The Drop: Week of April 29th 2013 New Releases

The year is 2007. It is the future. Earth has been ravaged by a nuclear war and new paths for peace must be found. A U.S. cyborg army may have found a solution: a powerful bioweapon on a distant island. A Mark IV Cyber Commando, Sergeant Rex Power Colt has been sent over to gather information and figure out what the hell is going on in Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon on PSN.

Developed by Frima Studio, the sequel to the 2009 PSN hit Zombie Tycoon, Brainhov’s Revenge steps up the hilarious, irreverent RTS gameplay of the original with an array of new zombies, sharper graphics and multiplayer Cross Play on PS3 and PS Vita. Enjoy this week’s The Drop.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon

Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon lets players get the girl, kill the bad guys and save the world in a VHS-era vision of the future.

As Sergeant Rex Colt, you are part man, part machine, all American. You are a state-of-the art Mark IV cyber-commando on a mission…of vengeance. You’re out to bring down your old commanding officer and his battalion of ruthless killer cyborgs and you’ll stop at nothing to get the job done. Hollywood action icon Michael Biehn (The Terminator, Aliens, and The Abyss), returns in this explosive 1980s style sci-fi vision of a dark future. Turn off your VCR, plug in your video game cabinet, and get ready to experience all of the thrills of Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon.

Soul Sacrifice

(PS Vita and PS Vita Game Card) — Prepare yourself for a brutal combat experience where every decision made will have consequential results. Soul Sacrifice is a co-op action game full of brutal combat and consequential gameplay choices. Take on the role of a slave who stumbles upon a forbidden book that allows its readers to relive epic battles between sorcerers and monsters of the past. In order to use the magic during fierce battles, the player must be willing to make a sacrifice in exchange — ranging from personal belongings, a limb, or even a life. What price will you pay for power?

Zombie Tycoon II: Brainhov’s Revenge

(PS3/PS Vita – Cross Buy) — Pick your side in the epic war between two evil masterminds: apprentice-gone-rogue Orville Tycoon and his army of heavy-duty zombies, or his vengeance-thirsty mentor Professor Brainhov and his frantic masses of agile undead! Post Z-day, Tycoon’s mad machination to extinguish all life in Finkleville has almost reached its apogee. During the final siege on the human fortress, his former mentor makes a sudden comeback, seeking retribution for his apprentice’s betrayal and eager to reclaim his rightful place as alpha mad scientist. Only one question remains: who shall win? Slow zombies, or fast zombies? Find out as undead armies clash in both the immersive single player campaign and the competitive multiplayer mode!

The multiplayer mode pits Brainhov and his fast, ravenous zombies against Tycoon and his army of shambling, slow zombies in a one versus one deathmatch. Pick a side and unleash your zombie hordes to destroy the mobile base commanded by your rival scientist. To achieve that, you will be given control of two packs of zombies and a powerful monster unit to gain control over various buildings, level up and ultimately face off in an epic battle!

In this small town, players have to solve a murder mystery and survive against the killer and supernatural creatures that have taken residence.

Along with the original story and gameplay, there are some new features, including improved HD graphics, an updated control system, a brand new scenario from the game’s director, Hidetaka Swery Suehiro, and DLC to keep the mystery going once you complete the main campaign.

Telltale Games’: Poker Night 2 — In Telltale Games’ Poker Night 2, players will be joined by an all-star cast: Claptrap from Borderlands, Brock Samson from Venture Bros., Sam from the Sam & Max, Ash Williams from Army of Darkness, and more.

T.A.C. Heroes: Big Red One (For PSP) — Join the Big Red One, America’s most legendary infantry division. Relive some of the most epic and memorable battles from World War II. Katamari Damacy — Ever wonder what it would be like to roll around and collect everything you touched in one massive heap? Well that’s exactly the premise of Namco’s strange action game Katamari Damacy. In it, players assume the role of the Prince of the Cosmos as he undertakes a quest to right the wrongs of his father who accidentally knocked the stars out of the sky. The only way to fix it is to roll around the world and collect as many items as possible in one gigantic clump. Both a single player story mode and two-player battle feature are included for the romp, and gamers will be able to accumulate hundreds of different items of various shapes and sizes.

  • my psn wallet is ready for soul sacrifice :)
give us preorder feature will ya hehehe

  • @92 If having an alphabetical listing is so important, it can be done. You just need to set the album equal to the title, thereby having one title per folder. All your folders will then be sorted alphabetically.

I personally prefer to sort by category, but to each his own.

  • No Soul Sacrifice Day 1 Digital? Disgusting!

  • Was hoping this would finally tell of if SS would get its bonuses, but i guess it seems it wont be. was hoping to get the digital version with all the preorder goodies, but i guess its too late now… really hope All stars gets a sale and not just characters in all star games getting sales.

  • so wny can’t sony put the prices in the blog post of the drop? right next to the name, the picture. somewhere. why?

im curious enough to buy 2 or 3 on this one, maybe even 4. but, no sure thing prices yet…is a simple failure and enough to bug me.

i will still buy if the price is right, but would like to know why its nit included is all.

love the diversity of people here. endlessly frustrating at the same time how…off center some people are. but im happy to have seen less of the “give me free games ‘insert list here’ ” posts. admitedly i just bought an older game, found it cheap and i have left it in the wrap incase its the free drop this time. hope to see the full month lineup again, but if not i’ll just tear into it. i got burned on bioshock 2 and infamous 2 like that, bought the game 1 week later it was free. happy to support though….i guess.

  • @ 20

You are saying no one has heard of Katamari Damacy? Either your joking, or your to young to be on this blog right now. Ask your Dad what Katamari is.. (sigh)

  • @13

They gave out the $10 for $50 spent on April 12th.. if you did not receive it, then you did not earn it. It ran from Feb. 28th until April 1st.

  • More PSone classics such as bust a move or bubble bobble. PS2 classics playable on the Vita! Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 on PSN

  • Not really impressed honestly. I’ll wait to see what dlcs and whatever else you plan to release before I think of getting anything.

  • Also, lemme know when you release the rest of the Persona series (if you can) would love to get my hands on P4 again since I no longer have a ps2.

  • I think that it’s good that lately new game releases are slowing down a lot.

It’ll give me (and my wallet) and chance to play catch up for all the games that I’ve missed buying when they came out. Plus, I’m now finally going to receive my tax return to buy some things (yea..filed late this year..ROFL), and my birthday is coming up in June so maybe this year I might actually get a gift from somone; or maybe Sony will surprise me by adding like $20 to my PS Store wallet.. That would be freakin sweet.

Anyway, I’m still hoping that we get:

    BlazBlue Chrono Phantasm (on disc)
    Cannon Spike HD (PSN)
Capcom vs. SNK Pro HD + Capcom vs. SNK 2 HD (PSN)

  • #105 Knightedrk, young was a while ago. I was probably playing games when you were in diapers or longer. By the way my dad passed away also years ago so I can not ask hem either. I am 55. Have been gaming a long long time. I guess out of all the xenogears, onimusha, kingdom hearts, silent hell, fatel frame 2, final fantasy type game request I did not hear people calling for katamari. Did not remember it untill yaw reminded me of it. My bad. I think now that I remember, my son may have played it back then.
    Happy Gaming

  • OMG Katamari! I wasn’t expecting that at all! I never got the chance to play it on the old PS2 so it’s a definite buy from me :)

And there’s no real need to complain guys, yes they could do things differently and not to your specifications but they do try. Not everything is “I would buy that game if it was $10 cheaper” or “Gimme these games now or else!”. I still have all the Spyro games for the PS1. Do I play them? No. I like it when Playstation comes out with more niche games that many players probably haven’t heard of/played before.

  • Capcom vs. SNK 2 can only come out if it’s also being released on Vita. Speaking of which- Is there an explanation as to why the PS2 classics are not released for the Vita?

  • Is it possible for me to play them on there anyway- by downloading them onto a ps3 then transferring them before I install?

  • Far Cry getting a headline image over Soul Sacrifice. Hilarious. I’m not sure what SCEA has in store for the Vita, but history shows it likely isn’t good news.

  • @xxnike629xx Are most of these titles you made up just to tease us?

  • post the info on sale please, I’m dying to see how broke I’ll be tuesday.

  • Still waiting for Final Fantasy I & II for the PSP to come to the US store. What is the hold up?

I’m trying to give you my money! Look, one way or another I’ll be able to play them eventually (the only thing PPSSPP is unable to emulate at the moment is the music), the question is, will Sony/Square take my money and let me play them officially? I’m trying here, I really am!

I’d also love to see Crash and Spyro on the Vita.

These games have one thing in common: companies are terrible at taking advantage of digital content. Those games won’t take up shelf space (there’s no such thing in digital sales) so why aren’t they available? Is it cost? The cost of digital distribution is minuscule compared to retail. Any sales at all would make up for it. Is it licensing? Companies need to get over it because it’s losing them money.

Piracy happens not because people find a way to get something for free, but often times because companies can’t be bothered to provide the digital products we want in an easy-to-access manner, even when said product is available in other regions already (like FF1&2).

    /rant off

  • I hope the rumor that May’s PS+ will be :Sleeping Dogs, Germinator, Pax’s Truffle Trouble, and Pinball Arcade is true. :)

  • @nolo451 sadly we wont find out till next monday. :(

  • Thanks so much for supporting the PlayStation Vita!

  • Last night ended bad…today didn’t start off much better. Now that I found a few minutes to read some of these comments all is well. Thank you to all you whiny cry babies you put a smile on my face…lol. Shady…greedy…alphabetical…crash on vita…crash and spyro…Thanks a bunch!

  • Crash and Spyro are not owned by sony anymore. So even if its playable on the psp/pspGo, Activision may also want extra $$$$ from sony to have access to their games on the Vita.
As we all know, Activision is raking in millions with COD, so there is no need for them to rush out and grant sony access to these properties.
Who knows, maybe activision has a new Crash game ready to be unvailed at E3, and dont want sony to ruin their plans on his grand comeback.
In any case, the most logical reason to believe is that sony want to bring crash and spyro to the Vita, but activision wants massive amounts of cash and sony just does not want to pay………..(just my opinion)

  • WOW you put Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon as the featured release? WOW Sony. This is absolutely ridiculous.

  • @118 Binarynova, I agree 100% with your post. Even though I own Final Fantasy on UMD, I want a digital version available for Vita. I don’t know if the problem lies with Sony or Square, but it’s clear that we aren’t being listened to.

I would appreciate some information on specific areas we could contact to support the cause… Until we get any, I’ve pretty much given up hope.

  • Interested in the far cry demo. I’ll buy it if it’s good. I enjoyed far cry 3’s gameplay.

  • Oh yeah Katamari and Farcry3 Blood Dragon :D day one buy

  • Will we see Injustice avatars released? I’d really love to have a Flash picture on my psn profile.

  • No day 1 digital bonuses for Soul Sacrifice? Danm, guess I’m not getting that. Probably rent it or something now.

  • Atlus just sent me an email saying Zeno Clash II comes out tomorrow as well. Is this correct? If so, how much?

  • I can’t wait to get my hands on “Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut” tomorrow.
I never got a chance to play it on 360. Glad I didn’t.

  • @onslaughtree wtf are you talking about? how about EU store where these games compatible?

  • dying for Blood Dragon and Soul Sacrifice. Still no word on those pre orders, huh ?

would love to try out Deadly Premonition

Lastly, I wish poker night was on Vita. It would be perfect on the go. Sitting in front of my ps3 playing poker, ehhh no so much.

  • @100: Except THEY ADDED MORE CONTENT TO THE GAME.

    HURR DURR

That “finished game” wasn’t so finished. It’s not like they sat around for months just waiting to shove it out on PS3/360 and Wii U.

    THEY ADDED MORE.

“HOW DARE YOU UBISOFT GIVE US MORE VALUE AND MORE CONTENT YOU GREEDY CORPORATION!” /sarcasm

You are words that I can’t say here or they’d make me a “jerk”.

  • WHAT!?
NO WARRIORS GAMES SCEE GOT THEM AWHILE AGO! I DEMAND DUBSTEP SONG & WARRIORS GAMES! NEXT WEEK

    BTW

soul sacrifice demo is soooo much good.cant wait to play full game!!

  • Is zeno clash 2 out tomorrow?

  • This is a cool update, can’t wait to get the freebie for PS Plus members. And possibly get Far Cry Dragon Blood!!!!!!!!!

  • The best part of this list is Katamari Damacy.

  • Is there ever going to be DLC for Ratchet and Clank FFA?
It was promised as soon just after it’s release.

  • What these shady corporations do not need are corporate apologists, Elvick. Ubisoft screwed over the developers who worked hard on the game. Also, I believe the game was delayed at least twice and had an arrangement for it to be a Wii U exclusive.

Them adding 30 extra levels are meant for people like you to forget the whole ordeal. Adding extra levels is not going to make me forget what they did. It’s people like you, why there is so much DLC and timed exclusives these days, since you put up with it and you take it.

Elvick, it’s just that I have standards and ideals that I live up to and I do not like supporting companies like Ubisoft. If you want to buy Ubisoft products, that is your perogative, but I am going to go on with my boycott.
Besides, Ubisoft games suck, since they are very low quality.

  • I need an answer here, from anyone from the blog, sony, the editors… i don’t know who, but answer me:

Yeah, not gonna happen. Just like after years of spamming about alphabetical game sorting, I have never gotten an answer, even with abusing the comments, which I’d never have to do if I had got a straight answer.

  • @neuropunk

You spam about alphabetical game sorting…FOR YEARS?! Im sorry but thats sad lol not everything is perfect. Please stop being soo negitive and find somthing you like. the world already has enough problems.(Read @124, just to show how he looks at you as a joke from the comments you post.)

  • posted this on the ps+ but i guess i should post it here too:

Just an FYI for people waiting on Soul Sacrifice, the devs have stated on their twitter that the preorder bonus will be available for digital buyers for a limited time. i cannot wait!

  • Yes, for years. What’s so sad about that? Not everything is perfect but that doesn’t mean you have to be happy with it.

Anyhow, what is even more sad is that there is no option to alphabetically sort the games we bought. What is even more sad is that I have never got an answer about it.

Hell, maybe I should start flooding the blogs if I can’t get an answer.

  • I’ll just pick up Deadly Premonition and call it a day. I have a glut of games to play as is, but that one I just can’t resist. Katamari Damacy is a good edition to the PS2 lineup, it’s a fun and quirky game. Just be glad they have no more Dora games to add!
