Millions of PlayStation fans around the world just watched our annual E3 press conference — marking the beginning to what will be an incredible week at E3 — and saw the amazing gaming and entertainment experiences coming to PlayStation in the near future. Above all else, what we showed tonight is our relentless focus on gamers and PlayStation’s long-standing legacy to building a gaming universe without boundaries.
One of the highlights of our event tonight was the official unveil of the PlayStation 4 system and price of $399. The PS4 design is sleek and functional, and contains a powerful system architecture that will enable the industry’s best developers to create amazing titles. Our Worldwide Studios team has more than 30 PS4 exclusive titles in development, 20 of which will launch during the first year of PS4. The PS4 games feature 12 completely new IPs, including a game we unveiled tonight… The Order: 1886 from Ready at Dawn. We also provided updates to other exciting PS4 titles #DRIVECLUB, inFAMOUS: Second Son, Killzone: Shadow Fall, and Knack.
PS4 has incredible strength among the development community, and some of the best teams in the world displayed their ground-breaking games. Bungie Studios showed, for the first-time ever, live gameplay of the highly anticipated Destiny; Ubisoft featured Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and Watch_Dogs; Square Enix showed Kingdom Hearts 3, Final Fantasy XV; and Warner Bros. showed the world premiere for Mad Max. We also reinforced our support for independent and smaller developers with nine new titles that will debut exclusively on PlayStation 4.
It’s clear that you’ll have no shortage of games to play when PS4 launches. Globally there are more than 140 games in development for PS4 across our own Worldwide Studios and our development partners, including over 100 that will be available within the first year.
We also announced that PlayStation Plus memberships will carry over to PlayStation 4, so members will have access to all of the benefits across PS3, PS Vita and PS4 for one price. These benefits include online multiplayer access, exclusive discounts, cloud game saves, and Instant Game Collection, which gives members a selection of games to discover and enjoy with their friends. To celebrate the launch of PlayStation Plus on PS4, we will offer #DRIVECLUB PS Plus Edition in the Instant Game Collection.
Sony Pictures Entertainment joined us onstage to announce that it is working on new original programming and unique access to entertainment content on PSN and PS4. Sony Pictures Entertainment is one of the most powerful entertainment brands in the world and we look forward to bringing our fans curated content that they’ll love.
In just over a year since its launch, we’ve built a library of more than 125 PS Vita dedicated games and the platform will only get stronger in the coming year. More than 85 games will launch by the end of the year, including The Walking Dead, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, CounterSpy, Destiny of Spirits, Doki Doki, Killzone: Mercenary and Tearaway.
The PlayStation 3 is heading into its 7th holiday season and our commitment is stronger than ever. The PS3 game lineup today is huge, starting this Friday with Game of the Year candidate The Last of Us, which is now the highest rated game for all platforms for 2012 and 2013. We have more than 300 other titles that will launch before the end of the year, such as Beyond: Two Souls, Rain, Puppeteer, Batman: Arkham Origins, and Gran Turismo 6. In addition, we announced a PS3 bundle for Grand Theft Auto V and a new GTAV branded Pulse Elite headset that comes with an exclusive GTA soundscape.

Ok, a few questions.
Will the PS4 come bundled with the camera or no? If not how much will the camera cost?
Why make a pay wall for online play? Free online play has been a huge plus for PS3.
All considered, I am happy to see that sharing of content and such will be free for everybody plus the $399 price. Way to stay lower than MSs $499.
Okay. I don’t like it, but I can deal with PS+ being required for multiplayer.
But the ability to play multiplayer games had better extend to every profile on the system. Anything less is a joke.
PS Plus is a GREAT service! They’ve proven that time and time again.. This time, they can focus on bettering the online environment… especially with party systems and clans and such.
Quit whining guys! Especially those with PLUS already.. It’s a great move for people to not just leech off of playstation and kill off their servers. Servers are not free. Those who work with them know how much care they need.
I can’t believe the people who hate the idea of PS Plus for PS4 MP. Yeah I don’t like it either but a lot of you hate the idea. Hey something had to give, and your given Driveclub at launch while Cablebox Done gives you DRM and a Xtra $100 to spend.

I mean they didn’t change price tag to 100 a year and for tht you got 399.99 for PS4 price point even a Free AAA tittle at lunch not to mention Cloud Gaming Gaikai Without it PlayStation can’t keep price at 399 you still saying you will Switch to XBOXOne come one 10/month Vs 0.15/Year

I am currently a PS Plus subscriber until 12/11/2021. I’m glad that my investment continues to prove to be fruitful across my numerous PS3’s, Vita and future PS4 consoles.
It is disappointing that online multiplayer has now been placed into the subscription. I always found that free multiplayer to be a great benefit compared to the LIVE service. Hopefully portions of the community will not hold this against the platform, but I can understand the frustration they may feel with this change.
Still on the fence about needing PS+ to play online ( I have a 30 day free trial) but I love how the stuck it to M$
Members of this community should know when to pick their battles.
No DRM, freedom to deal with my disc based games as I see fit? Yeah, I’ll concede the PS+ requirement for online multiplayer.

The PS4 console is AWESOME and the price is also AWESOME!!! The games that it’s interesting are: Infamous second son, Kingdom Hearts 3, Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD and GTA 5 (awesome game). Awesome job Playstation!!!!! :)

nice conference even tho i couldnt watch it entirely because the streams were laggy for me.anyhow,the price point seems decent and its very nice to know that you guys arent going to DRM the console at least the way the xbone is gonna do….not interested in the online component so i’ll pass from that service.i only wish the console was backward compatible because i could/would have sold or trade my ps3 so in order to subsidize the console.either way, i’m not gonna be an early adopter because the ps3 taught me a hard lesson about reliability or lack thereof.but i’d definitely will watch with interest the development of this new console closely.

Before the conference started I had questions like will PS Home be available how many accounts can be activated at once what is the price for the ps4 but now it doesn’t matter I’m not paying the extra amount to just play online goodbye Sony.
I’m also not a fan of having to get Plus for online multiplayer but will get it if necessary. I’ve also always thought that Playstation Plus was much better than Xbox Live Gold. Like many others, having to wade through all Live’s unnecessary clutter has been an issue to me for some time. The PSN and Plus is much more streamlined by comparison and the discounts and goodies make it a better value.
That $399 price point is exactly what it needs to be and I personally like the PS4’s angles. Didn’t think I’d be getting any new consoles any time soon. Now I think I may be getting one much sooner than I’d thought…

I give the PS4 a A-. Paid online play is a bit of a downer.. I’ve always hate the idea of mandatory subscriptions… ( saying that as a PS Plus member for more than a while now feels weird )
Everything else on the PS4 is fantastic. You really couldn’t have done any better. Especially all the love you’re giving the Vita. Now all I have to do is find the local store that’s doing the midnight release, and put a pre-order in…
A few years ago, if you’d have asked me to pay $50 for multiplayer, I’d have thrown a few expletives your way (mainly because I play so little of it). But with the great value of PS+ it now becomes a secondary feature I’ll be happy to use from time to time.
Plus, if it comes down to paying $50 a year, or seeing restrictive DRM make its way to a Sony console, it’s easily the lesser of two evils.
It’s also great that with the recent purchase of my Vita, I’m now renewed until just before 2016.
Looking very forward to Puppeteer, Tearaway, Knack, Infamous, a slew of indie games that I can play on both my consoles, and whatever else the future holds.

I called FF versus XIII being, I also thought KH3 would be at this or the next E3 because of the HD collections, it is weird to FINALLY see it whoooooooohoooooooooooooo! PLAYSTATION NATION! I have two questions for you if you would be so kind. Are these two games exclusives? When you say plus is required for multiplayer, is it the network as a whole or for bonuses?

I’m not all that hurt by paying for online with Plus. It was something I expected. Also we get DriveClub free with Plus? Sony, for all that you have just shown me, I will gladly continue my PS Plus subscription. And thank you for not making Plus required to use apps on PS4. So proud to be a PlayStation gamer.

So it’s true: I need Playstation Plus for multiplayer. I think Plus is good for the neat features on PS3, but requiring that for PS4 if I want online play? It’s linda let down. Hope it’s optional.
