PS Vita Now $199.99 in North America

PS Vita New Price

I’m excited to announce that the PlayStation Vita (PS Vita) system is now available for $199.99 MSRP in North America, making it a compelling value for gamers. With some amazing games coming out in the next few months, including Killzone Mercenary and Tearaway, along with connectivity to the PlayStation 4 (PS4) system through “Remote Play,” now is the perfect time to become a PS Vita owner.

The brand new price applies to all PS Vita systems available at retail, including the limited edition PS Vita Walking Dead bundle that launches this week. We’re also dropping the price of the PS Vita memory cards, as you can see in the chart below.

Along with the new price, we’re currently celebrating PS Vita with two promotions on the PlayStation Store. The PS Vita Japanese Games Sale , running through August 26, offers discounts of up to 50% off on PS Vita games from Japanese developers, including Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and Muramasa Rebirth. PS Plus members can enjoy up to 75% off in the Japanese Game Sale. Additionally, four of the summer’s most anticipated PS Vita titles will launch as part of PS Vita Summer Select , running from August 20 through September 16, with launch week discounts of 20 percent off for PS Plus members. Games featured in PS Vita Summer Select include Spleunky from Mossmouth and Dragon Fantasy: Book II from Muteki Corporation.

Beyond the 900+ games currently playable on PS Vita, we also have a strong slate of content on the way from our third party and indie partners, including games like Rayman Legends, Batman Arkham Origins: Blackgate, FIFA 14, Luftrausers, Terraria, KickBeat, Stick it To The Man, Lone Survivor, and Proteus. Phew!

PS Vita will be the ultimate companion device to PS4 through key features like “Remote Play,” which allows PS4 games to be instantly playable on PS Vita at home via Wi-Fi.  We currently anticipate that many, if not most, PS4 games will be Remote Play enabled.

If you already own a PS Vita, share your top three favorite games for the system in the comments below. Let’s help new owners decide what to buy!

  • I guess Sony never learned what a significant price cut on the memory cards means.I guess I’ll have to continue waiting probably up to Black Friday :-(

  • Memory Card prices are still ridiculous…

  • 32GB for $80. Hell no.
You can get a 64GB MicroSD card for $40.
Is Sony saying that their special slotted MicroSD card with the PSVita logo and their old format program is worth $80? $40 for a 32GB memory card sounds more reasonable to me, even though there are 64 GB MicroSD cards for the same price.
A third party memory card maker would be nice right about now.

  • C’mon Sony! You own Class 10 32GB Micro SD cards sell for less than the Vita cards! $49.99 would have been a much better price. It’s a start, though.

  • Persona 4 Golden is definitely my best game on the Vita. Then we have LittleBigPlanet Vita and Uncharted: Golden Abyss.

But really, what I like best is that I can get many games that I wouldn’t be otherwise able to get onto my Vita. Nice indie games, PSP games I missed and good ol PS1 games. And now, games from consoles. That’s what I’ve always dreamed of when having a handheld device, console experiences on the go. My forever love is for the Vita and I will always support it.

(Also, you have all Persona games available. Bonus points for lean mean Persona machine)

  • 40 dollars for the 16GB memory card …. wow … im getting one next week … >.> that is … if they still have any next week … Sony please throw out a big supply of new cards to all stores … i hope gamestop doesnt be a jerk and sell them for 45 dollars >.> that would kill their sales

  • That’s what you call “significant price drop on memory cards”????!

Should have been at least 50% cheaper, if not more.

  • $80? Well I’m glad I didn’t pick one up at $100 but that new price point still isn’t going to sell one for me. Check out 32GB Micro SD cards on Newegg: $20. $80 is still ridiculous. You can make a proprietary memory card to combat homebrew (unsuccessfully I might add) and still sell it at its market value you know. :\

To those who want a 64GB card, don’t hold your breath. I can’t find the link anymore but I remember reading that the actual internal architecture of the Vita’s memory cards might be limited to 32GB. Bad call on Sony’s part, but remember at some point during development you have to stop adding new technology or you’ll never finish it. Tiny 64GB+ cards were brand new at the time of the Vita’s unveiling and launch.

  • I’m just glad that online surveys paid for the Vita and the memory card when they first came out. To all those people who haven’t bought a Vita, now is the time to get one. It’s a great system.

  • memory cards are still to high! with PS4 right around the corner wondering if i will have enough to buy a VITA Dought IT!!!! PS3 still has to many good games coming out by years end.to even think about buying one now :)

  • I love my vita and even own a 32 gig stick, but those prices need to come down further. paying more than 50 dollars for 32 gigs in 2013 is worthy of punching ones self in the face.

  • Considering Class 10 32GB SD Cards can be found for under $25, $80 is still insanely overpriced for the size. I’d consider paying that much for a 64GB, but that’s about it. Very disappointing that Sony had to go and force their own type of memory card format instead of using something simple, cheap, and easy like an SD. The still high prices and “one memory card, one account” rule which hinders people playing import and local titles on the same memory card is something that needs drastic reconsideration. And while I appreciate the Vita price drop, I’ll be holding off on any additional purchases until a 2nd generation console is either announced or debunked entirely.

  • Are any of those announced Mega Packs coming to the US, or remaining Europe only?

  • $80 is NOT a “significant” price reduction for the memory cards.
Please Sony explain what makes these cards worth so much more than any other equivalent flash memory?

I love my Vita and have a 32GB card already, but this is not a major price cut.

  • I was ticked off this morning when the PS Vita Walking Dead didn’t come in to the store I pre-ordered it from. Now I am getting $50 back for having to wait a day. Sweet!

    PSN Card here I come!

    Thanks Sony.

  • Glad to see a drop in the memory cards, but I still feel that they are too expensive. The 32gb should be more like $59.99, but again this is a start. Hopefully with the new price and maybe some retailers will have them on special and it could be magic!

  • top 3:
    muramasa rebirth
    soul sacrifice
    street fighter x tekken
no paticular order here, just the ones ive been most sucked into lately. pickin up dragons crown asap n a bigger memory card hopefully if the new prices take effect asap. 20$ savings on a 32g card just paid for a 20$ network card :) thanks sony!!!

  • Waste of a price drop when you don’t have the software lineup to support it, and Vita really doesn’t in North America and Europe. Indie games are great … for people who already own the device. Joe Q Public doesn’t know they exist, so Vita will continue to sell under 15,000 units a month in the US.

  • My top three Vita games?
    1) Persona 4 golden – the game is over 100 hours long!!
    2) Guacamelee
    3) Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward

My top 3 PS plus free games?
    1) Uncharted: Golden Abyss
    2) Gravity Rush
    3) BlazBlue extend

Currently Blazblue is not free through psn plus though. But I got it when it was.

  • Persona 4 Golden
Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational (now on PS3 as well, though)
    Gravity Rush

  • Top 3? Not nearly enough!

    My favorite Vita games:

    1) Gravity Rush
    2) Persona 4: Golden
    3) Guacamelee
    4) LittleBigPlanet Vita
    5) Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time

    And some awesome bonus picks:

    6) Uncharted: Golden Abyss
    7) wipEout 2048
    8) Tokyo Jungle Mobile
    9) Dragon’s Crown
    10) PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale

Those are the ones that haven’t left my system in the time I’ve owned it (since launch day 2012). Can’t go wrong with any of them, and I could honestly list another 10+ that are fantastic. New Vita owners, enjoy!

  • Soul Sacrifice and Killzone Mercenary are soo much fun!

  • I’m not buying another memory card until they are within a reasonable price. $40-$50 for the 32GB sounds better

  • If anybody doesn’t have the vita yet might as well get the walking dead bundle same price, free game, 4 GB card and its 3G/Wi-Fi.

    http://us.playstation.com/psvita/systems/

  • Still too expensive. 32GB Vita memory card is still 300% more expensive than a brand-name retail packaged MicroSD card of the same capacity.

  • @56 Prices for memory cards for Vita have already been changed on Gamestop website. Looks like new 16GB for $39.99.

  • Aaaaand the memory cards are still way overpriced. You’ve already been able to get them for about this price for the last year shopping online, and that doesn’t make it any better.

  • Sweet! I haven’t been able to get a Vita yet and I still have to wait until after the PS4, but this is looking more and more available for my next birthday. I figure the price drop makes up for the crazy memory card price – cool in my book.

  • if they dont make bigger cards im just gunna grab a **** ton of smallers ones :P install games on cards based on genre of game lol. i budget cash from work just for this stuff :P keep it comin sony! cheaper would be nicer but meh

  • Of course. I spend $250 on a WIFI in July: 3G is on sale for $200 in August.

  • same #79 :P bought one for me and one for my brother lol could of saved 100 bones if i waited a few weeks lol

  • @78 + 79 no 30 day price match?

  • $80 for a 32GB memory card? A 32GB SD card is only $25. Hardly a worthy price drop.

  • Need bigger cards! I have a 32gb and 16gb full for my Vita. Just scored a second vita on the cheap and need to upgrade from the 4gb I have in it. Waited for this event figuring the price drop would be announced. Was hoping for a 64gb to use in my main vita and use the 32gb in the second. guess i’ll have to pick up another 16gb or something for the second vita.

  • This is still ridiculous.. the memory cards are stupidly overpriced. I can go and get a 32gb name brand microSD card for $20 or less, so you honestly think $80 for 32gb is a good deal? No, I don’t think so. Sorry but you cannot tell me that there’s something amazingly special about the Vita cards, the microSD card can do the same thing. I still don’t understand why Sony would go with these goofy proprietary memory cards other than to get more money out of people. I love my PS Vita but I hate that Sony is forcing us to buy these ridiculously overpriced memory cards…

  • Where is the next round of PS+ Vita IGC?

  • no clue on the price match :/ would be nice lol. i gotta travel to do it anyway so id end up spending the savings on gas hahahahaha. maybe i could get credit from that to put towards preorders or somethin ??? thanks #81 though, i gots some things to investigate now hahahaha

  • Yeah!
These new memory card prices are still outrageous!
They should be free! Or better yet, you should be paying us to take them off your hands.
I demand you drop the prices some more or else I will hold off buying them until you realize that I’m just too cheap to pay a premium for a premium product.

  • well said 88 hahahahahahaha

  • Already own a vita but i am glad and happy to see that the memory cards have lowered in price

  • Great new price for the Vita! But memory is still way too expensive, in my opinion. I can buy a 32 GB class 10 microSDHC card on Amazon for under $30.

I would love to see the price of high capacity cards hit $1/GB. I would even bite at $2/GB.

I would also love to see 64GB and 128GB cards.

  • top 3.

    Soul Sacrifice

Gravity Rush (free with ps +)

    Mortal Kombat

  • card prices are still WAY over priced. Like i’ve said a few times before, actually many times. No significant price cut, I will refuse to buy a vita game. It just doesn’t make sense. The price of the CARDs and the dumb mistake of not using standard card was a DUMB move sony. Thanks for cutting it at least a little bit.

  • COOL! I’ll get a Vita now!! Hope I can find a memory card bundle!

  • I’m disappointed the vita xl/tablet SKU didn’t turn out to be true. With remote play being as smooth as shown, that would be a winner. Especially if it came with R2/L2/R3/L3.

These memory cards are still too damn expensive btw.

    8GB for $15
    16GB for $30
    32GB for $50

Would be more than fair. Similar, or even better, micro MCs sell for cheaper than that, so this proprietary one needs to drop in price. Also, introduce a 64GB MC SKU already.

  • Gravity Rush
Shin Megami Tensei :Persona 4: the golden
    Need For Speed: Most wanted

  • Any word of higher capacity cards.

  • the memory cards are still too expensive

  • Sony needs a new Vita model. 32GB internal memory and 64 to 128GB card format.

  • Already Have A Vita, But Just Like Everyone Else, The Price Drops Are Fairly Reasonable. My Top Three Games As Of Now Are: Muramasa Rebirth, Persona 4 Golden & Soul Sacrifice. (Can I Add “Dragon’s Crown” As An Extra 4th Top Game? It’s Really Addicting, Lol)
