Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F on PS3

Today, SEGA is proud to announce that Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F is headed West! The game will arrive this August on both PlayStation 3 and Playstation Network in North America!

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F is a rhythm game featuring 38 unique songs, including popular tracks like Tell Your World and Black★Rock Shooter. Players can create and share their own Miku videos in “Edit Mode”, and can customize the popular diva with over 90 different costumes and 100 accessories. Being the first console game released for the franchise in the West, Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F will include all of the updated graphics, additional songs, and features of the Japanese version.

Hatsune Miku is the world’s most popular digital singer, produced by Crypton Future Media, INC. Her popularity continues to increase in the West and she has over 950,000 dedicated English speaking fans on Facebook. In 2011, she packed the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles for her first ever Western concert, and tickets sold out almost instantly. To gauge interest for Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F in the west, SEGA asked fans to like and share an image of Miku to pledge their support, and the response was astounding. In less than three days, the post received over 25,000 likes and 15,000 shares.

In short, it was your voices, as fans, that helped make this happen.

We’re thrilled to bring this title out for you, and we’re counting on your support. Tell Your World!

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F is slated for release on PlayStation 3 and via digital download on PlayStation Network in August 2013. If you’re excited to get your hands the game, you won’t have to wait too long – the demo will be available this Tuesday, June 11th!

If you’re excited about today’s news and if you have questions, please drop a comment below and I will respond to as many as I can! Thanks everyone!

  • Hey, I just want to say thank you for bringing this over to the west, SEGA. Three questions,

    1. Is this game available to pre-order at any retail?

    2. Will there be a pre-order bonus?

    3. Yakuza 5, Yakuza 1+2 HD Col. and VC 3 english localization soon maybe? Asking for a friend.

    Thanks.

    • Hi Hungcahn,

At the moment I can only answer your first question, but here you go:

1.) Yes, it will be very soon! (And in advance, thank you for doing so – it really helps the game succeed!)

  • Very cool Sega. And thank you for releasing it on Disc and not just PSN.

    • You’re very welcome. Thank you for supporting the title – we really want to see this succeed!

  • Well I guess Sega is making an effort, now if only they could get PSO2 out… or bring back PSP2, or get us PSP2i…

    • I’m a big PSO fan as well (played it for years before I came to work at SEGA), so I feel you! No news on Phantasy Star from my end right now.

  • I am so happy :)

  • Will the North American version of this game have the Japanese songs?

Are u going to give Valkyria Chronicles a trophy patch sometime in the future?

    • Yes, all the songs are staying authentic to the Japanese release. This is pretty key to their melody and flow.

As to a Valkyria Chronicles trophy patch… It makes me happy just to see people who still play that game and ask about it. No word on a trophy patch from me, sorry.

  • taijin-kyofusho

Thank you for the localization and listening to Miku fans from all over the world! I have both versions imported but still happy to see this news.
Hope for more localizations from Sega.

    • Thanks Taijin! If you would like to see more, please do help by supporting the western release of Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F this August – every person counts!

  • @28 – Yes! I would also like to know when we’ll get some Project Diva avatars. ^_^

  • What is this? Never heard of it before or anything. No videos?

    • Keep eyes peeled for a trailer coming out soon! (You can also YouTube search Project Diva F if you’d like to check out the Japanese version!)

  • Cmon, can’t you guys be happy with what we’re getting? =)

Very exciting news. Thank you, Sega!

  • alright bout time i waited so long for an us release
this is also big news to my little brother playstation is getting a lot of
things this year first BRS now miku i saw the entire blog its all good news im so happy i coould die ^_^

  • bluekamikaze0807

You guys have just made my day thanks SEGA this is a day one buy for sure. You have my total support on this :)

  • Yay, now I can buy it again.
I imported the Vita and PS3 versions already. :)

    • Buying the western release to support it will go a huge way towards the success of the game. Thank you!

  • Hi Aaron,

I know you can’t leak anything. But PLEASE, if SEGA is remastering Skies of Arcadia in HD, PLEASE give it a push so it can be released on the Vita. As a fan of the original and a busy man, I barely have time to sit in front of my TV to game anymore, which is why the Vita is like a godsend for JRPG enthusiasts like me.

    Thanks!!

    • Skies of Arcadia is one of my favorite games of all time. No news from me on a re-release, sorry, but thank you for the feedback!

  • Since you appear to be collecting feedback, please know that gamers would enjoy localized versions of Yakuza 1+2 HD, Yakuza 5, and the PS Vita version of this game.

  • Wow I never would have expected this to come over! I hope that this is a success because I would love to see niche Japanese games make the trek over to NA. There are so many great visual novels that never get localized.

    • Likewise – thanks in advance if you’re among the people who will pick this up on Day 1. It really does make a difference.

  • SoupaSmirkhehehe

Can’t wait! I’m hoping that along with this, SEGA can see that their fans will always support them and bring over Valkyria Chronicles 3!

This alone is more than enough proof of this!

  • Thank you thank you thank you. So happy to see a company gauge interest and respond to its fans. Almost can not believe this is happening. I am putting money aside now for this August. Again, thank you.

  • I want the PS Vita version. I don’t care about rhythm games on a console.

Considering all the constant Vita comments on the facebook banner, and the fact you PUT A DEMO OF PROJECT DIVA f AT E3 FOR PS VITA AND HAD “NO PLANS”, I’d think you’d be smart enough to bring that version too.

    NOPE.

Classic Sega. No thank you. (should avoid moderation now…)

And I would have bought both versions in pure support had you brought it out on Vita, physically mind you. But now I won’t be buying it at all. Thanks for saving me money Sega. Enjoy~

    • It’s alright, I appreciate the feedback! We’re trying to do the best we can for this title, and it’s great to get input that I can share internally at SEGA.

  • I’m just going to read the complete silence on Yakuza 5 comments as meaning that there will be Yakuza news at E3.

  • I love seeing all the Vita support on here

Like many of these other people I find Vita to be the perfect console for a busy almost 30 something man like myself

It pains me to see the unwarranted negative attention and lack of investment in its potential.

E3 should be a gamechanger for the device and hopefully Sega and everyone else takes notice!

Also Congrats on 500k for PSO2 Vita in Japan (Pssst that can happen here too!)

  • Sega, I love you with all my heart; but first no Yakuza 5 and now no Hatsune Miku Vita localization make me sad :(.

Still getting it on PS3 though…unless you announce the Vita version is coming to the West. Pretty please :D?

  • OMG OMG OMG YESSS!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!! :D

  • I played the demo not to long ago and I loved it! I was going to buy Japanese PSN cards to buy this baby off the Japanese store!!

So happy it’s coming out West! Can’t wait to get it :) THANK YOU SEGA

    • Thank you for supporting titles like Miku, JLP! Please tell your friends and let’s rally some strong support for this!

  • who? lol rythym and music / singing games don’t interest me (or many gamers) in the least, but I’ve never even HEARD of this one.

    • We’ll be back with gameplay footage and much more to come over the next month. Try out the demo next week to get your hands on it and see what you think!

  • Ugh I had a post 5 paragraphs in length before my browser crashed (oh well probably for the best). My main point is that we should be happy to get a vocaloid game on any major home console/handheld at all in NA/EU (this is why I love Sega and Sony; lol I just keep thinking about the Xbox One reveil and how I already have a HTPC/DVR setup and no interest in football – real or simulated – and will be very happy as soon as pre-orders open for the PS4). I’m leaving tomorrow for E3 (7th to the 17th… this is my first year going on the presenting side instead of the freelance photo-journalist side… hopefully I will be able to still make my way into some of the awesome after-parties) and it will no doubt be one of the best in years.

  • Thank you Sega (I would pester you about PSO2 English release dates but I’ve already bribed and bothered enough Sega of America employees – various food items I’ve sent in can be seen on the @Sega Twitter image feed… if they can resist red velvet Sonic-cakes then their will is too strong for me to break) for making the leap (financially and otherwise) to bring Project Diva to English speaking audiences; your efforts will pay off. I too would enjoy the games personally on my Vita (where some exist now in their native form), but so far I’ve only been able to demo PSO2 and Project Diva games to my non-Japanese speaking friends. Nothing beats playing both titles/series for yourself. Long live the frying pan of doom!

    • Sending us pre-packaged food is always a good bet! Thanks for that. :)

As to your frying pan comment:

“Supple yet smooth – the ultimate weapon?”

  • “In short, it was your voices, as fans, that helped make this happen. ”

Pfft. All you did was count likes and shares. You CLEARLY didn’t read the comments. Otherwise the PS Vita version would be right along with it.

So disappointed. If my previous comment didn’t make that blatantly obvious already.

    • We did read the comments, and are also reading the comments here. It’s great to get feedback (and to such a level as we’re seeing) that I can share with people here at SEGA.

  • I would have really hated you, Sega, if you also had announced Project Diva f for vita, ’cause i already ordered it from some asian site at twice the cost of a brand new ps3 game because of your secretivity >_>

But this one is for PS3, so we cool ^^

Still, it would be great to see it someday released in english for vita. It’s a great handheld, it just needs more love and games :(

  • Wow, can’t believe all the complaining about not getting the Vita version…the PS3 version is the definitiveversion of the game with more content, enhanced graphics, more features, costumes and characters. What’s not to like about it? Buying it day one, support Sega in this endeavor and they may continue to listen to us fans. Dont pirate the damn game like everyonee did with PSpo2 and Sega might actually bring more games over like PSO2.
The whiners on here never cease to amaze me.

    • It’s alright, I fully understand where they’re coming from. The game is really fun to play on both versions, so people wanting to see it on their console of preference (if that’s VITA) makes perfect sense.

Most people so far are also being very positive with their feedback in that regard, which is very helpful!

  • Good thing people are showing some support for the Vita ver.! I’m not sure if it’d be feasible to have yet another Facebook like campaign, because limiting it to the PS Blog comments to measure people’s interest seems like it wouldn’t be quite enough!

Also @74, you probably don’t check japanese stuff very often, do you? haha. Vocaloid is a pretty big thing there, and particularly Miku. They’ve done concerts with Miku on a giant screen singing/dancing, Domino’s Pizza has a Hatsune Miku app over there where she dances on top of pizza boxes and what not, and… well, she’s huge!

The songs might not be for everyone at first listen, but Diva games really FEEL good playing. And what’s more — they even feel good when you play in easy/normal difficulties, and it actually feels like you’re playing to the rhythm, which is a concern for me with this kind of game. Usually they work at higher difficulties, but the rhythm is so off when you’re on the easier stuff that it feels more like pressing buttons to the visuals than actual following the beat. Diva f hopefully isn’t like that, and it’s fun regardless if you’re a pro player or a newbie (like I was until recently!).

    • Completely agree with you on the last paragraph about the games feeling really solid when played. It’s surprisingly addicting!

  • You can express support for the Vita version without being offensive and whiny

I implore people to be civil and supportive that we are getting localizations like this at all.

  • Miss_Ann_Thrope

Thank you Aaron! This is the BEST news I heard all week! YES! YES! YES!!!!

This is a day 1 purchase for me regardless, however I’d like to ask if you’d consider some type of promotion or item reward/sale within PS Home. I know Sega is very good with Home cross-overs, and I know many (myself included) who would love to get their Miku Hatsune on in Home. ^__^

    • Thanks for pledging to pick this up Day 1, Ann! That’s the kind of support that will make this game succeed, and we need that!

  • @59…. no, we can’t. Cause all the vita ever gets 90% of the time are crappy indie games and japanese imports of crap (like their version of board games was one of the latest) alot of people dont’ care for. Where’s the good games? Games like Uncharted GA, Assassin’s Creed…. AAA titles you know? Many didn’t buy a vita to play games that belong on a phone or Ipad… it’s a mini PS3 for christ’s sake lol

And yes I realize this game’s not even on the vita (not that I care about some singing game), just pointing out one reason alot of people are starting to get annoyed…..

  • Yay! While your at it…lets see VC3!

  • Miss_Ann_Thrope

    @81: Take a bow. I couldn’t have said that better myself. :D

  • And I meant “thankfully”, not “hopefully” there, lol. It’s the hope the Vita ver. will come around!

Also @79 — the “content” you speak of is… hardly enough to make the PS3 version more attractive to the eyes of people who simply don’t have the time to sit at home and play. The biggest pro to the Vita version is that you can take it with you anywhere, and it’s a game that just fits the system perfectly. I’ll play RPGs on my Vita as well, of course, but most of the time I take it out when I’m commuting to work, and that’s when a quick song or two of Diva f would work wonders! Unfortunately, the PS3 version, despite its bigger resolution, does not allow me to do that.

  • I can’t wait to play this. I imported Project Diva f for my Vita and so far have cleared all the song on all the difficulties except for the Extreme difficulty.

Such a fun game with a great song selection.

    • Awesome, glad to hear you enjoyed the VITA version! Hope you will like the PS3 even more.

Extreme difficulty is the way to go. :)

  • Hey SEGA, thank you for bringing it over to the states!! I will get it on release.
I was one of the Facebook supporters but I have to mention that if you can get any, I MEAN ANY, of your VIta games over to the states, I AUTOMATICALLY buy them!
That is the kind of support I am giving my little power machine, and I need the games to back it up!

Please make sure upper management gets word of what the fans are looking for!
And make sure that you mention PS Vita about every other second in that conversation!!

  • YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS yesyesyesyesYES
Now we just need Yakuza 1&2 HD/5/Kenzan and I will die a happy Haruka fan!
Also, who do I have to pester to get Kiryu into Playstation All Stars?!

  • So glad to know that ! I have already every project Diva in Jap version !
I want to buy this one too, cause I want to try the Edit Mode in english.

But, at how many dollars it will cost ?
And can we have a compatibility with the JAP Save ?
I have already the game on Vita and PS3…
Buy it and do it once again (specially to unlock every difficult… I just play in Extreme, so it’s really boring to do it again…)

So : How many dollars ? DLC Include ? Save compatibility ?

    Hatsune Miku for ever !

  • They did mention they had 5 Vita titles in the works for this year…

But I dont know if they meant Japan only, Western only , or Globally altogether

  • I am very grateful for this announcement, seeing as how i bought a second vita for a Japanese account so i could get the DLC for the Vita version of Project Diva f.

That being said, is there any chance of SEGA porting Skies of Arcadia any time within the foreseeable future?

  • I wonder if my JP saves/trophies will be compatible with the NA version, either way I won’t mind playing through the songs again. Happy to see such an odd niche title like this is getting released in the US, with a physical option no less.

  • @83…The game IS on Vita. The Vita has good games, just nobody seems to want to bring them over. I guess you can just chalk me up as someone who was EXCITED(ALL CAPS) when i first heard of the news then disappointed when i read the article.

  • @91…. wow….. 5…. really? *cough* PS3 comes out with that many (or almost) a month!

  • Project Diva f was one of my favorite games of 2012 and it was also my first Platinum trophy. I’m looking forward to getting the western release of Project Diva F later this year for another plat and hopefully access to all of the songs that were released as DLC as well.

  • the digital version of project diva will be around 5.5 gb

  • It about time! I almost imported this countless times but with all the hinting that it might be released here I never pulled the trigger. I’m glad I waited on this one.

But no Vita release after you showed it off last year?
And where’s PSO2 Vita for NA?
And also What’s up with Skies of Arcadia HD? (if it exists that is.)

Sigh..Why can’t we gamers ever be satisfied.(ANSWER. Because we know what comes out in Japan and we want it too!)

  • Skies of Arcadia had its trademark recently renewed by SEGA not too long ago

I am hoping for some Megatons to drop at E3

  • bluekamikaze0807

Does this game have Rin singing Kokoro? It’s one of my favorite songs from Project Diva 2nd.
