DUST 514 Deploys Today on PSN

Greeting DUST Mercs! Ten years ago EVE Online launched on PC, and during that time it evolved with its players into the incredibly successful, critically acclaimed sci-fi game that players know today. It grew organically beyond the original vision of the designers and into the player-driven galactic sandbox game where immortal starship pilots take the power to dictate their own destiny.

About a year ago we began a similar journey with DUST 514.

Interior Firefight

We set out to create something so ambitious and so crazy that we as gung-ho Vikings, had no choice but to make work. We sought to expand the EVE Universe from the stars to the planetary surfaces by creating an intense FPS on console and linking it to the largest single-shard PC-based MMO in history. Not only did we want to link DUST 514 to EVE, we wanted a ramped-up level of interaction where DUST mercs communicated with EVE pilots and cooperated in space and on the ground to generate galactic conflict of amazing scale.

Mission accomplished. We are humbled and proud to be with you here on launch day to deliver on that original vision. Now that DUST 514 has launched, a new door has opened for the EVE Universe. And while there are two separate games, it will always be about “One Universe, One War” in New Eden.

We are excited to take the beta label away from DUST 514, and now that we have launched, we look forward to the stories that our players will create as they jump headfirst into the massive galactic conflicts that await them.

This is only the beginning of the road for DUST 514 we turn it over into the hands of our players to mold and shape. We, the development team, will always be updating the game so that it grows with its players. And the ways they interact with DUST 514 are always evolving. At CCP, we think of launch as just that: the beginning of an endless upward climb. Today begins a truly exceptional gaming experience where the ramifications of every laser blast will be felt across the galaxy.

It takes a team of developers, designers, artists, testers and producers to create a game, but it takes the players to transform it into something truly fantastic. So a final thank you to the teams of developers I work with and to what I can only call the most honest, vocal and best community of players in the world. We could not have done it without you guys.

See you on the battlefield!

  • Hopefully it is great. I will download it as soon as it arrives the PS store (considering it is free), just to see how good it is, if I am hooked, I will be willing to spend some money in the game so that the CCP guys can get some money :)

  • It’s a great game. I’m not that into FPS but I like Dust 514. I’m kinda looking forward for the vita version ;P

  • Congrats of the initial launch! hopefully there will be support with the years to come.

  • There are a great many of us that just aren’t going to be interested in this until Trophies are implemented. I had hoped they would be available once it got out of beta, but I do not see anything in the post about it.

  • will check this out

  • trophies?

  • If you build it [Trophies], they [legions of Trophy whores] will come.

  • Played it yesterday, HUUUUUGE improvement, the game actually looks beautiful now with its own look and feel, however gunplay is still somewhat annoying and it takes much too long to kill someone, it’s probably worse than Halo in that case. Also, I wish your character actually jogged around the command deck (or whatever its called) and the planning/sand table room instead of that ridiculous, TERRIBLY SLOW WALK!! lmao, amazing progress though, I was completely shocked at how amazing the update was, keep up the great work!

  • QUESTIONS:

So do we need to download the whole game over again, or is it a patch to the beta?

    Are there trophies?

My understanding is we keep all assets and progress… is this correct?

Thank’s, can’t wait to get home and play.

  • Well, I’m glad to see this is finally the full release. I’ve been wanting to play Dust 514 since it was released as part of Playstation Plus originally, as an exclusive Beta. However, my internet speed sucks, and as such I have yet to get the game updated in order to play ^^; I hope that in the future it will be made so the game can update like any other, that way I could let it run overnight. I’m looking forward to this anyway, it seems like it will be a good console alternative to Planetside 2 (which…my PC cannot run XD)

  • Hi.

    Are there trophies? Platinum trophy?

    Thank you very much.

  • i was going to ask the samething as @guitarded77, if you guys answer thanks in advance ^^

  • Don’t waste your time downloading it! TBH if anyone tells you this game is good they are lying. You are lucky if you get 15frames a sec, hit detection is bad, controls are clunky, graphics are below sub par. Maps are way to big for player count size. Sony really dropped the ball when making this game exclusive. The only thing Dust 514 has going for it is it’s free to play nothing else. It tries to make it self seem like it’s a hard game but in reality it’s nothing special outside of being connected to a space mmo on the PC. I would not recommend this to any of my friends. I wouldn’t even recommend it to my worse enemy. But go ahead and try if you want you will be dissapointed.

    Graphics 4

    Controls 4

    gameplay 4

  • finaly anyways they should make a VITA app that lets us scale the map and call in strikes or support an stuff
space view of EVE maby planet viewer controller for driving flying stuff like
    that would awesome

  • also niteshade 83 rules are NO JERKS!

  • If you downloaded it before 5/6/2013 (the “soft launch”) you might as well delete it and redownload, it’ll be easier to download the main client using PSNs download resume ability instead of downloading the “patch” in one go (if you have mediocre internet).

After that, one of the things included is a much revised internal patch download mechanism which works great, and saves progress every 200MiB or so, so hotfix patch updates are much much faster.

The graphics are leaps and bounds ahead of where they were, today saw the release of a slew of new weapons (and they are in the process of tweaking the previous weapons).

The update also saw the release of a new skill tree, so all skill points previously accumulated, as well as all non-officer, non BPO, or otherwise “not purchasable” equipment was refunded (so chances are you’ll have a glut of Skill Points to allocate if you’ve tried the game after the last reset before the Open Beta started, and you can reallocate).

Transitioning between screens is MUCH MUCH faster, used to take forever to open certain screens, now it takes a second and you’re there.

Does it still have bugs? Sure.
Does it have hit detection issues? Yah.
Is it fun and free? Absolutely.

  • @guitarded77

    No need to redownload.

    No trophies (for now).

All progress kept, except the majority of assets have been refunded, including all salvage (except officer weapons)

  • it amazes me how people say ” if it has no trophies they wont play it” you know be mofos that need that Good Job son, you did great with your task lmao GTFOH with that nonsense!

this looks good though! they’ll just be missinv out while other be leveling up lmao!
    Keep up the good work!

  • I liked the beta gameplay, didn’t had any framerate issues, just textures taking their time to load, but the menus, god the menus, so much info at first I didn’t know what to do and when I tried to make friends to play it they abandon it because they didn’t know how to upgrade, create/use loadout, please simplify them, also make easier to invite friends to form a squad. Finally I don’t know how to feel about been able to use any gun as a sniper, all of them have really long ranges.

  • @Maverick_fox1

Weapon ranges have been nerfed significantly in Uprising. It’s more of a “trench warfare” style gameplay instead of the “no mans land” Chromosone ( Dust514 beta build name) had. Devs are (hopefully) working hard on balancing ranges on all weapons.

  • I was in the beta and i have to say it kind of sucks, the graphics weren’t that great and neither was the gunplay. It feels like it was made for the pc but then decided to port it to the ps3. Hopefully Destiny does the fps MMO thing right whenever that comes out.

  • @15 since when is posting your opinion being a jerk??

  • how to creators and developers get money from a free to play game ? is the profit off DLC ? anyways im not into First Person View at ALLLLL. it is free so maybe il try it anyways just for the hell of it.

  • @PainOfSarrow just like eve online all dlc and expansions on dust 514 will be free also the only profit CCP makes from this game would be boosters and ‘add-on packs’ off psn store and the marketplace in game

  • i have this issue where everytime i try to connect to a friend my internet goes haywire. my router resets itself causing me to lose connection and get signed out of the psn. this doesn’t happen with any of the other online games i play. any word on what might be the problem? is this an issue with the game or a problem on my end? hopefully i can join friends in the final version.

  • U-E-N-D-I-L ohh okay i see. thanks for the info.

  • it’s a very fun game I have been in since early beta if you try it out try running with a good corp/squad it will really make a difference on how you feel about the game.

  • just a tip for the newcomers: don’t get overwhelming by the game yes it is not your ordinary shooters and have some complexity but with time you will understand everything and experience the greatness of DUST 514

  • this game is so good *-*

  • Like @21 said, the graphics were subpar (heard they upgraded since beta though) and the gunplay wasn’t that impressive. I used to play EVE before so I have to say I was excited for this game. I’ll have to give it one more chance for a week but I don’t know.

And yes, I’m super excited for Destiny also. On PS4 of course =P

  • I played this game last week and it was pretty fun. It’s like an halo mix with battlefield. If you like planetside 2 you will like Dust 514.

  • The graphics was good and the gameplay was fun but you have to get used to it because it’s a new game.

  • You made almost every one in my corps stop playing today but I’m still here.

    Thanks, AnyWay

  • I feel bad for anyone who cannot find enjoyment in Dust 514. I have been playing the game for almost a year now with it many limitations. I can say now, with its latest expansion, I feel like I am playing a whole new game. Leaps and bounds from where we were all those months ago in closed beta. I just can’t believe this game is Free-to-Play. So lucky to be a PlayStation 3 owner.

The best part is that this is only the beginning. So much more to come this year and for many years to come…the thought of never having to buy another shooter sequel year after year just boggles my mind. Sure it is not for everyone…and yeah it still has a few things to iron out. But these developers believe in their product and believe in their fans. Hope to see the many PlayStaion faithful deploying into the Burn Zone with this very unique and very special exclusive.

  • @34 yeah if you watch eve fanfest 2013 dust keynote they are planning on adding new vehicles new suits new weapons and of course new maps but most important fighter jets and it will all be added for FREE

  • Well this is a welcome edition, can’t wait to get into this again it’s been a while since i played this!!!!!!!!!!

  • One question, how much has this improved since the open beta? I know the open beta was a big improvement from the closed beta, but it was still terrible compared to every other FPS that exists on PS3.

LOL at all the idiots who only want this game for trophies, you’ve completely lost the point of gaming, it’s about having fun, not racking up tiny pixelated icons you call “trophies.”

@36: you mean a welcome ‘addition’ not edition.

  • Needs trophies. I’ll give it a try either way, but still, it feels like it’s missing something without them.

  • @38: Yeah we’re so spoiled by trophies. They’re very fun and addicting to collect… a trophy patch for this game would be welcome!

  • @37 – The game received a major graphical update on 6 May with the ‘Uprising’ expansion. Improved sound and UI as well. Not to mention a bunch of new dropsuits, a reworked skill tree and the enhanced Starmap that is designed for a console.

Add to this new weapons, new maps and new game modes today with the “Official Release” and it is quite a step up. Definitely worth another look if you have not been playing for awhile.

  • I don’t get it, does this dang game have trophies or not every game should have trophies on ps3 otherwise they should not even be released, no offense to people who don’t play for trophies, but I hate playing games that don’t have them I find no point to even play those games anymore.

  • Well thanks very much for all the work that went into this game. I am glad to have a free to play FPS with such deep science fiction elements on the PSN.

I downloaded and played this game for two periods before, when the game was in beta. It was bad both times. I have downloaded it again, and will give it a fair shake before I say goodbye for good, or settle into playing it!

Anyway, give it a shot, it’s free! You might like it.

  • lynn231 … Lol omggg mann you cant be forealllllll…. il just asume that was sarcasm. good one man.

  • xFuzylilManPeach

Seriously contemplating nabbing the veteran merc pack; possibly even the elite pack…! :O

happy gaming Dust & EVE universe!

  • Okay, yeah, it is still terrible. Had a tremendous amount of lag; game play is still poor compared to most shooters on this generation of consoles, but relative to the PlayStation 2, the game is good; huge grind; and for whatever reason, after waiting for anywhere from 30 seconds to a few minutes in my virtual apartment to deploy, I have to wait an additional 4 minutes in a waiting room for the match to begin.

I appreciate the work, but this game is just not for me. I just can’t spend that much time to grind something that is so beneath par.

  • @45 dude I just got down playing it for like 4 hours and I had no lag at all and I am having a blast playing I see it is one if not the best shooter at there right now and I have played allot of shooters

  • CCP Eterne here, a community rep for DUST 514. I’d like to thank everyone for the comments, both positive and negative. We’re watching closely what people say because we want to make DUST 514 the game that everyone goes to for a deeper, more immersive FPS experience.

There’s no need to redownload the client, merely patch it. However, it’s a pretty big patch for Uprising, so give yourself some time.

We don’t have Trophies now, but it’s something we’re definitely something we’re looking at adding. We know how much people like them, but we also don’t want to use them as a crutch for content. We want people to have fun shooting each other in the face, conquering planets, and helping to flip systems in EVE Online first and foremost.

For people experiencing frame rate problems, we’ve had some reports of this and are looking to fix them. We’ve released a few patches since Uprising launched and are continuing to collect data and feedback to help resolve these issues. We’re releasing fixes for things regularly, so hopefully the issues will be solved quickly.

I hope everyone enjoys DUST 514 and if you want to keep in regular touch with our developers, you can post on our official forums at http://forums.dust514.com

  • I still can’t access this game due to the fact that I can’t download the uprising update in the client login. Still have no progress on having help for this anywhere. Hoping I can find the help here.

  • I am absolutely LOVING this game.
Huge improvements made over the course of the beta.
A visual overhaul has been made to every detail in the game. From menu interface, to in-game engine.
It is deep, customizeable, fun, and unique. Love it.
Only thing I would slightly enhance is the feel of the gunplay.
I have adjusted and gotten used to it, so its no biggie, but I can see why some would say it feels a little loose.
I also love the fact that updates are made regularly. Its like I can see noticeable improvements from one day to the next.
CCP is a developer to reckon with. They are quickly rising up as a team of developers that I respect.
    Many props.

I never do this, but I’m actually considering researching corporations and joining one.
If anyone can recommend one, please let me know!
    Thanks!
