Voodoo Chronicles: The First Sign Rises on PS3 Tomorrow in 1080p

Hi PlayStation folks! I’m ecstatic to announce that Voodoo Chronicles: The First Sign shall be brought to life in the US on PlayStation Store for PS3 on July 16th, pinned with a bargain price of only $5.99.

Voodoo Chronicles - The First Sign for PS3

Originally developed by Space Monkeys International, a studio renowned for their top-end hidden object adventure games, Voodoo Chronicles: The First Sign comes to PS3 in an all-new high-definition edition with native 1080p graphics.

When the game was first presented to me, I was impressed by its art quality, level of polish, and amount of content that were clearly above genre standards. Since then, most PC users have echoed my feelings with high ratings, while also praising the game’s original soundtrack and spellbinding atmosphere. The availability of yet-to-be-used HD 1080p graphics for all scenes further convinced me that a PS3 edition was simply necessary.

The game has you play as James Voodoo as he investigates mysterious attacks through the forsaken hamlet of Ravenhill, the wealthy city of Richtown, and a variety of breathtaking sceneries inspired by major fiction genres: adventure, film noir, thriller, steampunk, and more!

With over 50 scenes to investigate, numerous puzzles, oodles of hidden objects to find, and a captivating story told through cutscenes and voice acting, Voodoo Chronicles: The First Sign will let you embark on an adventure you won’t want to stop. The PS3 edition supports both DualShock 3 and PlayStation Move. It also allows two players to play collaboratively: a possibility you wouldn’t have on a PC or a tablet!

I hope you’ll enjoy the game as much as we did. Be sure to let us know, whether in the comments below or on our Facebook page.

  • “The PS3 edition supports both DualShock 3 and PlayStation Move!”

Yay, was hoping for Move support. In terms of trophies can we expect a Platinum?

  • Sounds fun. And a good price too. ^_^

  • Haven’t heard anything about this before now, but at that price, I’ll pick it up just for the heck of it. Seems like it will be nice to look at, if nothing else.

  • @1 poodude

    No platinum.

  • This seems to be like where’s waldo, but your finding objects.

    Thanks!

  • YES!!! My husband and I have been wanting a hidden object game with native 1080p graphics for a loooong time.

Dream Chronicles was downright painful due to its standard-def graphics, and while Interpol was better, the sub-720p resolution made it so we had to sit really close to the TV.

    Couple of questions:
    1) if the game is 1080p native rendering with 1080p native graphics assets, why are the screenshots on flickr in 720p?

    2) are the music assets also HD-quality (24-bit and/or losslessly compressed)? Lots of these games get Wii-quality MP3/AAC assets, which makes it hard to enjoy the music and hear dialogue.

    3) is there co-op play with two controllers? We really liked that about Interpol!

Please bring more 1080p native hidden object games to PS3! Drawn and others on iPad would be glorious in true HD, given their amazing art work!

    • Thanks for your questions.

      1) Yes, the game is in 1080p. Screenshots presented here are those that accompany the game description in the PlayStation Store, and Sony requires them to be 1280×720.

      2) Sounds are 44.1 KHz compressed in OGG format. Ambient sounds are encoded at 128Kbps while dialogs are encoded at 192Kbps. There’s no problem with sound clarity.

      3) Yes, there is co-op play with 2 controllers – whether standard DualShock controllers or PS Move.

  • @6 No prob poodude.

  • Vita guys, vita… Typically the type game that pits a handheld

  • Sold.. I love these Hidden Object games.. It’s nice to chill out with something like this after a stressful day. We need more games like this.. Thank you for bringing it to Playstation.

  • I’ve gotta say. On PC, my wife and I absolutely love these hidden object games. Honestly though, I haven’t been ‘wow’ed with anything great in this genre for ps3 yet. I bought Mountain Crime Requital and wasn’t very happy considering its short length and the price. Now, if it were quality like “Puppetshow’, then I’d pay top dollar WITH a platinum.

@plaztiksyke – You and your husband MUST try Puppet show, there are 5 parts already and each and every part has an amazing story, great animations and puzzles as well as a long complex story. The music is very ‘catchy’ and you won’t get it out of your head for a while. try it!

Any word on Puppetshow possibly coming to the PS3? Who do I need to speak to in order to make that happen?

  • Wish the audio was of the lossless variety, but I will be picking this up day 1!

  • You’re welcome Yan Marchal :)

    It’s up, for anyone interested.

  • Thanks so much for answering in detail! Using Ogg is awesome, and those bitrates are pretty reasonable — certainly better than 96kbit MP3! was there any reason to not just use 320kbit Ogg for everything?

bought it last night and enjoying it so far. thanks for brining a *HIGH QUALITY* hidden object experience to PS3!

    • Thank you!

The sound files were delivered to us by Space Monkey in that format. I can only speculate that they didn’t use 320K encoding because it would not have made a significant difference for the kinds of sounds present in the game (mostly dialogs and ambient sounds).

  • oh yah another great game , i finished mountain crime and i think this one much more better
    thanks xD
