Wash Your Hands! Men’s Room Mayhem Coming to PS Vita

Men's Room Mayhem on PS Vita

Hi PlayStation.Blog fans! My name is Phil Gaskell, I’ve worked on games such as Super Stardust HD, and Dead Nation. These days I run an indie publisher called Ripstone. We helped teams like Voofoo Studios launch Pure Chess last year, and more recently Big Sky Infinity and Knytt Underground. We love indies and we love PS Vita, and I can’t wait to share with you some of the awesome shizzle we’re working on this year!

Today though I’m very proud to announce a game we made together with Sawfly Studios, a team of talented guys who are ex-Studio Liverpool. The game is called Men’s Room Mayhem, and as you can probably guess from the title it takes toilet gaming to a whole new level! If I had to sum it up in a single sentence I’d say it’s like Flight Control meets Carry On At Your Convenience!

Men's Room Mayhem on PS Vita

In Men’s Room Mayhem you’re hired as the janitor of your very own chaotic men’s room. You’re responsible for directing patrons, keeping everywhere sparkling clean and steering patrons away from trouble! You need to get your customers safely to the urinals and cubicles in time – otherwise there’ll be a few nasty accidents for you to clean up! Avoid fights by strategically steering patrons past each other with pinpoint precision, but be careful, as the waves increase the patrons pile up fast – so mind your pees and queues! (did you see what I did there?). All this is done using simple line drawing gestures on PS Vita’s 5″ touch screen.

Extra points are scored for maintaining proper men’s room etiquette as well as for demonstrating good personal hygiene. And this links to nicely to how I came up with the idea for Men’s Room Mayhem. It really comes from the whole notion of there being men’s room etiquette. Like most good ideas it started with several pints of ale at a local bar with my friends. When I inevitably went to point percy at the porcelain I had a moment of clarity. I realised I was subconsciously following a set of rules for using the little boy’s room. If there was nobody in there I used the urinal furthest from the door, I always left a gap of one urinal between me and anyone else in there and if I couldn’t leave a gap I used the cubicle!

Men's Room Mayhem on PS Vita

Nobody ever taught me this, not my Dad or my friends, it was a set of behaviors I picked up over time — or perhaps it’s more deep-rooted than that (the boffins would say it’s connected to our prehistoric ancestors and being at our most vulnerable when we’re doing our business). This sort of psychology fascinates me, so I thought it might be fun to make a game of it – partly to see how many other guys don’t realize they follow the rules, and partly to let all the ladies know us fellas have a certain code of conduct in our washrooms too y’know!

Stay tuned for some more screenshots and details on the game as well as the launch date and the price. You can follow us on Twitter or Facebook for updates too. Until then, just remember to wash your hands!

    ps2 classics for ps vita
    new memory cards
    and megaman 8 for psone
and megaman ps2 collections for ps2 classics not i said ps2 classics not hd remakes :)

    gimme those things XD

and morgan dont make us wait till monday for the monthly ps plus update please :(

  • you guys went from big sky infinity and kynt underground TO THIS?! lol come on guys …..

    • Lol that’s a fair point ItaChu, but then we went from Pure Chess to Big Sky and Knytt too!!

Our roster of games is admittedly very eclectic, and the games we have releasing later this year are just as different to Men’s Room!! Actually one of them is even more bonkers!! But that’s what I love about indie games and game makers, they aren’t afraid to stray out of left field.

  • Is George Michael in this?

  • @3 Sawfly Studios is definitely the developer to demand that from! And where’s my Final Fantasy Versus XIII?

  • Haha, this looks awesome! When I went to an LSU football game as a kid with my dad he taught me to only look straight ahead at the wall and to shake no more than 3 times when using a urinal. Also, if you haven’t gone after 10 seconds go ahead and shake it and act like you did. This will probably be great.

  • I have to pee!

By the way, your title says “Producer, External Development, SCEE Liverpool” so it’s wrong. Right? You said you work at Ripstone and Liverpool got shut down if I recall correctly. So yeah, edit that!

  • I got sold straight away just by that screenshot ‘leave space between urinals for an ‘etiquette’ bonus, made me burst out laughing

  • This game hilarious, it’s good to have a nice variety of games. xD

  • You lost me at “shizzle”.

Waste of time and money that could have been spent making a decent game.

But it’s just like the Vita to have some game like this instead of worthy titles.

It’s this kind of game that is killing the vita. If I wanted a game like this I would have bought a phone to play it on.

  • I love that people are angry that this game is being made as opposed to other games they’re more interested in. Umm…I’m guessing Sony wasn’t banging down Phil’s door with a multi-million dollar offer to make Gravity Rush 2, Unit 14, or Uncharted GA2. People need to be happy that we’re getting new and interesting ideas here. I’m sure Sony is focusing some effort on bringing new AAA games to the Vita.

    As for Men’s Room Mayhem…

The first thing I did before reading the article was look at the first image and think to myself “Man, I hope this is like Flight Control.” Glad to read it is. I loved Flight Control when I got the original iPad a few years back and it was the best game on the platform. I’m excited that you guys are taking the basic premise behind that game and applying it to another humorous situation. Can’t wait to play it!

    • I wish we had the budgets to make games like that!! And you’re right Kilburni we didn’t have any loud knocks from men carrying sacks of cash, but I did have a burning desire to see this strange idea go from my head into gamers hands.

I totally hear what people are saying about wanting big AAA games though. I think the PS4 announce about Vita being used as a remote play device is awesome and means we’ll get plenty of those experiences if we sit tight. Ripstone have more Vita titles in the pipeline so I hope we’ll have something that will satisfy people while we wait for more AAA blockbusters.

Hands up who wants GTA V Vita?

  • Anyway, back to Soul Sacrifice…

  • not my thing, but it sounds fun for those into the more goofy games

  • lol I love the leaving a space for etiquette.

  • Looks like the VITA has not hope :(

  • Flight Control is a great game. Not sure about this, but interested to learn more.

  • :(

More time and resources, that, could have been better spent.

Love your spring sales event though.

Couldn’t have said it better myself #11…. what in the hell is this crap (see what I did there?)?

  • Looks entertaining. Depending on the price it might be a good buy.
As for all the morons trashin the vita for “games like this”, plz shuttup n keep your opinions to yourself if your just gonna rate the game before release..
Its probably because ur comparing the vita to a console?
keep in mind the Vita is a PORTABLE DEVICE, yes we need more big name titles, but seriously, check out vita wiki page.
I personally Love small titles like this expecially when im on lunch or something, or want a change, or got a few min, whatever.
look @ jetpack joyride, one of the simplest games on vita but hugely entertaining. U can play with 1 finger!
i welcome all these small titles, & hope that with the massive lineup, more ppl will pick up & play, wel get those huge titles. (common killzone..)

  • the Vita IS a console ya dummy :P a handheld one….. that was the whole point of it. And mostly what we’re getting are crappy boring indie games that belong on the Ipad or the phones…..

    O ya Jetpack Joyride? BORING….. unless I was 12 I guess… but I’m not.

  • Oh and no I won’t keep my opinon to myself

  • getting tired of the psn market getting flooded with casual games like this.
Kind of disappointing really. Where are all of the good blockbuster hardcore games?

Please Sony, STOP flooding the store with crap Indie games!
    QUALITY OVER QUANTITY!

  • Console on the go…yeah right! PS Vita is losing me right now with all these Ipad games. Who cares if you going to release 200 games this year when 70-80% of them where fit for a tablet…good grief

  • Don’t listen to these idiots. As if development of this game has somehow pushed back a sequel to Gravity Rush. I for one enjoy seeing some of these mobile titles come to the Vita with trophy support.

If you’re not interested in the game, don’t buy it. But don’t act like this game coming out is going to doom the Vita. Everyone has different tastes, and I for one to see as many titles as possible come to the Vita.

  • Agreed with #20 and #25. Jetpack Joyride is awesome and these smaller indie titles in no way negatively affect larger titles.

  • It’s funny and all, but I really hope there more PS1 games for the Vita coming our way (Spyro or Crash would definitely make my year.)

  • cept the fact that crap like this is all the Vita keeps getting. If this keeps up and you dont’ think it’ll affect Vita sales you’re an idiot. People look at the game list for a console and see cheap junk like this you really think they’ll buy it? When’s the last game (REAL GAME) that came out before Soul Sacrifice? Cause I dont’ even remember…. I mean seriously…… a game about helping people take a s***????

  • Not to start a war, but I think most men have better bathroom etiquette than many women. If you don’t believe me, ask a woman what the girl’s room is like!

On another note, this could be the first “crap” game that is worth a poop!

  • This game is interesting..not sure if im going to get it but JET PACK JOY RIDE is alot of fun..esspecially if your breaking your friends records..all the time..lol The vita has is GREAT MOMENTS with games like UNCHARTED (wouldve been alot better if it had a CO-OP AREA MODE) , UNIT 13..(wouldve been alot better if it had an MULITPLAYER MODE or just a PLAYER COSTUMAZATION)..and RESISTANCE.Owning a VITA means you have the BEST OF BOTH HANDHELD GAME WORLDS..all that its missing is AAA games like GOD OF WAR..GTA..SAINTS ROW…GrandTurismo and a OFFICIAL MOTORSTORM not that ridiculous mini car crap..SMH. I also think they can start with adding AAA PSN GAMES TOO..like SHANK,Castle Crashers,NBA JAM and NFL BLITZ and a bunch of there games i and many gamers would love to play on the GO!..But then again this is just my 2 CENTS..Im enjoying my VITA..but if it had the GAME UPDATES i mentioned above..id be LOVING IT..:p

  • It blows MY mind that there are so many brainless, immature, and mistakenly entitled children such as #4, #11, #16, #18, #19, #23, #24 that have no clue that quality indie titles are just as much of a draw to the Vita as blockbuster AAA games.

Sure, the Vita could use some more big budget titles, but why waste the resources on those until the install base is significantly large enough to ensure that the game doesn’t immediately flop because not enough people own a Vita to earn the studio back the money they spent on their effort?

  • SOLD

  • Yeah… No

  • enough with this indie cra.p! we don’t wank this kind of games on the vita, they look like iOS game AKA crappy games.

I’m guessing you haven’t actually PLAYED the blockbuster hardcore games on the Vita yet have you? If you want Quality the indie games are where it’s at.

  • @31

You shouldn’t insult people.. it’s not nice.

I was just stating facts.. your trying to start some moronic flame war.

“but why waste the resources on those until the install base is significantly large enough to ensure that the game doesn’t immediately flop because not enough people own a Vita to earn the studio back the money they spent on their effort?”

    A. Well, crap like this is sure not going to sell consoles.
    B. I’m sure the Soul Sacrifice people are not worried about that.
    C. Why waste resources? Seriously? So there WILL BE GAMES FOR PEOPLE TO BUY, because currently.. there are none.
    D. Entitled children? Sure.. whatever “Jr”. Ive been gaming since 1978.

  • Looks pretty fun and I enjoyed Flight Control. If you add in trophies, you’ll have my monetary support.

  • It is nice to have a mixture of small titles and AAA titles as well I think. You’re not always going to want to play big AAA titles on your Vita, but you still have them as options to play as well.

  • You know, he talks about his inspiration for the game, but I can’t help but think that he’s watched this video one too many times.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzO1mCAVyMw

    • Lol I’d always wondered if the way men used the men’s room, and the unspoken rules that governed them, was why you never see a queue. There’s always a queue to use the ladies…wonder why that is?

  • All the haters in here just prove that ignorance is what hurts the Vita most. The titles they whine about not having are there and are coming. They just only want to whine and hate on downloadable games because they’ve got nothing better to do with their time.

  • Also, R.I.P. Liverpool. You are missed.

  • @ 36, Knightedrik-

Wow friend, help me out here:

You said: “Waste of time and money that could have been spent making a decent game.”

How is THAT a FACT?? Have you played it?

If you’re this dev, putting your time & $ on this project, your goal is to release a decent game; you’re insulting the title before it’s even released- that’s RUDE. Gaming since the ’70s? I expected a more mature evaluation of gamers & game-makers today…

  • This seems like a neat idea for a game. Will check it out when it’s released.

  • Where’s the jerky? You’ve already have the main ingredients..

  • P.S. Keep them vita games coming. =P

  • Looks hilarious. Reminds me a bit of Diner Dash (which I spent a lot of time with). Provided the price is reasonable, I’ll give it a shot.

    • Thanks Carnageheart. We’ll be announcing the price closer to launch but I think you’ll be really happy with what the game is gonna cost.

  • THEY’RE INDIE GAMES PEOPLE! INDIE!
If you want a AAA wait until e3.
    Indie games ftw.

  • FreshaSaurusRex

I’m sold, I agree with #46 it does remind me of Diner Dash, which was always pretty fun. I don’t get why everyone has to hate on developers who decide to make games like this. There’s already plenty of fun games on the vita, indie or not, so there’s no need to go around bashing some of the developers for making games like these.

  • The game industry has shifted, I’m sure the developer knows this. I’m positive that if they were not developing this, they likely would not be developing anything. I wish I could remember who it was, but they they basically said develop your passion a great game will follow, if you develop a game your passion will not follow. The care taken for this title seems to show in the quality.

Yes, I fully understand there are those that want a “AAA” game on the go, this isn’t for you, and impacted your “AAA” not one bit. There will always be smaller studios and larger studios. Let Sony know you want more “AAA” or perhaps indie games, but be nice about it.

    • This is true TwinDad. I’ve been playing games for 30 years, and making them for nearly 20. In that time I’ve worked on huge AAA games, and tiny mobile games, new IP and sequels, and everything in-between.

The most fun I’ve had is when I was making games that were different and weren’t afraid to try new things, break new ground. I love playing AAA, and I am so looking forward to Beyond, Last of Us, and all the PS4 titles shown. But sometimes I do think those huge productions suffer from a need to appeal to everyone and they end up a bit vanilla and afraid to take risks in case they alienate too many gamers and fail to make their massive budgets back.

Games are a lot like movies. You’ll see fewer (but really awesome) AAA tent-pole releases, and more lower budget and sometimes surprising and gritty releases. I hope the current move towards more indie games like Journey encourages more gamers to try new things and not just stick with COD and Fifa all the time.

  • @21 jetpack joyride was a fun game it was met for a toilet game
