chainsaw, and luckily his prosthetic hand is working well enough (more or less) to handle his chips — and the occasional drink. Purchase the Army of Darkness poker chips, deck and felt, and step into a world of your worst nightmares… or that just might be a fog machine adding to the atmosphere.

Finally, on the far right of table sits Sam, from the Sam and Max series. Max was in the first Poker Night tournament, so Sam had to see what all the fuss was about. While Sam seems to be the calmer of the two, he’s not adverse to waving around his enormous revolver to get a reaction, or a totally inappropriately sized bet. And when he’s wracked with indecision, Max is right there with him at the Inventory, ready to give terrible advice at a moment’s notice. Unlock Sam’s poker items to give the Inventory a noir makeover, with Sam dressed in his best tuxedo to match.

New to Poker Night is the addition of the Inventory dealer: GLaDOS. Who knows how she was convinced to run the tournament, but she’s certainly making the most of it by insulting our players at every possible opportunity. When she’s not shrugging off Claptrap’s advances (and who knows if she can keep that up forever), GLaDOS is known for her incisive commentary and her strong tendencies towards murder. She may err on the side of evil from time to time, but she’ll still keep the game honest… no cheating here. If you’re a poker pro, you might just unlock all of her prizes, turning the Inventory into a test chamber right out of Portal.

So what were those out-of-game unlocks I was referring to earlier? Well, as soon you start your second tournament, you’ll see your first Bounty Challenges. Once you pass three challenges, one of your competitors will place a bounty item up for grabs in the next tournament. It could be the Orb from Venture Bros, or Claptrap’s Spike TV award, Ash’s Necronomicon, or Sam’s banjo. Even GLaDOS will throw a Personality Core into the mix if she feels the urge. Win the Bounty Tournament to secure your prize, and with it, you’ll not only earn a new Premium Theme for your PS3, but you’ll also unlock some cool gear in Borderlands 2. You haven’t lived until you’ve played as a Berzerker with Brock’s mullet, or the Asssassin Portal skin.

Poker Night 2 on PSN

As this is a single-player game, some of my favorite moments occur when our characters are interacting with each other during a hand. We’ve made sure that Poker Night 2 has even more content than the first game, including storylines that extend not only from hand to hand, but across multiple tournaments as well. I’ve been playing the game for months and I still get surprised by new conversations and reactions I haven’t seen before. If you’ve ever played in a regular poker game with your friends, you’ll recognize the type of ribbing banter we have in Poker Night 2, except in this case your friends are celebrities with a taste for violent weaponry.

With all of the new content available in Poker Night 2, we’re very excited for you all to get your hands on it and let us know what you think! The game will be $9.99 when it launches on PSN — we’ll have an official release date soon, so stay tuned!

  • this sounds amazing, will it be on the vita too ?

  • i am so getting this on day one just to get evil dead themes for my ps3 and the borderlands heads

  • Why is it double the price when compared to the Steam version?

  • This looks awesome!

  • Is the $9.99 a typo? Since it’s $4.99 on Steam (and comes with the original).

  • Considering the TF2 and Xbox Avatar items the other platforms can receive, is there any chance you guys could work in items for PlayStation Home? I mean, the crossover themes are cool, but there’s no way to show those off (and I’m not one for Borderlands-ing).

  • @5 its more than likely not a typo, steam gets way better deals than everyone, origin, xbox, they get tons, the first dead island game of the year edition was only 5 bucks on steam awhile back, but im not a PC gamer really

  • meh…i’m sorry but i have no interest in poker or card based gaming. I’m more interested in Walking Dead season 2 and the Wolf among us game you guys are working on.

  • “As this is a single-player game…”

I lost all interest as soon as I read that line. Everything about ti sounded cool then that happened. What a lost opportunity right there. That’s like making a kick-ass fighter with character cameos from multiple games and it be single player.

  • 9.99 !!! It’s 4.99 on Steam. That price it’s an slap on the face of PS’s users.

    4,99 or I won’t buy it.

  • PS Vita please. This is definitely a game that DOESN’T need to tie up the TV. I could easily see myself sitting back on the couch playing this.

  • @7 Steam does frequently have great sales, but in this case $4.99 is the regular price. Shame, because I was going to buy this on PS3 if this was going to be the case. Oh well.

  • Got the first part for something around 1€ on Steam. Played it for some achievement during their holiday sales and never touched it again.

It seems to offer slightly more this time, but 10€? While it’s just the half price on Steam? And still with no multiplayer? Of course!*

    * This probably shouldn’t be taken serious

    P.S.
The trailer that you use on the EU blog has active privacy settings.

  • When do we get the first Poker Night at the Inventory on PS3 and/or Vita???

I want to see/hear Strongbad and Max quip at eachother, mostly, but it’s also an amazing upsell opportunity for TellTale!

I hope you guys get Guybrush or LeChuck into one of these eventually; that would be awesome! Carl or Master Shake from Aqua Teen Hunger Force and/or Prince of Persia would also be AMAZING.

  • Price is ridiculous. Do we get extra content then? Or are you just trying to overcharge us PS users?

  • So, I want to complain as well about the price being twice what Steam is (actually, Steam gets 2 games for 1/2 the PSN price), but I’m still buying the PS3 version because I have Borderlands 2 for the PS3, I don’t have the 360 which gets the GLaDOS avatar item (*sigh*), I do like the PS3 themes, and GLaDOS is the dealer.

So, please reconsider the price, TellTale, and also let us know why it has a set release date for Steam for next Tuesday but you’ll get back to us on the PSN release date. Is Valve holding your family or pet hostage or something to get such special favor?

  • not going to buy this because of the price. id probably pay 10 if it were on the vita with crossbuy but i doubt it will be

  • Why no Bruce Campbell?

  • Is this going to have add-ons?
I would love to see Peter Griffin, some one from Robot Chicken, someone from mortal kombat and Kat from gravity rush.

  • Before I comment, let me just say that I just love Telltale Games’ games. You guys keep on rockin’.

Anyways, Poker Night 2 sounds awesome and I loved the first Poker Night when I played it on Steam. I can’t wait for this one to arrive, but can the first one arrive on PSN as well so that I can add it to my collection?

  • @19 Oh god, please no Peter Griffin.

  • This looks awesome. I would love to play something like this on the Playstation Vita

  • Nice game this will be fun!!!!!!

  • This looks great. So glad it’s coming to PSN.

  • Does this game feature Lee or Clementine? no? then FORGET IT!

Seriously, why are you working on anything OTHER than The Walking Dead season 2? We needed it YESTERDAY! It was the greatest story I had ever seen in a game, I’ve never felt so immersed in a game that requires so little interaction, that’s how powerful that game was.

seriously, I’m the kinda guy who only plays FPS like Black Ops 2 and BF3, yet I’m more eager to get the Walking Dead S2 rather than the next map pack or DLC for the former titles. Do I have to pay you to develop it faster?

We need season two NOW! not tomorrow, not after breakfast, NOW!!!

  • Hmm, I thought this was going to be $4.99 like on Steam. Double the price just because of PSN? I guess I’ll pass then. I was going to buy it for $4.99, and was hoping the original would get released on PSN as well. You would have got $9.99 out of me that way.

  • I heard about these games. I’ll finally check it out!

  • Gonna stick with High Stakes on the Vegas Strip: Poker Edition on PSN. It supports 6-player online tables with constant audio/video chat via PS Eye. Different games, constant balance of cash….hard to beat for me. The selling point being interaction with a wide spectrum of the PS community.

Much love to the TellTale squad, just being honest!

  • Why are you threating us PS gamers like this? Making is pay double the price yeah right I won’t buy this.(I know steam have better sales deal but day 1 prices are always the same)

  • Go to Google

Search “Let’s Get FlatOut Head On PS Vita Compatible”

    Click on the first result.

    Sign the petition please.

    Thank you

  • Actually, count me out ’til there’s price parity. Twice the cost for half the games with the only particularities being wallpapers and trophies? Even if this launched at 50% off for Plus, the would just make me more peeved.

  • This looks promising but since it’s $5 on Steam; unless Poker Night 2 comes with Vita cross-buy compatibility Imma pass.

  • 10 bucks…..TEN…BUCKS…..I just pre-ordered for 5 on Steam! ……*sigh* Fine, I’ll buy it. Want my god damm Borderlands 2 thingies anyway. -_-

  • This would be nice and all for those with insufficient hardware to get the TF2 rewards on PC. Seriously, why up the price when on Steam you can get it for $5? If this would be involved with Steam in a manner like Portal 2 was that’d be great in the sense if that the players on the PS3 could still get the TF2 unlocks.

Personally, I think I’ll just trade my way up to two keys (even though the key inflation is getting way out of hand imo).

  • multiplayer could have been fun. I’d like to have some online tournaments on my Vita. Especially in a poker game with this much character.

  • I know absolutely nothing about poker, but I’d love to experience this.

  • $10? What exclusives are getting here that Steam isn’t?

  • Whoa! I was excited just to play with Claptrap, but we also get Borderlands 2 skins?! Guaranteed buy for me!

  • Oh mah gawd, I love a game of poker, and to be playing with some epic characters will just amp the experience….

  • I actually planned on buying the game for Steam & PS3.
$5 on Steam for the TF2 unlocks & $5 on PS3 for the fun of it. But it seems like it’ll be the same like the first Poker Night, buying it on Steam for the TF2 unlocks + the game itself, since I would of expected $5 on the PS3 for Poker Night 2. Just for the core game & dialogue. Not for the exclusive bonus nor Borderlands 2 unlocks since I don’t have that game for the PS3.

I’ll pretty much wait til it receives any discounts in the future that will be around the $5 mark, if it does receive any (The Walking Dead did). I can see that it’s great to have Poker Night along on consoles, but paying $15 combined? It was good enough at $10 combined from Steam & PS3. Of course, it only matters to users who uses Steam & consoles (or by knowing the price difference). The ones (not all) who would prefer it for consoles & not steam probably won’t mind the price of $10.

  • This game is a gamble.

  • I’m not a poker player, but you had my money with the words “Sweedish Murder Machine.” Wait…those words were never actually spoken?? Huh. Well either way, IT’S BROCK FREAKING SAMPSON!!! Just please…take my money already. :-)

  • ok this does seem awesome…..but the second i hear that fake ash’s voice it ruins it for me…..seriously if your not gonna have bruce campbell or at the very least someone that sounds even remotely similar…why put ash in?

  • Release date should be right now! I AM SO EXCITED!

  • Fake Ash, so bogus. Why have 1 character with a fake voice when everyone else is voiced properly?

  • @45 yeah. What is Bruce Campbell even doing these days that he is ‘too busy’ to voice the character?
