Floating Cloud God goes HD on PS Vita

Hello from Dakko Dakko! Today I’m here to talk about ‘Floating Cloud God Saves the Pilgrims in HD!’, which we’re bringing to PS Vita this Summer!

Floating Cloud God on PS Vita

This brand new Vita remake of Dakko Dakko’s second game ‘Floating Cloud God Saves the Pilgrims’ (originally released on PSP minis last year) comes with a set of enhancements and upgrades over the original to take advantage of its new home on Vita.

When we embarked on this version there were two things we most wanted to do – the first was a full re-mastering of the game’s art to make the most of the Vita’s huge screen, and the second was a new way to control Floating Cloud God.

The original ‘Floating Cloud God Saves the Pilgrims’ on PSP featured beautiful artwork depicting Japanese folklore and myth, by Army of Trolls’ Gary Lucken (http://www.armyoftrolls.co.uk). Drawn as pin-sharp vectors, the art was a perfect fit for the Vita. It was great to go back to the original images and re-create all the sprite sheets at double the size (to match the Vita’s resolution), and the results were amazing. Below is an image showing just how much better it looks on the new system.

Implementing a whole new control system was less straightforward! We were determined to leave the original controls intact, and to add a new system alongside that taking advantage of the Vita’s extra control options. The original game combined player movement and shot direction on the d-pad or left stick. For the Vita version, we wanted to try separating the player’s shot direction from movement, to allow skilled players to save their pilgrims with more flair!

We started by using the rear-touch panel to control Floating Cloud God’s shooting arm, but it was when we switched to a twin-stick configuration that we knew we had nailed it. Plenty of balancing later, the game retains both the original’s control options and this new vita-exclusive system that really opens the game up, whilst keeping the original challenge, which we’re really proud of.

With a full set of trophies and all the little fixes and tweaks we did along the way, we think this is the definitive version of the game. I’ll be around on the blog to answer all your questions of course, and we hope you enjoy playing ‘Floating Cloud God Saves the Pilgrims in HD!’ as much as we have enjoyed making it.

  • Saw this on YouTube last night. Never heard of it before, but it looks silly…in a good way!

  • You had me at trophies. :)

  • PS4 still has time to implement retrocompatibility with PS3 games, PS2 games and PSX digital games and decline Plus being mandatory to play online maintaining online playing free for everyone. If they don’t, I will give the thumbs down to PS4, use my PS Plus account to “buy” free PS4 games and only buy it after it has dropped it’s price dramatically or they add compatibility with PS3 in any way they want to. I encourage everyone that bought over 190 digital PS3 games supporting this company to do the same. RESPECT TO MY PS3 GAMES COLLECTION!

  • You had me at “twin-stick configuration”. Trophies just make it more awesome. Looking forward to more details on this and a release date/price. :D

  • You heard him Sony. Adhere #3’s to demands or take a one gamer loss!
….afterall…one gamer rage quitting means a lot to them considering how many they’ve gained thanks to the Xbox One.

    You need to grow up.
The two machines are completely different.
If Sony were to add backwards compatibility they would be required to raise the price by $200……..like they did with the first ps3.
    Seriously.

  • You had me at “enhancements”. ;) The art style looks quirky and great for on and off playing. :)

  • Cool I have this game on my minis. It’ll be a good addition to Vita.

  • I remember this game when it was a mini & now it does look like the complete version for PS Vita. This just keeps getting better for PS Vita yeeeeeeh!!!!!!!!

  • You had me at hello

  • Cool looking game- loving what the vita is bringing these days.

@pablofsi08 you are still in the wrong forum. this is getting old.

  • Looking forward to it. :D

Price? Flying Hamster HD is $3, will it be around there?

  • The game look ok but hope Sony won’t abandon PSVITA . Keep making more new games please.

  • I may pay more than a dollar for this.

Has a sidescroll appeal, with better colors and design.

If you would keep these under ten dollars, you would see alot more downloads.

    At least from Vita owners.

  • And pablo has a point.

  • It’s coming in Summer, you had me at Summer.

The artwork is very interesting. I looks fun.

    @3

I admire your fortitude to ask for what you want, but this game’s post is not the place to do it. Monday on the PS+ and Tuesday on the Store posts. Frankly you won’t get MP for free, consider that set in store. as for BC, that is where Gaikai comes in. But who knows at what cost.

  • I don’t want it to be free for myself because as you can see I can pay for PS Plus, it’s more about other people that can’t or have no means of having access to the payment system (dozens of countries where credit cards aren’t common and there isn’t PayPal support). This PS >Live< thing is unjust and is the equivalent in a minor scale to Micro$oft's 21 countries only bullcrap.

About the PSN store games, they can offer software emulation of PS3 games just as they did with PS2's at any point in time and they can start developing it now. I suspect they already have it finished because I doubt an actual PS3 will be used for each person playing through the laggy Gaikai system… do you guys realize how many people DON'T have a good ping to US servers? Millions over millions playing their games they rightfully own on the PSN Store with 12 or 14 frames of delay as a solo player, not to mention multiplayer with servers lagging and stuff. PS4 could become the definitive game platform if they add the PS3's value to it, respecting people's PSN digital games. Imagine what it would be if they do WHAT THEY SHOULD BE DOING.

  • PS3’s online will be decimated to a 10% of the current playerbase online once the PS4 comes out with everyone jumping on the wagon of what’s “new” and if you don’t have it you are worth nothing. Greed and prejudice.

Sony just listen to your players. I’m not “one player who will rage quit” there are a lot of people that: 1. Won’t be able to purchase plus for 10 different reasons or 2. Will not avail the draconian increase in your focus.

  • *+ CatatonicAlex is 100% CORRECT, the MAIN reason why the backwards compatibility feature won’t be implemented by Sony is specifically cause it’ll add an extra $200 on consoles price tag, only way it will be possible is to have the chip manufactured cheaper and for that we might be waiting awhile

Oh by the way This game looks fun =)
