PlayStation Plus: October Preview

I’m a sucker for fantasy. If a game allows it, I’ll create an elf mage because magic is awesome. This month I can do just that as Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is entering the Instant Game Collection. With a tale crafted by NY Times best-selling author R.A. Salvatore, stunning visuals from Todd McFarlane, and a customizable combat system, Reckoning has a lot to offer RPG fans. The mix-and-match combat means I can get my magic fix while also smashing things in the face with a hammer, or stabbing them with a sword and other various pointy weapons, which is pretty cool if you ask me.

Sine Mora on PS VitaKingdoms of Amalur Reckoning on PS3Poker Night 2 on PS3Shadow of the Colossus on PS3Hotline Miami on PS Vita

You may remember that last month we added Team Ico’s original cult classic ICO to the IGC, so their equally beloved sequel Shadow of the Colossus seemed like a natural follow-up. Slaying the majestic Colossi should make you feel something (read: incredibly guilty), but hey, you gotta save your #1 girl, right? In a completely different vein, Plus members will also receive Poker Night 2, which is an amusing twist on the classic card game. With GLaDOS as the dealer and opponents like Claptrap from Borderlands and Ash from Army of Darkness you can sit back, have a laugh and bet all your fake money away.

PS Vita owners are in for a couple treats – both the gorgeous shmup Sine Mora and the critically acclaimed top-down shooter Hotline Miami are joining the Instant Game Collection later this month. Sine Mora boasts stunning backdrops and cinematics as well as a slightly different shoot-em-up mechanic – you are in a constant race against the clock and the only way to get more time is to kill enemies. Hotline Miami embraces hardcore twitch-based play, which means you may need to repeat levels multiple times, but once you get through it it’s incredibly satisfying. Since Hotline Miami is a Cross-Buy title, you’ll be able to download it for both PS Vita and PS3.

These games will hit the Instant Game Collection at various times throughout the month, so check back with us every Monday morning for that week’s update.

  • This month is gona be sweet!

  • Yes! Two full PS Vita games (PSN or no) and I almost bought Sine Mora last week. Glad I didn’t. Was looking to play Kingdoms of Amalur for a while as I love Todd McFarlane’s art direction. Downloading that one now and definitely getting Shadow of the Colossus later. Yearly subscription has already paid for itself.

  • While I love plus and am not complaining at all, I do have to say that this is one of those times I really envy the EU PS+ subscribers. They got Far Cry 3 AND Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen AND Giana Sisters this month! Crazy!

  • Well, even though the selection got a TINY bit better, still the “has been” classics. Don’t get me wrong, Amalur is proving to be kind of fun and all, and the weapons and character-building is neat, but WOW, is this game bug-riddled. Already had to reload the auto-save twice due to glitches and/or getting “stuck in the air” after doing the fate-mode thing… and now, found the bug in the “Heart of Sibun” quest (came to find it’s even mentioned in the Wikia about Amalur after trying to figure out why I couldn’t progress). Seems the “Niskaru” are stuck inside their bubbles, don’t come out… and unfortunately, the game decided to auto-save after I opened the chest in the room (which was, I guess, after the bug actually occurred)… so now, my only option is to try and reload my last manual save… which by the time-stamp, was roughly two hours ago!!!

Oh, no worries, can just contact the game-devs for support… oh wait, no we can’t… they went into bankruptcy for the next seven lifetimes, and if memory serves correctly, they’re now official property of Rhode Island. *facedesk*

Is there any chance the US side of PS Plus can get a reputable game, with high amounts of spotlight, from a company that’s solid enough to have a solid game!? I’m so peeved at the moment, I practically refuse to have to “do over” stuff in games that occur due to bugs, and I’m 99% sure I’m not going to attempt to exactly relive the last two hours of gameplay… therefore, I have two options… continue the rest of the game, leaving this faction quest never finished, and never making it into the faction (Lord knows if that’ll effect the storyline!?)… or, just not bother playing anymore. Since it drives me up the wall to feel like I’m using something that’s broken… it’ll probably be the latter option.

Can only PRAY that MAYBE, just MAYBe we’ll actually get something reputable next month… like all the wonderful gems EU keeps getting… not going to hold my breath though!

  • Cant seem to find SOC, or is the store still updating? cos I can still see ICO

  • @456 (Syn_v3) A new game is added each week on Tuesday… the first one was Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. They’ll add another new game this upcoming Tuesday, which might be SotC, or could be Poker Nights 2, depending on which order they decide to list them in.

  • oh they finally have games i would consider psplus to play, except I cant, because of the latest pointless update *one that alters TROPHIES no less, the lamest concept ever invented*.
IM sitting here trying to install the newest update for the 37th time and keep getting error code 8002f310 . funny how the system was perfectly fine before the latest update ruined everything . thanks sony losers, I hope somebody starts a class action suit so I can join it!

  • Can you guys post which days which games will be available? And the hotline miami it sais vita/ps3, crossbuy. does that mean we’re getting both copies?

with Sine Mora on vita, i’m likely to get a– nope, two different versions. No cross buy or cross save and… just got it for pc in the latest Humble Weekly. Thanks though! maybe with vita ultimate control–NOPE AS WELL… ok i guess

  • really gawdsmak? really?

umm i wish you luck in life i guess…don’t vote EA the worst company next year. it’s a bad look

  • This month looks to be very good. I’m much happier knowing all the free games at the beginning of the month, as it gives something to look forward to. I’m extremely excited to get my claws on Hotline Miami! Wanted to play Amalur too.Everything looks great this month, actually. I already bought SotC when it was like $5 though– no big deal. Poker Night 2 is also awesome. Thank you, Sony!

  • Great, Hotline Miami and Shadow of the colossus for me. Is it just me or the discounts on PSN are not as attractive as they used to be?

    My IGC and discount wishlist:
    – Need For Speed Most Wanted (Or any decent racing game)
    – A sports game maybe, NHL 12 or 13 or Fifa
    – Braid
    – Portal 1-2
    – Ratchet and clank (makes sense if Insomniac and sony want to market Into the nexus)
    – Jak & Daxter Collection
    – Heavy Rain
    – Resistence 3
    – Tomb Raider
    – Stacking
    – Papo & Yo
    – The Unfinished Swan
    – Hotline Miami
    – Twisted Metal
    – Lone Survivor
    – Quantum Concondrum
    – Catherine
    – Starhawk
    – Dead Space 3

  • oh…I forgot to scratch Hotline miami from my list. Sorry about that :P

  • Seriously need the dates when some of the games will be available, it would help if you posted the dates the games come online, akin to how PS+ EU does it, that way I can stop stressing on not seeing some titles in the store, like as of right now, still no SOC, Hotline Miami, Poker Night or Sine Mora, only reckoning is in the Store.

  • @458-Gawdsmak, you look like a troll dude, you arent even a PS+ member for that matter,go troll some other forums buddy, no ones interested in your fake issues.

  • This is pretty great, but I would also love to see games from the EU lineup in the near future.

  • Ever since I saw Saints Row 3 as a free benefit to plus members a mere 2 weeks after buying my ps3 I bought a ps+ membership and it hasn’t failed to deliver! I’ve been meaning to tackle the team Ico games and now I’m glad I can do so for free!!!

  • It’s getting better! Hey when will Dark Souls come on the PSN?

  • Don’t get me wrong, SotC, is awesme… but Europe is getting Metal Gear Rising!, I mean, I’m gonna be fully honest here, I’m poor, or at least not enough money to buy all the games I want, so I’ve been waiting fot Metal Gear Rising to come out on PC just to pirate it…. is up to you PS if i get it legally in my PS plus :P
