It seems Sony really aren’t interested in us using PS4′s for media playback. No blu-ray/media remote control, and now no DLNA support either. Very disappointing.

I guess my PS3 will still be my main system for the foreseeable future then,

Man SONY were not kidding that this is a “games focussed” device! No CD support?! No MP3 support?! No DLNA support?!

We still have no clue if it will even support MP4 video files on USB or on DVD-R?!

Honestly that lack of functionality sucks for such a capable device. Although I personally wouldn’t use it having an AppleTV for most of my media needs – it will most likely be a deal breaker for some.

I guess this is going to be a pure gaming device for me.

I’m assuming I can put MP4 videos on PS4 also and download my Fairy Tail eps from the PS Store and put on the console? Also since the app disappeared a while back, what is video unlimited, I can never stream my purchased videos on Vita (so I can instantly access and don’t have to waste memory)

I’m very happy to see that we can listen to music now to any PS4 game. It was hard traveling through Borderlands 2 without any music playing from the screen. I see that Music Unlimited is required. Will we be able to listen to music that we have uploaded to the PS4? Or will the option only be available with Music Unlimited?

Quick question – is the power cable for the PS4 the same as the PS3 (Slim, or 2nd gen) cable?

I have a spare PS3 power cable (Slim) that could now also be a spare PS4 power cable if this is true. It makes it convenient if I want to switch it to another TV I only have to move the console, not the cables.

really don’t get the outcry over no MP3. can’t even fathom using a gaming console to listen to mp3′s when my phone and computer have all the music I’d ever need and is much easier to get to that the console route.

now, if it’s to game WHILE listening to music, I suggest getting an astro mixamp. works amazingly.

the DLNA thing…….well, I’m sure a vast majority of those users use that to stream content they didnt pay for to their console, so I understand that totally. If you paid for it, you probably have the disc, or its stored on amazon, etc etc. The one exception is probably movies bought via itunes.

I have no problem with those features being out. I will miss putting my favorite frag videos on my playstation…..but, my pc works fine for that.

Going to have to think long in hard about the DLNA support issue and if it is worth keeping my pre-order. I use this feature the most on the PS3 and it would be a huge loss as I had other plans to move my PS3 to another room for the specific purpose of using DLNA.

I have no plans subscribing to your Music and Video services. Unfortunately you guys are doing the 180 now on us loyal Playstation users.

A few questions if the answers are known:

1) Will double tapping the ‘PS’ button to seamlessly switch between game and dashboard be an available feature on launch day?

2) Will music unlimited be able to overlay music on recorded videos prior to sharing them?

3) Can recorded videos be shared on PSN for friends to view OR is Facebook our only option for shared video?

4) Does “PlayStation Live” require Twitch/Ustream accounts to function, or is this a feature of PS4 in regards to watching friends play their games live.

5) What is the suspend feature mentioned in reference to what won’t be ready for launch?

“Will users be able to connect an external hard drive to expand storage on PS4?
No, this feature is not supported on PS4.”

Um what? How are we supposed to back up data and game downloads if our console breaks? Even the Wii U allows (requires) external hard drives for big game downloads.

——————-

“Will PS4 support custom Dynamic Themes, as currently available on the PS3 system?
No, PS4 will not support Dynamic Themes as they currently exist on the PS3 system.”

Ugh, really Sony?

——————–

“Can I listen to audio CDs using PS4?
No, PS4 does not support audio CDs.”

“Will I be able to play MP3s on PS4?
No.”

Sony is forcing us to sign up for Music Unlimited. So much for freedom of choice. Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Google, etc. all allow you to use MP3′s from outside sources, so why is Sony restricting this feature?

I’m highly disappointed to see no custom music via our own mp3s or other sound files. The Vita supports it, there is no reason the PS4 shouldn’t. This just seems like a greedy cash crab to get more people to use Music Unlimited. Sorry, but I’ve tried your service and it doesn’t have most of the type of music I listen to (especially international selections).

I REALLY hope this changes in the future via a firmware update. Everyone who is against this, please voice your concerns on this blog post. Send Sony the message that we want custom music without being forced into using Music Unlimited.

I have nothing against the Music Unlimited service, but I have my own library of songs already, I don’t need it and I don’t want it. I am hoping that the stupid mistake to not have MP3 support can be patched or something, because that is just….ridiculous and sad, there is no reason for why I shouldn’t be able to play my own music at the same time I play my games, when the frickin Xbox 360 released years ago COULD DO THAT VERY THING.

What the hell Sony! No support for MP3? no background music for private collection? no PSN name changes? a system like the 8 year old 360 offers all this yet a system that’s meant to be of next generation cannot even provide these simple features?

@ 257. No it’s too big it’s a desktop drive. You need a 2.5″ laptop one. The biggest you can get is 1.5TB. Google HGST Travelstar 5K1500

Will the friends list limit on the Vita be increased following the PS4 launch? If yes, to how many? If no, what happens if I have more friends on the PS4?

Will the PS4 support Dual Audio like the PS3? [audio output from optical and HDMI at the same time?]

Besides Music unlimited and video services there is no way to play my own music or videos on the PS4?

Wow what a let down that is. When I can do more on my PS3 then my PS4…. Might need to cancel my pre-order and rethink things….

What a bad day. :(

Well I guess the one bit of good news in all of this, anyone who wants a PS4 and wasn’t going to be (due to supply and demand) able to get one at launch, may now find many PS4s suddenly available for launch as the pre order cancellations hit.

PS4 had such a huge lead over Xbone a few months ago, now I wouldn’t be surprised if the sales ended up pretty evenly split, since both systems sound like disappointments.

You guys honestly think it’s appropriate to cut local MP3 playback and DLNA support?

No offense, but it’s 2013, these are features that are expected of pretty much ANY networkable device today.

So will you guys still sell soundtracks on PSN since MP3s aren’t supported?

No DLNA or media streaming. Another lost sale here. Going backwards from PS3. Sony trying to do a MS?

You said Ps4 won’t play mp3s, if so then what type of music files will the Ps4 support? Or much better what types of media files, both video and music, and maybe you can include image files as well will the ps4 support?

Question:

I am extremely sad and most shocked that PS4 won’t support DLNA, which I use every day as I stream my media files to my TV. Also why not mp3? :O

PS3 games do not support dlcs of a different region. For example My region 2 ps3 game won’t support the region 1 DLC I just downloaded. How is it on the PS4?

How will we be able to backup and restore data when changing hard drives if no external HD is supported?

EXTREMELY disappointed in Sony. The PS4 not having mp3 playback, let alone during gameplay, is downright pathetic. This needs to be patched ASAP. You begin asking people to pay for features monthly, and you remove basic functionality other systems have had for years? Not cool Sony.

“Will I be able to play MP3s on PS4? No.”
I’d really like to be able to do this as I already do on my PS3.

So things such as being able to use Music Unlimited and Facebook functionaly on PS3 require a master account… please allow both master and sub accounts.

I want to know what cross platfrom games (between the vita and ps4) will be available at launch

also is their a limit on redownloading on primary ps4, because when that hardrive gets full, I know I will have to eventually delete something I’m not playing. I want to know how many times can I re download something I’ve already purdhase?
