Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus Coming to PS3 This Holiday

Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus on PS3

Since completing the Ratchet & Clank Future saga (Tools of Destruction, Quest For Booty, and A Crack in Time) we’ve had a really amazing time expanding the universe of our intergalactic heroes. From creating the first four-player co-op Ratchet & Clank experience for the whole family to enjoy with All 4 One, to returning with the first all-new R&C competitive mode in Full Frontal Assault, we’ve challenged ourselves to bring new types of play to the Ratchet series.

At the same time, we love single-player Ratchet adventures. We’ve continued to generate new ideas for weapons, gadgets, and planets. It feels like the time is right to revisit Ratchet’s personal story arc.

We’re excited to announce that Ratchet and Clank are returning this year with an all new original single-player epilogue to the Future games. Under the creative direction of Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time creative director Brian Allgeier, Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus is a story-driven platform adventure, with the humor and heart that make the franchise so beloved.

As you can see from the trailer, Into the Nexus has a bunch of crazy new weapons and gadgets. Gravity is one of the themes of Into the Nexus: you’ll experience zero-g space, you’ll use gravity-defying new gadgets, and you’ll manipulate gravity to solve brand new Clank puzzles.

The game will be available exclusively on PS3 this holiday, in stores and on PlayStation Network for an MSRP of $29.99. It’s our biggest downloadable Ratchet & Clank game yet, dwarfing the size of both Quest For Booty and Full Frontal Assault. We’ll be bringing you more news soon – and for exclusive preview coverage of the game be sure to check out IGN’s preview and initial thoughts.

As always, for all the latest, stay tuned to the Insomniac Twitter and Facebook page. I’ll try to answer whatever questions I can in the comments below.

  • Man i’m behind have to catch up on the Ratchet & Clank series. But this is a total suprise!!!!!!!!!!

  • THIS GAME WILL BE TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I´M A GREAT FAN OF THE RATCHET AND CLNAK VIDEOGAMES
    I HAVE ALL OF THEM
AND I WILL HAVE THE 12TH VIDEOGAME TOO!!!!!!!!

  • Will it have the 2 player not online like full frontal assault? split screen?

  • response to Q 203 i read back i see theres gonna be no multi player on this game…too bad :(

  • Ah, this brightened my day a great deal. After seeing the trailer, I felt exactly what I needed to, I got that same feeling that I had gotten seeing Dr. Nefarious in the ACiT trailer (Speaking of which, please give him a well-deserved rest for a while. Given how prominent he’s been recently, I’d actually grow tired of him if he were to be the main antagonist of another full-sized game soon).

My only concern is that it seems to still be on the lower scale. One of the parts of “classic” R&C games is the full and complete stories for me, and Full Frontal Assault was seriously lacking on that front (I still view the campaign as incomplete), while All 4 One’s gameplay was really only fun with multiple people.

I am highly interested in this story, though (ACiT is my favorite game of all time, and it looks like finally something may live up to my expectations again!), and I must say that this new direction is very interesting. Hopefully the campaign will at least be 10 hours, though the $30 price tag worries me… I was actually hoping for at least $40, like Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time.

  • I’ve got about $23 in store credit to Amazon right now, and this is looking perfect to preorder with that. That said, will this hit all of the major retailers? Also, when might we expect to hear more about preorder dates (not necessarily release dates). Gotta say, after hearing the announcement last night, I was searching all day at work today for preorder info.

  • I hope you’re still reading this James because I want you to have some balance with a lot of these negative comments. I appreciate what you guys did with All 4 One and FFA. You guys wanted to try something different and that’s absolutely awesome.

Even objectively I’d say many of these comments are far too harsh. Asking for someone else to develop the games, purely because the last two games tried something completely new? Please. I think it’s great that you guys weren’t afraid to make some completely different games in an already established series. You’ve mentioned in these comments that you guys are proud of All 4 One and FFA and you very much so should be.

Now all that being said, I gotta say: AWWWW YISS. NEW TRADITIONAL RATCHET AND CLANK GAME.

Also, it’s probably unlikely that you can answer anything on, this but I’m curious as to why you guys decided to go with a retelling of the first game for the movie. That slightly ruined my excitement for it. I’ll still see it opening day, but I think it would have been really great to tell a completely new story. Like, oh I don’t know, maybe one that ties into a PS4 game :>

  • Will Ratchet ever find out where the Lombaxes are?

  • Thank you for the reply to my question, and all the other replies as well.

Still can’t believe there will be new R&C in the next 6 months. Good luck to everyone trying to make the holiday deadline, don’t forget to sleep.

  • Glad to hear there’s a Challenge mode. :D

And yeah, I really liked A4O. Really fun, despite the annoying glitches (especially online) that were present at launch. Not a huge fan of FFA, but enjoyed the story and loved the concept. I feel the concept is better suited for a handheld, but the Vita version didn’t turn out too well (not your fault I know).

  • @The 163 comment response.

I think its strange that Quest for Booty is the only one that’s not retail, and ToD/ACiT are the only one’s that aren’t digital.

Would be amazing if you do end up releasing it on disk since you could have in 2008 for the U.S. and Deadlocked HD too.

So even though the European title still isn’t the same, you can’t call it Future Nexus? That’s too bad.

Not sure why PlayStation can’t have Sunset Overdrive, even after partnering up with EA and Fuse it can be hard to trust you guys sometimes.

Hope Spyro can also come back one day!

Thanks for bringing back Talwyn! Was wondering where she was after Q4B. Hope its not a villain plot twist. We need more good lombaxes!

  • GoldenThunderRod

Hey do you think you could convince your buddies at Naughty Dog to make another J&D game? Haha JK. But this is Ratchet & Clank, it has to be awesome. Great Job!

  • Ratchet and Clank old ways, like the ps2 days.I’m find about A4O and FFA,but its good to be back!

  • SocialClimber_85

My favorite game series for sure so this is seriously the best news I’ve had since I heard about FFA!! I love R&C and I love the experimentation you lot put into their series, its always changing and for some reason it always works. I can’t wait to see what new adventure Ratchet and Clank will face in this game.. I know one thing you can’t beet that price.

  • Looks great! I enjoy R&C and I’m ok with a shorter game at a lower price. R&C definitely has a Saturday morning cartoon vibe so it might be worth exploring it as an episodic series that is sold in smaller packages.

Also, I hope Sony and Insomniac can see fit to get an R&C title onto Vita. Work with Bend if you have to, but some new R&C content exclusive to Vita would be a wonderful thing.

  • Everyone needs to stop hating on AFO and FFA, they weren’t mainstream, they were spin offs. You can’t compare them to the Future Saga. It’s like comparing Twisted Metal Small Brawl to Black, different audience and lower budget. Also, putting this on PS4 would hurt R&C because plenty of R&C fans can’t afford PS4 (Like Me). So, I can’t wait for another AMAZING game! Love you guys at Insomniac!

  • This is what i want in RaC: into the nexus. I want it as long as tools of destruction. Crack in time was a little short. Weapons to be bad @$$ as all the ratchet and clank series combine and i love the RYNO 5 in crack in time, but want the RYNO to be more powerful and more bad @$$. and i don’t want it to be a suit. All 4 one killed it. I’m sorry but i want the RYNO hand held. And finally, the armor. I liked the way they set up the armor in tools of destruction. 3 sets of armor and a bad @$$, cool robotic armor after the game is finished. I hope to see more familiar characters than they said there would be. Like the plumber, dr. nefarios, maybe even crossing along Angela Cross and Max Apaggi. Even meeting the lombaxes. Also Tachyon. He just went through a black hole to another galaxy, not knowing when he will be back. Because he is sort of like a personal nemesis for Ratchet for killing his parents and some lombaxes. Dr. Nefarios is a funny villain. I know there are already 2 villains but you never know. Seriously, I’ve been mad since after crack in time. I want to play like the old Ratchet and Clank. Just more cooler in an advance way than going to a total different direction. I beg that this will be better than before.

  • Honestly, I think this is perfect. End of lifecycle hardware tends to produce some AMAZING content, and when you have a developer like Insomniac, doing what they do best….This should be a heck of a ride! :D

  • Dont listen to haters…both A4O and FFA are great games.

  • Glad to see a proper Ratchet and Clank game….FINALLY!!! Thanks Insomniac. I will be picking this up at launch. It is one of the few games that my wife will also play. : )

  • Insomniac needs some of their mojo back. After that AWFUL piece of crap FUSE, please don’t ever develop games for non-Sony consoles ever again.

  • I want this and ask the other ratchet and clanks to come out for the vita. Any chances? Jak and Daxter just did.

  • Guys, this holiday, there is very little need to get a PS4. Do the sensible thing and WAIT. WAIT until the thing gets games, wait till its kinks are addressed, wait till it gets value priced games. Don’t be guinea pigs on to a hardware that quite frankly has way too many plans and intentions (I’m not gonna say promise). Wait please, wait and don’t ever adopt newly released consoles.

The PS3 has the best software line-up this year. The PS3 has what the PS4 DOES NOT. THE GAMES!

  • I don’t understand why many people are so negative toward All 4 One and Full Frontal Assault. Sure they are different from previous Ratchet and Clank titles, but they still have the same basic controls and the humor and character that the series is known for. However most importantly they expand on the story. After A Crack in Time, Ratchet and Clank retire from being heroes as mention in the Ratchet and Clank comic series, which you can purchase all six issues at TalesofWonder.com for $14.57 including shipping. Ratchet and Clank shortly broke out of retirement due to the theft of the planet Veldin and the duo’s capture, but returned to retirement after they saved the universe. Ratchet’s want to retire was introduced in Size Matters. At the end of All 4 One, They both decide that they prefer the hero life formally leave retirement. Full Frontal Assault shows that since returning to the hero business Ratchet and Clank joined the Q-Force again; however, Full Frontal Assault is more Qwark’s story after his presidency. It also shows that Qwark is now more of the hero that he used to be before his introduction in the first game. Though they are different from the previous games, they still keep the story alive and moving.

  • I think they need to add something like the insomniac museum to this one to! I really liked that feature!:)

  • So awesome! I love all ratchet and clank, i think the ps2 titles aged well and the future series was just astounding! I am curious tho, will this one run at the same fps that CoT did? It would be great if this next installment was as polished as that one, everything just pops out!

  • Can’t wait!!!

  • Add me on ps3

  • Resistance 4 4 PS4.
    Do it!

  • Will this game’s framerate return to the butter smooth 60 fps that the Future series ran at including the ps2 series? It’s hard to tell from the video but it seems to be running higher than 30fps. If this one runs at 60 fps consider me sold :)

Also will this one be in 720p HD with solid Anti-Aliasing like the Future series? I really hope it’s not the low-res blurry looking, jaggies-full A41 and FFA type!!

Last but not least I noticed Ratchet’s character model looks more similar to the one from ToD than A41 and FFA.. I really hope you guys will go for the Future series character model type than the A41/FFA model.

  • Hmm… I wonder, what are the odds of getting a Ratchet and Clank: Future Collection? I still have yet to pick up Quest for Booty (Odd, since that’s the easiest one to get), and I’m certain that PS4 owners would be content with Tools for Destruction, Quest for Booty, A Crack in Time, and now Into the Nexus until the full Ratchet and Clank game comes out…

Maybe in a few years, I guess.

  • Into the Nexus looks amazing! I see that it’s going to be a great finale to the “Future” saga, but I’m certain there’s willing to be more R&C adventures after the saga’s finale. I’m also well aware that Captain Qwark is going to be in it, because he’s still got the humor and the big ego inside him, is he?

Since it’s going to be the final “Future” game, why not just make a small change to the NA’s title cover to reinstate the “Future” title, just like the previous 3 “Future” saga games? Just asking.

Looking forward to the “Future” saga finale! Ratchet and Clank still rocks!

  • I need some advice from someone. Should I buy FFA because in AFO I bought and got the RYNO prototype suit only for ratchet. Also after beating the game I couldn’t access cheats (Not sure if glitched or if I did something wrong). After that I didn’t bother playing with the other characters (What happened to Quark’s butt chin?!). And since there was no challenge mode I could only replay missions, so it was kind of a let down for me. So now I need to know if I should buy FFA?

  • I would also like to add wasn’t a fan of A4O and FFA but if you guys were to release another collection containing all the games I’d buy it day 1.

  • Thank you for releasing this on PS3! I’m not sure when I’ll be able to get a PS4, so knowing this is coming out on PS3 makes this a guareented belated Christmas present. I loved the “Ratchet Origins” story arc of the ToD, QfB, and CiT and could not be happier to be able to learn more about

  • this game looks great i plan on preordering this but is it also on ps vita wheather its on its own carrtrige or has crossbuy/cross play i think that would be awesome but i understand if its not. please answer.

  • Gamelovingcreatr

I know you are probably done replying to comments and such but I really have something to ask.

-Will there be ANY new titles or ports regarding ratchet and clank on the ps vita? If so when?

-If you can’t answer this maybe a little hint would be nice about a R&C title on vita.

BTW This looks amazing into the nexus looks like it will be boatloads upon tons of FUN. The singleplayer will be awesome just by the pictures PLZ REPLY THANKS!

  • Question
So is this going to be like a lead up to the movie?
    Or
Is this just a new story, Which seem great…

P.s I Think your doing great on still releasing the R&C games…

  • We’ll just have to wait and see what comes up at the end (QFB style) and hope that it leaves an opening for a bigger R&C like ACIT… Kinda disappointed by the fact that this game is’nt as long as the other FUTURE games, I was really looking forward to seeing an improved inter-planetary travel system like the one in ACIT, Guess I’ll have to wait and see .-.

  • I AM TOTALLY PRE-ORDERING THIS!!!!!!!!! THIS IS GOING TO BE THE BEST!!!!!!

  • Cant wait i loved all the r and c games except for full frontal assault because it was tower defense (which was pretty lame) but this game looks awesome.Cant wait for it to come out

  • OMG… I cant wait. First I hear about the movie, now this game, Its to much to handle. I have been playing ratchet and clank for so long the first game i ever got on ps2 was ratchet and clank and i still have every game. Im so happy to hear that after all this time they are still making games XD

  • congratz insomniac games I cant wait for it to be released xD I love your other R&C series as well xD
