The Drop: New PlayStation Releases for October 1st, 2013

The Drop

Journey through a haunting city soaked in rain, or blaze across the courts with a cheering crowd in your ear — this week greets a number of thrilling new releases joining the PlayStation family.

In Rain, gamers will explore the streets, alleys, and awnings of a haunting city saturated by rain. As an invisible boy, players must use the rain around them to perceive their small hero running through the world, pursuing a similarly ghostly girl, while avoiding a malevolent force. Rain blends this adventure together with unique puzzles to create a wholly original experience.

But if you’d rather go hard and go loud, perhaps NBA 2K14 will be your preferred game for the week. The next entry in the long-running series, NBA 2K14 aims to bring you the best basketball you can find in gaming. Witness the return of the multiplayer Crew mode, the inclusion of Euroleague, a dynamic living roster, and a killer soundtrack.

PlayStation will also enjoy the arrival of another PS2 classic in the form of Fatal Frame III: The Tormented. Prepare to sleep with the lights on.

Isn’t GTA Online also dropping this week?

Glad there will be a demo of Beyond: Two Souls.

Surprised GTA Online didn’t make the list. Looking forward to NBA 2k, as always.

I would highly recommend downloading the BEYOND: Two Souls demo. I have early access to the demo and it’s amazing.

Nice releases, I played Beyond demo and hope they fix the sound issue I could not hear anything through my surround sound headsets. Might get Fatal Frame and Rain :-D

GTA Online isn’t a seperate download. It’s part of the GTA disc . Make sense that they didn’t list it.

Flashback is only good if you want to play the original version, the remake is awful.

More Fatal Frame? Hellll yeaaaaaaa

Can you put the description of the game next to the picture? This format seems very strange and unless you know these games, you cannot tell which description goes to which picture. It would also save space in the formatting.

    Thank you for the feedback!

We really like the format we’re working towards right now, but we always appreciate these notes.

My reasoning behind that specific visual format above: the games listed are in alphabetical order, and so are their respective images. So while the NBA image doesn’t line up with its corresponding entry on the list, it still falls in alphabetical order compared with the other images.

The images used serve as a quick, “visual overview” of the week’s releases. There would be the danger of serious clutter if we used an image for every game dropping (especially during busy weeks), so that’s why I opted for a more selective approach.

Hopefully this makes sense, and thanks again for your thoughts!

    Cheers.

GTA Online isn’t a separate download, so it will most likely be an update or patch for GTAV as all the content is already on the GTAV disc/download. If they had listed it it would imply that you can buy it separately, but you can’t.

@15 That’s Atelier Totori you’re thinking of, this is the sequel.
@ Ryan Do you know if there are plans to make PS2 classics compatible with vita or if it’s even possible? I would buy a lot more of them if I could play them on the go.

I’m sure it is likely, Fatal Frame 3 will be $9.99 THANK U SO MUCH FOR PUTTING THIS GAME ON PSN! This is the one FF game on PS2 i never got to play, i remember seeing it in a gamestop “New” for $49.99 many years ago. Can’t wait to download this.

@15 wow you”re right. I never noticed it on there. They did that with Atelier Totori Plus too. They just released it without telling anyone. This wasn’t even announced on the playstation store update though. Weird.

Flashback and Rain should have had Vita versions.

Platformers are PERFECT for the Vita; when will devs realize that?!

+ thebiglouie on September 29th, 2013 at 10:58 am said:

About the Atelier game:

It was released a few weeks ago, but only as a bundle with some costumes. This Tuesday, the bundle will be replaced in the store with the game by itself. This makes it show up as a new game or a re-release, which is what is causing some confusion here.

Tecmo Koei does this with most of their Vita games: limited-time bundle for the first month, then re-release of the game by itself after that.

Battlefield 4 beta is also coming out this week: Tuesday for BF3 Premium and MoH Warfighter LE owners, Friday for everyone else.

@Ryan Clements
I’m sorry Ryan, but I’m going to have to agree with JlSlippers remarks on the image alignment. While I get it and I was able to pickup on it, it did take more brain power than I was willing to commit to it while I was taking a quick glance at the drop. I also don’t see these things happening over at IGN’s website either, Images are always paired with subject there as well. A site I’m assuming you should be very familiar with given your previous employ.

Ryan, just slap the logo for each game in the corner of every image and you’ll be golden. I get what you’re going for, but to someone unfamiliar with these games, they might have no idea which game the images are from. Like, Rain is at the top, but the after that is Fatal Frame, I think, but might be Die!Die!Die!. I don’t know what Die!Die!Die! looks like.

Just a suggestion.

Still not a fan. I think each title should have an image or logo associated with it in addition to it’s Publisher/Developer. The nature of the new Drop format is very exclusionary towards independant or otherwise smaller games.

Thirdly, any word on Suikoden 2 for PSX and Haunting Grounds releasing soon on US PSN?
