For example, the PS4 edition of Flower features more responsive motion controls, enabling players to more easily guide flower petals. DUALSHOCK 4′s SIXAXIS motion sensor is even precise enough for text input. In this optional mode, PS4 users can “point” at different letters using the DUALSHOCK 4 controller to form words.

DUALSHOCK 4′s multiple vibration motors give PS4 games a greater degree of expression and immersion.

I’ve heard that DUALSHOCK 4 features less “latency” than other controllers. What does this mean?

All wireless devices experience some form of latency, a tiny delay between, say, pushing a button and seeing an action performed onscreen. + MikeB14085 ,

apparently a lot of people do there , MikeB14085, You see, the masses, like me, like the universal appeal of a gaming platform and a multimedia center.

Its not just about gaming, its the fact that i like to stream movies from my liquid cooled , kick-ass desktop server to my playstation from across the house, as well as music, or my wife or kid can from their computers in their separate areas of the house as well.

I also like to use the Sony Pulse Wireless headset, you know, the one for gaming , and the PlayStation 3.

The compatibility we speak of , is very easy to implement, and would not be hard to do, unless that is, the parent company, Sony , wants to nickle and dime you and force you to their vision. to be a sheep and blindly follow the herd.

are you a sheep ,MikeB14085? just checking.

I also like to buy music, of course I can rip it off the internet, but i am fairly well off, from a successful career in guess what?
Computer Graphic programming, in fact , I bet you have played one of the games I submitted artwork for that made it live.
cheers

Don;t cancel your orders.. Sony may change their minds and then you won’t have a PS4.

Instead wait for a definitive answer and if they say no then SELL your unopened PS4 for $700 and make a few bucks.
This will cover your XBone or beef up your PC.. whichever makes you happy.

I’m pretty sure Sony is going to add, at the very least, MP3 playback. To have a machine as great as the PS4 sitting next to your A/V receiver and NOT play mp3 music is, for the last of a better word, idiotic.

Dear Sony,

A bunch of friends & I from work have been planning to attend your midnight release at our local electronics store for a long time. We have all been PS fans since The day it released in ’94.
As each new console came out releasing new features for us to love, we in turn fell more in love with the product & brand. In turn once again we were able to share the system with our families & make them also fall in love with the ability to stream movies/music right through the system and into our surround sound, all while putting up a lovely visual of earth on the screen for people to gander at while walking by or even sitting in the living room during house parties.
The PS3 isn’t just a gaming console, it is a whole home entertainment system. And now the thought of me having to hold on to this old technology because you don’t wish to enable them in your “next-gen” system is sickening. I find it sickening. My friends all find it sickening.

On top of that if my wife wants to listen to music through the speakers in our house, we would have to shell out even more money a month for music unlimited? (by more, I mean I’m also a PS+ member since you’ll need it for online play for most ps4 games. This feature I don’t mind, I welcome.)
For this though, I & my friends at work are all putting our respective foot down.
How dare you.
How dare you take away loved features & call your system next-gen.
Also, I’m extremely confused about the CD thing. It is an optical drive.
I may not know a ton about them but I’ve taken enough apart & put them back together to know that an optical drive that can play dvd’s should be able to play cd’s as well. I have never heard of that sideways limitation. It sounds more like a forced limitation for you to try and push us to sub to the unlimited service.
NO, what you’re making all my friends & I do right now is to debate with each other over the next few days about if we’re going to be waiting for the xbox or not.

Signed,

A waning group of fans since day 1

REALLY ?? SONY… WHY NO OFFICIAL RESPONSE ??

You must have expected this backlash after posting that detailed FAQ, surely ?

BTW THIS is your customer base TELLING you that it is NOT HAPPY with the fact that you have taken away core functionality from the PS4 – functionality that has been around for years and in it’s predecessor the PS3.

Putting aside the MP3 and DLNA debacle which in itself is utterly ridiculous. How can the PS4 not support external USB hard drives ? How am I supposed to back up my data ? I was hoping that with the PS4 we would be given better PSN profile management and be able to backup/restore our profile data – as opposed to doing a FULL system backup.

Forget that – I can’t even get past the first obstacle of being able to connect an external USB drive !!! May as well strip out those USB ports then – save some more money in the process.

If this functrionality is simply not ready for launch – then don’t say “NOT SUPPORTED” – be explicit about it and say “WILL BE SUPPORTED IN THE NEAR FUTURE”

PS4 = “IT ONLY HAS EVERYTHING – BUT CAN’T DO ANYTHING…”

first of all: i am really looking forward to get hands on the ps4 (already ordered in june)…

BUT there are some “issues” which are really UNBELIEVABLE:

- no support of bluetoothheadsets !?
- no support of an external HDD !?
- no support of mp3 !?

seriously: i play exclusiv on playstation since the middle of the 90′s – but this is a really unbelievable step “backward” and not worthily for “next generation”!!!

I hope enough people are against the not being able to play mp3′s so it gets changed but what I wanna know is can you transfer your games from the disc’s directly to your ps4 or anything similar? I’m hearing that the ps4 games now tell you how big the game file is so I was wondering if that’s why, because the main thing I wanna know is how players that purchase discs can do all the so called multi tasking and switching between games if we still have to switch discs. I for one prefer actual discs and having the case and reading thru the manual before I play over having my game online where I can possibly lose it.
I would rather know before I purchase any games if I need to only purchase online copies for the full multitasking and switching and instant gaming experience.

Also I would love the ability to change backgrounds and use dynamic themes again like on the ps3 as well as being able to listen to my own collection on mp3′s as I game, I really want my own customisation and feeling not the same generic background as everyone else,

Things that Sony needs to be sure the PS4 does:

1. We need a DLNA media player, come on. you invented the standard and have us hooked on using our PS3′s w/our Twonky servers. Also, please remove the Cinavia DRM check on m4v and mkv files. It’s very annoying when I buy a bluray to rip to digital format (i like to have my own digital copy and a DRM laced ultraviolet copy) and have it not work on the PS3 due to Cinavia DRM being embedded in movie’s video/audio. Why are you hurting me for buying a bluray?

2. MP3/m4a support should be available day one. Streaming is nice but having local media trumps a bad or wonky internet connection any day or even an internet outage.

These are my only two concerns in regards to the PS4 and it’s features. :)

To everyone complaining about the lack of replies… on the european FAQ, we have 0 replies.

But if you read the FAQ, it does state to ask all your questions in this reply box, and they will answer them all in an FAQ update. I quote: “We will continue to update this FAQ leading up to launch and post-launch, integrating new answers to your questions and additional details as they are confirmed.”

Which is cool, but does mean that you have to re-read the FAQ every day to see if something new was added or answered. Like for example:

Will PS4 support media servers or DLNA support in order to stream videos or movies from a home PC?
The PS4 system does not support client functionality* for media servers.
*We appreciate your feedback and are exploring possibilities.

No support for audio CD-s?

No support for media servers?

No backward compatibility?

Ps3 is for me, maybe I’ll buy ps4 when ps5 launches!

I had a preorder for the ps4 and was excited.
Now I’m rethinking due to this article.
No streaming video from client server or from USB stick is a big feature that was used regularly on the old ps3.
I expected it to be there in the new ps4.
There was no backwards comparability with older consoles and you didn’t meantion any server side gameplay for ps3 games in this FAQ as I heard about on launch. Has this been dropped too?
As far as USB storage goes. Can you transfer save files from one ps4 to another without a plus account?

The two things I swapped from Microsoft to Sony was because your interface had better video support and less chance of hardware failure (less, but still a chance).
You’ve just removed one of my features :(
I’ll looking into seeing if I can swap my reserve to Xbox one just in case there is no video streaming as I was really looking forward to getting a console at launch.

Psst… Sony is no longer listing to you.
Cancel your pre-orders if you need to, but they’ve sold more than enough units to actually care at this point.
All canceling your pre-orders will do at this point is give others a chance to buy them since they are sold out of retailers until 2014.

Can I play online without a Plus membership?

Generally speaking, no. PlayStation Plus membership is required to play the majority of online titles on PS4, however a selection of free-to-play multiplayer titles will be available without a PS Plus membership.

so sony are now forcing us to subscribe, this is wrong,if we wanted this we would all go and buy an xbox, greedy basterds.

+ CLASHOFTHETITENS:
No, with the exception of a few “free to play” games, you will need to have a Plus account to play anything online.

You will also need Music Unlimited if you want to listen to music.

And the last bad idea, you will need a Sony brand Bluetooth headset since the 3rd party headsets are no longer valid.

With all the stuff the PS$ don’t support it seems sony has taken a step backwards with the ps 4 it may end up being the worst selling console of the year they put a 500 gb hard drive then make you download the disc based games on to it to play them when the games are anywhere from 30 to 50 GB you won’t be able to put very many games on there before you have to buy a new hard drive it seems to be all about money and what sony wants they care nothing about what the consumer wants i think i will hold on to my ps three until the ps 5 comes out maybe by then they will figure out how to listen to consumers and make a system the way real players want it.

So, no MP3 support, no support for the $99 Sony Bluetooth headset or TB headsets, no support for the $300 Steering Wheels, PS Plus required… and the list goes on. No wonder Polyphony Digital didn’t release Gran Turismo 6 for PS4. A lot of these non-compatibility issues will affect the sales more than intended for sure. I was about to pre-order; not now. No MP3′s, really? Why hold down a good system and make it mediocre at best.

Perhaps later down the road some of these issues will be addressed; if not, bye bye!

No personal audio capabilities!?! Very very disappointed. Currently have over 60GB of digital and an additional 30+ GB via my media server. Felt that I was missing out not being able to preorder a PS4, now I relieved that I didn’t waste my money. I’m very upset about the inability of backward compatibility, making us the consumer double dip for titles we already own. And now this. Won’t be upgrading anytime soon if at all. I’ll wait for the PlayStation 5.

While I am very appreciative of the faq I have to say I am disappointed. I had planned to purchase a PS$ on launch but for now I will wait until a few key things are patched, changed or updated.

1. Media server and MP3 playback

2. Support for third party headsets.

3. Support for my Blue Ray remote.

Support for 3rd party devices and reduced restrictions for media play back were major factors in my choice to purchase a PS3, and going into a new console generation with out those features seems like a significant step backwards.

sony gave a very wishy washy answer about whether or not you can conct to the ps4 over the net lik with ps3 3g is an bad connectn for hi-speed streamn but if u had the pic and signal response options from
the ps3 u might get a pic on either hspa+ 3g or verizon 3g. couldve disabled 3g directly
Howev u might if your able to connt outsd to a 3g wit a spot and your vita
would pick that up as a wifi connection.(so even if your supposed to use 3g if it was possible to use networks outside the house) (I don’t see how they’d prevent it)
(also considering a v 4g connection although extremely expensive and impractical because of data) is not a bad network connection to play a short single player game.
(only ping, ive never bought one but it’s been tested to get 76 ping for exted period and then drop on occasion)
The process for signn up itself just involves typing it in a number from your tv. This process
was how you set up a privt network on the ps3 although I think you may have been able connct net
using the same method. the issue is I don’t know if it plays games outside the house. Instead of
wide area network and say can connect from an access point that is not the main network the ps4 uses if it works.
