Gran Turismo 6 Unveiled, Out This Holiday on PS3

Greetings PlayStation.Blog. Today we’re really excited to announce that Gran Turismo 6 will be released Holiday 2013. The news was revealed today by legendary GT creator Kazunori Yamauchi himself at our Silverstone event held to celebrate 15 years of the 70-million-selling series.

GT6 for PlayStation 3 will see many enhancements, improvements and additions to the game. bringing new levels of authenticity to ‘the Real Driving Simulator’. Features revealed today include stunning new tracks and cars and an overhauled user interface. There’s also a new engine, which will improve game operation. Meanwhile, we are set for expanded connectivity with other devices, and increased social and community functions.

The cars and tracks from Gran Turismo 5 — which has now sold over 10 million copies since launching in 2010 — will return in GT6, but notable new additions will bring the car lineup to over 1,200. Players will also be able to customize their rides to a greater extent than ever before.

Amongst the track line-up, the UK’s famous Silverstone Circuit will be just one of seven new locations in Gran Turismo 6, taking the total to 33, with 71 different layouts available — 19 of them brand new. This already impressive lineup of cars and tracks will be added to by future DLC drops beginning after launch.

Enhancements and improvements also extend to a much-improved course maker function, which will provide several kilometers of gorgeous scenery, including the magnificent backdrop of Andalucía. The course maker will also include a new GPS data feature, which will increase the freedom of track creation in the game.

“It is amazing to think that it is 15 years since we first released Gran Turismo,” said Kazunori Yamauchi, during the announcement at Silverstone Circuit. “Things have changed a lot since then and now Gran Turismo 6 is a further evolution of my dream. We’re pleased to deliver GT 6 to PlayStation 3 as we have a very loyal community on that platform. However, we have refactored the game to make it very flexible and expandable, with a view to making many future developments.

“I am very pleased with everything about the new game and the new additions, but the launch will only be the beginning for GT6. The game will continue to develop throughout its life. I already have many ideas for things I want to achieve in the next 15 years of Gran Turismo!”

Further news about Gran Turismo 6 will be revealed at the forthcoming E3 and Gamescom events, and on www.gran-turismo.com.

  • PS4 version would be awesome, time to move on to bigger and better consoles!

  • So sick and tired of the Vita cry babies. The system is a failure, please accept it and move on. There are greener pastures on the other portables. Wise decision of Sony to put this on the PS3 only. It’s too risky pushing it to a new hardware and a downright insult if they were to do an easy peasy but half hearted upgrade to the PS4. Just like GTA V, this game is meant for the current gen, not next gen. Besides, putting this on the PS4 will hinder Driveclub, Sony’s latest and next gen driving IP.

  • People on this blog say the most stupid things I have ever seen on a gaming site. i mean what is it magnet for losers or something.I mean I don’t even hear this many stupid things said on N4G.

  • Thank you Sony for looking out for your current user base unlike some other console maker who hasn’t had an original IP for their system in like 3 years. lol MS blows Sony rocks, nuff said.

  • I’m looking to buy Gran Turismo 6 on my PlayStation 4 when it comes out this winter. Hopefully will see this game being ported over to the PS4 with the PS4 features. I for one find its in Polyphony Digital best interest to port this over to the PS4 because will sell more PS4’s plus have a bigger social integration with the game on the PS4. Please make it happen.

  • Hell yeah!!! Sony keep them coming , and please bring FF versus XIII , The Last Guardian on PS3 too, not just PS4. Please!

  • PS4 & VITA PLEASE, SONY!

  • @84: Yeah, like how the PS3 and PSP both failed without GT in their first two years. Oh wait…

Would you really rather them announce it and then wait 5+ years to release the damn thing? Because, that’s exactly what happened with GT on PSP and PS3.

  • Hey, Playstation forlks! It’s not too late to scrap the ps4 and make a new Cell-based design, you know? :D hahahaha

  • When GT5 was announced, I seem to recall it being posited as a ‘platform’ on which the series would be built going forward. This is a promise I don’t feel was fulfilled.

You’re not getting $60 from me for what could have been added to a game I already own. Sorry.

  • Not interested in gran turismo 6 coming to ps3. Who really needs 1200 cars, when the developers should be thinking of other aspects like DESTRUCTION OF THE CARS.

Skip the ps3 and release this on ps4

  • I loved the GT5 Signature Edition. Any news if GT6 will be released as collector’s edition/signature edition?

  • always looks good but hopefully its not the same repetitive dull level grind that 5 was and actually a pick a car > pick a track > and just drive game

save the exp system for where it belongs in rpg’s

fps’s now a days have the same stupid problem

  • @ #23
Lol totally true my friends are amazed when they see the vita their like whaaa theres a ps vita… i thinks it is a truly amazing device lol… but great job on gt 6 guys im really looking foward to the game :) keep up the good work team

  • I may just have to wait until 2014 to purchase a PS4…too many amazing titles for the PS3 in 2013, plus several Vita games coming out later this year. There is no way I can afford to buy games for 3 systems. Too many titles I have not beaten yet on PS3, plus GTA V, The Last of Us, GT 6, Beyond Two Souls, the new Batman game,….unless Sony is smart and provides those PS3 titles to be streamed onto Gaikai’s service, I just don’t see the point in buying a PS4 for a little while longer…Nonetheless I can’t wait to get a PS4, and by holding out into 2014 it will have built up a larger library of games to choose from!

  • I agree with several posters above about Sony having extended PS3 support well into 2013. It does not make sense for GTA5 and GT6 to be released on next gen consoles. With a massive user base, developers get to make large sales, and I do not wish to purchase games which were ported from this gen over to the PS4 with graphical upgrades. I want brand new experiences on the PS4, not just upgraded ports like Assassin’s Creed 4 and Watch Dogs. Killzone Shadowfall, Infamous Second Son, Destiny all look to be true next-gen titles I am interested in for the PS4…this is why I’m gonna wait a while and keep on enjoying my PS3. Unlike Nintendo and Microsoft who let their games support die out for a year or two (in Nintendo’s case!) before their next system’s launch, Sony has been absolutely supportive of the PS3 keeping its customers busy right up until their PS4 launch.

  • @ 55 ThreeLeggedFreak – The only thing dead here is clearly your brain.Sony indeed killed PS3 with the announcement of PS4 now its their duty to keep supporting PS3 to show that they still care for their fans instead of only money.

  • Hahah, not after what happened with GT5. Pass.

  • I live my life a quarter mile at a time. Nothing else matters: not the mortgage, not the store, not my team and all their bull. For those ten seconds or less, I’m free.

  • @110: This has a new engine. So… no. They couldn’t have been updates to GT5.

I hope this will not just be GT finally catching up with Forza but actually going beyond. However since there’s a good chance that Forza 5 will be out by then and running on MS’s next gen system I doubt this will be the case. I’ve been a GT fan since the begining but GT5 couldn’t hold a candle to Forza 4. If there is a next gen Forza out when GT6 hits sticking with a last gen racer is going to be a tough sell.
That said the updated track editor has me interested. Hopefully it will be a fully functional editor. The one from GT5 wasn’t even worth using. Good to hear there will be more car customization. Forza’s full livery customization put that hole paint chip deal GT5 had to shame.

I just remembered about Drive Club. I guess GT6 is for people who won’t have a PS4 yet, which of course will be plenty of people, but what owner of a PS4 is going to trade a next gen racer for a last gen one? For example GT4 on PS2 knocked me off my chair with its awesomeness far more than GT 5 on PS3 did, but I didn’t stick with 4 once 5 came out. To me racing games benefit more from added graphics power of a new gen than any other genre. We want realism in our driving games and cars and environments that look real go a long way in accomplishing this. If I early adopt to PS4 or Xbox whatever there’s no way I trade in the added realism Drive Club or maybe Forza 5 is going to give me to play something that will look dated on launch day. If I were then I might as well just go buy a Wii U and race on that.

  • To all of you idiots complaining about “It should be on PS4″…it’s not. Get over it. You’re gonna buy the game regardless. GT1 & 2 where on the PSone. GT3 & 4 where on the PS2. GT5 & 6 are on the PS3. Deal with it.

  • Awesome!!! finally its comin. my vita is salivating right now. ahhh thats gonna be so awesome.
also i don normally do this, i think gamers should play all good games on all systems( although personally i hate x box and will never ever buy EVER no matter how good tue games and online community are) SONY FOR LIFE HOMES! but lilrican, how dare you mention 4za in the he same breath as the juggernaught gran turismo ! granted forza is fairly bad ass and on xb .the best racing game along wih h project gotham and the only good sim ditto the two but it dosen’t even comes close to the gt series at all.
drive club is the first thing that is lookin to be on the same wavelength of kick ass ness and i’m sure will be a breathtaking and groun breaking title bu wtill wont heat gt 6.
and gadirok.. quite nice poetry (promise am not being facetious ) but why here???

And will someone please change that chimee when you enter the playstation store, IT SOUNDS LIKE BELLS VOMITTING Don tell me I’m the only one who notifes guys
And I know I’m 2 years too late but WHY DOJ THE STICKS CLICK ON THE VITA!! GRRR
Lastly Metal Gear ground zeroes! HIDEO KOJIMA FOREVER!!!

  • A return of the rally section would nice, along with more rally special events. Pretty please.
