I’m Al, Senior Producer at Laughing Jackal, and I’m here to tell you about our new PS Vita game, Flame Over.
Flame Over is a fast-paced, action-packed fire-fighting roguelike, featuring randomly generated levels and a complex fire simulation that radiates, jumps between objects, consumes fuel and destroys its environment in real time.
The player’s objective is simple: guide a fire-fighter through the 16 floors of Infernal Industries’ skyscraping HQ, exploring your environment, seeking out loot, secrets and power ups and hunting down blazes against the clock.
All levels in Flame Over are fully destructible and feature different themes, many room types, secret items and hidden levels, environmental hazards and tons of lovely loot and power ups. Nom nom nom!
A fire-fighting game needs a legendary hero, so we bring you Blaze Carruthers, London’s foremost fire-fighting hero. The only thing bigger than Blaze’s heart is his luxuriant moustache, and NO fire is gonna singe its tips!
The idea for Flame Over was born during a fire training day last year. I was watching a video about the chemistry of fire and got thinking about how you’d translate the dangers of fire-fighting into an action game. I spoke with a few industry peers and some of the SCEE team about it, and right away I knew we were on to something hot!
We’ve created a multi-layered random level generator, so the player can never ‘learn’ the best way through each level. Like a real fire-fighter, you’ll be walking into the unknown every time! Each level has its own theme, room type, flammable objects, mini missions, secrets and people to rescue.
Blaze will be discovering each level’s layout using his trusty hose, extinguisher and fire axe to track down blazes, hack through doors and walls and rescue imperilled workers and – of course – save cutesy cats. ^_^
With no two play-throughs ever the same, players can also save out their favorite randomly generated levels, set Challenges and share them with their friends and other players worldwide using PS Vita’s Near app. You’ll also be able to fuel the flame war using more traditional Cash Dash and Time Attack Leaderboards.
Here at LJ Towers, we’re so excited to reveal Flame Over, by far our most ambitious project to date, and we’re thrilled to be working with the awesome guys and gals at Sony to bring the game to PS Vita. It’s really the perfect platform for Flame Over’s fast-paced, bite-sized chunks of action.
Flame Over will be blazing a trail onto PlayStation Vita in Q1 of 2014. In the meantime, you can follow our progress on Laughing Jackal’s blog at www.laughingjackal.co.uk, via LJ’s Twitter feed: @Laughing_Jackal or on our Facebook page.
Thanks for reading. Hope you’re as “fired up” for Flame Over as we are (ouch!).
Cool game
cool concept, any screenshots? gameplay video?
Dat pun…
Elsie would be delighted to play this in Keima’s PFP. I’ll definitely give it a shot.
Hungry Giraffe on PS Minis is one of my guilty pleasures, so I’ll definitely check out your next game!
Give me cutesy dogs and I’m in! ;)
Now this is the originality that the PS Vita needs more of, a concept dealing with firefighter game. This is everything of what’s needed more originality. But not only that but more games for PS Vita only, cross-buy is cool all but more only on PS Vita would be welcomed.
I just think writing a blog without some video to show what your game is about it’s just not right.
Too. many. puns.
Sounds sweet though!
I’ve fallen in love with Roguelikes in recent years, sinking over 150 hours into The Binding of Isaac and over 75 hours into Dungeons of Dredmor (both on Steam). I’m really happy to see a bunch of Roguelikes coming to Vita in the near future and this one sounds truly unique!
There has been a burst of Indie games being announced on this blog in the last 48 hours -__-
Hey, this sounds new and fun.
Thanks for the Vita support, yay!
Are we ever going to get Hungry Giraffe in NA (the native Vita version)?
Looks cool, any news on NA release date for OMG HD Zombies! ?
I’ve been waiting for a game like this since Roscoe McQueen: Firefighter Extreme on PSone! :)
Sounds fun!
