SCE Worldwide Studios and the team at Evolution Studios have made the difficult decision to delay the release of DRIVECLUB and DRIVECLUB PlayStation Plus Edition until early 2014. DRIVECLUB will be a truly innovative, socially connected racing game, but the team requires more time in order to deliver on their vision — and I’m fully confident the game will surpass your expectations.
This decision also affects PlayStation Plus members’ Instant Game Collection for launch. To be clear, DRIVECLUB PlayStation Plus Edition will still be part of the Instant Game Collection when it is released. For the PS4 launch, in addition to Resogun, I’m pleased to announce that Contrast, the highly anticipated game from Compulsion Games will also be available to PlayStation Plus members for free as part of Instant Game Collection. If you’re not aware of Contrast, it will whisk you away to a surreal vaudevillian, film-noir inspired reality full of performance, intrigue, shadow-play and drama. Please check out the trailer below. I’m sure you’ll agree that it is unlike anything you will have played before.
We’re also offering members access to an exclusive “Open Weekend” trial of Killzone Shadow Fall multiplayer on December 28-29.
We understand that the delay is disappointing news, but can assure you that the reason we have made this decision is to ensure that when DRIVECLUB launches, it will realize the next-gen racing vision. And PlayStation 4 gamers will have no shortage of titles to play this year. At launch alone, we have Killzone Shadow Fall, Knack, Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, FIFA 14, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and Battlefield 4 to name but a few, as well as the incredible list of indie games coming to PS4. A broad portfolio of games will be available on PS4 before the end of the year, and with games such as inFAMOUS Second Son, The Order 1886, Destiny, Watch Dogs and now DRIVECLUB coming next year, the strength of the software line-up on PS4 is unprecedented.
DRIVECLUB is a really ambitious racing title and the game is looking stunning. The extra time we’re giving the team means the visuals and overall experience are only going to get better. We can assure you that it will be worth the wait.

This was the only game that I was interested in, I pre-ordered Knack too but that’s not enough. Time to find another game I guess, but the selection is limited. There are games, but all of them don’t appeal to everyone so I could understand the frustration. Also, not everyone’s going to get a PlayStation 4 just to play indie games on it. Most people want AAA games that demonstrates the potential power of the PS4, not some 8-bit game that looks like it came from the NES.

I’m not planning to get a PS4 at this time, but sad to hear this news. But if I was, I wouldn’t cancel my PS4 pre-order because of this. Cancelling it would only hurt Sony even more and there will be less 3rd party support on the new system. You guys don’t want that to happen, don’t you? But then again, I don’t buy consoles at launch because of how much I have to pay for one.
Let’s hope Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Gran Turismo 6 doesn’t get delayed as well. I plan to get those games. At least GT6 won’t be competing with Driveclub.
this is extremely disappointing, the PS4 was already short on games to begin with, now with Watch Dogs and Drive Club gone i’m really wondering what is the use of the pre-order I made (no, bragging rights don’t mean anything). please give us more serious titles sony, indie is good but can only take you so far ..

The discrepancy is due to import fees and taxes, which make up between 60 and 70 percent of the cost, according to a Sony Brazil representative..
I ain’t even mad. I was so close to preordering Contrast on PC last night. I’ll take it over Driveclub, especially knowing that I’ll be getting Driveclub later.

Thank you for giving ‘Contrast’ to Plus members as a means of making up for Driveclub’s delay. Sad to hear the news but Contrast sounds like a very interesting game. I look forward to getting to play it when I pick up my PS4.

The biggest problem I’ve seen with candling these launch titles is with retailers canceling customer’s pre-orders on PS4 system bundles!
Luckily I choose to order only the system, but for those who wanted to show their support and buy more, thy are getting royally $&?!?$ out of a system now. This is really unfair IMO. At the very least Sony should make it up to retailers somehow so they won’t take any losses and in return just replace the bundle preorders with launch systems.
I genuinely feel bad for these people.
I still think the PS4 could have done well with another 6 months of prep.
With PS3 titles like GTA V, Beyond: Two Souls, The Last of Us, GT6, Ratchet & Clank into the Nexus.
We could have more time to enjoy those and pick up the PS4 when t has a killer launch with games like inFamous: Second Son, Watch Dogs, Drive Club, and so on.
Yes, both Watch Dogs & DriveClub will benefit from a delay..

For those excited about PS4 why not inform those people of plans to release your exclusive color choices for DS4 controllers? Maybe even Sony’s Branded charging dock for DS4? Both of these are absent from NA news.
As for PS+ I am thrilled to hear we get 2 great games for free at launch. I hope you guys don’t forget about PS3 & PSVita free games as well as your always awesome discounts for Plus members when PS4 streets.

Why are even bothering releasing the PS4??? Maybe 3rd party games and indies will all what we get at launch… SONY, this is not how you show MS you strength. They will be laughing at you and I do that, too.. Just laughable ye sad, very sad XD

I have mixed feelings about all of this. While it is disappointing that Driveclub (and now Watch Dogs as I’m learning) are both delayed until 2014, I’m all for taking extra time to improve a game. On top of that, I doubt I’ll be getting a PS4 at launch, but at least I won’t be missing out on two of my highly anticipated games (yet).
I never preordered the ps4 anyways and was going to try to get one at midnight release and was excited about this being free to me on my main plus psn account and then I hear this delay. All the other ps4 games don’t amuse me at all. So now. I will just wait till next near or a price drop on ps4 or bundles to come out and instead get myself a straight talk 64 gig iPhone 5 for 800 bucks instead. I’ll need the 400 bucks I already have aside for ps4 towards the iPhone 5 purchase next month. Thanks for making my decision for me Sony!

Fine by me. This game looks interesting, but it’s not one of my priorities. I’ll have more than enough with KZ:SF, ACIV and probably BF4. And even if I run out of PS4 games, I can go back to finish my PS3 backlog.

Well that sucks! A kick ass driving game is to be replaced by Canabalt on steroids. My PS4 pre-order will be cancelled tomorrow morning. I’ll still purchase, but I refuse to have a paperweight sitting on my shelf until kick ass games like Watch Dogs, DRIVECLUB, and Destiny release. And Watch Dogs & DRIVECLUB probably just lost my interest too, unless they release long before Destiny is set to release. Looks like I’ll be black & green for Christmas instead of Black & Blue. Strong out of the gate, but lost the race in the end.

lol I’m having fun reading all these people reacting to the delays. Go ahead and cancel your preorder xD BTW Driveclub that’s free for +members is not the same as the retail version. For a good example, check out DOA5U Core Fighter. Basically you’re getting the core of the game, not the complete list of cars, tracks, and tune-ups etc. I’m glad these games are being pulled back for a good tune-up because I don’t like rushed games. So funny seeing all these crybabies throwing out their cancellation threats! hahah

Stop defending these guys with delaying of games. They have had plenty of time getting these games ready for launch. Maybe if they actually spent more time with getting games complete instead of e3 hype and promises of launch day release and preorders they would be ready and could do their job testing these games for once. Let me just tell my boss I’ll be done with my project next week on friday and then wait till thursday knowing i can’t get it done by friday but lead him own thinking I can while still getting payed for a project I can’t complete on time. Guess what happens to me when friday comes and the project isn’t done? I’m fired! This lazy trend to have years and years to make games and they tell us they will be ready on a certain date just to accept preorders and hype it to just delay last minute needs to stop. Its unprofessional big time.
But why am I kidding myself over games these days. Look at the GTA5 mess. Hype and hype made billions and yet major issues with their online even today. They said they were ready before launch. 99% of games delayed ate still glitched after the delay and never really completed. Having internet has made these developers super LAZY. Remember when games on ps1 and PS2 were final and pretty much glitch free and complete not needing patches cause they couldn’t get patches. They had to be done and glitch free before released. Not in a internet age, they get their money and fix later. Its laziness!

I am rather satisfied by this turn of events.
So what PS+ will have ZERO, nothing, for ps4 at launch.
They are not just pushing a game back, they are pushing promised goods and services for PS+ members back as well.
PS+ is optional now and Sony makes worth it. So many amazing (and not so amazing) free games and discoutnts. But it is basicly required for PS4 and many of us were asking whats the point then? Is is still going to be speical. The answer was: Of course it is! To show you we are going to give you a FREE ps4 game at launch..

I was not very interested in Contrast until they said it was going to be free so I looked up info on it and I really like this game now. I must say that even if it wasnt free I would have bought it.
I had no interest in Drive Club whatsoever but Contrast the moment I saw the trailer I fell in love with it. I am perfectly fine with this delay.
I did not even know about this game being an PlayStation Plus Edition game to play . Drive club looks sick i really don’t mind them taking time to make it really good just my thoughts .
