PS Vita New Price

I’m excited to announce that the PlayStation Vita (PS Vita) system is now available for $199.99 MSRP in North America, making it a compelling value for gamers. With some amazing games coming out in the next few months, including Killzone Mercenary and Tearaway, along with connectivity to the PlayStation 4 (PS4) system through “Remote Play,” now is the perfect time to become a PS Vita owner.

The brand new price applies to all PS Vita systems available at retail, including the limited edition PS Vita Walking Dead bundle that launches this week. We’re also dropping the price of the PS Vita memory cards, as you can see in the chart below.

Along with the new price, we’re currently celebrating PS Vita with two promotions on the PlayStation Store. The PS Vita Japanese Games Sale , running through August 26, offers discounts of up to 50% off on PS Vita games from Japanese developers, including Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and Muramasa Rebirth. PS Plus members can enjoy up to 75% off in the Japanese Game Sale. Additionally, four of the summer’s most anticipated PS Vita titles will launch as part of PS Vita Summer Select , running from August 20 through September 16, with launch week discounts of 20 percent off for PS Plus members. Games featured in PS Vita Summer Select include Spleunky from Mossmouth and Dragon Fantasy: Book II from Muteki Corporation.

Beyond the 900+ games currently playable on PS Vita, we also have a strong slate of content on the way from our third party and indie partners, including games like Rayman Legends, Batman Arkham Origins: Blackgate, FIFA 14, Luftrausers, Terraria, KickBeat, Stick it To The Man, Lone Survivor, and Proteus. Phew!

PS Vita will be the ultimate companion device to PS4 through key features like “Remote Play,” which allows PS4 games to be instantly playable on PS Vita at home via Wi-Fi.  We currently anticipate that many, if not most, PS4 games will be Remote Play enabled.

If you already own a PS Vita, share your top three favorite games for the system in the comments below. Let’s help new owners decide what to buy!

  • I don’t think as a LOYAL PLAYSTATION CONSUMER, that I could justify spending anymore than $39.99. But then that means down the line, each other needs cut by almost half. The price cut, while nice, is still setup up to take advantage of those that want the most possible storage. It’s like you made the 4GB and 8GB affordable for all, but said “were gonna charge the proper price for a 32GB card for the 16, people will still pay that. But then still really overcharge for the 32GB. If they want the best we have to offer, they’ll have to pay through the nose for it.” That’s just not right.

The 16GB memory card needs to be $29.99
The 32GB memory card needs to be $39.99

Both are still overpriced when compared to other similar format memory cards, but they are prices consumers can get their head around. And they are prices that people can realistically justify the step up from a 16GB to a 32GB. That’s the way you market, and that’s the way you price!

  • Nice price drop right now I have a 4 GB that came with the Vita and 2 32GB cards and pretty happy that those who could not afford them can get a break.
    Three Great Can’t Miss games
    Smart As
    DJMax Technica Tune
Phantasy Star Online 2(import for now, crossing fingers for release outside Japan)

I would love to see 64GB and 128GB memory cards soon too, also if not asking too much an Ultraviolet and the previously announced Crunchyroll app.

  • When is the Walking Dead bundle going to be shipped from Amazon?

  • Please release more color for the Ps vita like they have in japan. I want Na version of it in another color. Sounds crazy but color options would help it sell along with the new price cut.

  • Hm, wonder what the price will be in Sweden. The Swedish Playstation site don’t have any info yet.

  • hello fellow customers i am a psm developer and plan on releasing my game dropblast sometime for vita and mobile in late December 2013/ January 2014 i am currently busy with borderlands 2 map packs as you know borderlands 2 will be coming out for vita soon sincerely SCE developer joseph goode,,

  • got my 32 gb card today! Finalllllllly! Got it through gamestop. Used “gust15” code to get 15 bucks off, but after taxes and shipping cost it really comes out to about 72 bucks. Still…been a long time coming and glad its on the way.

  • is this the wifi only or the 3g/wifi?

  • is this the wifi only or the 3g/wifi version thats getting a 199 price tag? i want the 3g option just to have the option even though i may never use the 3g, i like to have it there.

  • Yeah those memory card prices are still too high. The one thing that is killing the Vita is the memory ard prices. What happened to a “significant” price decrease in the memory cards? I hate to break to to you but almost every online retailer sells the 32gb for $84.99 and has for quite some time now. Not very significant.

  • when will the memory card price reduction go into effect? Most retailers (even Sony online store) still show the old prices…

  • Previous vita price was kind of affordable, memory cards are still too expensive, that keeps many people away from renewing or signing up a plus subscription…

  • @#1
They are still too expensive compared to the Micro Memory Stick or Micro SD Cards.
But still, the main thing is done, the Ps Vita has a reasonable price now.

  • Agree with 201.

  • So this will be in gamestop? and wouldnt it lower the price for trading it in? And man do i love the vita, my three fav. games are

Killzone: Mercenary(Will Get the game asap)
    Jetset Radio(Hope theres a sequel)
    Dragon Ball z(if ones made)
NFS MW(Even though i dont have it)
    GTA(if ones made)
    DOA+
PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale(Even though i dont have it)
Doodle God(Demo had me addicted then at the end asked to get full game, awesome game)
The Walking Dead[(Even though i dont have it)(Its the apocalyptic game ive been waiting for)]
Adventure Bar Labyrinth(Game is addicting and hope there’s a sequel)
    Wild Arms(PS1)
Treasures of Motezuma: Blitz(Hope theres a sequel)
PlayStation Home Arcade(Hope we can get playstation homefully, vita can handle it)
C.O.D.(Now im really really hoping theres another call of duty, everyone is hoping, zombies and/or anything haha just like ghosts)

    AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST
PS+, even though i never had it its awesome as ever

And any ideas on more AAA games the vita really need them
    GTA
    L4D
Fallout etc btw you can tell i like free roaming games

  • A 64gig memory card would be very convenient. And I don’t mind paying $99 for it at all.
This also brings the rumor that the vita has no games… Preposterous!
I’m up to my neck in games from all sorts. Indies I much rather be able to play anywhere as I walk a lot and at the same time am in the middle of a long and dreadfully violent combat between sorcerers. Then I can kick all sorts of ass in sfxtekken, mortal kombat, ultimate mvsc 3 and in the same moment, boot up guilty gear xx reload accent cor slash. Not to forget two psp golden fighters: darkstalkers chronicles and ftreet fighter alpha 3 MAX.
    So now… Awesome Vita games… Awesome Ps1 games… Awesome PSP games… I one handleld.
    No games eh?
I keep getting surprized by this machine and I cant wait to see how it will evolve in the future.
The vita is worthy. And so far, it is making his father, his owner and his predecessors proud!

Congratulations for all Sony crew for being this awesome and for caring for us.
You guys are great professionals and all I can say to all the work ans sacrifice you put up for us…
    Is thank you.

  • Ps: Hah! One last complaint. The PS1 and PSP have immense libraries and I’m a huge supoorter of the “classics”. But I’d like to let myself be voiced on how this service could be bombastical in terms of differentiating PSN as a service. So, I plead you representative if sony who might have read this till the end… Support this feature!
Even tho the PSP “died” it lives on through the Vita. Increase the vita compatibility with the ps1/psp library already available. Please! Not only work with compatibility, but also struggle to get more ps1/2 ans portable games available.
Lots of amazing games hidden between past releases and no digital option don’t diserve for oblivion.
This undeniably rich playstation legacy diserves to be the differential it should have been in comparison to other services.

Many thanks for following me till the end and, once again, Thank You and congratulations!
    Heres to a brighter future!

  • The new price of the PS Vita was very well needed and unlike what was at Gamescom, the cards aren’t significantly less by any stretch of the imagination. Since Sony isn’t willing to really lower the prices of the cards by a significant amount, I would like to make a suggestion on what they can do for now while they still decide how much more they can lower it by. Basically they should offer PSN credit. The higher the capacity of the card, the more credit you can get. For example, if you were to purchase a 32GB card, you’d be able to get a $30 credit, purchase a 16GB card and that gets you $15 in credit. This really should be considered.

  • Oh, as some people have noticed, why is it that the Sony store is still showing the original price? Even Amazon somehow didn’t really change their prices since they are selling the 16GB card over retail. This needs to be immediately looked into.

  • Sony apparently missed the memo that they needed to lower the price to a reasonable level. $80 for a 32gb card is terribad. I bought a 30mb/sec class 10 32gb card for my N3DS XL for $24.99. $80 for a class 4 Vita card is a new level of taking it to the man bad.

  • I still want to buy a Vita. And I thought after hearing the price drop to $199 with memory cards getting a “significant” price drop, that now was the time to finally get a Vita which I wanted since launch. The issue is that significant still isn’t significant enough. Even the new lower price is still about 3 to 4 times the cost of any other memory card form factor out right now for 32 GB. And I can share those cards in many devices.

With a Vita card only good in a Vita, I would be willing to pay $40 for 32 GB. Which is about 2 times the cost of other formats. But 3 to 4 times the cost is just way too high still.

Since the Walking Dead bundle for $199 includes a 4 GB vita card, I may get that while I wait for the Vita cards to drop to a more respectable price.

I applaud Sony for it’s dedication to gamers and being an influential force in making sure the Xbox One reversed it’s course. That is a future that I do not want. My PS4 is already ordered and I hope that Sony will finalized better pricing for the Vita memory cards so I can have the complete PSP, Vita, PS3, and PS4 eco system.

  • This is great!!! Just ordered one today and cant wait til it gets here!!

  • Wait … “many if not most”? I thought ALL games were supposed to support remote play. The primary reason I want a PS4 is to play the next Fallout on my upstairs couch. Is it really not going to be required?

  • From what I read, it’ll be mandatory for developers to support it if theirs nothing about the game that needs extra stuff such as the PlayStation camera. That should mean almost all games except for a few in which it’s not possible.

Anyway, the card prices are still the same on the Sony store. $99.99 for the 32GB card and $59.99 for the 16GB card.

  • Great. Just traded in my PSP 3000 for the exact value of my Vita. If I’d known the price was going to drop so soon I would’ve kept my PSP and got the Vita too. The discounted 32 GB Vita memory card is tempting but not quite there yet Sony.

  • I decided to search in regards to the recent announcement on PSVita price drops. Firstly, these prices are close to what Amazon has been selling for the last few months. The prices should of been something like this, 4GB should be non-existent because its pretty much useless. Uncharted Abyss is 2.9GB alone and with a few apps like Netflix and Youtube would max out the Vita Card. The 4GB would be good at either $7.99 or $9.99. The 8GB should be $14.99, 16GB at $29.99 and the 32GB would fit the bill at $59.99. At these prices, Sony would probably be ridiculously be on back-ordered for months as Vita owners would raid the stores…literally! Unfortunately, at the prices I’m seeing announced, I will be holding on to my hard earned money longer until there is a sale. For the time being, I will play a handful of Indie games (which are most under 400MB is size) on my 4GB vita card and continue to buy used PS Vita games.

Lastly, the PSVita is an outstanding device but Its the price on these memory cards that puts on a burden on it.

  • Now I’ll be able to get assassin’s creed 3 that i always wanted and the ps vita. Thanks sony :D

  • This is amazing Sony, but please.. 64GB and 128GB cards! I have SO many big games on my PSN account (Euro though) and I’d like to have all of them on my 64GB+ card instead of having 2x32GB :( And now Killzone is coming and Dragon’s Crown coming to Europe soon… I’m doomed :(
