E3 2013: Indie Developers Continue to Choose PlayStation

PlayStation Loves Devs

We just wrapped up the PlayStation E3 press conference where we reaffirmed our mantra: We’re For Gamers.

We also reaffirmed our dedication to independent developers and their ability to self-publish on PlayStation. We’ve increased our efforts in a huge way to bring unique gaming experiences to PlayStation platforms, and as we just revealed, we have an excellent lineup of games coming to the PlayStation 4 from the indie development community. Let’s take a look at some of those titles:

Transistor

Transistor on PS4

When Supergiant Games unveiled Transistor in March I was smitten. When I played it at PAX East I was in love (I MAY have skipped the 4 hour line to check out the game ;). Supergiant’s newest game has all the style, mystery and flare we have come to expect from the creators of Bastion. I look forward to unraveling Red’s journey through the City. We have been eager to work with Supergiant and are happy to announce that Transistor will make its console debut on PlayStation 4. Welcome to the PlayStation family, Supergiant Games. We’re excited to have you.

Ray's the Dead on PS4 Mercenary Kings

Now, here at E3, we are upping the ante even further with the announcement of nine (!) new indie titles, all of which will be making their console debut on PlayStation 4:

Don't Starve Galak-Z

Based on these nine games that we announced today, you can see that we’re looking to deliver innovative games that span across a wide spectrum of genres – everything from first-person horror to cephalopod fatherhood simulation – to ensure that gamers have an endless variety of experiences to choose from.

Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty!

Octodad: Dadliest Catch

Secret Ponchos

Outlast

  • And we love our indie games. Thanks sony for getting some of my favorite indie games on the consoles and vita.

  • TRANSISTOR AND OUTLAST THANK YOU SONY!!!

  • You have me day one, and for the rest of this generation. I cannot wait to see what the next years of gaming will be like!

  • The guys who made Transistor should bring Bastion to the PS3 and Vita!

  • It Official I believe SONY has won this year E3!

  • Do we need to pay multiple 10000$ to update our own game but get the first update free?
Oh no, wait, that’s Xbox 360, nevermind ;p.

  • I’m so glad all of these indie developers have chosen to come to PS4 first. I’m also glad that Sony isn’t asking for or paying for permanent exclusivity. These hard working indie developers deserve to be able to put their games on any platform they want. I love Sony’s approach to indie games and it is paying off for all playstation fans.

  • Well PS4 loves Indies… But it sure seems like it Hates Playstation Home and PS Home users!

Shame on PS4 for hating PS Home!

  • Ooo.. Oddworld platformer is coming to the Vita. :)

  • Is there any official date for when they come out, specially spelunky!!!????? BTW ps4 owned Microsoft!!!!

  • Don’t Starve! I just want to say thank you for all the Indie support Sony. Your E3 was the best today and I appreciate how much you care about your fans. Buying PS4 for sure.

  • And all of these indie games listed for PS4 are basically Vita games as well because of remote play requirements, right? Anyways, great list!

  • Does the US have a playable, QA-passed, version of Velocity Ultra? If so, get it on the store, stat.

  • Indie games are cool and the Indie game showcase you had was really cool but the lack of Big Game reveals leaves me disappointed to say the least. Even Jack Trenton wasn’t really happy with what you showed.

  • WAT ABOUT SLENDY
SLENDERMAN WOULD BE COOL FOR PLAYSTATION

  • Gah! Can’t believe i’m missing out on all these Indie titles. Iron galaxy’s there!? Lone Survivor!? Bit.Trip on Vita!?Awesome list! Much love to Indie devs. & many thanks. We’ll be waiting.

  • So many cool games! lovely work :)

  • Loving the indie game support…any chance we’ll get Fez?

  • How come you couldn’t get Minecraft?

  • Looking forward to Dragon Fantasy Book II and Spelunky!

  • I want to try them all!! There are indies so much better than “AAA games”

  • To be honest I haven’t play many indie games, but those indie games at E3 look cool and promising.

  • I honestly marked out when I heard that Transistor is coming to PS4. PLEASE try to get Super Giant to release Bastion also!

  • Too many games. :) It’s great.

  • A lot of awesome indie games! What got me super excited was Transistor.. hopefully Bastion comes to PS Vita soon too. Only other game that I would love to see on PS4 is Hawken. Please make it happen :)

  • Bastion on PlayStation someday? D:

    PLEASE

Love the indie push, especially on PS Vita. Keep it up Sony!

  • Thanks for announcing several cool indie games but not bringing them to Vita. And no, this remote play BS does not count as making Vita games.

  • Well Done Sony….Well Done!

  • Indies , moar indies into our warm community !

  • PS WE <3 PS

But guys… Galak-Z and Mercenary Kings on VITA! PLEASE!!

  • Will the indie games spotlighted yesterday be on Vita as well as the PS4?

  • Out last seems interesting, and i’ve been wanting to play octodad for awhile.

  • You guys should check out “contrast teaser trailer”. It looks amazing too. :)

  • So the playstation vita is wonderfully open to indies (via playstation mobile) by allowing anyone to download a software dev kit and get crackin’ in C#. Will we see something similar for PS4? Especially since microsoft is killing off XNA, and with the arrival of MonoGame, it’s quite possibly Sony could get the lion’s share of indie games if this were the case.

Imagine how great it would be if sony made it easy for indies to write games that ran on PS4, vita, and PC!

  • We love indie games too, we love PlayStation. Kudos Sony!

  • I know this is not technically an indie title…. but PLEASE push to get Magic the Gathering on VITA!

  • Really looking forward to Velocity Ultra, Ibb and Obb, Sportsfriends, Luftrausers, and Contrast.

Already loving Men’s Room Mayhem and Limbo. Would love to see a co-op version of Men’s Room Mayhem with one player on the Vita and the other on the PS3/4.

  • I was really hoping to see Minecraft appear on the PS3, PS Vita and the PS4 :(

  • Unbelievable lineup! It’s amazing to see that kind of indie support. It’s the kind that I’ll definitely backup with my wallet!

  • Amazing! Can’t wait to try some of these out, loving the indie support coming to PS4!
