New Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag Trailer: The Golden Age of Piracy

Every Assassin’s Creed game is based in an actual historical setting, with a sense of place and time that provides the backdrop to amazing adventure fraught with peril and political intrigue. The setting for Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag is no different! Contrary to popular belief, pirates didn’t suddenly decide to become a scourge of the seas out of the clear blue sky.

The emergence of piracy was the result of decades of violent and brutal privateering that was not only sanctioned, but also bankrolled by warring naval powers of a size and scope never known before. All of this will have already happened in AC4, so we thought it would be a good idea to bring you up to speed.

The wild, nearly lawless and verdant islands of the West Indies and the towering ships that ruled them present some of the most unique and exciting stories we’d ever encountered, so we couldn’t wait to show them to you in AC4.

Behind the tales you’ve heard, lurking in the shadows of history, the Assassins are always working to ensure that people live free. For a time, that belief aligned with those who plied the seas from Kingston to Nassau… let us reveal the truth.

  • Don’t suppose we can get some side by sides of the PS4 and PS3 versions of this game? I’m trying to decide which version of the game to get.

  • Well…I love One Piece so… lol

  • I feel conflicted.

The boating was the best part of Assassin’s Creed III.

But I don’t want to support the annuallization of this franchise.

  • @3: I didn’t support the annualization by skipping ACIII (the Colonial America setting didn’t appeal to me for some reason and I heard how glitched it was). But ACIV looks like the installment to bring me back on board (pun intended). Now I face the PS3/PS4 conundrum since I wasn’t really planning on being an early adopter, but at the same time, since I know I’ll get a PS4 eventually, do I just hold off on ACIV until then.

  • i loved AC3..the new weapon skills and kills were awesome. The boat battles were also very fun..therefore im guessing this game will be alot of fun too..but whats new? finding treasure unda tha sea? Im not very interested in this game..i have my eyes on SAINTS ROW 4..i cant wait till they release some info about the MULTIPLAYER MODES..and new SUPER POWERS..sorry GTA but theres a new sand box Sheriff in town! #PS4in2013WTF?

  • Hoou great trailer…assassin’s franchise are one of the best multiplatform games…I didn’t played AC3 yet but all the AC games before AC3 are fantastic…even being yearly which is the negative point of the series…the AC franchise is superb…this edward kenway guy looks bleak…but I love pirates thing…and I’m eager for this game…here hoping that they incorporate in the game something like Pirates of the Caribbean. But I’m still in the fence with this game…because I wont support PS4 and I dont know if I should buy a poor PS3 port.

  • Just waiting for some PS4 gameplay

  • Are we talking original Black Flag or Henry Rollins Black Flag?

  • I thought we were in the age of piracy…

  • i never played an assassin’s creed game before… but when i heard that this one was about pirates… well, i just had to get it.

  • Hopefully Vita gets another AC, but this time we get one that will be able to shine on it’s own and not be overshadowed by a main title like last time. Liberation sold pretty darn well considering you shoved it out with little fan fare, despite a commercial (probably done by Sony) and against a game that sold… what 12 million in it’s first month? :/

  • i can’t wait for the ps4. p.s. i love one piece
