CastleStorm Coming to PS3 and PS Vita on November 5th

Welcome to the world of CastleStorm, a super genre mashup of 2D physics destruction mixed with tower defense brawling! The idea for CastleStorm came from fond childhood memories of building LEGO castles and then (of course) destroying them. If you want to know more about the inspiration behind the game, and meet the team who created it, watch the developer diary.

We know many of you have been waiting for CastleStorm to arrive on PlayStation, so today we’re happy to announce that CastleStorm is coming on November 5th for $9.99, with cross buy support. Pick up the game on PS3 and get it on PS Vita at no charge. For those of you who haven’t heard about the game, here’s the scoop…

It’s Knights vs. Vikings in CastleStorm, where medieval warfare meets 2D, physics-based destruction. Controlling the battle in real time, players will harness the power of medieval artillery, manage a fearsome ground attack, and cast powerful spells. CastleStorm features a story-driven solo campaign, a custom castle editor, online multiplayer, co-op modes, and more. Building castles and knocking them down has never been so much fun!

For those of you who like to build and create, CastleStorm features a tower construction editor so you can construct your own custom castles that will be used in battle (including online multiplayer). Castles must be constructed wisely, as choices determine which types of troops and resources will be available during battle! Watch this video for a bit more info on proper castle building etiquette.

Multiplayer Details

  • 1 vs. 1 split-screen mode: Simply try and beat your opponent by bashing in their castle. Choose your side — the noble Knights or the ragtag Vikings — and then choose your arsenal of weapons wisely. Face off castle to castle, and the first to completely demolish his or her opponent’s castle wins! This mode is only available on PS3.
  • Survival Co-op: Two players team up to fight off waves of enemies together. Assign one player to control the ballista and the other to control ground forces. Good timing and great aim are essential in Survival Co-op, as friendly fire could be harmful to your own troops on the ground.
  • Last Stand Co-op mode: Would you rather ditch the castle and do some hand-to-hand combat out in the battlefield? Check out the Last Stand Co-op mode, where both players control a hero and battle wave after wave of enemies together. The object is to stay alive as long as you can, but remember, enemies can come from either side, so be ready. Please note that we recommend using wi-fi on PS Vita when playing online multiplayer for the best experience.

Multiple paths to victory means you get to choose how to defeat your enemy. Capture the flag, destroy their castle, or complete another predetermined level objective in order to claim victory. Each level features multiple objectives, each with their own rewards.

CastleStorm on PS3 and PS Vita

CastleStorm also features an arsenal that would make any medieval warrior proud. Harness the power of medieval ballista weaponry, and launch an assortment of explosive weapons, including Morningstars, Apple Grenades, Homing Eagles, and even flying sheep (Yes, really!) to defeat an onslaught of enemies trying to capture your flag and destroy your castle.

Deploy a fearsome ground attack of swordsmen, knights, and donkey riders in order to protect your castle, and if all else fails, call upon powerful spells to help keep the enemy at bay.

CastleStorm also features an original soundtrack by Waterflame, who worked on Castle Crashers! We invite everyone to listen to the soundtrack for free on YouTube.

See you on the battlefield on November 5th!

  • Trust me guys this game is a blast. Picked it up on PC awhile back and have already logged a ton of hours. Cross buy support pretty much confirms I’ll double dip on PS3 and Vita.

Keep the great games and pinball tables coming Zen.

  • Considering Angry Birds is $39,99 I might as well pick this one instead

  • One word…FINALLY!!!!

If Zen’s name is on the game, you know you’re getting quality. Can’t wait to play on both systems.

  • Finally! I don’t remember it being announced for Vita before, that’s a nice surprise. :)

  • I join in with the “FINALLY!” comment, cause, damn, finally!
Really looking forward to this and, please, also release this on PS4 as soon as you can, don’t want it to “get lost” in the upcoming PS4 action, sure, still leaves Vita, but yeah, it would be great to have it on PS4 as well.

Thanks for this, looking forward to it, and hoping the best for a PS4 version as well.

    Greetings,
    RealZero

  • It’s like a modern-day rampart! Anybody else remember that game? Can’t wait!

  • What a nice surprise, I didn’t know this game existed but now I am looking forward to getting this for my vita!

  • This game looks like a lot of fun. I hope its not too cluttered on the Vita screen because thats the version i’m gonna pick up!

  • Definitely going to pick this up. Any plans on a PS4 version.

  • Awesome! I’m not longer playing on my Xbox 360 so this is one of the few games I was sad I was missing out on. But not anymore!

Are you also planning to release the DLC on PSN?

    Thanks.

  • PS developers take note. This is how you do it. Cross-buy is a major deal-breaker for PS3/Vita owners. Add in the fact that there are split-screen, co-op, and online modes plus a custom castle-building tool…

Again, PS developers take note that THIS is how you build a game. Upon reading the features I’m 95% on the “will buy” list.

PS – Agree with #1, keep the pinball tables coming. That’s most used game for me on the Vita. Zen is by-far one of the most solid Sony partners.

  • BEAUTIFUL.

    WILL BUY!

    Thanks Bobby.

  • finally! Though i wish it came in Oct so I could use money on it towards the get $10 back promotion

  • Thanks Bobby.

I agree with johnnyp70 that if Zen’s name is on it, it’s a quality product.

Want this for my Vita and glad it’s cross buy.

  • YES!!!!!! How awesome is this news! Your Balance of the Force is truly amazing as well! I am so proud to support you guys! Keep up the great work!

    • Thanks! Glad you’re enjoying the new tables – I am so proud of our designers, they went all out on the Balance of the Force pack!

  • so cool

  • Looks interesting. wish it didn’t come out the same day as Ghosts though. not sure i’ll have time to play this. :(

  • “The idea for CastleStorm came from fond childhood memories of building LEGO castles and then (of course) destroying them.”

This is the only way to play with LEGO :p.

Also, Survival mode sounds like a lot of fun. Well definitely be picking this up.

    • Right?! It’s not fun unless you’re smashing stuff to bits! Luckily you get to do that a LOT in CastleStorm :)

  • It’s a pleasure to announce that we, here in Brazil, are very happy with Sony’s annoucement about our official PS4 price of R$ 3,999.00 or US$ 1,848.91 and the suggested game prices of R$ 179.00 or US$ 82.76. It has been a long and anxious wait for this pronouncement. I can’t explain how that makes us all happy here. Finally we understand how a so powerful console can cost only US$ 399.00 in the USA. I can’t wait to join my new console with the other Sony’s products: 2 Sony Vaio (SVS13A17GBB and SVF14A17PBS), 2 PSP (model 3010 both), 1 PS3, 1 PSVita, 1 Bravia Sony and 1 Sony Xperia ZQ. And this account is all full of games bought in PSN.

    Thanks, Sony!

  • This looks fun. Is a demo available?

  • This looks like a ton of fun! Can’t wait to pick it up, especially with cross-buy. Zen delivers again!

  • Just watched a gameplay.. looks like tons of fun. :)

  • Sweetness. Looks like my Vita will be getting some extra love!

  • Awesome! I’ve been waiting for this one for a loooong time.

Will this have a platinum trophy?

  • To Zen Studios – Thanks for bringing this to Vita. We love the cross-buy and cross-play features. If you build it, we will buy it (unless it’s garbage)!

  • This game is amazing, I picked it up on the PC you will not be disappointed!

  • This looks like SO much fun!

  • With most developers falling down on the promise of remote play for PS3 games when the Vita was announced, it’s great to see a developer who honors the original intention behind that promise with cross-buy for many of its titles where feasible.

  • Haha, definitely getting this over Angry Birds. Cross-Buy and most likely going to be much less than $39.99 at release. You’ve got my money!

  • Hadn’t heard of it before, looks like fun. Nice price.

  • Nice. I almost bought this on steam but I thought I’d wait too see if it would come to the Vita. For once my patience paid off.

  • Wait, is this cross platform play as well? Either way, still getting it. Just want to know if I can play against ps3 people on my vita.

  • is the dlc coming as well?

  • Epic I would love to play this :D

  • 1 – Zen Studios = including you Bobby Loertscher ;)

You are one of the BEST DEVELOPERS OF THIS YEAR!

CONGRATULATIONS! I´m COMPLETELY HAPPY with your job!

    – Zen Pinball games;
    – Kick Beat.

    Continue this MAGNIFICENT JOOB!

    ============================
2 – Doubt about Star Wars Pinball (the last 3 tables launched).

    – I noticed in PSN Store there are two options to buy:

    – One, for the new Star Wars 3 new machines pack Pinball only;
    – Another the same 3 Star Wars machines but for Zen Pinball 2 game pack!

My doubt is: If I decide to buy this Star Wars pack (this new one), for Zen Pinball 2, this purchase, is possible to download to Star Wars Pinball game (and vice-versa)????

  • ………….. sorry for the double post….

    ============================

    3 – Suggestion:

When you finish the gameplay, is possible to registry the record!

So, everytime, I need to put the “3 letters” (initials) to input my score (record)….

The suggestion is: Just create a kind of “DEFAULT CONFIG” to registry the “3 letters” (initials) and everytime when you finish the game this input automaticaly!

… And if somebody decides to change = input another different name to registry!

    ============================

    AGAIN!…. CONGRATULATIONS FOR YOU!

I Promisse you to buy more games!

    THANK YOU! ;)

  • This looks super fun.

  • Hmmm lets see.

    1.Castle sieges.(check)
2.Rampart like gameplay only with the benefits of todays technology.(check)
    3.Multiplayer(check)
    4.Crossbuy.(check)

You will definately have my money, that is if you make it at a price that makes sense.
If not I will wait for a sale that you may have (eventually)

    Look foward to it ;)

  • Why no online multiplayer :(

  • Kinda reminds me of the style mash-up that was Slam Bolt Scrappers, which we really really liked. Looking forward to trying a demo of this! :)

When my husband travels, he takes our Vita with him and we can some games online. Both our PS3 and VIta are on the same PSN account, and some games don’t allow different devices on the same account to play against eachother (Zen Pinball being one that doesn’t work). Will this game allow us to play eachother, one person on Vita and one person on PS3, with both people under the same PSN account?

PS: Love Zen Pinball, but will the “sparks” on the Tesla table every be re-introduced? They were *awesome* looking in the original Zen Pinball, but were absent from Zen Pinball 2.

  • Day one purchase on Vita. This game looks awesome, love the mechanics, love the art. Hopefully it runs at least 30 fps on Vita.

    Good luck with launch!

  • FINALLY!!!!! This is my most anticipated vita game. Glad to see cross-buy. Is there cross-save and cross-play (i.e. ps3 vs vita)?

  • It baffles me why game journalist are saying the PS Vita is doomed, with all these great games coming to the platform. PS4 day 1 shipping I’m out

  • wow hade to log in just to comment. this looks great to me and worth 10$ 100%. reminds me of the browser game Crush The Castle. angry birds style, plus a level editor ? these are the kind of games i look forward to. day 1 buy.

  • ALSO, can you play the modes with bots and can you create castles for single play ?

  • YAY PS3 and Vita plus cross-buy…thank you Zen.Any chance of a demo?

  • @ 6 Evilmanta – Are you talking about that game on PS1 where we would play as giant animals causing havoc all over the city?…if yes then damn man I have some fond memories of that game.

  • Is this digital release only?
